Send us a textEpisode 227Speaker  Christy Wimber Topic Making Disciples Part 1 Recorded in 2018Christy Wimber planted Yorba Linda Vineyard in southern California in 2006.  But despite growing a flourishing congregation, she announced early in 2017 that she was closing the church. She recalls thinking, “I don't understand this. This is not what I want to do, but I do feel like this is the Lord.” Since receiving the message from God that “your assignment here is done”, Wimber has shifted focus to now training church planters. She aims to create a group of leaders who can plant and lead new churches.  Her track record of following the Lord's call to unchartered territories has led to an equity of trust and respect among her fellow leaders. Christy's call to include the privilege of discipleship is the full gospel and very refreshing. Just imagine being in that inner place where you experience the promise of Philippians 4: 6 and 7.  Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God's peace, transcending anything we can understand with reason and logic. Then the peace of God will be released in you, guarding your heart and mind, when you believe what Jesus believed.  Next 4 weeksWe will break down Christy 2 talks into four parts. The first two episodes 227 and 228  on the freedom  God is calling the Church into.the final two 229 and 230 on how we respond to this call to freedom

Question: Can Christians "bind" spirits to take over a city for God?

Question: What about the growing "spiritual warfare" teaching that by "binding" in the name of the Lord the "territorial spirit" controlling a city Christians can take over that city for God?Response: Such an idea has no biblical basis, either by precept or example. Yes, "the prince of the kingdom of Persia” prevented the angel Gabriel for three weeks from coming to Daniel (Dn 10:12-13). Daniel, however, was seeking prophetic insight—not to "bind" the "territorial spirit" over Persia. Nor did Gabriel instruct him to wage such warfare. Gabriel's mission was to inform Daniel of last-days events affecting Israel (v 14)—information which the "prince of Persia" tried to hinder. There is no hint that "binding" this demon would have delivered Persia from Satanic influence or that Gabriel's victory over this demon (with the help of Michael the Archangel) had any effect upon the spiritual climate in Persia or aided in the salvation of Persians.Paul never tried to "bind territorial spirits" in bringing the gospel to the world of his day, so why should we? And although the apostles "turned the world upside down," there is no hint that a single city was ever "taken for God," as Wimber, Paulk, Hayford, Frangipane, Lea, and so many others are promising. In Corinth, for example, where Paul spent 18 months, God gave him special protection and blessing because He had "much people in this city" (Acts 18:9-10). The issue was not to deliver Corinth, but to call a company of believers out of it. Nor did Paul's success change the destiny of Corinth—or of any other city or nation.

Playing in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (aka March Madness) will always be a lifelong highlight, even if they lost to Stanford in the first round. Playing hoops at UTSA paved the way for Kurt to participate in and lead Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and God used those years to redirect his heart toward vocational ministry. In 2007 Kurt and his wife Lauren moved from San Antonio to join the staff at The Vineyard Church Pearland. In 2012, he completed a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Houston Clear Lake, and spent 10 years being trained and practicing as a clinician. In this episode of The Ferment, Adam chats with Liz Hix about growing up in the Vineyard, the moment when she first felt the Holy Spirit, and her process of becoming a worship leader. Liz shares about her Pacific Northwest songwriter's melancholy, her dreams for future songs, and some tips for those who want to try songwriting.  Born in Yakima, Washington to Vineyard pastors John and Judith Hix, Liz grew up half in Washington State, and half in Kansas City. Coming from a family of worship leaders, musicians, and teachers, she discovered a deep love for songwriting when she learned guitar to lead worship in her youth group. After graduating college in 2016 with a degree in theater/speech secondary education, she worked as a high school teacher in inner city LA, and a summer Shakespeare director for teens. Two years later, Liz eventually made her way to the Portland/Vancouver area, where she's now the youth pastor of Vancouver Vineyard, a commercial real estate gal in Portland by day, and a local singer-songwriter by night. Liz is a worship leader, Shakespeare aficionado, whiskey appreciator, and a self-described “moody musician with a propensity for silliness.” She's deeply passionate about writing songs that capture both the sorrow and joys of the human experience. One of her greatest joys is seeing her songs resonate with friends and audience members alike. Liz hopes to record her first EP sometime this year.

Ed shares about the beautiful invitation the Lord offers to seek after what He is doing and join Him in the journey, and the way we are transformed by experiences of mercy and the Father's love. Finally, Ed leaves us with a wise word for worship communities.    Ed Piorek, known as Eddie to his friends, is a Pastor Emeritus, Speaker and Author who helps people connect with the Father's Love.  With 50+ years in ministry, Eddie has a deep connection to the Father's Love and the enormous impact it can have in people's lives, including his own. He and his wife Janet (who has been his partner in ministry for the past half century) embody and live out the message of the Father's Love in their lives. In the mid-80's, Eddie had a dramatic encounter with God as Father. After years of intense labor in planting the congregation which would become the Mission Viejo Vineyard, and speaking at the Signs and Wonders conferences with John Wimber , Eddie became increasingly aware of a deep-seated fear of failing to perform up to public expectation.  In the midst of a palpable experience of that fear, God revealed himself to Eddie as a loving Father. That experience forever changed him, his life message, and ministry.   In recent years, Eddie has discovered the treasures of monastic contemplation, which has shown him how to find rest in the Father's love amidst the ongoing rigors of kingdom ministry. His new book The Eclectic Contemplative (2020) shares his adventures on this ancient path.  When he isn't preaching, speaking or writing, Eddie can be found surfing, gardening, reading, or spending time with his wife Janet in sunny San Clemente, California.      Show Notes:  Classic Vineyard by Ed Piorek   https://amzn.to/3twcALV   The Father Loves You by Ed Piorek https://amzn.to/3HhkJtf   The Eclectic Contemplative by Ed Piorek https://amzn.to/3MJJGPo     Socials:  Instagram @thefermentpodcast Twitter @fermentcast TikTok @vineyardworship
