Episode 54 - Murdock and Marvel: 2001 Part 2 The year 2001 has a dark shadow over it, and there are elements of this year that are pretty rough, because as the year closed comic books were trying to make sense of and deal with 9/11 just like the rest of America. But the start of the year brought a lot of great entertainment and for the first time in years sales held steady (mostly) This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2001. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #14-26, Daredevil / Spider-Man #1-4, Daredevil: Yellow #1-5, Daredevil: Ninja #2-3, Marvel Knights #7-9 and #11-15, Black Widow #2-3, Spider-Man and Mysterio #1-3, X-Men #109, Big Town #4, Deadpool #52, Black Panther #31, Elektra #1, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #7-8, 100 Greatest Marvels of All Time #1 and 4, Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil #2 and Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor #3. Writing: David Mack (#14-15), Brian Michael Bendis (#16-19 and #26) Bob Gale (#20-25) Pencils: Joe Quesada and David Ross (#14), Ross (#15 and #23-25), David Mack (#16-19), Phil Winslade (#20-22), Alex Maleev (#26) Inks: Mark Morales (#14-15) David Mack and Morales (#15) Mack and Pond Scum (#17) Mack (#18-19), James Hodgkins (#20-22), Hodgkins and Mark Pennington (#23), Pennington (#24-25), Alex Maleev (#26) After the wrap-up of the Parts of a hole storyline that included a trail of Kingpin before he's eventually blinded by Maya Lopez aka Echo, we get our first story from Brian Michael Bendis with David Mack moving over to art. The 4-book story, Titled Wake Up, is a fantastically told and beautifully brought to page by the creative team. It doesn't really have any action and is really only loosely about Daredevil. Interesting, right? This is, without a doubt, worth spotlighting this week – so we'll talk more about it then. The other main story we get this year is called Playing to the Camera in which Daredevil is sued by rich philanthropist Samuel Griggs and wants to retain Nelson and Murdock (specifically Matt Murdock) as his lawyer. Matt reluctantly agrees as he knows he wasn't involved with destroying the man's greenhouse and plants and wants to figure out who's behind it. As Daredevil, he hires a lawyer and they have their days in court surrounded by a media circus. The trial ends with 3 daredevils in the courtroom - Murdock as himself holding a video tape of himself as Daredevil earlier that morning, Peter Parker in a Daredevil costume with the defense attorney and a third Daredevil who crashes a window, admits to the property damage, offers the $50k needed to fix it and then reveals his true identity as Terrance Hillman. Confused? So is Murdock and Nelson. Apparently, Hillman decided on his own to dress up as Daredevil and crash the courtroom. He then used the reveal and announced retirement to swing fame and fortune (and help out the real Daredevil). We also learn that Hillman didn't destroy the property either and that the Ringmaster was behind everything. He was testing his ability to implant false memories in people. One interesting side note about the first issue of the Playing with Camera storyline. A second story appears in the issue “My Brother's Keeper” written by Stan Lee and Kevin Hall with art by Gene Colan. In the short story, we see Daredevil and Spider-Man during a night out. We did get one more book in December from Brian Michael Bendis but we'll save that for next year's discussion. Finally In Daredevil: Yellow we get a 6-book story in which Matt is writing letters to the late Karen Page about the early days of Daredevil and the Nelson and Murdock law firm as a way to find forgiveness for everything that happened between them. The story, by Jeph Loeb, artist Tim Sale and colors by Matt Hollingsworth, is another retailing of the first handful of issues from Daredevil volume 1 that ends with the Purple Man story and Matt finding the forgiveness he needs. A mere 16 years after the Kingpin learns Daredevil's secret identity in Frank Miller's Born Again, that secret becomes front page news in 2002's Out, by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, published by Marvel Comics! Returning to his indie crime-comic roots, Bendis puts attorney Matt Murdock through the wringer in this compelling story grounded in street-level atmosphere by artist Maleev and colorist Matt Hollingsworth. Is gaslighting your friends and loved ones okay if it means you can put on a costume and fight crime? Just how much are we supposed to root for a hero who doubles down on lying to the entire world? A digital health passport is an app, or online certification, that displays a traveller's health or vaccination record. It can save lives, on both private and public levels. In today's pharmaphorum podcast, web editor Nicole Raleigh speaks with Matt Hollingsworth, co-founder and CEO of Carta Healthcare, a company seeking to support the healthcare data registry market by transforming a previously manual clinical data abstraction process. Hollingsworth discusses his own, very personal experiences that led to Carta Healthcare's foundation and progressed its work, as well as the comfort that can be provided patients with chronic diseases – including congenital heart defects – with digital health passports, offering an information safety net for them whilst travelling, circumventing the need to carry veritable folders full of printed health records. Diving into the what's what of EHRs, AI's role in digital health passports, and the pros and cons of a generally digital future, technology is nevertheless very much in our health futures, explains Hollingsworth.

