Daily Devotional - Job 2:1-13 - Silent Suffering: Job's Pain DeepensEven after losing everything, Job's faith was tested again—this time through physical pain and isolation. Covered in sores, sitting in ashes, and misunderstood even by his wife, Job still refused to curse God. His response?“Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” (Job 2:10)Sometimes, the most powerful support we can offer is simply sitting with someone in silence—just as Job's friends did for seven days.
When everything Job had was taken from him—his wealth, his family, his security—he still worshipped God, saying:“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21)Life's trials may shake us, but our faith must remain unshaken. No matter what you're facing today, remember that God is still in control. Stay faithful, trust His plan, and hold on to His promises.
In Nehemiah 13, we see a leader who refuses to compromise on God's standards. Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem and takes bold action—restoring temple order, reinforcing Sabbath observance, and calling the people back to faithfulness. His story reminds us that true commitment to God requires courage, consistency, and a willingness to make hard choices.
Dedication and Celebration of Jerusalem's Wall
Nehemiah 11:1-36 - The Leaders and Settlers in Jerusalem In this chapter it is a very detailed account of the repopulation of Jerusalem after the exile. Since the city was underpopulated, leaders took residence there, and a tenth of the people were chosen by lot to join them. Others willingly volunteered to live in the city, receiving blessings from the people for their commitment. The chapter lists the families, priests, Levites, gatekeepers, and temple servants who resettled in Jerusalem and the surrounding towns, emphasizing the restoration of God's chosen city and the faithful service of its inhabitants. Nehemiah 9:1-38 records a powerful moment of national repentance and covenant renewal by the Israelites. Following the reading of the Law, the people gather in fasting, wearing sackcloth, and covering themselves in dust as a sign of humility and sorrow for their sins. The Levites lead a lengthy prayer recounting God's faithfulness throughout history, from creation to the Exodus, His provision in the wilderness, and His patience despite Israel's repeated disobedience. Acknowledging their failures, the people confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors, recognizing God's righteousness and mercy. The chapter concludes with the Israelites making a binding covenant to follow God's law and remain faithful to Him.If you would like to purchase my book:Coming To Loving Yourself Paperback - https://buy.stripe.com/eVadTVbp6cxl3gA288 Coming To Loving Yourself Ebook - Free on Kindle Unlimited - https://a.co/d/4UPEXQb Dr. Toya Spencer-Philmore - Repairers of The Breach Miracle Crusade Event Tickets - https://brushfire.com/toyaspencerm.../resuscitate2025/593102 Advertise On My Podcast - https://sharisenjohnson-moorellc.hbportal.co/public/PodcastAds Donations For The Podcast - https://buy.stripe.com/9AQ9DF1Ow40P6sM4gs
Title: Ezra Reads the LawNehemiah 8:1-18 describes a pivotal moment in Israel's history when Ezra the scribe publicly reads the Book of the Law to the gathered people of Jerusalem. Standing on a wooden platform, he reads from morning until midday, and the people listen attentively, responding with reverence and worship. The Levites help interpret the law so everyone can understand its meaning. As they grasp the significance of God's commands, the people initially weep, but Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites encourage them to rejoice, declaring that "the joy of the Lord is your strength." The chapter concludes with the Israelites rediscovering and celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles, marking a renewed commitment to God's word and His covenant. If you would like to purchase the book - Coming To Loving Yourself Paperback - https://buy.stripe.com/eVadTVbp6cxl3gA288 Coming To Loving Yourself Ebook - Free on Kindle Unlimited - https://a.co/d/8YBVV7s Dr. Toya Spencer-Philmore - Repairers of The Breach - Miracle Crusade - https://brushfire.com/toyaspencerm.../resuscitate2025/593102 Advertising Spots Available Inquiries - https://sharisenjohnson-moorellc.hbportal.co/public/PodcastAds To Leave a comment or suggestions please reach me through email - snjm@sharisenjohnsonmoore.com
With the wall of Jerusalem now completed, Nehemiah takes the next crucial step—establishing order and security. In Nehemiah 7, he appoints faithful leaders, sets up gatekeepers, and organizes the people for the city's restoration. He then records a genealogy of those who had returned from exile, ensuring that God's people are properly identified and positioned for a fresh start. This chapter highlights the importance of stewardship, leadership, and preparing for God's continued work after a major victory. Completing the wall was just the beginning—now, it was time to rebuild the community and strengthen their identity as God's chosen people. In Nehemiah 6, opposition against Nehemiah intensifies as his enemies—Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem—resort to deception, threats, and intimidation to stop the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls. They attempt to lure Nehemiah into a trap, spread false rumors to discredit him, and even hire a false prophet to instill fear. However, Nehemiah remains steadfast, refusing to be distracted or intimidated. With unwavering faith and discernment, he completes the wall in just 52 days, proving that when God's hand is on a work, no enemy can prevail. This chapter reminds us to stay focused on our