The co-owner of Wood Stone Pizza grew up working in the restaurant scene in NWA and started front-of-house. Then he got pulled into the kitchen, and that's where his education truly began. Eventually he would open the Greenhouse Grill, and sleep there. And that's where he started the Roots Festival with others. Roots built into more than a music festival, as they brought award-winning chefs to Fayetteville a part of Roots. It was great until it wasn't. Jerrmy will tell that story. And where did he get the idea for Woodstone Pizza? It was while cooking on a street in a competition – crazy story. And what did they find when they acquired the uptown Woodstone? Even crazier. Yeesh And by the way, do you remember the Most Interesting Man in the World beer ads back in the day? Fayetteville's version just might be Jerrmy. Full episode on our Patreon. Vinnie Stigma is a foundational figure in the hardcore punk scene and the longtime guitarist of Agnostic Front; a band that helped define the New York hardcore sound. Their music touches on the realities of an early New York, social change and independent thought. Stigma's guitar work was central to releases like United Blood and Victim in Pain, albums that became cornerstones of the hardcore genre. Stigma was involved with Madball, a band fronted by Roger Miret's younger half-brother, Freddy Madball. He also launched a solo project under the name Stigma, releasing albums such as New York Blood and For Love and Glory. In 2024, Stigma published his autobiography, The Most Interesting Man in the World. The book delves into his upbringing in Little Italy, his experiences in the hardcore scene, and his passions outside of music, including cooking, acting, and martial arts. Stigma remains active in the music scene, performing with Agnostic Front and maintaining a strong presence in the NYHC community. http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkhttp://livingproofnewyork.com

Dr. James Perloff holds PhDs from Harvard, MIT and Oxford. He has been named “Mr. America” for seven years running. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for developing the world's only perpetual motion machine. He invented the Internet. He is the Most Interesting Man in the World — he doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he drinks Don Equis. Michael Jordan asked for HIS autograph. After five moves against him in a chess game, Bobby Fisher said, “I give up.” Hillary Clinton converted to conservatism after a 2-minute conversation with him. Mother Teresa went to confession to HIM. He is the author of the book Why Internet Junkies Will Believe Anything You Tell Them — winner of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. He also split the atom, and, as a child, trounced Einstein in a nationally televised science debate. https://jamesperloff.net

The season continues with a tale with too many left turns to count. Step aside Dos Equis man, because Arctic Explorer Peter Freuchen is certainly a contender for the title of "The Most Interesting Man in the World".
Do you remember that “Most Interesting Man in the World” Dos Equis beer advertising campaign that ran most from 2006 to 2018? It seemed like each episode's montage of experiences layered on more curiosity, which has some similarity to this episode's guest Samyr Laine. While it wasn't mentioned in our conversation, his time at Harvard also briefly included being Mark Zuckerberg's roommate but it then you'll hear briefly that interesting life included a 2012 Summer Olympics appearance, law school, then working for Major League Soccer, Jay Z, and Will Smith…before becoming a consumer-focused venture capitalist. Since much of that journey happened at the intersection of talent, brand, and culture…that's where my conversation with Samyr stayed, which provided some excellent depth of insights. We analyzed the evolution of talent involvement within consumer goods and detailed our most valuable non-negotiables when it comes to being successful as a talent-led brand. Samyr and I also explain why we believe this is still early innings of building celebrity brands, but also the transition strategy required for more exit events. Moreover, we talk about the nuance between creators, athletes, and celebrities that could make or break a talent-led consumer brand. But these are just some of the fascinating topics we chatted about in this episode... Her theatrical agent introduced her to Paul Anka, who shortly after began managing her music career and helped her sign a six-album contract with Warner Bros. Record by their President Rob Cavallo. Hello Listen Local Fam! DO WE HAVE A FUN ONE FOR YOU TODAY! We've said it before, but this might just be the MOST ENTERTAINING one yet. Stories that may or may not involve Toby Keith, Troy Gentry, Chris Janson, and a conversation with Lita Ford thats one for the books (or maybe album covers is a better term). Not only is the episode full of laughs, but Mike also touches on some really serious and emotional topics. To say Ernest Hemingway was a complex individual would be like proclaiming that water is wet, dogs are great, and going to concerts stoned is fantastic. It's a bit of an understatement. Hemingway's life was somehow more interesting than any of the fiction he wrote. And the guy won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction along with a Noble in Literature. He seemed to believe he was in a story in which he was the man character, and no matter where he went, everyone else were just side characters. A Journalist, Soldier, Award Winning Writer, Fisherman, Possible Spy, Journalist/Soldier Again, Multiple Times Divorced, Best Selling Author. He literally was, for all the good and the bad, The Most Interesting Man in the World. Let's get to it.

