We're not sure about you, but we've made the proper sacrifices to our heathen boxing gods to ensure the momentum built up over the last few weeks in boxing carries us through the summer. Last week we saw Saul "Canelo" Alvarez win a shootout with James Kirkland on HBO, and the same network gave us a some fun showcases in Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez vs Edgar Sosa. Yes, showcases. Both of the "house" fighters were favored. But they made such ventures fun to watch, didn't they? Did we need that, or did we NEED that? Following a monumental letdown of a megafight in Mayweather-Pacquiao, boxing fans needed a nice weekend of boxing to recharge, and we got it. There were negatives to focus on -- like another fantastically inept failure by Texas referee Laurence Cole -- but it was mostly fun.
