Peter Quillin aka Kid Chocolate former middleweight Champ. Speak passionately about the state of emergency of our souls and re-direct our hearts and mind to our lord and savior Jesus Christ. While we try to comprehend solutions to better our society basically the only answer is to save ourselves and submit to God. Boxing translate to life itself.
One of the lockdown side-effects is the Irish 'media' taking pot shots at Irish boxers and their sport. The only sport - incase some of them forget - that delivers world class operators, world class atheletes and the only Irish sport that REGULARLY wins international honours in the pro AND amateur codes. Some of their rhetoric maybe justified by events of the past - but should our sport and everybody in it be made to suffer for the actions of others? We have a little look at all that in this episode. The boxing that we love today is built on the tradition of that bygone era where the best fought the best. Where champions pitted themselves against any and ALL comers with the endevour of being great. Despite being just 28 Michael Zerafa has been in with Peter Quillin, Kell Brook and Jeff Horne twice. He has shown the skills, talents and marketability to become one of the best of his era. Michael joins the podcast today to talk about growing up in Australia, his short amateur career, those huge fights and we also remember a fallen comrade and the effects it's had on him. It's great to welcome Bray's European bronze medalist and friend of the show Regan 'The Rocket' Buckley. Since winning the medal in Minsk almost a year ago to the day it has been an eventful 12 months. He chats about the homecoming, the Elite senior championships in November and the events that followed that. He also has an appeal for listeners to help him and his Dad to find a new premises for their hugely successful club St. Teresa's BC. We're asking that ALL listeners will click the link attached to this and add your name to the petition. If possible we ask that you would share it and help the guys get some supportfor a club that does amazing work in keeping young people (and older) off the streets and out of trouble! https://bit.ly/StTeresasBC________________________________________________________________________________________Big thanks to Dessie at Small Villages for his support with the podcast. The 4th installment of Chronicles of the RinG On 8.25 .2011 After a back n forth on social media middleweight Ishe Shay Smith told undefeated (at the time) middleweight Peter Quillin to come on Leave it in the RinG radio to hash out their difference and maybe agree to a fight in the ring .
Today we go back 35 years to tell the story of arguably the greatest fight of all-time – Marvin Hagler v Thomas Hearns. We hear about bank robberies, dodgy entourages and watch back the greatest round of them all with the brilliant Andy Lee. It's one of those glorious occasions when the hype beforehand ended up significantly *under-selling* the action once the bell went. Andy tells us why this loss hurt his and Hearns' coach Emmanuel Steward more deeply than any other. He tells us about the man in the tuxedo who carried Hearns to his corner, and why Hearns hates that photo so much...about a character called Willie ‘Caveman' Lee, and why 35 years on, it's still hard to get people from the Kronk Gym to acknowledge the greatness of this one.Through the wonders of modern podcasting technology, you guys can watch the fight right along with us, just check twitter/insta for details. https://twitter.com/SecondCaptains/status/1257241405300379648?s=20 And if you missed our brilliant show with Andy on his fight with Peter Quillin check it out here -https://www.secondcaptains.com/2020/04/07/episode-1740-andy-lee-watches-his-classic-2015-fight-against-peter-quillin-for-the-first-time-just-for-second-captains-world-service-members/
Former WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee reached the top when he won the world crown against Matvey Korobov in Las Vegas. Lee's journey saw him go from Olympic heartbreak as Ireland's sole representative at the 2004 Games to big things in the USA. He was taken under the wing of Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward and became a star of the famous Kronk Gym in Detroit. He rose fast, but was stunned in a defeat to Bryan Vera that saw him question everything. He fought his way back. There were trials and tribulations. Here, he lets you into his uncertainty, while being behind the scenes at the Kronk and on the road in Klitschko training camps. Then came the big nights, wins against John Jackson, Craig McEwan, Korobov and more and he joined forces with one of Britain's leading trainers, Adam Booth. As the champion, he faced Peter Quillin before losing his crown to Billy Joe Saunders. Then came an acceptance that it was over. He began his new life as a trainer, working with the likes of Paddy Donovan and Jay Quigley and he was a key part of Tyson Fury's rematch win over Deontay Wilder.
Brin Butler joins Michael Woods in studio for a chit chat of all things boxing. Brin is an award winning documentary filmmaker, writer, and favorite of Woodsy. He gives a perspective from the UK on the big Spence vs Porter showdown this weekend. He also gives us a good look at the landscape of boxing in the UK.

Jeandra (@jethang), Ryan (@ryanBivins) and Ismael (@Ismael_bbm_nyk) recap tonight's Battle of Brooklyn 2 where Daniel Jacobs devastates Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin in one roun.
This episode begins with Recap from a busy weekend of boxing that saw a major upset in Germany! Tyson Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko to become the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World! Will the rematch be any different? Also, Recap other action including the Showtime fight between James Degale and Lucian Bute. Plus, Preview, Debate, & Predictions for the Peter Quillin vs. Daniel Jacobs Showtime fight this Saturday! Other Topics For Discussion- Was Tyson Fury's upset the biggest of the decade or did Fury finally show the weakness in Wladimir Klitschko? -Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero January 23 on FOX. -Is the heavyweight division in the mist of a reniassance? Plus, More Current Fight News and Rumor Mill Items! Follow on Twitter @RopeADopeRadio Call 646-381-4990 Listen Live or Join The Roundtable!
