A Podcast Network dedicated to bringing you the otherworldly tales from Pueblo, Colorado. Three different podcasts.
After a brief holiday break the boys are back to find out who is the champion of 1989? We start out the new year with another heavyweight comedy matchup! John Candy shows off his talents in the Hughes Classic Uncle Buck. And it takes on one off the best holiday movies of all-time, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!
Like, where do even begin to compare these two? Both films are enshrined in their own respective Cooperstown. With both films featuring legends of the screen and stage (past, present, and future). Both have iconic recognition. And which one one is more quotable? Log in to favorite streaming service, and find out which way The Watch Men leaned!
We open the season with not only a fantastic matchup, but a fantastic guest as well! Our good friend Vicente (and possibly future councilperson of Pueblo) lends us his ears and prowess in the first episode of 1989! Back to the Future 2 vs. Ghostbusters 2 There are v=clear ct favorites amongst our hosts, but minds they are a changing!
We go behind the scenes and show full transparency in how we pair off our top films from 1989. You don't always want to see how the sausage is made, but this is the height of ranking punditry, and we spare no laughs in the process.
Yes, all the members of The Watch Men Pod are children of the 80s, so our biases could lean to what we know, but if you think 1989 doesn't bring the cinematic heat, then just look over a couple of these titles and you tell us which one is best.. The Little Mermaid, Major League, Back to the Future II, Ghostbusters 2, Harlem Nights, Glory, The Abyss, Field of Dreams, Steel Magnolias, Gleaming the Cube, Heathers, All Dogs go to Heaven, Dead Poets Society, Do The Right Thing, Driving Miss Daisy, Pet Cemetery, Road House, Say Anything, Uncle Buck, UHF, The Wizard, plus too many more to mention! It has been one hell of a season. Through hours of conscientious debate we've come to a compromised agreement on these six films: Snatch Castaway O Brother Where Art Thou American Psycho Unbreakable How The Grinch Stole Christmas A more than fair representation of the year, and will be judged with all new scrutiny to find the undeniable champion of the Year 2000!
We're almost there. Only two episodes left in this never ending season of the year 2000. It's been a great journey with some twists and turns, but we're now going to narrow it down to the top 6.
While we were shocked to see some of these lose to begin with, they now have the opportunity to defend themselves in a Royal Rumble type of format. The top two of these films moves onto the Semifinals: Meet The Parents Remember The Titans High Fidelity Unbreakable Me, Myself, and Irene Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon The Perfect Storm Memento Shadow of The Vampire Sexy Beast Which do you think should move on?
For the second time The Watch Men Podcast is having a battle of the better Jim Carrey film. Is it the immortal classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Or the underdog Farrely Brothers funny film, Me Myself and Irene? We bring in special guests Mary Pacheco and Kimberly Sewell to help even out the score! Links in Comments!
It's that time of year where we gather the family around the television and argue about senseless topics like: "How did Dances with Wolves beat Goodfellas for Best Picture?" and "Leo still deserved a nomination for Romeo and Juliet". Yes, it's Oscar Season and we came through with a Special Episode with our Unqualified Opinions! Links in Comments!
It's been too long.. No more Zoom, or Skype, as The Watch Men Podcast becomes fully vaccinated. Just three friends in a room talking smoke about their favorite movies. With Gladiator, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon being two of our favorites. It may possibly be the most evenly matched pairing that we've put together. But somehow we still find a way to give one the slightest of edges. Links in Comments!
Pressing on during this time of Skype podcasting, we bring in one of the local comics of the 719 to The Watch Men Podcast. Please give a warm welcome to Andrew Ingram, as he brings his movie prowess to the forefront in a our battle of Salty Dogs. It's Cast away vs The Perfect in this weeks quest of finding the Best Film of 2000. Tom Hanks delivers a top tier performance, while George Clooney and the city of Gloucester, struggle to keep up with the acting chops of a Volleyball. Links in comments!
Our NCAA style matchup is a true No.1 vs No.15 American Psycho (a favorite to win it all), is taking on the much lesser know, but equally as entertaining Shadow of the Vampire. The former combines all the aspects of what makes a masterpiece, with the latter showing us how to do it on pure talent and grit. We also happen to bring back one of our absolute favorites, Gary Kollman! The man is prepared as always, and doesn't fail to deliver! Links in Comments!
On it's face, our Wild Card round seems like a relatively odd match up. Meet the Parents, one of the great comedies of the year, versus one of the dramatic performances for the ages, Erin Brockovich. Julia Roberts would deliver a defining role of the decade, and was rewarded with and Oscar. Ben Stiller would start to cement his legacy in film with Meet the Parents, and was given a sequel. Oh, and to warn everyone, we weren't able to record for about a month due to injury, so we're just a bunch of gabby chickens going off on a million tangents! Links in Comments!
