Noone expects to spend a night in the desert unprepared, but that's where Erin, Emily and Kathryn found themselves after 3 1/2 days of exhausting floating on the Escalante River. After escaping near tragedy there, they found themselves hopelessly lost in Egypt, a canyon in the Escalante desert.
In 2005, the Escalante River in Southern Utah was surging at record levels. Erin had heard this was going to be an epic year to float it and invited her friends, Emily and Kathryn. What they didn't know however, is that a raging river brings terrifying surprises around every corner and a near-death experience for two of the women. Rising 11,753 ft, Mt Timpanogos is no sissy summit. During the summer, she can be brutal to climb at over 16 miles and 5,000 ft elevation gain, but in the winter, it's a whole other story.