God-given assignments, resist distractions, and trust in His protection against those who seek to derail our purpose. Daily Devotional: Dealing with OppressionNehemiah 5:1-19 In Nehemiah 5, we see that opposition doesn't always come from the outside—sometimes, it arises from within. As the people of Jerusalem worked hard to rebuild the wall, a crisis emerged: the wealthy were exploiting the poor, charging excessive interest, and taking their land, homes, and even children as payment for debts. This injustice threatened not only the unity of the people but also their ability to complete God's work. Nehemiah, moved by righteous anger, confronted the leaders and called them to repentance. He reminded them that they were to serve God, not oppress their fellow Israelites. His leadership demonstrated that true restoration isn't just about rebuilding walls—it's about restoring justice, integrity, and compassion within the community. This passage challenges us to examine our own actions. Are we uplifting others or contributing to their burdens? God calls us to be people of justice, mercy, and love. When we stand against oppression and choose righteousness, we reflect His heart and create an environment where His blessings can flow. Daily Devotional: Defending the WallNehemiah 4:1-23 When God calls us to rebuild, opposition is inevitable. In Nehemiah 4, we witness how the Israelites faced mockery, threats, and intimidation as they worked to restore Jerusalem's walls. Their enemies, led by Sanballat and Tobiah, ridiculed their efforts and plotted to stop the work. But instead of giving in to fear, Nehemiah turned to prayer, strengthened the people's resolve, and set up defenses to protect the work. With one hand on their tools and the other on their weapons, the builders pressed on, trusting in God's protection. This passage reminds us that spiritual opposition often accompanies God's assignments, but with prayer, perseverance, and faith, we can stand firm. Just as Nehemiah encouraged his people to fight for their families and their future, we too must remain steadfast in our calling, knowing that God fights for us. Stay equipped with the Word, stand guard in faith, and continue building what God has placed in your hands. Nehemiah 3:1-32 provides a detailed account of the teamwork and dedication that went into rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. This chapter highlights the unity of God's people as they work side by side, each contributing to the restoration of the city. From priests to goldsmiths, rulers to merchants, everyone had a role in rebuilding the wall, showing that God's work requires collective effort and commitment. Despite challenges, the people remained focused, demonstrating that when individuals come together with a shared vision, great things can be accomplished. This passage serves as a powerful reminder that rebuilding—whether physical, spiritual, or emotional—requires cooperation, perseverance, and faith in God's plan. In Nehemiah 2:1-20, we see the power of vision, faith, and determination in the face of opposition. Nehemiah, a trusted cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, demonstrates remarkable leadership and reliance on God as he embarks on a mission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. This chapter highlights key moments of preparation, prayerful dependence, and bold action. Nehemiah's courage to ask the king for help, his careful planning, and his unwavering trust in God's provision serve as an inspiration for overcoming obstacles when fulfilling God's purpose. Despite resistance from enemies, Nehemiah remains steadfast, declaring that the hand of God is with him. This passage teaches us that when God calls us to rebuild or restore, He equips us with the resources, courage, and favor we need to succeed. The book of Nehemiah is a powerful narrative in the Old Testament that chronicles the restoration of Jerusalem's walls and the spiritual revival of the Jewish people after their exile. Nehemiah, a cupbearer to the Persian king Artaxerxes, is called by God to lead the rebuilding of the city's walls despite opposition from enemies and internal challenges. The book highlights themes of leadership, prayer, perseverance, and faith, showing how Nehemiah's reliance on God and strategic planning brought about both physical and spiritual renewal for the Israelites. In Nehemiah Chapter 1, Nehemiah, serving as the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, learns of the dire state of Jerusalem—its walls are broken, and its gates are burned. Deeply grieved, he turns to God in prayer, confessing the sins of Israel, acknowledging God's covenant faithfulness, and pleading for favor before the king. Through intimidation, bribery, and false accusations to Persian kings, these opponents temporarily halted the reconstruction. This chapter serves as a reminder of the resistance that often accompanies obedience to God's calling and the importance of steadfast faith in overcoming obstacles. Ezra 3:1-13 describes the restoration of worship among the Israelites after their return from exile in Babylon. It begins with the people gathering in unity in Jerusalem during the seventh month to rebuild the altar of God. Despite their fear of neighboring peoples, they prioritize worship, offering burnt sacrifices according to the Law of Moses and observing the Feast of Tabernacles. They also lay the foundation for the temple, accompanied by praise and thanksgiving, as the Levites lead the celebration with songs and instruments. While many rejoice with loud shouts of joy, others, especially those who had seen the former temple, weep aloud, resulting in a poignant mixture of joy and sorrow that echoes across the land.
