Chaz and AJ welcomed house flipper Pat Funaro in studio this morning, with a loot of found vinyl records. Mighty John the record guy was on the phone to give a sight-unseen price estimate, and the total racked up pretty quickly. (0:00) Sal called in to Chaz and AJ while on his way to court, because his nightmare neighbor had called the cops while he was listening to WPLR in his yard. Apparently, the neighbor also keeps a camera pointed right at Sal's front door, and listens in on conversations he's having inside the house. (17:16)
Chaz & AJ called Connoisseur Media CEO Jeff Warshaw to wish him a happy birthday and hear his reflections on his ownership of WPLR. (0:00) A woman was pronounced dead at a nursing home in Nebraska, only to have that decision reversed in a funeral home. (6:19) Actor and voice artist John Ratzenberger spoke about his upbringing in Connecticut, his roles in Cheers, Star Wars and Pixar movies, and how much he misses CT pizza. Chaz and AJ have been nominated for (another!) Marconi! It's the most important award the radio industry has to offer, so it's extra special to also see WPLR nominated for one as well. Take a listen to the audio package that the judges used to determine their nominations. (0:00) Comedian Matt Lopes was in studio as Chaz and AJ read an article that claims to have the number one junk food for every state. Connecticut apparently loves their.. granola bars? (6:31) Dumb Ass News - How can you steal your own car? A man in North Branford found a way. (15:52) Steve Greenberg, "The Gadget Guy" was on to talk about some of the cool, new tech updates coming to your iPhone. (22:14) Una Dolce Vita from Bridgeport was in studio after submitting the winning bid at an auction. Joe and John discussed the benefits of eating your salad last, on the same plate as your dinner. Foghat's Roger Earl was on the phone (on his birthday!) to talk to Chaz and AJ about the important connection between the band and WPLR. Chaz invited him, repeatedly, to play at this year's Toy Drive in December, and mentioned their live album is one of the greatest entries in rock history. Pat Oates is a standup comic who has appeared on WPLR, "Who Are These Podcasts," and Compound Media. Oates is determined to bring live comedy to the Valley, and he's doing it through organizing open mic & regular shows at Retro Grub & Pub and RiverWalk Social, both on Elizabeth Street in downtown Derby.
Jimmy “Wall Street” Rapuano is........The Man On The Street (@jimmyraponthestreet) for 99.1 WPLR's Chaz and AJ in the Morning (@chazandaj). Although Wall Street drinks no beers, he still came by the Beer Man Beer Studio to talk some comedy and music. Jimmy does it all.....from owning his own business, performing stand up comedy, co-promoting his own local talent contest with the great Ian Cunningham (@bigwonder55), ”Staven's Got Problems” and not to mention he's no stranger to working in a kitchen. He brings us his signature Homemade Meatballs to try on the show. Jim tells us all about growing up Italian in East Haven, Connecticut, the truth about Olive Oil and how he ended up in Anger Management. We get the lowdown on a high profile lawyer that performed stand up comedy at “Staven's Got Problems” and what he hates about the brewery scene. Van Hagar vs. Van Halen, Def Leppard, Steely Dan and Sade......All while Keg and Jonny taste delicious beers from Elicit Brewing Co (@elicitbrewing). A fun hang with Wall Street! Check out Jimmyraponthestreet Mondays and Wednesdays mornings on Chaz and A.J. 99.1 WPLR

Some of you may recognize the name. Others of you may not. I am confident all of you will love this interview. Chaz is most known for being the co-host of the Chaz and AJ in the Morning Show, the Marconi Award-winning radio program holding the title of Connecticut's #1 morning show since 2003. But enough about that. Chaz and I are kindred spirits on what is revealed to be a shared journey anchored by the quest for individual significance. Now is where I will shamelessly plug LAL #027 — On Orwell's "1984": The Imperative of Individual Significance for a primer to those of you newcomers to the podcast. Chaz and I met some 16 or so years ago. In my line of criminal defense work, Chaz has been a consistent and reliable source of honest inquiry surrounding the most high profile of my cases. And those are a few of the words I would use to describe Chaz generally: consistent, reliable, and honest. Traits listeners of public radio deserve now more than ever. This interview is fairly biographical. You'll learn about the 13 year-old Chaz that applied for a summer job for underprivileged children at a local radio station, and how that opportunity changed the trajectory of his entire life. Before Chaz was Chaz, he was Charlie Phase. By 16, he was the youngest General Manager of a radio station in the United States. The rest is history. I ask Chaz about his funniest moments as a wedding DJ, he shares the details about the time Michael Isner got him fired, and we uncover the nitty gritty of how the business really works—sometimes, your friend gets canned to make room for you. At bottom, this interview coalesces around a shared admiration for how we as individuals actualize ourselves in the western world and how we reconcile our perceived personal failures on the way to connecting ourselves with what really matters. Chaz calls this "regular people doing extraordinary things." I am glad to know that Chaz is learning how to relax on the weekends. And while he affirms to me that what I do is "real" by comparison, I cannot help but to think that the extraordinary feats of regular people would cease to exist without the instant intimacy Chaz creates with us through his radio broadcasts. Listen and enjoy. Rate Law and Legitimacy 6 Stars on your chosen platforms. We'll perhaps settle for 5. And join Norm Pattis as a subscriber on Patreon to help fuel the future of this podcast. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/norm-pattis/support

Chaz talks with Kevin McKeown about his PLR days. From the first days of WPLR to being Mayor of Santa Monica, it all started with getting busted for weed and an acid trip.
