Antonio Deon Tarver, born on November 21st in Orlando, Florida is a U.S. Olympic Bronze-Medalist, Philanthropist, Podcast Host, Actor, Boxing commentator and Former U.S. National Gold-Medal winning Boxer. Antonio made his professional debut with his first fight with Joaquin Garcia at the legendary Blue Horizon boxing Venue in Philadelphia in 1997. Throughout his first 16 fights of his career, which he's all won, with an impressive feat of 14 out of 16 of those fights being won by knockout–Tarver quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world and had so many eyes on him from Florida... All the way to the local boxing hub in Philadelphia. In April of 2003, Tarver was placed in a bout against Montel Griffin, who at the time, was the reigning WBC and IBF light-heavyweight champion. After about a full hour in the ring, 12 rounds and after successfully flooring Griffin in the 1st and 12th rounds of the fight, Antonio was crowned the new champion after a unanimous decision. In May of 2004 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Antonio did something that would surprise many... He was set to do a rematch with Roy Jones Jr where he not only regained the WBC title, but also knocked RJJ out in the 2nd round–Where Jones had only been knocked out once in the then 50-fight entirety of his boxing career. Fast forwarding to 2006 after Antonio had become a household name after defeating Roy Jones, he appeared on the covers of iconic boxing Magazines such as The Ring and KO. He was also given the opportunity to be casted as Mason “The Line” Dixon in the Rocky Balboa installment of the film's franchise that was released the same year. Antonio has since then gone on to be a boxing analyst for Showtime Championship Boxing, a spectator at some of the world's most memorable boxing events and being a co-host on Friday Night Fights. Thank you to Antonio for stopping by the I Am Athlete studio to share his perspective on all things life and giving us insight on his past that built the resilient, brute force of nature that he is. Happy Early Birthday & Happy Scorpio SZN to you as well!

I had the pleasure of speaking with Tony "The Tiger" Lopez , the IBF Super Featherweight Champion on my morning show on COOL 101.1 when I was surprised by one of the characters on my show "The Dogman" who set the interview up to surprise me. At the time, we were very involved supporting the troops in the gulf war after 911. We had created BAT Ribbons - "Bring Americans Together" in an interview to show their support. We create a red, white and blue ribbon folded like the previous yellow ribbon decals and attached them to American Flag pins for a shirt or blouse. The ribbons were free and we were amazed at the reaction. When then California Gov. Pete Wilson was seen wearing one, the promotion took off and we were even featured nationally on ABC News. So, that's why Tony was calling in. He wanted his BAT ribbon. Great guy and a worthy Champion.
This week's show features Super Featherweight Prospect Christian "Veneno" Otero (4-0) as he gets ready to fight on the Christy Martin Promotions show this Saturday Night in Florida. Also, a preview of this weekend's Thurman vs Barrios PPV and Rodriguez vs. Cuadras on DAZN.

'Wild' Will Tomlinson is a former professional boxer, and a bloody good one at that, being the former IBO Super Featherweight World Champion.Wild Will started his boxing journey at the age of twelve when he walked in walked in off the street to a boxing gym in his home town, Bairnsdale. He soon found his calling as the coaches noticed his natural rhythm and talent as he practiced on the pads and in sparring and because of this, at just twelve years old, he had his first amateur fight which he won by knockout. He turned professional in 2008 after missing out on the Olympic Games and from his debut fight, which he won by TKO after scoring a stoppage, he would quickly rise up the ranks to become one of the best fighters for his weight class and ultimately became a World Champion at Super Featherweight class by winning the IBO Super Featherweight title. That rise and dominance in Australia saw him sign with Oscar De La Hoya’s famous Golden Boy Promotions at the end of 2013 and he would relocate to the US to fight over there before returning to Australia for his final few fights and retiring at the age of 30 after 29 fights with a record of 25 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw.Post his fighting days he has started his own boxing promotion and gym, Wildfighter, which is aimed at giving boxers a better chance at forging a career of their own through better promotion and exposure.Throughout our conversation, Wild Will discusses his career progression, the focus, mindset and discipline of a boxer, the sacrifices and approach he made to cut 10-12kg of weight during training camp just to get to the line to fight and his attitude to becoming a world champion. Please enjoy this engaging and eye opening conversation with Wild Will Tomlinson.

Join us for a look back at the landscape of the martial arts beginning in the early 1960s through the eyes (and voice) of a legend. Ranging from such topics as overtraining ("bad training") to surviving childhood to innovations borne of necessity, this interview captures a half-century of martial arts with a true master. In the early sixties, Sifu began studying Fu Jow Pai in New York's Chinatown. He went on to earn the rank of Sai Chuon (Fourth Degree Blackbelt), the highest rank the Grandmaster has ever awarded a student. He also studied with, and later taught kickboxing for, Shotokan Karate Master Toyotaro Miyazaki. He is best known for holding World Champion titles over a 23-year period from 11 professional kickboxing organizations in 4 different weight divisions: Featherweight, Super Featherweight, Lightweight, and Super Lightweight. http://www.brooklynbjj.com http://vizzio.com/ http://www.martialartsmind.com