On episode 486 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Matt Hollingsworth, the co-founder of Carta Healthcare, a company dedicated to creating a healthier future by advancing the technology surrounding data practices in healthcare. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Matt discuss the rising importance of artificial intelligence in the healthcare space and how the strategic use of AI can benefit doctors, nurses, and patients in a variety of ways, including data abstraction for improving quality of care and patient outcomes. Matt also shares strategies for how nurses can position themselves for career growth and marketability when it comes to the intersection of AI, medicine, and nursing. Matt's passion for improving patient care developed while helping his mother, a five-time cancer survivor, navigate the U.S. healthcare system and communicate her conditions to providers. In 2017, Matt founded Carta Healthcare, which is a leader in delivering improved data gathering solutions to healthcare systems related to a patient's diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Carta Healthcare's solutions have revolutionized the processes surrounding registry databases, resulting in markedly faster data collection, superior quality of data, and considerable cost savings for healthcare providers. Matt holds an MBA from Stanford University, where he also worked in the Systems Utilization Research for Stanford Medicine (SURF Stanford Medicine) lab, researching methods for using information technology to reduce equipment waste and improve patient care. It was through his work at Stanford that he and colleagues founded Carta Healthcare. Before receiving his MBA and founding Carta Healthcare, he was a researcher at CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) and a member of the team that discovered the Higgs boson, an important discovery in particle physics. Matt received bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. For this week's TFTSB, we got to do one of Cacey's all time favorites: LITTLE BIRD by Darcy Van Poelgeest, Ian Bertram, & Matt Hollingsworth! This headtrip of a miniseries is all about one family and their never-ending pursuit of freedom from oppression. In the distant future, a fascist theocratic regime has taken over the United States, and they are making their way through the great white north, and only The Axe and his granddaughter Little Bird stand in their way. It's beautiful in the most grotesque and violent way imaginable, and it's one heck of a wild ride! Support Tales From The Short Box by joining our Patreon! patreon.com/BraveNewWorldsComics
In The TRU Leader Podcast, Matt Hollingsworth, co-founder of Carta Healthcare, shares his journey and insights into leveraging AI to revolutionize healthcare processes, inspired by his mother's cancer battle. With an MBA from Stanford, Hollingsworth aims to improve healthcare data practices and patient care efficiency, drawing from personal experiences, including enhancing outcomes for congenital heart patients. The discussion also covers the significance of registries and the challenges in documentation processes. It proposes AI as a solution to streamline data collection, emphasizing the need for a balance between AI and human intelligence due to the complexity of medical systems and the variations in documentation practices. Clinical registries can provide profound insights into disease patterns and treatment effectiveness, and ultimately improve patient outcomes. New technology, including AI enables faster and better data collection and analysis. Today's guest, Matt Hollingsworth is co-founder of Carta Healthcare, which fuses technology, data, and human expertise in a quest to radically improve outcomes. Matt shares how his mother's battle with cancer ignited his quest to marry tech prowess with a heartfelt mission to improve patient outcomes. I like it when he says he didn't actually plan to start a company.!Host David E. Williams is president of healthcare strategy consulting firm Health Business Group. Produced by Dafna Williams.
