In this episode we discuss the world premiere of the new "Superman" movie, cast interviews, new "Superman" movie images and posters, some of the new "Superman" movie merchandise and whether they're spoiling the film, the death of Peter David, your favorite "Supergirl" TV episodes, and much more.
In this episode, we dive deep into DC's newest YA graphic novel, Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story, written by none other than Nicole Maines, the actress who brought Dreamer to life on the Supergirl TV show! We chat about Dreamer's journey from the small screen to the colorful pages of her very own comic, and how Maines continues to impress us with her storytelling prowess. We also explore the exciting world of queer and trans representation in comics, from Dreamer's groundbreaking presence in the DC universe to her interactions with other beloved characters like Galaxy, the Prettiest Star. Plus, we share our thoughts on potential future crossovers and dream (pun intended) up some epic team-ups we'd love to see. For those looking to avoid spoilers, our plot summary section begins at 6:54 and ends at 10:58. So, whether you're a seasoned comic book reader or new to the world of superheroes, grab your cape and join us as we continue transcending boundaries and celebrating the vibrant world of trans, non-binary, and genderqueer representation in comics.

Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 65 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! This time around, we dip into the weird and varied collection that is Playboy’s Inside Out anthology series, starting - appropriately enough - with the first volume, and joining us in this venture is the great Bobby, from the Grindbin Podcast. We talk about the background of the series, and its links to music videos, and music video legends like Nigel Dick, David Fincher, and more! Even more amazingly (for some of the cast, at least) we talk about its links to EA’s SSX snowboarding series of video games - the greatest snowboarding games ever made! Each of the four volumes released by Playboy contain 9 shorts. For one thing, this means that only 37 shorts ever made to home video, out of the 74 produced for the series when it aired on the Playboy Channel. For another thing, this means there’s a heck of a lot of actors and directors involved in even one of these videos, so in the interests of brevity, we’ve cut the Softcore Spotlight this time around. However, you’ll still hear about the background of creators like incredible writer-director Lizzie Borden, Hellbound: Hellraiser II director Tony Randel, Supergirl TV series creator Ali Adler, and Alexander Payne, who went on to direct Election and Sideways (also weirdly he co-wrote Jurassic Park III with Jim Taylor, who also works with him here). It’s a pretty oddball bunch, but then, it’s a pretty oddball series! Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669! The Supergirl TV show may be on hiatus, but we've got plenty of Kara Danvers to discuss this week! It's a different interpretation of the Supergirl origin story, but could be a wonderful introduction to the character for younger readers. In this four-part arc, Kara is still learning to get a grip on her powers while maintaining her normal life with parents, friends, and high school track when a terrible earthquake threatens their small town. There's plenty of teenage angst, star-crossed romance, and some incredibly disgusting Kryptonian pimples. We'll discuss the parts we enjoyed, and the parts that didn't stick their superhero landing. Let us know what you thought, and which version of Kara might be your favorite!

We feature commentator/podcaster Jeff Gamet, Managing Editor for The Mac Observer. Gene and Jeff do a pop culture segment, anticipating the movie version of "Wonder Woman," the introduction of General Zod on the "Supergirl" TV show, and other movie and TV-related topics. The tech segment will cover expectations for Mac notebook upgrades at the 2017 WWDC in June, whether actor Jeff Goldblum might have become the voice of Siri, the Microsoft Surface Laptop, and whether you can trust the cloud. You'll also hear from ethical hacker Dr. Timothy Summers, President of Summers & Company, a cyber strategy and organizational design consulting firm. Tim will offer a comprehensive look at the recent WannaCry ransomware attack that targeted hundreds of thousands of institutions and businesses around the world using Windows XP. This attack targeted a Windows flaw that has been patched by Microsoft. You'll also learn more about the ongoing prospects of bitcoin, the controversial digital currency that is still regarded as a viable alternative payment method by some. The ransomware attack required bitcoin payments to free up compromised PCs.