He's the MOST INTERESTING MAN in Australia. He pitched for 14 years in the Big Leagues. He led MLB in appearances at the age of 39. He now hosts the FARM TO FAME podcast, and broadcasts games for the Braves. It's PETER MOYLAN. His story is fascinating. From signing with the Twins at age 18, to being released at the age of 20. Then an 8 year period of odd jobs like...concreter, pool plummer, pest control salesman, pharmaceutcial rep...to his BIG BREAK at the WBC at the age of 28...it's a story of perseverance. What did he learn along the way? Got a good Bobby Cox story? What did he learn from Glavine and Smoltz? We unpack all of his favorite teammates. You might be surprised who his funniest teammate was. The Everyday Explorer comes in all shapes, sizes, ages and background. JW Eades is one of those characters. Who would have thought that a boy from rural North Carolina would end up hiking Mount Kilimanjaro or become an expert skiier traversing some of the most extreme slopes in the United States? JW certainly did not. So how does a country boy turn himself in to an international man of mystery? By paying attention and saying an immediate Yes without fear to adventures as they presented themselves throughout his life. At 80 years old, JW can now look back and philosophize on how and why he built these exploits in to his life experience. This conversation barely touches the tip of the iceberg with all of the things he has accomplished, but I especially loved his take aways about what he learned by touching different parts of the globe. Sit back and enjoy a conversation with The Most Interesting Man in the World.
My guest is Benjamin Wall. He's originally from the UK, now living in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The son of a former bank robber who was in-and-out of jail, my guest ironically had a successful career in finance, following work as a nightclub bouncer, debt collector and stripper.Nowadays, Ben supports himself day-trading, which long-time listeners will know: Me, as for me, I prefer to get rich slow. That's not to say Ben hasn't built wealth the long way—he's held long-term positions in $AAPL, $AMZN & $META, and continues to buy dips.Ben is also the co-owner & founder of a concierge service in "Playa" called Prestige Luxury Services. He's partnered with a doctor-friend of his in paradise to provide a fully-holistic approach to tourism, health and well-being—all while vacationing ('holidaying' he might say:) in PDC and surrounding areas.About the colorful life my guest has lived. Ben has resided in: Costa Rica (Manuel Antonio), South Africa (Cape Town), Thailand (Phuket), not to mention he's from the United Kingdom (Bristol). In this episode, we discuss Ben's relationship with his father, who was consistently in-and-out of jail. He says although his dad was charismatic and extremely intelligent—he was also very violent and manipulative. He says his father instilled lots of contradictory advice over the years. In fact, his dad taught him to hate those "born into money;" or those part of institutions, which of course included those in positions of authority. While most kids bond with their fathers over hunting, fishing & other sports—Ben's dad would tell stories about prison. Or getting stabbed. He'd teach Ben techniques to severely wound a man—the sort of know-how you'd probably only learn behind bars—where it's either you or the other guy headed to the great certainty. So for a long time, Ben wrestled with who he was and what he wanted to be. He tried the corporate world. Logged 15 years in finance, Even vagabonded across SE Asia and surfed the coastlines of Costa Rica.He visited Phuket, Thailand. Wait till you hear the story of how Ben managed to survive the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.When my wife & I visited Phuket, Phi Phi Islands, & Krabi in 2016—I must've watched the Youtube videos of the tsunami 15 times. It was chilling to have the opportunity to speak with someone who was in Phuket when the tsunami hit; to chat with a man who saw dead bodies floating around him. He'd see guys in board shorts looking like zombies, knowing they had nothing else to their name—no money, no wallet, no passport.Ben says he won't go back [to Thailand]. I don't think I could either.Luckily, Ben and his travel buddy managed to find a hotel that was at a high elevation. I'll let him tell you the rest of the story, which he says was the most horrifying experience of his life. Please enjoy.(By the way, I debated calling this episode: The Most Interesting Man in the World. I explain in the Intro why I didn't. But holey shmoley—this is worth a listen.)