Tyson Fury is now the heavyweight champion of the world. That's strange to say, but true. Wladimir Klitschko no longer reigns over the division. Is Fury's defeat of Klitschko on HBO a good thing for boxing? How does Tyson Fury compare to other "surprise" champions? It's a topic fit for a Gypsy King. This coming weekend on Showtime, another "Battle for Brooklyn" looms, this time in the middleweight division. Brooklyn apparently has a lot of champions at this point. Daniel Jacobs fights Peter Quillin in what could be a very interesting matchup, if not a matchup between two of the slightly lower tier fighters in the division. We'll make the best of it. Not to be ignored, Chris Algieri fights Erick Bone on Showtime Extreme. So we have that to look forward to. Follow us on Twitter... The Ruckus is back tonight at 8PM PT with hosts Jeandra LeBeauf of BadCulture.net (@jethang & @theBadCulture) and Ismael AbduSalaam of BeatsBoxingMayhem.com (@Ismael_bbm_nyk). Regular co-host Ryan Bivins has the night off as it's fight week for him (yes he's a pro boxer) in Philly. Listen in as we recap last weekends PPV card wear Floyd Mayweather easily defeated Andre Berto and Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson both posted mismatched KO victories on their respective PBC broadcasts. To call and speak with the hosts dial 718.508.9852.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather could have actually fought for the last time. The idea of a sport without a huge magnet sitting in the middle is nice. That the end may have come by way of a wide win over Andre Berto is underwhelming, but boxing. And now that the fight is out of the way, we have a potential PED mess to talk about. The good news is that the Pay-Per-View undercard was fun. "Rocky" Martinez and Orlando Salido were in another gritty war, Badou Jack shaded George Groves by decision, and Jonathan Oquendo upset Jhonny Gonzalez in a back-and-forth scrap. There was other boixing stuff on. Peter Quillin scored a nasty stoppage of Michael Zerafa; Vanes Martirosyan dropped Ishe Smith a few times in winning; Jermall Charlo wiped out Cornelius Bundrage; Adonis Stevenson took out Tommy Karpency easily; Errol Spence, Jr. broke down Chris Van Heerden; and Anthony Joshua mopped up Gary Cornish. There was a lot of boxing. Not all good, but it gives James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor a ton to discuss with author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. defeated Andre Berto in what was billed as the final fight of his career. It was yet another lopsided encounter for the pound-for-pound champion as he said farewell to boxing in a bizarre mismatch.THE UNDERCARDIt became clear once this fight was announced that Mayweather vs. Berto would need a strong undercard to attract fans. In a rematch of their early 2015 classic, Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido met in the ring in hopes of recreating their Fight of the Year candidate which saw the Puerto Rican they call "Rocky" raise the title. In other undercard action, WBC mandatory challenger George Groves squared off against super-middleweight titles Badou Jack in a super-middleweight clash. After a first round knockdown, George Groves recovered to win the first half of this highly skillful contest, but Badou Jack's patience and commitment to the body attack would wear down the talented Englishman. The boisterous Englishman would fall short yet again at an attempt to raise a world title.Premier Boxing Champions sunk to a new low this past weekend as the fledgling upstart featured two dangerous mismatches. The controversial and highly adversarial operation continues to ignore boxing fans and attack the media around every corner, yet the Al Haymon led organization paraded and promoted one of the ugliest mismatches in recent boxing history. Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson disgraced the sports of boxing this passed weekend, and the Tale of the Tape calls them out on their ridiculous actions.Oscar Valdez returned to action on TruTV's Friday Night Knockouts in a huge step-up bout for the young, highly touted prospect. The young featherweight showed great improvement with elite hand speed and accuracy against the tough veteran Chris Avalos. The 241st edition of ON THE ROPES boxing radio features guests Austin Trout & Peter Quillin. The show also features breakdowns of all the weeks upcoming fights, including Mayweather-Berto
The moment almost none of us have been waiting for is here. Floyd Mayweather fights Andre Berto this weekend on Pay-Per-View, for way too much money, under the guise that this will be his final bout. As you can see, we're really excited about the prospect of paying $75 to watch Floyd fight a guy who lost to Jesus Soto Karass and Victor Ortiz. At least the undercard (Badou Jack vs George Groves, Roman Martinez vs Orlando Salido II, Ishe Smith vs Vanes Martirosyan) isn't laughable. Earlier Saturday on NBC, Peter Quillin fights a guy named Michael Zerafa (just go look on the internet yourself, trust us), and Cornelius Bundrage fights for the first time in about a year against Jermall Charlo. Austin Trout fights tonight (Tues) on FoxSports 1, but on Friday light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson continues to face sub-par opposition when he defends against Tommy Karpency on Spike, from Premier Boxing Champions. Talented welterweight Errol Spence Jr. fights in the co-feature. On CBS last Sunday from PBC, Anthony Dirrell won a ho hum decision over Marco Antonio Rubio, and in the co-feature Jamie McDonnell again defeated Tomoki Kameda by controversial decision. It's been a mediocre year, as you all know. But there's news about Scott Quigg and Nonito Donaire being nearly finalized, some pointing and laughing to do about upcoming cards... And joining James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor once again this week is Matthew Swain of The Queensberry Rules. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Lucas Noonan/PBC)