Chaz talks to Bruce Barber, half of the legendary Smith and Barber Morning Show which was heard on WPLR from 1985 until January of 2003 (minus one year for a job at a station in Tampa). Bruce takes us through everything from his start in radio, what caused the show to come apart and what he's up to now.
Bruce Manke, WPLR's utility player from 1973-1981 shares stories of his worst celebrity interviews, the magical moment after the murder of John Lennon, on stage pre concert announcements, his earliest New Haven FM radio memory and more.
He was at WPLR for two short but incredible years in music history. Connecticut radio legend Stormin Norman was on the air the night John Lennon was murdered, was on the air the day the Eagles played the Yale Bowl and more. He shared his stories of loading Billy Joel into Toad's Place, seeing the Stones at Toad's, asking Paul McCartney a question that got an answer that was used in media reports around the world. It was real fun talking to the amazing Stormin Norman.
Mike Lapitino, the longest running air talent in WPLR's 50 year history, takes Chaz through his 35 years on air at the station and behind the scenes. From hanging out with Rock Stars (and annoying some), to what struck him about standing next to the Rolling Stones and tons of studio stories in between, Your Ol' Buddy Lappy doesn't hold back.
New Haven mayor Justin Elicker was on with Chaz and AJ to read a proclamation, celebrating 50 years of 99.1 PLR. (0:00) Connoisseur Media CEO Jeff Warshaw was on to recognize the station's 50th anniversary, and explained what it is like to own a radio station, and how he wound up buying WPLR. (8:38) Senator Blumenthal called in to sing Happy Birthday, and reminisce about the events he has participated in over the station's history. (14:32) Live Nation's Jimmy Koplik was on one phone line, and Governor Lamont was on another, both to celebrate the station's 50th. The Governor was able to squeeze a little concert news out of Jimmy as well, another act booked for the new Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport that was not supposed to be announced until next week. (22:42) Chaz and AJ spoke with their bosses, Kristin Okesson and Keith Dakin, about the station's history, how PLR is different from many other rock stations around the country, and all the times Chaz and AJ have gotten them into trouble over the years. (30:01) Chaz has been interviewing some of the legendary personalities from the last 50 years of PLR's history, and had clips here from Marcia Simon, who admitted to one her biggest on-air mistakes. Then, it wouldn't be a 50th anniversary celebration without hearing from Stoneman. (42:53)
Eddie Wazoo was a staple at WPLR from 1975-1981. He's most known as the afternoon drive host and music director during one of the most fertile times in rock music. He talks about how he got his name, great behind the scenes PLR stories and why it took so long for PLR to play The Ramones.
Rick Allison began his career at WPLR in 1975 and has done everything from part time news, mornings (multiple times), program director, the voice of the station, to hosting the longest running local band show in the history of radio (heard every Sunday night). He’s been fired several times but the universe will not allow Allison and PLR to be apart for long.
How a very serious illness led to Mark Kaplowe’s love affair with radio. He entered the WPLR building on Chapel Street in 1975 and eventually became the afternoon drive host. He shares why he hoped Stoneman didn’t bounce off the wall twice, meeting Bono of U2, the moment Wiggy fired him and how he went on to become one of the most sought after voice over talents in America. Chaz talked with Doc Rock, one of the original WPLR jocks, about the launch of PLR 50 years ago back in 1971.
Ahead of the governor's budget address, Paul Pacelli decided to preview what's to come on "Connecticut Today." First, Paul and Producer Eric ran a poll to see what callers would rather have between two controversial ideas: legalized recreational marijuana use or legalized sports betting. The poll featured several callers, one of WICC's weekend personalities and even WPLR's own Mike Lapitino (0:50). Next, Chris Powell of the Journal Inquirer of Manchester called in to give his take on what we could hear from the governor and legislative Democrats (25:54). Finally, Fairfield GOP State Senator Tony Hwang gave his takes on the budget as well as what happened between him and flavored tobacco critic (39:39) Image Credit: Getty Images
