Writers Brenden Fletcher and Cecil Castellucci join us for an amazing in-depth look at a character with which they're both very familiar: Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl. Brenden, along with Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr, introduced us the world to the mega-popular "Batgirl of Burnside," taking over for Gail Simone. Cecil has only just begun her tenure as the new writer for DC's Batgirl, starting with issue #37 in July. Together, we break down this iconic hero of Gotham City in front of a full room at San Diego Comic-Con!

This week, the guys talk about Detective Pikachu, Once upon a Deadpool, the final trailer for DC's Aquaman and more before going over the main topic for this week; how should you go about meeting the guests and celebrities at Dragon*Con (or anywhere)? How should you approach them, take pictures with/of them, or talk to them? We'll cover all that and more, in addition to some basic cosplay/actor/public photo etiquette in this week's DCSG!
It's Paul and Al's tenth anniversary episode, where they remember Anthea Bell, laugh for quite a long time about Writer X and the "revelation" of his identity, and chat briefly about Vault Comics' new YA line (in particular, about Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover's Wrassle Castle), before going into extended examinations/rambles/digressions about The Green Lantern and Lost Light, and once again raid the playbook of excellent videogame podcast Bitsocket as they play Is It Canon?. They've also got messages from some of their friends in the comics podcasting world, and the audio from the SILENCE! To Astonish panel which took place at Thought Bubble in September, featuring Gary Lactus and the Beast Must Die of SILENCE! and an all-star line-up of guests (John McCrea, Matthew Rosenberg, Sam Humphries and Babs Tarr).

YOU’RE GONNA BE REMEMBERED FOR THE THINGS THAT YOU SAY AND DO If you only knew the existential dread with which I approach the writing of these blurbs. The loaded Colt 45 is sat on the table in front of me. Could this be the week? Come on. It’s easy. Just … just write something witty. Or pithy. Or surreal. Cold, dead lump of metal in my hand. It’s easy. Just write it. Find that concept. Something to hang your hat on. Something. Just. Write. Squeezing the trigger now. Just that sprung lever gently…gently… Oh wait! I’ve got it! It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… Welcome to the latest weekly edition of the internet’s most regular podcast, SILENCE! The podcast equivalent of All-Bran we are! Gary Lactus & The Beast Must Die, ah-coming on like a seventh sense! God knows – look this bastard was recorded across different times, locations and dimensions. It’s got everything in it and nothing. All life is contained here. The answer to the ultimate question could be in here. What’s definitely in here though is… Neighbours, Gary Lactus experiments with being right wing, TBMD explains comics gate to stupid old Gary Lactus, Redundant chat about the upcoming Thought Bubble which has by this point been and gone, Komisk, Sticky Ribs, The Beast has seen Infinity War, Gary and Little Barry Lactus on the park with a little bit of talk about Fantastic Four #2 and The March Hare, TBMD talking Knights of Pendragon, Recording of Ben Mitchell talking about The Storm Cloud Story from Thought Bubble, Silence To Astonish! with guests John McRea, Sam Humphries, Matthew Rosenberg and Babs Tarr, Post Tbubz chat, Doctor Who, Comedy and Errors written by Nick Bryan, Dead Rabbit and on and on and on. @silencepod @bobsymindless @frasergeesin @thebeastmustdie silencepodcast@gmail.com You can support us using Patreon if you like

The Joy of Comics Podcast, Episode 10: Adventures at HeroesCon 2016 With HeroesCon 2016 now officially in the books and the amazing adventures we had at this year's event still swirling around in our minds, it's time to sit back, relax, and try to make sense of it all. And to do that, we (Rich, Jordan and Kevin) have gathered in a secure location and invited a special guest - Lucas Santos - to give us his take on the con as a first-year attendee. How will his experience compare to that of us grizzled con veterans? You'll have to tune in and see. But if you're anything like us, these events are all about the comics and the creators - and we'll be discussing as many awesome artists, writers and books as one podcast can contain. We begin by taking a brief trip down HeroesCon-memory lane, and follow-up with an extensive journey up and down the wonderful weaving aisles of artists alley to chat with the likes of Jeremy Haun, Brendan Fletcher, Babs Tarr, Matt Fraction, Justin Greenwood, Rebecca Mock and more. And for the big finish, we discuss the many books we purchased in the exhibitor's area, and give you our thoughts on the ones we've managed to read so far. Over the course of the weekend, deals were found, a lot of cosplayers were photographed, and more than a few rookie mistakes were made, but we made it out alive and very happy with this year's HeroesCon. So come along as we discuss this awesome celebration of comics. This...is the Joy of Comics!

It's been over a year since DC shook up the Bat universe with the very youth driven Batgirl and Gotham Academy titles. Co-writer Brenden Fletcher talks about Gotham Academy's recent change in tone as well as it's inclusion of "Batman: the Animated Series" characters and the upcoming "Gotham Academy Yearbook". We also chat life in Burnside for Barbara Gordon and her crew, including the recent wedding of transgender groundbreaker Alysia Yeoh and artist Babs Tarr's fashion and design choices. Recently Fletcher has been writing Dinah Lance's spin off, "Black Canary" and we talk about her place beside the recent comic girl bands like Jem and the Holograms and Spider-Gwen, and his own musical background.
