The Fortress On A Hill (FOH) Podcast is a highly informative and thought-provoking show that delves into the intersection of foreign policy, democracy, and ethics. The hosts bring the tough issues to the forefront of public consciousness, engaging in brilliant and well-thought-out conversations that we need to have more often and out in the open. This podcast is not afraid to tackle difficult topics, ultimately making us all better human beings.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to bring attention to important issues that are often overlooked or underreported by mainstream news outlets. While the media may be obsessing over trivial matters, FOH focuses on topics that truly matter, such as foreign policy and military involvement. The interviews conducted on the show are enlightening and provide unique perspectives from writers, experts, and veterans who shed light on important subjects that many may not even know exist.
Another great aspect of FOH is its host's ability to remain disciplined and fearless when discussing controversial topics. They do not shy away from tackling issues head-on, even if they are uncomfortable or challenging. By openly discussing these tough issues, they encourage listeners to engage in critical thinking and challenge their own beliefs.
However, one potential drawback of this podcast is that it may not appeal to everyone due to its focus on foreign policy and military-related topics. Some listeners may prefer lighter content or different subject matter. Additionally, while the hosts strive for a non-partisan approach, there may still be instances where some listeners perceive a certain bias or feel as though specific viewpoints are being favored.
In conclusion, The Fortress On A Hill Podcast is an exceptional show that consistently provides educational content on important issues related to foreign policy and military involvement. It offers unique perspectives from experts and veterans who challenge conventional narratives. Despite its potential limitations in terms of subject matter appeal and perceived bias by some listeners, this podcast remains a valuable resource for those seeking thought-provoking discussions and a deeper understanding of the complexities of our world.
Jovanni is joined by Lia Tarachansky, an Israeli-Canadian journalist and filmmaker. Lia shares her journey from being born in Soviet Ukraine to her family's move to Israel and later to Canada, her career in journalism, and her engagement in Palestinian solidarity work. The discussion delves into the complex layers of the Israel-Palestine conflict, systemic discrimination, and the role of media in decolonizing narratives. Tarchansky also speaks about her latest academic work focusing on the use of augmented reality to bring Palestinian history to Israeli consciousness and reflects on the growing anti-Zionist Jewish movements. Jovonni and “Mia” discuss how America's focus on global dominance affects its citizens. “Mia” shares her struggles with the U.S. healthcare system after a lung cancer diagnosis. Jovanni and Shiloh are joined by Levi and Rogue to discuss their roles at campus protests in Michigan and the larger student-led protests across the US in the now 268-day-long siege on Gaza. The discussion covers the parallels of student-led protests reminiscent of the Vietnam War era, their demands for divestment from Israeli apartheid, increased Jewish participation in the anti-Zionist struggle, and the responses from university administrations. Levi is a student at the University of Michigan, an Air Force veteran, and a Quaker. Levi is involved with the Divestment Coalition at the university, the TAHRIR Coalition, Levy was a participant at the U.M. encampment from April until the 21st of May.My name is Rogue, I'm a political artist and activist in the city they call Detroit. I'm affiliated with an Anarchist Artist Collective based in Detroit that is focused on queer liberation. I was a participant in the Wayne State University encampment as an autonomous person. On May 30th the University Police launched a raid against the encampment at 5 am. I was off-site at the time and returned to a small protest forming on Anthony Wayne Drive, we witnessed cops hiding badges and numbers, ripping the hijabs off several women when they violently attacked a group of protestors.Main website: https://www.fortressonahill.comLet me guess. Shiloh Emelein and Rachell Tucker joins us to discuss the state of reproductive justice and abortion access within the U.S. military. We cover the Dobbs decision from the Supreme Court, how President Biden could take much bigger strides in his “defense” of abortion rights, and a whole lot more. Shiloh Emelein (they/them/theirs) is a queer, trans, non-binary creature living with their fluffy cat on Ohlone Land (also known as the Bay area, California). Their world view and moral compass were turned upside down while deployed with a Marine Helicopter Support Unit in Al Anbar Province, Iraq and then Kuwait City. They joined About Face: Veterans Against War in 2018 with the hope in action to catalyze change and repair the harms caused by the Military-Industrial Complex. Shiloh believes that the reclamation and celebration of our bodies, our joy, and our pleasure is at the core of demilitarizing ourselves, our beliefs, and the structures we currently live within. They are thrilled to have the chance to care for the About Face community in a light of collective liberation and collective healing. Rachell Tucker is an anti-imperialist veteran of the US Army 2002 to 2011. She is an educator and activist who lives in San Antonio Texas, but born and raised in Miami, FL. She is a member of about face vets against the war and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Author and podcaster Tom Secker, host of the ClandesTime podcast and writer / publisher of Spyculture.com, joins us to discuss the 2005 Tom Cruise movie, War Of The Worlds, which is based on the famous H.G. Wells novel. Both its development and release during the early days of the War on Terror and the war in Iraq give it that “Could this be terrorists…again?!!” facade, while the military units seem more interested in crowd control than fighting the aliens. Lastly, it's undeniably a Steven Spielberg movie through and through; be prepared to root for a hero who does almost nothing heroic. We're now on Telegram!!!! Ross Caputi and Scott Spaulding join us to discuss The Sacking of Fallujah, both the event and the book which Ross co-wrote. Fallujah is seen by the American empire as a great victory over the burgeoning Sunni insurgency during the early years of Operation Iraqi Freedom, but for the people of Fallujah and their descendants, it is nothing less than the entire destruction and poisoning of their people and land. Birth defects are rampant among the population, spurred by the use of heavy munitions like white phosphorus, depleted uranium, and thermobariacs, which have destroyed the environment for generations. Ross' book, The Sacking of Fallujah: A People's History (Culture and Politics in the Cold War and Beyond), is a great primer on the subject, as well as a detailed microcosm of the war in Iraq and its tactics. I consider it a must-buy. We're now on Telegram!!!! Here's part 2 of our discussion with Camilo Mejia, this one focusing much more on Nicaragua, the history of the Sandinista movement, and the many ways U.S. hybrid warfare affects it all. Road from Ar Ramadi: The Private Rebellion of Sergeant Camilo Mejia Camilo Mejia was born in Nicaragua but moved to the US as an adolescent. Shortly after graduating from high school, after only two college semesters, he joined the U.S. Military and was eventually deployed to Iraq in 2003. After five months in active combat, including posts in Baghdad, al Haditha, al Assad, and al Ramadi he was sent home on leave, where he recognized and publicly condemned the Iraq war as criminal and immoral. He was subsequently court-martialed and charged with desertion, and sent to serve nine months of incarceration at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Mejia lives in Miami and continues to actively speak out against U.S. imperialism. We're now on Telegram!!!! Tom Secker and Matt Alford joins us to discuss their new project, Theaters of War, a documentary on the role of the U.S. military / national security state in censoring and creative control of Hollywood film and T.V. projects. While the documentary does follow some of the evidence discussed in National Security Cinema, Tom and Matt's book from five years go, the documentary is an expansion and discussion of much more than was known when National Security Cinema was released. We also touch a bit on Top Gun: Maverick. The first five people who message me after the episode drops, I will give $5 each through Paypal to go rent Theaters of War today. The only catch is you have to message or email me after and let me know what you thought of the documentary. Just email me at fortressonahill@protonmail.com or message me through Facebook, Twitter, or Telegram.