Starling Tribune - Season 5 Special Edition – Arrow Season 5 Predictions (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast) #122 The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network Next Week: Arrow - Season 5 Episode 1 - “Legacy” NEW BEGINNINGS — After Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) death and the departures of both Diggle (David Ramsey) and Thea (Willa Holland) from Team Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell) takes to the streets solo to protect Star City's citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. We are most definitely not ignoring it.” * “We're positioning her to do something in the second half of the year that is really, really key, and that isn't about her relationship with Oliver or even necessarily her father or her mother. With Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. The site further clarifies that when the Legends of Tomorrow team first meet the character, he'll be played by Payne, while a future version of the character is played by Lance Henriksen (Millennium, Aliens). * Obsidian is a DC Comics superhero who first appeared in All-Star Squadron #25 (1983). Created by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway, Todd James Rice is the son of original Green Lantern, Alan Scott and Golden Age super-villain Thorn. With metahumans for parents, it was only natural for Todd to be born with powers of his own. Along with his twin sister, Jennie-Lynn Hayden, Todd goes on to found Infinity Inc., a superhero team consisting of the children, grandchildren and proteges of various JSA members. * Unlike his father, who wields light constructs, Todd's powers are based in darkness. He has the ability to merge with his own shadow and gain enhanced strength, flight and durability. He's also connected to a shadow realm that allows him to pass through solid objects. Fight/stunt 3 Battle in the oculus chamber. Lots of firing, heat gun, cold gun etc. Time travel: Thoughts on the tropes and mechanics Nice flashback to start, back to the recruiting scene in 2016 Great to see the team back before all the messing with the timeline Jax - “Something called time travel - the team's in trouble”. Very Bill and Ted showing up in his own past once he's left the room. (Marty! It's your kids!) This timetravel model, there is no free will - only free will at the vanishing point Nothing you can do to change time? Part 2: The Characters Rip Hunter Rate on a scale of 1 (Capt. of the Titanic - Edward John Smith) to 10 (the best - Picard) Freaking out with “NO ONE CONTROLS ME” which breaks him. “You lot guard the entrance”. I'm sorry, but is “you lot” the official way to address the crew. Well, it's either that or walk the plank Argggg! Shrinks Ray to carry him. Vandal Savage “An appointment I have… with Destiny” kinda sounds like an exotic dancer Execution of Rip's family - still murders Miranda and Jonas Time Masters The Reveal of the oculus and the reveal of the master manipulation of the entire crew Ordered Savage to kill Rip's family to motivate him. Super dick move. Guy doing the induction process kinda enjoys it. Love the time ships preparing to jump in the hangar, like the rebel fleet about to attack the death star or the Mass Effect Pelicans getting ready for a combat drop or the Space Marines about to assault the Alien Queen with Ripley The Atom - Ray Palmer Still cares for Kendra - freaked out when she was shot by the prison guards. Continues the theme of believing in the face of adversity Interesting bonding with Mick & how he survived not being turned into Chronos “All I wanted to do was make a difference.” Keeps working even though that's how he dies. White Canary - Sara Lance And she's a badass pilot. “Punch it Gideon” “Want to steal a kiss from me… you better be one hell of a thief”. Dammit, I really wanted these two to get together. - then the final kiss just kills me. Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Kinda loses it when she realizes Savage is going to kill Rip's family. That was the whole point of the mission… well, that and saving the earth from Savage's destruction and reign. They arguably failed at all of that and made it worse. No barista reference. Hawkman - Carter Hall In stasis - not in this episode Captain Cold - Leonard Snart I freakin' love Snart in the past Dammit - I want an entire show of just Sara and Snart “There are no strings on me” Frickin beautiful line. He was a hero. Heatwave - Mick Rory Soliloquy when faced with becoming Chronos again - “I focused on vengeance. I focused on how much I hated all of you” “Oh yeah, that's good… break my arms” - Mick has the best lines “For a time master, you sure waste a lot of it” Executes the a**-hole time master “Get me out of this stupid robot suit” “If you tell the team I actually care, I'll shave your head” - focused on the team Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Arrogant interaction with Jax in the past Nice speech to Jax about something having gone right on the mission re: Jefferson maturing and he being less of an asshat. