Israel case before the International Court of Justice in December 2023. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant in November 2024 for Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity as part of the ICC investigation in Palestine. Netanyahu was born in 1949 in Tel Aviv. His mother, Tzila Segal, was born in Petah Tikva in the Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem—her family had migrated from Minneapolis in 1911, having relocated there from Lithuania in the 1870s—and studied law at Gray’s Inn, London. His father, Warsaw-born Benzion Netanyahu (né Mileikowsky), was a historian specializing in the Jewish Golden Age of Spain. His paternal grandfather, Nathan Mileikowsky, was a rabbi and Zionist writer. When Netanyahu’s father immigrated to Mandatory Palestine, he adopted a Hebrew surname of “Netanyahu”, meaning “God has given.” While his family is predominantly Ashkenazi, he has said that a DNA test revealed some Sephardic ancestry. He claims descent from the Vilna Gaon. At MIT, Netanyahu studied a double-load while taking courses at Harvard University, completing his bachelor’s degree in architecture in two and a half years, despite taking a break to fight in the Yom Kippur War. Professor Leon B. Groisser at MIT recalled: “He did superbly. He was very bright. Organized. Strong. Powerful. He knew what he wanted to do and how to get it done.” At that time he changed his name to Benjamin “Ben” Nitai (Nitai, a reference to both Mount Nitai and to the eponymous Jewish sage Nittai of Arbela, was a pen name often used by his father for articles). Years later, in an interview with the media, Netanyahu clarified that he decided to do so to make it easier for Americans to pronounce his name. This fact has been used by his political rivals to accuse him indirectly of a lack of Israeli national identity and loyalty. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time. In this episode of Counterpunch Radio, Rebecca Maria Goldschmidt speaks with Emanuel Ovadia, a researcher and educator on radical Jewish traditions in the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region. Emanuel shares stories of Muslim-Jewish relations, the politics of language, and the Jewish radical traditions outside of the typical “Ashkenormative” European or American Jewish left. We discuss how the multi-lingual, transnational, and transcultural history of the region debunks zionist myths of Jewish supremacy, and the importance of uplifting the cultural memory of ancestors who may have been assimilated into “Israeli” or other colonial identities across the SWANA region. You can find Emanuel’s quarterly zine, Gazoz De Frambuaz, and his Instagram at https://linktr.ee/gdframbuaz. Alvaro Orlando is a multifaceted filmmaker, actor, and dating coach whose work bridges entertainment and personal development. He wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the comedy feature film The Pickup Artist, a project directly inspired by his extensive real-world experience coaching individuals on dating, confidence-building, communication skills, and fostering genuine emotional connections. The film follows a hopeless romantic who, after a painful breakup, enrolls in a pick-up artist bootcamp—only to discover that such tactics may hinder authentic love. Through sharp humor, rapid pacing, and emotional candor, it critiques rigid modern dating “rules” while advocating for vulnerability, self-awareness, and authentic self-presentation.Orlando's authenticity in portraying dating dynamics stems from his background as a practicing dating and relationship coach. He has spent years guiding clients—both men and women—through challenges in attraction, interpersonal skills, and forming healthier relationships, often emphasizing practical strategies over superficial techniques. His coaching perspective informs the film's satirical take on pickup culture versus meaningful connection, positioning him as an insightful commentator on contemporary romance. As an actor, Orlando has built a credible career with roles in notable projects, including the Sundance-selected I Am Not a Hipster, the Lionsgate release Counterpunch (for which he received a Best Actor award at the 2013 Downtown L.A. Film Festival), and various television appearances. Earlier in his career, he gained public recognition by winning VH1's reality series The Pickup Artist (under the nickname “Kosmo”), an experience that highlighted his charismatic on-screen presence and quirky energy while engaging with dating-themed content.Currently, The Pickup Artist is scheduled for screenings at two festivals: the Golden State Film Festival (February 26 – March 6, 2026, at TCL Chinese Theatres 6) and the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival (March 4 – 14, 2026, at L.A. Live Regal Cinemas). Orlando's dual expertise makes him an engaging guest for segments exploring effective dating advice, the pitfalls of pickup artistry, modern masculinity and emotional honesty, red flags in early dating, and transforming personal experiences into comedic insight.

