HI, I am Lisanne Iriks and I am deeply passionate about people having the ability to resolve conflict powerfully and negotiate effectively in their lives. I am so passionate about it because I see how much suffering it is causing people on a daily basis and I know that it just does not have to be this way. When people truly get how conflict impacts their life and put the work in to get effective at conflict resolution and negotiation, they get to experience deep connections with other people, freedom, self-expression, love, and happiness! So what is it that I do? I am a conflict resolution specialist and have been a mediator and facilitator for over 12 years specialising in family mediation and workplace mediation. I have taken thousands for people through the mediation process and I have had the honour to be a finalist for the Australian Mediator of the year award for the last two years. I train, coach, and mentor people to become highly effective in conflict resolution and negotiation so they can create the relationships they want in their homes and their boardrooms. I am so excited to welcome you to CONVERSATIONS TO CUT THE CONFLICT! This podcast is designed to create actual change in people’s lives and the world. I am committed to bringing you the conversations, insight, and tools you need for you to switch on your inner conflict resolution and negotiation muscles and get you to a completely different level where you can resolve conflict powerfully and create the relationships you want in your life. Think about it...what would life be like if you would not be afraid of dealing with conflict and you would deal with it easily and quickly. It would change the game dramatically, wouldn't it? Thank you for being here and being willing to have these conversations and switch on your inner conflict resolution muscle. The world needs people like you! It would mean so much to me if you could share an episode with the people in your life. I put so much into these conversations and I would like these conversations to reach as many people as possible! Please tag me on Instagram when you share an episode so I can reshare your story. It is so great to meet you, now let's get into these conversations…
Co-parenting was never easy, but throw in constant notifications, texting wars, and social media exposure, and it can feel impossible. How do you set boundaries when your ex has 24/7 access to you? What happens when texts spiral into arguments that last all night?Should your kids have unrestricted phone access between homes? In this episode, I dive into the pros and cons of modern communication in co-parenting—when technology helps, when it makes things worse, and how to set boundaries that actually reduce conflict.I also talk about:✔ The anxiety of constant messages from your ex and how to manage it.✔ Why social media can be a co-parenting battlefield (and how to avoid it).✔ Setting tech boundaries with your kids—because Fortnite and TikTok are parenting challenges we never saw coming.
Did you know that menopause can have a profound impact on how we act, think, and handle conflict? Hormones have a huge impact on our mood, our relationships and how we deal with difficult situations. As women we often think that it's not just “part of life” to feel irritable or low before your period or to suffer through menopause symptoms. ( I know I thought this). But I am finding out that it doesn't have to be this way.In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Louise Newson, a renowned menopause specialist, to discuss the truth about hormones and their impact on women's lives. We talk about everything from mood swings and irrational behaviour to the life-changing benefits of proper hormone treatment.Key takeaways: Hormones affect more than physical health—they influence mood, cognition, and emotional well-being. Only 14% of Australian women use hormone replacement therapy, often due to misinformation or lack of education. It's time to stop normalising unnecessary suffering and start addressing the root causes and in the process save relationships.Partners: Help the women in your life get the care they need—it can make all the difference.Dr. Newson shares her expertise and resources like the Balance app, helping women take charge of their hormonal health.Learn more about the app here:https://www.balance-menopause.com/balance-app/

Why Men Choose to Use Abuse: An insightful article discussing the benefits perceived by abusive men.https://voicemalemagazine.org/abusive-men-describe-the-benefits-of-violence/4. One of the best books on this subject is Lundy Bancroft's ‘Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men'. Lundy worked in Men's Behaviour Change programs for decades and provides some absolutely fantastic insights into the nature of abusive men, and the genesis of behaviours. It is full of brilliant information. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts!