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson “It's the best decision I never made.” re: being roofied and going on the mission. Waverider/Gideon Calls on the ye olde fashioned phone - uploaded into the latency core. Love the firing effects on the vanishing point EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS: Season 1 Episode 15 “Destiny” (Date: 12 May 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/05/13/legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-destiny/ Thanagar: Legends of Tomorrow made Thanagarians - DC's alien hawkman species and home to Nth Metal with strong ties to Hawkgirl and Hawkman, this just became cannon for the DC TV Universe. Lots of comic references and lore, and on the cartoon Justice League Unlimited Smugglers Hatch: Pretty obvious reference to Star Wars and the Millennium Falcon Time Sphere: When Jax heads back to 2016, we get a look at he and Martin working on the Time Sphere that was broken in the season finale of The Flash last year. In the comics, the Time Sphere (also sometimes called a Time Bubble) was the primary means of time-travel used by Rip Hunter, Time Master...as well as Booster Gold, The Legion of Super-Heroes, and other characters. “I'll shave your head”: The threat Mick uses against Ray -- that he'll "shave your head" -- is presumably a nod to the fact that all season long, he's referred to Ray as "haircut.". “No strings on me”: Iconic Pinocchio line, used by Ultron in the second avengers movie Tabula Rasa: While "Tabula rasa" has a broader cultural meaning outside of DC Comics, meaning "blank slate," as explained by Ray… it's worth noting that there are two major DC Comics uses of the phrase: one is a Batman story in which he is forced to work with Bane -- and the other is an organization in the Wildstorm universe whose actual name is Tabula Rasa. Leviathan CGI was interesting, not great, not crappy Compressed light blasts - aww yeah Bad-ass punch to the head Kendra v Savage Really liked the mace effect Kendra laid into Savage and Carter with a bad ass spiked mace - no blood Legends and Cassandra Savage v. Shock Troops Casandra with the throwing knife in the back … But why did they stand around when they had Savage at the start Time Travel: Share your thoughts He knows where his family is even though they were at Whitechapel - can't get his family to safety. OK, so no matter what he does Savage's forces keep killing his family - time wants his family to die, yet he's still trying to change it. Rip Hunter Running into the final battle at the rally with no real plan - yet another example of not great captaining A bit of a dick not wanting the refugees on board Gideon He basically gives up when the Waverider is damaged. Vandal Savage Great speech at the start Vandal Savage's Daughter - Cassandra Savage Decent training montage with a katana She didn't know that the Armageddon virus was unleashed by Savage, and that Savage created Per Degaton… and there came the inevitable reveal Joins the rebels at the end. The Atom - Ray Palmer “It worked, I'm not dead… yet” Giant Sized ATOM Looks crushed when Kendra says “we need to talk” White Canary - Sara Lance Aside from decent staff fighting, not a lot Kinda weird that she brought up the whole soulmate thing with Kendra, but she's her friend, so I guess it was in character Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Golden mace is pretty cannon - Nth metal Hawkman - Carter Hall Spike mace training scene, he wasn't actually a bit of a douche Captain Cold - Leonard Snart Solid throughout the episode, esp. In his interactions with Cassandra Backstory with his dad who was a monster is a lot of callback to the Flash Episode with Golden Glider as well. Heatwave - Mick Rory “It works with my outfit” It's great when Mic is actually into the role - his looks while interrogating the daughter was kinda awesome. Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Cared about the refugees, but didn't have a lot to do - was injured for the climactic fight. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson Ray's cheering section - not a lot of direct action since Stein was out of commission. Waverider/Gideon EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS: Season 1 Episode 13 “Leviathan” (Date: 29 Apr 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/04/29/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow---x-things-you-might-have-missed-in-levi/ Leviathan: There have been two Leviathans in DC Comics. The first Leviathan was Gim Allor, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The most recent Leviathan wasn't a person at all, but an offshoot of the League of Assassins. Talia al Ghul created Leviathan to oppose Batman Inc. Growing Atom: Savage's Leviathan is clearly a giant version of Ray's ATOM suit The Rebel Leader: Sharon Taylor, who played the unnamed Rebel Leader on tonight's episode, was in Smallville, she played Zod's lieutenant Faora Cassandra Savage: Cassandra Savage is actually based on a different DC character... Kassandra Sage is one of Vandal Savage's daughters in the New 52. After the police arrested Savage for a string of sacrificial murders, Kass grew up to become a profiler for the FBI, specializing in serial killers. After not speaking