Continuing our Pride Month coverage on the show, I'm joined today by Sam Maggs. Sam is a New York Times Bestselling Author who doesn't call just the comics space home. She's written in various mediums including books, video games, and comics spaces and is currently turning her attention to launching The Wicked Trinity, a dark fantasy One Shot from Archie Comics with line art from Lisa Sterle, colors by Ellie Wright, and letters by Jack Morelli. We get a little into the recent Eisner nomination announcement for her short story Friendship is Forever in the My Little Pony 40th Celebration and carve out some time to talk about representation for woman and queer spaces in our entertainment mediums. From the publisher Sabrina's magical nemesis Amber Nightstone and her sidekicks, Jade Kazane and Sapphire Gill, are intent on becoming the most powerful witches in the world. Isolated from so many around them, the three have formed a coven based on their individual needs for vengeance and true freedom. But when there is some dissent among the ranks, their small coven is threatened to be obliterated from within Link to the refereneced CBR article "Comics Are Still Failing Their Female Characters and Creators" Our episode sponsors: Transphoria Kickstarter Make sure to check out the Kickstarter campaign for Transphoria, a new new 90 page graphic novel that collects 19 new short storeis about trans and non-binary experiences of gender euphoria. I'm joined by a new guest today. Megan Hutchison is a Mistress of the Dark Comic Arts, if today's book is any indication, with an amazing new project coming out soon Archie Comics: Judgement Day written by Aubrey Sitterson with colors by Matt Herms and letters from Jack Morelli. This is the flagship of the Archie Premium Event, a new mini-series formatting designed to take readers beyond the one-shot with cardstock covers, improved interior paper stock, basically it's longer and prettier and it's kind of a big deal as it is there first mini-series in five years. Lots of process and design chat in this one, we dive into the visual inspirations of the demons in the book and the imprint of Aleister Crowley and Jack Parsons while carving out time to speak on the power of music and bats. This book surprised me honestly with how good it is. I'm a fairly new returning reader to Archie Comics Universe and this has me excited about seeing what's in store down the road. I came in thinking, yeah, how far are they really gonna take this demon hunter thing. Turns out, pretty much all in. It's a lavish visual read that turns the Riverdale world on its head and asks questions of Archie as a character that have never been explored before which is exciting and it's a novel approach in the horror genre to provide this much tapestry. Very visceral and in your face. It's out in stores as of this week so make sure to snag it before they are gone. From the publisher: Written by Aubrey Sitterson (Archie vs. The World, No One Left to Fight) with art by Megan Hutchison (Rockstars), JUDGMENT DAY sets Archie Andrews on a daring quest to cleanse an alternate version of Riverdale overrun by demons. After claiming some destructive powers of his own, Archie is forced to destroy corrupted versions of the people closest to him, ostensibly in the name of the greater good. As questions about his own morality and the sacrifices he's made start to pile up, Archie must confront the question: are his efforts truly good, or the work of pure evil? JUDGMENT DAY places Archie Andrews squarely at the center, acting as our hero—but with the power to choose who lives and who dies, can he truly remain a hero through and through?” said Archie Comics' Jesse Goldwater. “This miniseries raises the stakes more than any title we've ever done before. The fate of the entire world is in Archie's hands. Our episode sponsor Play TTRPG games? Make sure to check out our partner Arkenforge. Tune in as my friend Daxh Alanis hops into the guest seat for a breakdown of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is not only the 31st movie in the MCU, but is also the movie that's kicking off Phase 5 of the superhero franchise. The parallels that this flick shares with pop culture media like Star Wars and Rick and Morty, whether the MCU is being written like a TV show, the Jonathan Majors situation, and using the Kardashev scale to classify a highly intelligent ant colony make up just a few of this episode's talking points. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Bill Murray, William Jackson Harper, David Dastmalchian, Jamie Andrew Cutler, and Katy M. For DIY Corner we talk about a bee related crime book by Christopher Sebela and Claire Roe coming soon to Kickstarter. Other books discussed on this episode: Human Remains #1 & 2 by Peter Milligan, Sally Cantrino, Dearbhla Kelly, and AndWorld Design (Vault) and Destroyer by Victor LaValle and Dietrich Smith (Boom on Graphite). It may be unbelievably hot outside, but it’s downright chilly in the GI studio this week! We’re discussing the first three issues of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Robert Hack, and Jack Morelli’s CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. It’s the basis of a new Netflix drama of the same name, and it’s a noir re-imagining of the super cheerful "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" we all remember. This version of Sabrina still struggles with being half-witch and half-mortal and lives with two witchy aunts, but her villains are much more murdery-y this time. The Girls are split on how they felt about the comic, so we had a great time discussing what we enjoyed (and what we absolutely hated) about these three issues! Grab your broomsticks and your athames, and meet us in the clearing at midnight to discuss THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA!

Inspired by the sci-fi aesthetic of War of the Worlds and the anthropomorphic characters of Blacksad and Mouse Guard, readers will be blown away by Culbard's art while fans of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's Cornetto Trilogy (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, WORLD'S END) will fall in love with Clive, Peter, and Gilbert as they try to survive an alien invasion. When a rural English community of the 1930s is the victim of an alien invasion, the residents' lives are upended by the harsh realities of life-and-death violence. Led by the town's outsider and retired war veteran, they will have to rally together to uncover the secret of their invaders and ultimately fight back.