I loved having a conversation with Faiza Gabriel, director of Lighthouse Legal. Having observed her parents go through a messy divorce as a teenager, Faiza knew early on that there had to be a better way, and that her calling was to guide people in that direction. Since being admitted as a solicitor and barrister in 2008, she has worked predominantly in family law. Over the years she has gained extensive experience in family law matters, including advising and representing clients in complex financial settlements and arrangements for children at the Family Court. In 2020, she established her own practice, Lighthouse Legal, and remains committed to helping her clients find safe passage through the storm after a separation. We are both passionate about helping people through their family conflict and keeping people out of the family court. And if they have to go through court to support them in how to do it in the least damaging way. What is special about this episode is that Faiza shares openly what it was like to be the child of parents who had a high conflict divorce as a child but also as an adult now as they still do not get along. It is so powerful to hear from an adult who has lived through a high conflict divorce what it is like and what parents can do to make it easier for their children when they go through a divorce. We also talk about what an ICL is (independent children's lawyer) and what they do. There are lots of myths out there and this episode will give you insight on what the role of an ICL is and how the process works. This episode is great for anyone who is separating, or in conflict with their ex-partner but also for practitioners, lawyers and mediators as we need to keep reminding ourselves of why we do what we do and how we can make a difference to families in the best way possible.Join the Mediation Practice Program and expand your skills as a mediator while learning how to run a successful mediation practice. This program includes mindset training to boost your confidence and practical guidance on property settlement and lawyer-assisted mediation. Emotions are necessary and useful to have in our everyday life. We cannot survive without them. I ask all my clients to get legal advice when they are going through separation. When I have that conversation I often find that people don't want to go to a lawyer. They are scared of lawyers for different reasons. They think that if they speak to a lawyer, it will make the conflict get worse and that lawyers just want to go to court and not help resolve the issues. I agree that it is important you get a good lawyer that suits your needs. Someone who gives you options and is there to support you so you can make the best decisions possible. In this episode I speak with Vincent Tan who is a partner at Clairs Keeley and I ask him what he believes his role is as a family lawyer. This episode of Conversations to Cut the Conflict is pretty special as I have asked my sister in law to join me for a conversation in this episode about our family conflict and her area of expertise in health and nutrition. What we talk in this episode:How important nutrition is for your mood, headspace and ability to perform in life. Why what you eat and when you eat it impacts your mood and headspace, which impacts your ability to deal with difficult situations in life.AND We have an honest conversation in this episode about how we deal with our family conflict. You will find out in this episode if I practise what I preach from the people closest to me.I almost did not publish this episode because at one point you can hear my kids in the background playing basketball and running up and down the stairs in my house. It is not really a problem for the recording but I was worried it might not sound professional enough.I recorded this episode a couple of weeks ago, it was a pupil free day and I was helping a friend out so her children were at our house as well. After some thought I decided to publish it anyway, because Imogen and I have a great conversation which I want to share and not everything has to be perfect. And maybe having some background noise it is actually perfect as it is authentic. I am a parent that has to juggle parenting and working and sometimes this is what it looks like!I really enjoyed recording this episode there is so much in it and I hope you will love it too
In this episode I interview Bethan Winn and she is a critical thinking facilitator. You might wonder what that actually is! Bethan will answer that question for you in this episode as I had the same question.Bethan is knowledgeable and has a great way of explaining concepts in an easy and entertaining manner. We not only talk about what a critical thinking facilitator is, but what critical thinking is.As human beings we often make decisions quite unconsciously and we are influenced by our environment and our circumstances. Bethan explains how our brain operates, and how we can actually make decisions that are good for us and not based on what other people think and not based on what our environment is telling us to do. This is a great episode to listen to if you are interested in finding out how to make better decisions in your life that works well for you!
In this episode, I'm talking about perception - a topic that's so close to my heart. I love it so much because every time I facilitate conflict resolution training, this is the topic that most of the participants tell me made the the biggest difference to them and often they email me how it changed their life in a positive way. That is the reason I wanted to share these concepts in my podcast, so you can benefit from it and make changes to your life.I will discuss how perception causes conflict and how it also can resolve conflict powerfully. When you get how perception works for all human beings you will experience more peace of mind and freedom. So listen to this podcast episode here so you can change your life!
In this episode, I am discussing such an important topic! It is a topic that we don't necessarily like to talk about, which is what will happen after we pass away. Nobody likes to think about this, but if you do not organise it well, it can create a lot of family conflict during an already difficult time.I'm interviewing Lucy Percy from Head and Heart Estate Planning. She helps people to create their wills and does their Estate Planning with them. We talk about how much conflict can occur after people pass away and Lucy gives tips and tricks on how to avoid this as much as possible. The conversation with Lucy reframed for me how I see wills and estate planning. Instead of dreading thinking about this subject and putting it off, I have reframed it to: How wonderful that we can help to set up our families deal with losing us in the best way possible!Think about it this way - if you do not organise anything, your loved ones, who are grieving, have to make a lot of decisions. Making decisions is hard when you are grieving at the best of times, but it is even harder when you are not sure what the deceased person would have wanted. This is one of the things that people get in conflict about with each other. Everyone might have a different idea of what you wanted based on how they knew you or what you talked to them about and it can lead to a lot of mess that you could have prevented.I now look at doing my will and estate planning as a way of taking care of my loved ones when I am no longer there. When your wishes are crystal clear, people can just do what you asked. This way they do not have to make as many decisions while they are grieving and they know they are doing what you wanted them to do, which can give people a lot of comfort.I really enjoyed this conversation, I learned something new and it was a beautiful conversation in general full of heartfelt stories. Listen to this episode here on your preferred platform!
In this episode, I interview Emily Smith from Be Think Do Coaching. Emily is a mind expansion coach who works with her clients through hypnosis. What can you do when you worry about “what if people don't like me”, or how can you help yourself when you want to do something but you feel that you might not want to do it because you think people around you or society may disapprove. This is a juicy fun filled episode you do not want to miss.