Matt Hollingsworth (Co-Founder, Carta Healthcare) discusses how his company is dedicated to harnessing the combined strength of people, technology, and data to improve healthcare outcomes
Matt Hollingsworth, Co-Founder of Carta Healthcare, has identified the need to change how hospitals complete clinical registries, which require information from clinical notes. Currently, nurses manually fill out the forms primarily based on their understanding of the notes from the doctors. Using AI to read through notes, extract relevant information, and enter the data into the clinical registry form saves nurses 95% of their time, improves accuracy, and highlights actionable data. This approach allows the abstractors to spend more time on complex cases and uncover overlooked medical conditions. Matt explains, "What we do is collect data for these things called clinical registries, which are required quality submissions that hospitals have to do. And we bring AI to the table so that we can make it a not-so-manual process. Historically, the way these forms have been completed has been with just nurse time. Also, I don't think there's a word in the English language to quite correctly describe form in this particular scenario. Just to give a concrete example, if a PCI, so a stent installation via cath is performed, it takes a nurse about an hour and a half to fill out the documentation required to do the submission to the registry. It takes a really long time." "The problem is that most of it is in the notes. So one of the questions in a registry was the patient hypertensive upon admission. And the way you figure that out is you look, in most cases, in the H&P note and read through it. It'll say somewhere in there that there's either a history of hypertension or they took a blood pressure, and now they have it, etc. And so, the nurse, to paint a picture about what this looks like here, what the nurse is doing is they have the EHR open on one screen, a form to fill out on the other, and they're reading through notes, reaching conclusions, and then filling out the form. So, most of the data needed for this whole process is in the clinical notes, not in some structured form." "Yes, so this is how we define quality in the whole shift to value-based care. A necessary component is that you measure quality in it. And this is just how the sausage is made for doing that. The way you measure something is you collect data for it. These registries are there to collect data, and in many cases, they are procedure-based. Sometimes, it's condition-based, like there's a COVID registry or what have you. Sometimes, it's a location-based thing like this patient was admitted to this unit like a CVICU or an acute care floor." #CartaHealth #GenAI #HealthSystems #2024MedicalPredictions #HealthTech #MedTech Carta.Healthcare Download the transcript here

As 2023 comes to an end, we decided to read and discuss a comic that's also about an ending, of sorts. Namor the Sub-Mariner: Conquered Shores by Christopher Cantwell, Pasqual Ferry, Matt Hollingsworth, and Joe Caramagna is a "The End"-type of story for Namor, one of Albert's most beloved superhero characters. Conquered Shores takes place in a far future after the Earth has endured massive trauma, which results in Atlantis becoming the dominant superpower as the planet is engulfed by the seas and melted ice caps. The superhero population has diminished, and Namor is one of the last remaining few with any agency. What choices will he make in this new world? Join us for our discussion of this five-issue miniseries! If you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or corrections, we're here. Feel free to hit us up on our socials, or email us! On this episode, we talk with Matt Hollingsworth, CEO of Carta Healthcare, about ChatGPT. If you've been reading the headlines, and maybe even experimenting with Chat GPT yourself, but don't quite grasp what's going on, then this episode is for you. Mat gives a not-too-technical, high-level explanation of what's going on under the hood so that you have proper context for the discussion. Then, Matt outlines the potential benefits, and potential harms, of applying ChatGPT in healthcare. Finally, Matt shares his experience launching Carta Healthcare, including how he convinced VCs that software plus services could scale better than a pure SaaS offering in this space. This is a good one. I'm honestly not sure in which part of this conversation I learned more.