Today, host Esty Dinur is joined by Jennifer Loewenstein to debrief about the ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestine. They discuss what's happening in Gaza and the status of the ceasefire and Gaza “Board of Peace.” Loewenstein says that nothing has changed in Gaza since the ceasefire except the intensity of bombing, which has decreased, but not ceased. She describes the partitioning of Gaza into green and red “zones” and the “yellow line” that marks the line of Israeli occupation. Over two million Palestinians have been pushed into the “red zone” along the coast where they are living in non-winterized tents in conditions that Loewenstein calls “abject misery.” Meanwhile the Rafa crossing remains closed and Israel is planning concentration camps for Palestinians. Loewenstein says that the ceasefire and the creation of the “Board of Peace” have been successful in keeping what's happening in Gaza out of the news. She says that “it's scandalous that no Palestinians are on the Board and after two years of genocide that what's happening is a deeper entrenchment of the occupation.” They also discuss the role of gangs in the “red zone,” the deliberate targeting of journalists, and the wiping out UNRWA. Loewenstein says that what's happening in Gaza is an expression of Western imperialism and the expansion of Israeli hegemony around the Middle East. Jennifer Loewenstein is an American activist, journalist, and founder of the Madison-Rafah Sister City Project. Her work has appeared in academic journals such as The Journal of Palestine Studies, and she is a regular contributor to the CounterPunch magazine. In this special episode of CounterPunch Radio, Bill Ayers, friend of Pilsen Community Books and fellow podcaster at Under the Tree, introduces Amos Kennedy and fellow artists and activists Monica Trinidad and Chi Nwosu. This evening at Pilsen Community Books in Chicago included a packed-house crowd for a celebration for the release of Citizen Printer by renowned letterpress printer Amos P. Kennedy, Jr. A self-described “humble negro printer,” Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., is internationally recognized for his type-driven messages of social justice and Black power, emblazoned in rhythmically layered and boldly inked prints made for the masses. Borrowing words from civil rights heroes such as Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Frederick Douglass, and Sojourner Truth, Kennedy issues fearless statements on race, capitalism, history, and politics—along with plenty of witty truisms—in his exuberant, colorful, and one-of-a-kind posters and handbills. Amos P. Kennedy, Jr. was working a corporate job when, at nearly forty, he discovered the art of letterpress printing on a tour of Colonial Williamsburg. Kennedy then devoted himself to the craft, earning an MFA in graphic design at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He now operates Kennedy Prints!, a letterpress printshop in Detroit. He has exhibited in dozens of museums and galleries across the United States, including the Library of Congress, and the libraries of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Monica Trinidad (she/they) is a queer Latine visual artist, communicator, and cultural strategist. A lifelong Chicagoan, Monica has created zines, graphics, mixed media posters, communication strategies, and plans highlighting youth-led, intergenerational, and intersectional grassroots organizing work in Chicago and nationally. Chi Nwosu is a Black, non-binary, queer, Nigerian artist based in Chicago. Their work is an alchemy of cultural narratives that centres marginalised experiences and utilises potent cultural, political, and spiritual symbols. Chi's art invites viewers to imagine collective liberation, envisioning communities rooted in kindness, compassion, and care. Please, head over to Pilsen Community Books and pick up some books! Send us a textJanuary 2026. We navigate a landscape where advocacy, social media, and surveillance blur into a digital haze. To face the mounting crisis, we must trace the analog patterns that first forged the cage.In July 2021, I spoke over the phone with Jeffrey Blankfort—a Jewish-American journalist whose memory as a veteran Palestinian solidarity activist is a breach in the static. Blankfort deconstructs the Anti-Defamation League—the ADL—looking past the shield of civil rights to find a critical node in a transnational espionage network. We return to his landmark exposure of an illegal surveillance web; a clandestine bridge built between the Israel lobby and apartheid South Africa to monitor the American pulse. Beginning in 2021, when Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (now X) censored posts by Palestinians protesting their