Tonight on The Ruckus we are joined by former middleweight Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillen to discuss his upcoming fight. Also on the show we recap today's Mosley/Mayorga antics, yesterday's Cotto/Canelo press conference and give our predictions for this weekend's Mares vs Santa Cruz bout. To call-in and speak with the hosts dial 718.508.9852
This episode begins with Recap from the Weekend that included a Fight of the Year Candidate in Glowacki vs Huck that ended by in a dramatic KO fashion! Also, breakdown for the PBC on Spike and NBC Sports Network that featured a stalemate between Steve Cunningham and Antonio Tarter as well as an entertaining Co-Feature for Luciano Bute's comeback fight after a 19 month layoff! Other Topics For Discussion- Cotto vs. Canelo a done deal for November 21 in Las Vegas! -Omar Figueroa and Deontay Wilder set for September 26th Doubleheader on NBC. -Peter Quillin vs. Danny Jacobs set for December 5th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York! Plus, More Current News Topics and Rumors! Follow on Twitter @RopeADopeRadio Call 646-381-4990
The combined age of the two fighters in this coming weekend's headlining bout on Spike, courtesy of Premier Boxing Champions, is 85. Antonio Tarver returns for the first time since defeating Jonathon Banks and faces Steve Cunningham. It may even wind up strangely competitive. In the co-feature(s), Marco Huck and Artur Szpilka are showcased, so at least we could get some fun ones. Depending on where you reside, the biggest news of the weekend might be Lucian Bute's return against Andrea di Luisa on NBC Sports. The Bell Centre in Montreal is bound to be packed and cheering Bute wildly. There's a matter of the HBO Latino card that featured Dmitry Mikhaylenko, Manuel Avila and Tevin Farmer and happened to be fun, but also news, such as a likely Andre Berto vs Khabib Allakhverdiev bout, the announcement of woeful opponents for Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson, and the finalizing of Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto -- the ultra, super, megafight that nobody seems to want. Joining James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor this week is writer, co-host of of the Ring Theory podcast and author William Dettloff. Thanks for tuning in!

The dry spell we had to sit through for a bit seems to have potentially subsided -- temporarily, at least. Since TQBR Radio took a week off, we have some catching up to do by recapping the Manny Pacquiao vs Tim Bradley II Pay-Per-View card, in addition to the usual recapping of the last weekend's cards. On Showtime, Bernard Hopkins history shmistoried his way through a notable-ish light heavyweight fight, something something about belts and old people, etc. Also, Shawn Porter smashed through Paulie Malignaggi and Peter Quillin caught a decision over Lukas Konecny. There should be some likely vocalizations from James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Queensberry-Rules' Patrick Connor about upcoming fights like Keith Thurman vs Julio Diaz. Lucas Matthysse vs John Molina, Wladimir Klitschko vs Alex Leapai, Omar Figueroa vs Jerry Belmontes, and likely more.
Highlights and results from an exciting tripleheader featuring Bernard Hopkins, Shawn Porter, Paulie Malignaggi, and Peter Quillin.

We better make this description quick, before Steve Smoger sees us and tries to push us away from Bernard Hopkins by the face. Somehow Bernard Hopkins keeps winning, and the guy is old. Real old. Also, somehow his decision win over Karo Murat was much more entertaining than just about anyone expected. Queensberry Rules Radio will cover many facets of that Showtime main event, and also Peter Quillin's stoppage win over Gabe Rosado and Deontay Wilder's KO of Nick Firtha. As always, the hosts of the episode are James Foley of BadLeftHook.com and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules.com (addresses withheld to protect the hosts from Steve Smoger). Thanks for tuning in!
Highlights from an action-packed night of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING featuring Deontay Wilder vs. Nicolai Firtha, Peter Quillin vs. Gabriel Rosado, and Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat.
When it rains, it pours. Except in this case, said downpour is a good thing, as it comes in the form of really sickening action to close out the rest of the year. The latest installment of "Hello, this is 2013 calling, boxing fan, and you're welcome" was Ruslan Provodnikov doing battle with Mike Alvarado this past weekend to the tune of a stoppage after the 10th round in favor of the Russian. That exquisite gorefest would probably be enough to carry a two-hour show, but James Foley of BadLeftHook.com and Patrick Connor of Queensberry-Rules.com will also preview Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat and Peter Quillin vs. Gabe Rosado, among other musings. Joining the show this week is Kelsey McCarson, writer for TheSweetScience.com and BleacherReport.com, and member of the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. Thanks for tuning in!