Zach is joined by fellow Zach, "IMDZ" Zach Bolton to discuss the wickedly fun horror comic from Image comics: WYTCHES!The Rook family moves to a new town looking to escape their past and start anew as a loving family without the baggage. But soon they come to find that the past is never far away, and our mistakes have consequences. Oh...and also there are ancient creatures lurking in the woods of this new town, and the daughter, Sailor, has been pledged for sacrifice. No big deal.Written by: Scott SnyderArt by: Jock---------------------------------------------------Check out Dreampass and all their killer tracks on Spotify!---------------------------------------------------Join the Patreon to help us keep the lights on, and internet connected! https://www.patreon.com/tctwl---------------------------------------------------Listen to my other podcasts!Comics and BeerandTFD: Nerdcast---------------------------------------------------Want to try out all the sweet gigs over on Fiverr.com? Meet Matt Hollingsworth:Matt Hollingsworth is CEO and founder of Carta Healthcare. The son of a five-time cancer survivor, Matt has developed a passion for improving patient care. Matt holds an MBA from Stanford University, where he worked in the Systems Utilization Research for Stanford Medicine lab, researching methods for using information technology to reduce equipment waste and improve patient care. Previous to his time at Stanford, he spent time as a researcher at CERN as a member of the team that discovered the Higgs Boson particle. Matt received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Key Insights:Matt Hollingsworth is improving the work experience for doctors, nurses, and administrators.● AI Utility. Carta Healthcare has discovered ways to use new AI technologies to solve problems that, historically, people had to solve with elbow grease. ● Data Management. Getting trustworthy, usable data is difficult because it has required an army of nurses to fill out the forms. Carta's software significantly streamlines this process.● Remember to Sell. Matt offers important advice for engineers considering a startup: don't get buried in writing software if it causes you to forget to sell the product. Find people who can pay you for a product that meets their need. This episode is hosted by Gary Bisbee, Ph.D. He is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Think Medium.Relevant Links:o Learn more about Carta Healthcareo Read more about Matt Hollingsworth

It's Hawkeye time! Again! Specifically the second half of 2012's classic by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, and Chris Eliopoulos (with Annie Wu and Francesco Francavilla rounding out the regular artists.) Jaina and Elias are digging into the tumultuous last 12 issues (that's #12-22 and an annual, for those keeping score at home,) the contemporaneous history of the issues, and fighting to figure out what order to talk about the dang issues in. Seriously! It's nearly as complicated as some of the "War of Kings" stuff.Next book club, we're reading the blessedly short "Taskmaster: Unthinkable" from 2010. It's four issues and collected in a single trade. Easy! Find it through your local library or back-issue bin. Next episode however, things take a turn for the fantastic. Excelsior!
Matt Hollingsworth, the CEO of Carta Healthcare, has had a sense of the way healthcare can Impact a family's financial health since . . . well, perhaps since he was in the womb and his mother was diagnosed with cancer. She refused chemotherapy to protect him. Matt's life has been deeply influenced by his family's battles with cancer. It's common knowledge that one of every two Americans has medical debt and that medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy. But beyond that, Matt explains to Cal what our $4 trillion annual spend on healthcare is doing to your paycheck. A fresh look at a topic that is hard to get a grip on.

It's Hawkeye time! Specifically 2012's classic by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, and Chris Eliopolous (with Annie Wu and Francesco Francivilla rounding out the regular artists.) Jaina and Elias revisit the first eleven issues of this seminal classic about a sad sack avenger, a different sad sack YOUNG avenger, and an apartment building in Bed-Stuy. Does it hold up? Yes. Duh. Is it still a perfect masterpiece? Welllllllll.....Next episode, things get coastal as we check in on the back half of "Hawkeye" with #12-22 and the annual! That's volumes 3 & 4 of the trades and there is no set order because existence is pain and trust us we get into it. Comics!
This is part two of "Hawkeye" by Matt Fraction, David Aja, and Annie Wu, which is included in the trade paperbacks "Hawkeye: LA Woman" and "Hawkeye: Rio Bravo," or else the second half of "Hawkeye: The Saga of Barton and Bishop." It's also by Matt Hollingsworth, Javier Pulido, Francesco Francavilla, and Chris Eliopoulis. We finally get a chance to go deeper into the story of the two Hawkeyes, as Kate moves to LA to hang out with Columbo and Clint goes from futzing around to finding out. We'll also talk about strategies for writing tricky content and the complications of writing legacy characters. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on volume two of "Golden Age" by Roxanne Moreil and Cydril Pedrosa.
This week we talk about Hawkeye (Vol 4, Issues 1-22) by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, Chris Eliopoulos, Steve Lieber, Jesse Hamm, Annie Wu and Javier Pulido.