Wait, wasn't this guy here just a month ago? Yep, on Episode 422, which began with a mixup on who was hosting whom. But now, for reals, Spanny is hosting Jon Bier, who, as you will hear, is a legitimate candidate for the actual Most Interesting Man in the World. Spanny and Jon met over ten years ago through PR that Jon was doing with UFC fighters. Now Jon shares his path from Montreal to Thailand to Australia to New York, Los Angeles, and Hawaii. Along the way there was surfing, boxing, lackluster school days that nevertheless led to Jon's passing the New York bar, with by-ways into depression and low self-esteem, then on into discovering unique gifts for PR and creating and leading his own prominent 50-person firm. Oh, and buying a ghost town on top of a silver mine, as one does. He speaks in this episode of wanting to come back to say more on living a life well-lived, which he doesn't equate with work and success. Yes, Jon, please do come back again. ... [Cue Latin jazz music] It is the content that sells itself. It ranks #1 – no matter what you Google. It is the most interesting B2B marketing content in the world. And it's yours.Or at least it could be, after listening to this episode. Because we're showing you branding tricks from the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in the World campaign. In this episode, we break down the slogan that helped triple sales for Dos Equis. According to PRNewswire, about fifty percent of customers rely on your slogan when considering doing business with you. Few things are more important for B2B marketing, so we're here to help you ensure your slogan is as amazing as your product is.Why Dos Equis? The brand's slogan was a key part of the Most Interesting Man in the World campaign that nearly tripled business for Dos Equis. During the campaign, the number of cases of Dos Equis shipped increased by nearly 35%, and Heineken estimated that around 25% of its growth in the future would come from the Dos Equis brand. The ad also became a part of the cultural zeitgeist, inspiring countless memes, spoofs, and Halloween costumes. So the Most Interesting Man in the World campaign has paid off for Dos Equis. Could a similarly bold campaign pay off for your B2B marketing?About Dos EquisDos Equis is a Mexican lager-style beer made by the Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery, based in Monterrey, Mexico. The brewery was founded by German immigrant Wilhelm Hasse in 1890 and is currently owned by Heineken. The same brewery also produces Tecate and Sol. The Most Interesting Man in the World ads were created by Karl Lieberman and Brandon Henderson for an agency called EuroRSCG, New York. They aired in the U.S. from 2007 to 2015. Jonathan Goldsmith played the titular character, and the spots were narrated by William Lyman. The campaign features the Most Interesting Man in the World, Hemingway-esque character whose worldly larger-than-life exploits include bench-pressing women, sewing his own stitches, and swan diving from cliffs. The Most Interesting Man would end the commercials by saying the brand's two-part slogan: “Because of the campaign, the two-part slogan, “I don't always drink beer, but when I do I prefer Dos Equis,” and “Stay thirsty, my friends,” the Dos Equis brand decidedly set itself apart. It wasn't just for the leisurely beach-going dude – it was for the dudes who aspired to be something more…interesting. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Dos Equis:Your slogan should speak to your customer's aspirations. Do consumer research to get to know your customers. Whether it's your current or target customers, find out what motivates them. Is it wealth? A desire to belong? Getting a thrill? The team behind the Dos Equis slogan got wind that their male customers wanted to feel like they were more sophisticated. Working from this, they devised The Most Interesting Man in the World campaign.Would I wear the t-shirt? This is self-explanatory. But let's dig deeper into what that means. If someone wants to wear your brand's T-shirt, then they also feel an emotional investment in your brand. So remember, a catchy slogan isn't enough. You've also got to figure out how to create brand ambassadors