Do you like music? Do you like movies? Do you think your opinion of both are better than everyone else around you? Then are you going to love this match up. Today's feature brings together film and music snobbery, to a holier than thou nexus, as we match Almost Famous vs High Fidelity. We bring back the Podcast Superstar, Kristin Skye Hoffmann to bring the brains and the brawn to the conversation, and prepare us for an unsuspecting twist! Links in Comments! Intro by Grant Sabin
And We're Back! After a several week hiatus (thanks pinched sciatic nerve), we return with a matchup for the proverbially damaged cinema viewer! We square off the Sophomore films of Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky; Memento vs. Requiem for a Dream. Each film is beyond what is regular Hollywood, and each takes it to whole new levels of WTF. Links in Comments!!!
And Welcome Back! Today's matchup features one of this year's favorites, Snatch, taking on a Very Dark Horse in Sexy Beast. Not only do both films feature absolutely fabulous villains, screenplays, and storytelling. They both feature two of the finest performances in Ben Kingsley's untraditional performance, and Brad Pitt's Fighter. Which one prevails? Links in Comments!
Well. There was plenty of bickering to go around on this weeks episode of The Watch Men Podcast. I THOUGHT having Jonny on as a guest host this week would improve the chances of one of this weeks films to move onto the winners bracket....but I was WRONG. It's not like Finding Forrester vs Remember The Titans should be a close match up.. Right? Links in Comments! Intro by Grant Sabin
We're looking to find the Best Film of 2000 and Season 4 starts out with just a Firecracker of a Match Up and Guest! We have O Brother Where Art Thou? vs Unbreakable! With Special Guest Host, Tracy Kellet! She jumps in and immediately makes the arguments that need to made against one of your favorites! Links Below! Intro by Grant Sabin
The next movie year has been decided and we're prepared to thrown down in the geekiest way possible about what the best movie of the year 2000 is. We have Fan Favorites, Dark Horses, and some very Personal Picks rounding out our top films that will be whittled down to just one. Links in Comments! Intro Music by Grant Sabin
Happy Holidays to all! We wanted to get together and try to put out a "mini" episode, which only turned out to be an hour long lol We did however try to put together our Top 5 Christmas Specials/Movies of all time. Which was incredibly difficult considering the amount of nostalgia that's packed into every decade. But, amazingly, we did find common ground, and had a very clear and respectable Top 3. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at The Watch Men Podcast! Links in Comments! Intro Music by Grant Sabin
It's been 3/4s of a year putting together this season. Normally wouldn't have taken as long to get out the whole season, but *WAVES ARMS* So here for you now is The Watch Men Podcasts' Season 3 Championship. We've narrowed it down to what we sorta think the Top 6 films might be (sorry Weird Science), and have a downright torturous time deciding between some of our favorite movies in history. Enjoy!
We've narrowed down the search for the best film from 1985 to 12. And with the help of our Very Special Guest Host Jeremy, we'll narrow it down to the Final 6! There are Big Laughs, Big Arguments, and Big Hurt Feels! Links Below!
If you were thinking that there were some injustices done throughout our elimination process (like Weird Science only getting a total score of 5, thanks Eric), then here's the chance that we hopefully right some wrongs that brought against some of our favorite films. We take the 10 losers, and match them against each other Mosh Pit style, with the Top 2 advancing to the Semi Finals!
This was supposed to be the episode that started off Season three back in April. But the original recording was so poorly done, that it became our first lost episode. But we came back strong, finishing out the brackets with the Tyson vs Ali tpe of matchup. Two of the perennial favorites of 1985 will face off, with one outcast to the loser bracket. And just to be sure that there is no inherent bias in the process, we bring in a ringer, Gary Kollman. Here it is and enjoy #Goonies vs #BTTF
IN our 9th episode of the Season, we bring back the talents of Mary Pacheco and Kimberly Sewell to give their expertise on the next two challengers of 1985! We bring you pre muscle and capped tooth Tom Cruise in Legend. Versus the young and ever so dark Fairuza Balk as Dorothy Gale in Return to OZ! Additional links provided in the comments!!
The much anticipated return of Kristin Skye Hoffman has finally arrived! She comes in hot to set shit straight in this weeks matchup! We have Biggie's #1 The Color Purple, paired against his Wild Card selection, Mask: The Rocky Dennis Story There's also a caveat to this week's episode! We wondered how The Color Purple could be nominated for 12 Oscars, and not win one. We decided to watch the film that did win, Out of Africa, to see if it holds up! Additional links in comments!
