We're diving back into the gorgeous and terrifying world of MONSTRESS, brought to us by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. This book is a densely-packed dive into a society built on magic, slavery, and brutal control. It should go without saying that the art is incredible, from its style to its content, and we are all amazed by how easily MONSTRESS swept us into its grasp. Maika continues her relentless quest to learn more about her past, leaving both old friends and new enemies in her wake. She struggles to understand her own power, as it often (literally) bursts from her without warning. Now that we've finished the first volume, we can't wait to start the next one! But with the help of his new mortal friend Charlie, Aster looks for a way to follow his heart (and his growing talent) without losing his family along the way. We dive deep on this one, discussing our feelings about gender, equality, and how today's political climate affects so many kids growing up in the US right now. This week we're headed back to the quaint New England town of Lovecraft, where magical keys are plentiful and wishing wells have dark shadows lurking at their hearts. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez bring us three short stories from the world of LOCKE & KEY. The first is a bittersweet but lovely story about a father and his dying son, and explores what you might find on the other side of the moon. The second has a much more familiar tone, and involves a group of criminals who think the family living in the big house on the hill will be easy pickings, but guns are no match for the Locke family's keys. The third tale is a bit sillier, and plays more as a joke about the IDW publishing house than as a real story. We discuss which story was our favorite of the three, our favorite parts of the original Locke & Key story, and the production of a Locke & Key show AT LONG LAST. Did you have a favorite story? And who would you cast to play the Locke kids on the new Netflix show? We'll be busy crafting our own magical keys, to find a way to take us into the future when the show has already aired.

We also talk about all the new trailers that dropped in the last month as well as just what's wrong with some of the choices those movies have made... There's also a new season of Gamebangers and the field is wide open for either a returning champion or a brand new one!!

It's the beginning of a brand-new journey for the INVINCIBLE IRON MAN title, and we are so happy to be here at the starting line! After the shenanigans of Civil War II, teenaged Riri Williams is taking the titanium-alloy reins from a not-quite-deceased Tony Stark. We couldn't care less about the INFAMOUS Doom; as far as we're concerned, Riri's Ironheart, as depicted by Brian Michael Bendis and Stefano Caselli, is the real heir to the throne.

We all want to be social justice warriors, but most of us can’t punch a tank. Allison Green can, but she’s retired. And actually, she’s not sure if tank-punching is even all that useful. This week we’re talking STRONG FEMALE PROTAGONIST, an ongoing webcomic by Brennan Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag. In the first two chapters, we see Allison struggle with the idea of normalcy in a post-cape existence. Like most twentysomethings, she wonders about her place in the world, her purpose, and how to make the world better (without so much tank-punching).

Who loves Vader the most? Who hates C3PO the most? Who caught the Indiana Jones reference? All this and murder jokes this week on Girls Interrupting!

The Girls Go Political

Hello listeners and welcome to our next Full Episode (we are super early but we just got too excited to wait)! This month the Girls cover a range of topics in the Bullpen from new superhero tv to new comics to the fierce joy that is the set pictures from Ocean's 8! We also talk a whole lot of politics and current events just before focusing on our comic for this month: MARCH by US Representative, John Lewis with Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell. Mr. Lewis tells us about his experience in the fledgling Civil Rights Movement of the early 1950s against the juxtaposition of attending the 2009 Inauguration of the first black president of the United States. It is a moving and historical book that pulls no punches about just what was done in order to get the Civil Rights Movement off the ground, let alone to a place where it would be successful. We also wanted to talk to you about something extremely important to us–anyone that listens to this podcast knows we are adamant supporters of justice, truth, and equality. The last few months of political gamesmanship and immoral, illegal, and prejudiced behavior by Trump and his administration have saddened and outraged us. What HASN’T been disappointing is the resistance movement this has inspired. We are so proud of our fellow Americans standing up for everything that truly makes this country great, that we are asking for your help in supporting two amazing organizations: Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. We are part of a team holding a fundraiser for these two groups and we are giving you the opportunity to sponsor segments of upcoming episodes in the following ways: $5 = Ask us a question or solicit our opinion on any subject $20 = Pick a comic or topic that will be the focus of a mini-episode $35 = We will play a game of your creation in a future round of GameBangers! $50 = Co-host an episode with us on the comic of your choosing! In a local tale of terror recommended to us by one of our most loyal listeners, we peer behind the dusty curtains of the infamous Winchester Mystery House. It's true that Sarah Winchester was obsessed with continuously adding more and more rooms to her San Jose home after the death of her husband and daughter, but was it merely madness that drove her, or was something more sinister lurking in the halls built by the Winchester rifle? We dive into this tale by Peter J. Tomasi, Ian Bertram, and Dave Stewart to see if we can find out!