to Savage for years, Kass used her father to help solve a string of copycat murders committed by the son of the man who arrested Savage. Of course, most fans were hoping that Cassandra would wind up being Scandal Savage, a member of the Secret Six, a group of anti-hero mercenaries. Extra - thumping class of scotch looked like Jurassic Park. Extra - did anyone think of Capt. America Civil war when ATOM grew - like Ant-man growing into Giant-man ARROW NEWS: Wendy Mericle talks Prometheus, no magic, and Flashpoint (Date: 24 Aug 2016) * “for Season 5 … we did want to go back to our roots and figure out what is specific to this show. What is our universe? Go back to, 'What is Arrow?'" * Season 5 villain will be Prometheus, a prominent DC comics villain * "He's not going to have magic, no powers. He has a very personal grudge and axe to grind with Oliver and he's going to come at him in a really interesting, sociopathic kind of way." * "Flashpoint provides an interesting jumping off point for all the shows this year, in that we have this reset button available to us if we want it," Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/24/arrow-season-5-more-details-on-prometheus-and-flashpoint-effect/ Background on the comic book Prometheus * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus_(comics) * Three villains have used the name, but the “second” Prometheus is the main one. * No powers, but can download files on any hero and upload fighting styles * Sometimes set up as the Anti-Batman * Ties in to Green Arrow mythology through the very controversial Justice League: Cry for Justice, miniseries (2009) where [Spoiler alert] his actions result in (i) the death of Roy Harper's daughter, (ii) Roy losing an arm, and ultimately (iii) Ollie murdering Prometheus in cold blood in revenge. "We love working with Teddy. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. Amnesia pills are optional Palmer's injuries Rip Hunter His plan actually works! His real name is Michael; he was taken by Time Masters when he was an orphan on the streets trying to survive Offers self to Pilgrim. Without him, there is no team. Stein tries to remind all about how dangerous it is to remove a Time Master from the timeline, something Rip told him at the start of show Rate The Captain on a scale of 1 (Captain Crunch) to 10 (Captain Picard) Vandal Savage Not in episode! On Arrow, Anna was an attorney who worked for Oliver Queen's mother, but in the comics, Jean Loring was Ray Palmer's wife prior to her killing another superhero's wife) Disappearing from History: The visual effects used to represent the man executed by the Time Masters at the start of the episode are the same ones used in last year's finale for The Flash, when Eddie Thawne committed suicide in order to kill his descendant, Eobard/The Reverse Flash “Come with me if you want to live”: Line is from The Terminator. Booster Gold once made a similar remark during his time-travel adventures written by Legends executive producers Geoff Johns Marty McFly: Younger Rory is wearing a red vest/jean jacket outfit reminiscent of Marty McFly's Back to the Future outfit. Arrow bits: “If he ever lost me…” young Sara says of her father. Date of Ray's attack is December 19, 2014, and Arrow was on hiatus at that time Fruit Brute: Fruit Brute is one of the “monster” cereals like Count Chocula and Frankenberry. The fact that Rip has a collection of vintage cereals makes total sense because in the Booster Gold comics, we were told once that Rip has a fridge full of vintage Coca Cola Ma Hunkel: Ma Hunkel's Red Tornado is seen in Rip's time lab Rip Hunter's Mother: In the comics, we never learn the name of Rip's mother, so as to not lock his father, Booster Gold, into a future relationship Michael?: Rip Hunter's father in the comics is Michael Jon Carter, aka Booster Gold, so the name “Michael” might be a nod to his comic book parentage. ARROW NEWS: Where Team Arrow Stands when Season 5 Begins (Date: 16 Aug 2016) IGN: Executive producers Wendy Mericle & Marc Guggenheim preview what's ahead: *Season 5 deals with legacy, it deals with the past. Oliver: building team with Felicity, Curtis (who is going to become Mr. Terrific), and newcomers Evelyn Sharp and Wild Dog while trying to be mayor. Tries to optimistic, but forces will try to pull him into the darkness. EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS: Season 1 Episode 11 “The Magnificent Eight” (Date: 15 Apr 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/04/14/legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-may-have-missed-in-the-magnificen/ Magnificent 7 reference: We talked about the movies and source material earlier Salvation, Texas: Salvation, Texas, was the name of a town featured in a 2006 Jonah Hex story. In that tale, the town wasn't run by criminals, but by a particularly controlling sect of nuns. Kuberts Barbershop sign: One of the storefronts in Salvation features a pretty familiar name to DC Comics fans: Kubert. In this instance, it's likely a nod to Joe Kubert, whose work on Jonah Hex comics helped to craft the look of the character's early years. Kubert, of course, also worked on a lot of