through your campaigns.Make it a CTA. Call your customers to action with your slogan. Many of the greats do this: Nike tells its customers to “just do it," Subway challenges theirs to “eat fresh,” and Toyota extends an invitation by simply saying, “Let's go places.” These CTA's are incredibly simple, and that's also why audiences respond to them. An effective CTA gets potential customers' attention and deepens engagement with current customers. Ultimately, it guides them to your marketing funnel and leads them to conversion.Key Quotes*”The slogan is, ‘Stay thirsty, my friends.' And like that's a key differentiator, right? Is like the aspirational part of your slogan, which is, you want your community or your fans or whatever, or the people who purchase your product, uh, to do X, Y, and Z, to live a great life, to explore, to, you know, innovate, to do whatever it is that you want them to do. Like that is aspirational. Talking about your company is very different. And like, this is what I call the wear the t-shirt moment is like, would you wear a t-shirt that says, I prefer Dos Equis?” - Ian Faison*”When you talk about creating an iconic character to deliver the slogan and the message, it's like people dress up like this guy for Halloween, the actor, the actor slash in in character was invited to the White House to sit with Obama. I mean, that's insane.” - Dane Eckerle*”Here always has to be something that you're telling your audience to go look at, to go read, to go watch, to go like follow up on or talk to someone. And I feel like this is probably the most like natural, like funny, relatable cTA that's been part of a brand's slogan, like, just stay thirsty, my friends like go out like, like Ian said, like go out, like have adventures, like do all these cool things.” - Anagha DasTime Stamps[2:51] Tell me more about Dos Equis[5:30] How successful was the campaign?[6:56] How did Dos Equis differentiate their brand with the slogan?[14:48] What makes a great slogan?[16:39] How could a good slogan affect your bottom line?[19:48] Why should you make your slogan a CTA? About This Episode: Jonathan Goldsmith is an actor who began his career on the New York stage, then started a career in film and television. He appeared in several TV shows from the 1960s to the 1990s. Before becoming the Most Interesting Man in the World, Jonathan worked as a garbage collector, crashed in bug-infested apartments, and snuck into strangers' bar mitzvahs for free food. He appeared in hundreds of plays, movies, and TV shows, including Dallas, Gunsmoke, and the Clint Eastwood film Hang 'Em High (1968). After he retired from his showbiz career, he found success in a network marketing company for waterless car-wash products – but after his business partnership went bad, he lost it all. It was that loss that pushed him back to Hollywood and helped him to find his defining role as “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” Jonathan has been an advocate for landmine victim support and has assisted the Morris Animal Foundation in their efforts to prevent and cure cancer in dogs. He also supported the S.A.B.R.E Foundation, Free Arts for Abused Children, which pairs artists with children in protective custody, and the Stella Link Foundation, a group calling attention to child sex trafficking in Cambodia. For Jonathan, a large part of his life is about giving back. Truth be told, the “Most Interesting Man in the World” character from the Dos Equis ads has got nothing on John McAfee, as author Mark Eglinton documents in his new book “No Domain: The John McAfee Tapes”. Originally dreamed up as McAfee's autobiography ghostwritten by Eglinton, the book takes an unusual, though not completely unexpected twist, as John is arrested in Spain and held for eight months inside a prison. Though not the first time McAfee has seen the inside of a prison cell, this would turn out to be his last. Or was it? From his time as a drug-fueled programmer in the 70s and early 80s to almost two decades of sobriety combined with the launch of the first commercial antivirus software company, John McAfee had a knack for always staying one step ahead of disaster. Sometimes, however, the luck just runs out.