expulsion from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah to today's genocide in Gaza, Big Tech has advanced an imperialist agenda and betrayed its own alleged commitment to free speech and democratic values. Through alliances with the Israeli government and Zionist activists, they have leveraged their massive power to spread propaganda, silence criticism of Israel, and smear dissenters. In our latest, we talk with Prof. Omar Zahzah (@omarzahzah.bsky.social), professor at San Francisco State, and author of "TERMS OF SERVITUDE: zionism, silicon valley, and digital settler colonialism in the palestinian liberation struggle," to discuss the censorship of pro-Palestinian voices, targeting of the Palestinian liberation movement in Gaza and beyond, and the spreading of Zionist propaganda being done by Big Tech. Please listen in on this important interview. The Palestinian liberation struggle is a fundamental class and anti-colonial issue. First-time guest to the podcast, Professor Omar Zahzah, talks with Steve about the active collaboration of Silicon Valley tech giants with the US and Israeli governments to censor and suppress anti-Zionist narratives. "What these companies are doing is digitally amplifying a physical process of settler colonial dispossession." Omar goes beyond labeling digital censorship as simple political bias. He argues that Silicon Valley's actions are a direct extension of imperialist goals in Palestine: the erasure of a people, their narrative, and their history. Big Tech is not a referee – not even a biased one. It is an active combatant. Omar provides a sharp critique of how the language of safety and anti-racism is co-opted and weaponized. Online platforms use terms like "harassment" and "hate speech" to silence criticism. In their discussion, Omar and Steve apply Antonio Gramsci's theory of cultural hegemony to the digital sphere. They analyze how Big Tech platforms shape our "common sense," not just through outright censorship, but through algorithmic curation, shadow-banning, and overwhelming activists with trolls and bots, waging a "digital war of attrition" that drains energy and shifts perceptions. They also suggest the potential TikTok ban is not just a US-China trade issue but a symptom of a crisis of hegemony. Recently the US Military has been bombing boats in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela. This marks a major escalation, and a new development in the US Empire's hybrid war on Venezuela that has been waged over the last 20 years. In this episode we speak with Joe Emersberger who along with Justin Podour authored the book Extraordinary Threat: The US Empire, the Media, and Twenty Years of Coup Attempts in Venezuela for Monthly Review Press. "All Elements in Place for a US Strike on Venezuela" by Joe Emersberger and Richard Harris on Venezuelanalysis We talk about the origins of this tactic of aerial assassinations, its deployment in international waters, and whether we could see the US expand its assassination program to target government leaders like Nicolas Maduro as we have seen the so-called state of Israel do - with full US backing - across West Asia. We also discuss the merging of war on drugs policies with the policies of the war on terror, and contextualize these so-called wars. Dr. Reagan is a native Texan, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. His graduate degrees were earned in the field of International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy of Tufts and Harvard Universities. Before entering the ministry, he had an extensive career in higher education. David is a life-long Bible student, teacher, and preacher. He entered the full-time ministry in 1976 when he was called to serve as the pulpit minister for a church in Irving, Texas. He has written over 20 books and has contributed to many others. Today we talk about the rising perilous tide all around us, starting with Israel's brilliant attack on Iran. Then we discuss whether socialism is our expected national doom, as the left ratchets up every cause they can dream of, including antisemitism - an offense to a holy God. Lawlessness and violence threaten to spill over to any community on any day as the left uses whatever crisis suits them to foment trouble. Never mind that they themselves are lawless at heart, when the president tries to establish law and order, and it is vilified, we know just how far the violence has permeated our fragile sense of society. We also talk about the national marches planned for Saturday as it is Trump's 79th birthday and the 250th anniversary of our Army. The No Kings Movement is gaining steam from the left and could change the face of our nation yet again. What could happen next on this fragile planet is anyone's guess.