classic Hawkman stories, meaning that his influence has been felt quite a bit on Legends. Jonah Hex: While Hex's origin is that of a post-Civil War bounty hunter, he's had some time-travel adventures himself. In the DC Comics Universe, when he found himself flung to the far future after the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. G. Wells: The child Stein saves in the episode is actually a young H.G. Wells, whose The Time Machine is widely regarded as one of the earliest and best novels on the topic of time-travel. ---- But we all know Warehouse 13 told the TRUE story of H.G. Well. (Shannon, that's for you!) John Wayne reference: Ray comes up with another great alias... Turnbull: Turnbull, the man who's responsible for the sacking of Calvert, Oklahoma, is a Jonah Hex villain from the comics. He was also the villain in the Jonah Hex movie played by John Malkovich. Hannibal Hawkes: Hannibal Hawkes isn't just the Old West hero Nighthawk, but in modern stories it was revealed that he was, indeed, one of the many lives of Prince Khufu/Hawkman. Klemmer & Sons sign: One of Salvation's storefronts is that of "Klemmer and Sons," apparently the business owned by Phil Klemmer's family. Klemmer is a writer and producer on Legends of Tomorrow. Geddes Drugstore sign: One of the signs in town is for an apothecary named D. Geddes, a nod to David Geddes, who directed last week's episode titled "Progeny. Per Degaton: Per Degaton is a longtime DC Comics supervillain, who has battled against the Justice Society, Infinity Inc. and the Time Masters in the comics. His most notable appearances were as a member of an organization called the Time Stealers, who opposed Booster Gold and Rip Hunter and tried to take over Vanishing Point. Armageddon Virus: No Armageddon virus" in DC lore but there's Moritcoccus, a mutated offshoot of the OMAC virus sent back from the future. It's the deadliest virus known to human history. There's also Armageddon 2001, a crossover event from the '90s... “Would you kill Hitler” trope: You get the old "would you kill Hitler?" trope a lot in this episode...almost literally, since Per Degaton is a Nazi in the comics. Coast City reference: Hawkman makes a Coast City reference in Flashback. Coast City, of course, is the home to Green Lantern in the comics. It's been frequently referenced in all of the CW/DC shows. Star Labs: Wells's company eventually recovers from the damage to its reputation and bottom line done by the particle accelerator explosion. White Dwarf Star Reference: White Dwarf Star material is what Ray Palmer uses in the comics (and on TV) to power his size-changing belt.. Hannibal Lecter reference: When asked to give a name, Ray identifies himself as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.. Young Aldus Boardman: In Kendra's flashback timeline, we get to see the young Aldus Boardman, the son of Hawkgirl and Hawkman, who lived his childhood on the run from Vandal Savage until Savage found and killed Boardman's parents. We get back to our roots this week with some actual comic talk. Travis talks about selling his individual issues of Preacher, Devin talks about what he has read, and Steeph is sad that all the new Marvel titles aren't flying off the shelves. We also talk about Walking Dead news, the Supergirl TV show, and the Preacher trailer. Promos this week come from Danger Entertainment, Hot Butter Podcast, and Musings of a Shibe.
This week we're creeping back to 1983, the year Top 40 radio was totally conquered by goofy new wave. We were blinded with science, rocked down to Electric Avenue, safety danced if we wanted to, and watched 99 red balloons go by. In fact, Kevin's pick for our 1983 discussion is Nena, the young German lady who taught us about those red balloons (or luftballons, if you prefer). Meanwhile, Kornflake reminds us that 1983 was also the year of the Chicken McNugget! (Mayor McCheese knew his days were numbered when those little creeps blew into town.) We also look ahead to the Super Megafest convention (November 21-22), where you can meet MacGyver, Big Bird, a Bad News Bear, a Monkee, and all three Dukes of Hazzard cousins! (We're not counting Coy and Vance. Sorry, guys.) And we sneak in a quick review of the new Supergirl TV series, and learn that Kevin would not make a good Supergirl. Alas, another dream has died...

In our sixth Tannhauser Gate film and TV podcast we ramble, pontificate and generally get sidetracked about the fact that Will and Jonny are basically unemployed, argue about whether the Cap Amercia films are the best MCU installments, decide that Crossbone's movie armour looks 'Halo' cool, that Martin Freeman would make the perfect Marvel Movie Civil Servant, and that the new Supergirl TV series trailer looks like Ugly Betty smushed together with Smallville (and so, so rubbish too) before eventually we review two American film remakes that did NOT need to be made. Remake Radical.
This week, the whole Nerd Overload crew discuss the return of Lando Calrissian, the upcoming Supergirl TV series on CBS, the pitfalls of Kickstarter, and discover that one of our hosts can't differentiate between Owen Wilson and Matthew McConaughey.