Now onto the real debate of the morning, What's The Best Film of 1985? In this week's match up on The Watch Men Podcast, we take two of the years quirkiest comedies, and set them against each other. One, an immortal comedy classic with all of the elements of a true comedy masterpiece. The Challenger, an underdog of 1994 Denver Nuggets proportion. But with it's strong social message, and lude antics, does it have enough to dethrone a perennial All Star? Subscribe in the links below and find out!
Listen, if you'd like to hear one of the more compelling arguments as to why Clue is the lowkey, dark horse, Best Film of 1985, then follow the links in the comments. But for this post, we're happy to spotlight our guest host, Mike Thompson. Who just happens to be the director of the new short film, Blackbird. Which, if I might say, is superb. And if you'd like to take a peak for yourself, then please follow this link right here! https://vimeo.com/430433832?fbclid=IwAR2bKov-lysawpmL-e0N8owjxZAWKXoS7rF764gBHxgEvKkW3-8CYxYXUDw
In an unbelievable turn of events, our guest host this week just happens to be the Director of films suchs as, #CameraObscura #ScarePackage (Horror Anthology available on Shutter), and the soon to be released #ThePaleDoor (Western Horror available in September), Aaron B. Koontz!!!! He brings his expertise to the show, discussing this weeks matchup in our search for the Best Film of 1985, Rocky IV vs To Live and Die in L.A. !!!! Links in Comments!!!
We're back! And next up on the countdown to finding the best film of 1985, is PeeWee's Big Adventure vs Teen Wolf. Paul Reuben's character of PeeWee Herman, takes center stage to battle the incumbent hero of 1985, Michael J Fox. Even tho this isn't Mr. Fox' premier film of 85, it still has all that Keaton charm. But it's a tall task to take on what's largely considered a Dark Horse of The Best of 1985. Especially considering this is Tim Burton's immortal classic! Links in Comments!!!
If it's got something to do with Horror, then you know that Christina Edwards has been brought to the microphone for her expert opinion. Tonight's matchup also happens to have just a twist of comedy to add to plot. In our quest to find the Best Film of 1985, we bring our next duel, Fright Night versus Return of the Living Dead! Links in Comments!
Welcome to today's matchup of post apocalyptic madness! We reach deep into the Sci Fi bag of 1985 and pull out an instant classic of 1985 that preaches tolerance, Enemy Mine. And pair that against Tina Turner's powerhouse performance in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome! TWO FILMS ENTER< ONE FILM LEAVES!!!!
It's been 3 long months since we last recorded. There's been a pandemic. There was a lost episode, which might've been the best ever podcast recorded in the History of Podcasts. There's been a lot of wishful planning as to what our next season was going to be. If it seems like none of this matters at the time, it's because it doesn't. There's some serious shit going down around us, and it's important to not only take note, but to also define who we are, and want to be. This new Episode features one of my favorite people on this planet, Eric Davis. Whose passion for cinema is only matched by his blunts observations. He really takes our matchup of Weird Science versus The Breakfast Club to task. And we couldn't be happier. For those of you that don't know Eric, he's from Louisville, KY. Where there's still no Justice for Breonna Taylor. Who was murdered by the Louisville Police during a No Knock Warrant. PLease take the time to donate to her GoFundMe here https://www.gofundme.com/f/9v4q2-justice-for-breonna-taylor
We've taken 10 long episodes to narrow down the top 36 films of 1994, and concluded that the top four are as listed: The Lion King, Pulp Fiction, Clerks, and The Shawshank Redemption. We will now take the next hour and half debating which on of these films deserves to come out on top!
The Semi Finals Are Here!!! We take our eight winners from Season 2, squash them together, and try to find the Top 4 of 1994!
We bring back Mary Pacheco and Kimberly Sewell to shower down on us some well needed opinions on our latest episode of the Watch Men Podcast! Today's matchup brings down the Academy Award Winner for 1994, Forrest Gump. Challenging one of Disney's top films in esteemed history, The Lion King. We also settle a few side debates that have always itched at us (me personally). Like, who's the better villain, Scar or Jenny? Link in Comments!!!!
This was one of the more highly anticipated match ups for us! While Above The Rim was more of the pop culture sensation; with an first class soundtrack and filled with today's A list actors. Fresh was more of an Indy House Icon. Co Starring a non-yelling Samuel L Jackson (Pre Pulp), and Giancarlo Esposito as the villian (Pre Breaking Bad), Fresh was atop of our ranks. Links in The Comments!!
Ya know, you start a movie podcast with your friends to have a lil fun about a topic you love to debate. Have a couple of guests on to make the whole thing fit together.... And then you bring a trouble maker on board* for one episode, and Gary Kollman starts shattering the love and devotion that you once held true to a cinematic classic. In this Episode, we debate which film is better; Leon: The Professional, or Tino's wildcard selection, True Lies. Links in comments! *We finished the entire season before the lockdown, so we have plenty of fun in store.
