Tuesday – Job 2:3-103 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”4 “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has for his own life. 5 But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.”6 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.”7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. 8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[b] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
Job 2:11-3:26 English Standard Version Job's Three Friends 11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him. 12 And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward heaven. 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great. Job Laments His Birth 3 After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. 2 And Job said: 3 “Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night that said, ‘A man is conceived.' 4 Let that day be darkness! May God above not seek it, nor light shine upon it. 5 Let gloom and deep darkness claim it. Let clouds dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. 6 That night—let thick darkness seize it! Let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months. 7 Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful cry enter it. 8 Let those curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up Leviathan. 9 Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light, but have none, nor see the eyelids of the morning, 10 because it did not shut the doors of my mother's womb, nor hide trouble from my eyes. 11 “Why did I not die at birth, come out from the womb and expire? 12 Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should nurse? 13 For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest, 14 with kings and counselors of the earth who rebuilt ruins for themselves, 15 or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver. 16 Or why was I not as a hidden stillborn child, as infants who never see the light? 17 There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest. 18 There the prisoners are at ease together; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster. 19 The small and the great are there, and the slave is free from his master. 20 “Why is light given to him who is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul, 21 who long for death, but it comes not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, 22 who rejoice exceedingly and are glad when they find the grave? 23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in? 24 For my sighing comes instead of[a] my bread, and my groanings are poured out like water. 25 For the thing that I fear comes upon me, and what I dread befalls me. 26 I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, but trouble comes.” Footnotes Job 3:24 Or like; Hebrew before

Where is God when we are sick? That's the question we are going to consider from Job 2. In seasons of sickness, we should not despair, but trust in God's comforting presence through Jesus Christ. As you prepare for the message, please read the passage and ask yourself,"How should I respond to sickness?""Do I despair or do I turn to God?"

When life gets overwhelming, it's easy to believe the lie that God is against us. But in Job 2:9–10, we see a man who, despite unbearable suffering, refused to curse God. He recognized that God is still his Advocate—not his adversary—even in the worst of moments. This devotional is for every believer who's in a season of pain, loss, or deep discouragement. Don't let the enemy twist your suffering into bitterness. God is still present. And the same God who gives good also allows trials—not to break you, but to build you.
On May 4, Patrick Edwards continues his series called, I Have a Question, with this message on Why Do Bad Things Happen. Job 2:10 | If God is good and all-powerful, then surely, He wouldn't allow pain? Or even if He did allow it to bad people, then not good people…right? But sometimes the bad in this world thrive and the good suffer. What about the innocent born into poverty, famine, or abuse? Suffering seems to be an obvious indictment against God and even against His existence. What is His answer?

Daily Devotional - Job 2:1-13 - Silent Suffering: Job's Pain DeepensEven after losing everything, Job's faith was tested again—this time through physical pain and isolation. Covered in sores, sitting in ashes, and misunderstood even by his wife, Job still refused to curse God. His response?“Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” (Job 2:10)Sometimes, the most powerful support we can offer is simply sitting with someone in silence—just as Job's friends did for seven days.
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Pastor Joe Troutman preached "Intensive Trials" from Job 2:1-10."Jesus, at every point in his earthly life, blessed God, and yet still died so that all who have cursed God yet believed in his Son would never die."1. Skin for Skin (vs. 1-6)2. Six Little Words (vs. 7-9)3. The Good for the Bad (v. 10)