Christina Edwards returns for Season 2 of The Watch Men Podcast! We seek her sage opinion of the macabre, on two of 1994's undead. We take the undeniable, absolute beauty of Brad Pitt; paired with strong overtones of Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst. Match all that to one of 1994's comic book adaptation of The Crow. Starring the late, great Brandon Lee. Links in the Comments!
As a transplant to Pueblo, Jeff Madeen saw an unique opportunity. One that's ahead of it's time, and ready for the limelight. It was with that vision, he opened Blo Back Gallery, as an unfettered platform for the artists of this Blue Collar Community. Perhaps you've seen the gallery while driving on I-25, while passing the Santa Fe exit that overlooks The Grove. It has the newly painted ART sign fixed to roof, announcing it's presence. A self described "Political Atheist", Jeff is working to develop Pueblo's 4th Arts District. More than any other city in Colorado.
We know what you're thinking "How o' how did The Shawshank Redemption make the top 16". Well we're here to answer that for you. And we brought in reinforcements for this "challenge". You've heard his name spoken at least a hundred times before, so we've brought in the infamous Frank Oteri to bring his expertise*. *Ball Busting. Seriously, this was a slaughterhouse of an episode that nearly caused some blows to be thrown. It's fantastic.
Pueblo has been legendary for being a Union Town. Doesn't matter if it's the Teachers, Steel Workers, or the people that swoop up your carts at the Grocery, Pueblo has had your back. But recent Right to Work laws, Black Hills Energy, and the new Gig Economy, have set new challenges for the representation of the proletariat. How are these being addressed in Pueblo today? We bring in our Union expert, Hilary Glasgow to the microphone to discuss the obstacles at hand, in today's Pueblo.
In our journey to finding the best film of 1994, Jim Carrey pops up quite a bit. With three movies all releasing in 1994 (The Mask, Dumb & Dumber and Ace Ventura), we had to take the time to narrow down which one should advance to the Elite Eight of Season 2 of The Watch Men Podcast!
Ever drive Pueblo Blvd past the Nature Center, look at all that land between here and PWest and wonder... Why doesn't someone do something with all that land? Today's guest, Jeff Greenwood can answer that very question. He's taking on the Herculean task of zoning, building, promoting (and sometimes riding), Pueblo's own Motocross Track. He's had successful events in the past, now he's pushing for more. Join us today on Para Political!!!!!
Well over a week late thanks to Wade, we pulled together a minisode with Colorado Spring's own Gary Kollman (not that one)! We debate what they got right, what they got wrong, and if 2019 is going to be considered a "historic" movie year!
It'a 1994 and we've begun our countdown to what the greatest film of the year was. Today we welcome the Indie Film matchup between two first time, and soon to be legendary directors. We have the blue blood royalty of Ben Stiller versus the maxed out credit card of Kevin Smith. Both films featured their directors, and both films gone on to define generations and genres. But which one is better? Join us with our special guest Kristin Skye Hoffman as we decide!
WELCOME TO SEASON 2!!!!! The year is 1994, cinema is ready to break into two distinct forms; Mainstream Hollywood vs Independent Film. Overloaded with talent, 1994 boasts some of the greatest cinematic achievements in History. Whether it be blockbusters like Forrest Gump, or Shawshank. Or Independant masterpieces like Leon: The Professional. 1994 is sure to salivate even the newest of movie junkies. Today however, we present our first matchup of 1994. Two films that were spurned from the genius that is Quentin Tarantino. The heavy favorite of 1994, Pulp Fiction takes on the deep seeded under dog, Natural Born Killers. And this episode taps some of the expertise of our esteemed guest, Ms. Kristen Skye Hoffman!
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!! After several months of contentious debate, personal grievances, and illustrious guests, we have a final that will have a Champion of Film for 1984! We started with 32 films, and have brought you the Final Four. Each a Trilogy, each a blockbuster hit with a a dynamite soundtrack, each with a historic director. But only one can be champion..join us as we debate to find the Champion of 1984
THE SEMIFINALS ARE HERE!!!! We are going to narrow down the winners of our current search for the The Best Film of 1984! The competitors are as listed: Ghostbusters, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Nightmare on Elm St, The Terminator, Spinal Tap, Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom, Amadeus, and The Karate Kid. These films will now be narrowed down to the Final Four, which will compete for the Title in our final episode of Season 1!
We've saved the biggest shodown for the final two competitors showdown for a chance to move on to the next round. Two CLASSICS of 1984 show their best, as the OG John Hughes takes on The Fresh Face of Daniel Larusso. And to bring a fair amount of balance to the show, we have two very special guests, Mary Pacheco and Kimberly Sewell. Join us as we debate the very best of these to heavyweights!
