The challenges farmers faced during the “Dirty Thirties” took a U-turn with the outbreak of World War II. The rains returned, crops were good, and land was cheap. The American military's increased demand for crops and meat drove up prices for those commodities. While the state lagged behind in war-specific industrial production, North Dakota's contribution in the form of agricultural products should not be underestimated.
A couple had done everything right — dual income, debt-free, millions saved in tax-deferred accounts — and they were on track to hand $10 million to the IRS. Not because they made bad decisions, but because nobody had ever shown them what "doing everything right" actually costs without proactive planning. In this episode, Gabe sits down with Rob Bedinghaus, Ph.D., CFP® — founder of Bedinghaus Wealth Planning and author of Beyond the Numbers — to dig into the retirement planning conversations most advisors never have. Rob brings a teacher's instinct to every client meeting, and this episode reflects that: clear frameworks, real scenarios, and a perspective on legacy that goes well beyond the balance sheet.Listeners will walk away with a clearer picture of the income gaps retirees face, a practical mental model for surviving market volatility, and a compelling case for why tax planning and retirement planning are the same conversation.About Rob BedinghausRob Bedinghaus, Ph.D., CFP® is the founder of Bedinghaus Wealth Planning, an independent practice in Lebanon, Ohio affiliated with Raymond James. Opryland has been closed for nearly 30 years, and as the producer of a new documentary puts it, some people are still “butt hurt” about it. Maybe we didn't know what we had until it left a theme park-size hole in Nashville's heart. A documentary premiering at the Nashville Film Festival, called “A Circle Broken,” gives us a good excuse to reopen that wound and hear the story of Opryland like we've not heard before, a story about how perhaps Opryland saved the Grand Ole Opry itself. We're talking to the characters who are keeping the memory alive and hearing your memories of Opryland USA.Guests: Brandon Vestal, filmmaker David Ewing, historian Bob Whitaker, former Opryland General Manager Michael-Demby Cain, Opryland performer who went to Broadway Jennifer Roberts, performer Lynn Wright, half of first couple married at Opryland Sean Hughes, “The Balloon Guy”

BUILT TO LAST – God's Plan for Love, Marriage & FamilyWeek 4 | Built to Last: Leaving a Godly Legacy{CORE VALUE: Agape Church – The things we BUILD FOR GOD should OUTLIVE US}Because whether we realize it or not… We are all building something that will outlive us.TRANSITIONIf your life and family are going to be Built to Last, you have to stop thinking just about today……and start building for generations.FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTUREPsalm 78:4 (ESV)We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.Faith was never meant to stop with you.It was meant to flow through you.POINT 1: LEGACY IS BUILT, NOT LEFTMany people think legacy is something you leave when you die.But legacy is something you build while you live.Proverbs 13:22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous. That inheritance is not just financial… it's spiritual, it's relational, and it's generational.BIG IDEA…YOU ARE BUILDING A LEGACY RIGHT NOW—WHETHER YOU REALIZE IT OR NOT.The question is not: “Will I leave a legacy?”The question is: “What kind of legacy am I building?”POINT 2: WHAT YOU PASS DOWN MATTERS MORE THAN WHAT YOU PASS ONWe focus on:Money, success, opportunities But God focuses on:Faith, character, truth Deuteronomy 6:6–7And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You don't just pass down possessions… You pass down priorities.BIG IDEA…WHAT YOU LIVE CONSISTENTLY WILL BE WHAT YOUR CHILDREN REMEMBER PERMANENTLY.POINT 3: MULTI-GENERATIONAL FAITH IS GOD'S DESIGNPsalm 145:4One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.God never intended for faith to be: one generation deepHe designed it to be: multi-generational2 Timothy 1:5I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.Faith was passed down, Modeled and it MultipliedBIG IDEA…A STRONG FAMILY IS NOT BUILT IN ONE GENERATION — IT'S STRENGTHENED ACROSS GENERATIONS.POINT 4: YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES THAT POSITIVELY IMPACT THE LEGACYSome people hear this and think: “But my family didn't pass down anything good…”But here's the power of the Gospel: You can be the starting point.2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. You don't have to repeat what you inherited… You can rebuild what was broken.BIG IDEA…IN CHRIST, YOU DON'T HAVE TO CONTINUE THE PATTERN—YOU CAN CHANGE IT.POINT 5: FINISH STRONGER THAN YOU STARTEDIt's not just how you start… It's how you finish.Philippians 1:6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.Hebrews 12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…A Godly legacy requires: consistency, endurance, and, intentionality BIG IDEA…A STRONG FINISH CREATES A LASTING LEGACY.PRACTICAL TOOLS FOR BUILDING A GODLY LEGACY1. CLARIFY YOUR FAMILY VALUES (POST THEM, IF YOU CAN)What matters most? What will define your home? [BECAUSE…] What is clear gets built.2. TALK ABOUT GOD REGULARLYShare testimonies; Talk about His faithfulness. [BECAUSE…] Stories shape legacy.3. LIVE WHAT YOU BELIEVEIntegrity; Faith in action. [BECAUSE…] Consistency builds credibility.4. INVEST IN THE NEXT GENERATION INTENTIONALLYTime; Conversations; Mentorship. [BECAUSE…] Legacy requires investment.5. BREAK WHAT NEEDS TO BE BROKENToxic patterns; Generational dysfunction. [BECAUSE…] We don't pass down what God wants to heal.CLOSING MOMENTOne day… Everything we've built will speak.Your life will preach a message… even when you're no longer here.[THE QUESTION IS…] Will it say: “Success… but no substance?”Or will it say: “Faith… that changed generations?”Because at the end of the day… The greatest thing you can leave behindis not something in their hands…THE GREATEST THING YOU CAN LEAVE BEHIND IT'S SOMETHING IN THEIR HEARTS.CONSISTENT PRAYER MOVING FORWARD…“God, help me build a legacy that honors You.” “Use my life to impact generations.” “Break what needs to be broken and build what needs to last.” DECLARATIONMy life will not be lived for the moment. My family will not drift without direction. My legacy will be built on faith. And what is built on faith anchored in the finished work of Jesus… will outlive me for generations!

Talking about money in families is hard. Talking about legacy is even harder. In this conversation with host Syama Bunten, Amy Castoro gets into why so many wealth transfers go sideways. Not because of bad legal structures or poor planning, but because families never learn to talk to each other. About what they actually need. About what they're afraid of. About what the money means to them and what they want it to mean for the next generation. When those conversations don't happen, conflict fills the gap and the wealth that was supposed to bring a family together ends up pulling it apart. Amy talks about the pressure that lands on the next generation, the damage that lingers after family conflict over money, and why women are increasingly at the center of these conversations as decision-makers, caregivers, and keepers of family culture. But before all of that, she shares where her perspective actually comes from. She grew up watching her mother stretch every dollar, lead with generosity, and hold things together through sheer resourcefulness. That upbringing gave her a particular lens on what wealth actually means and what it costs families who treat it as a financial problem instead of a human one. It's that backstory that explains how she became CEO of The Williams Group and why she approaches this work the way she does. This episode is part of a larger conversation Syama is building at Wealth Catalyst, salons and summits where women talk candidly about money, legacy, and what it actually takes to get it right. If that's the room you've been looking for, find a salon near you or join us at the Wealth Catalyst Summit in New York on May 14th. In today's episode, I sit down with David Gastelum, founder of DASH, an AI-powered platform built to preserve the memories and stories that define a life. After 23 years as a Los Angeles firefighter responding to countless emergency calls, David began asking a powerful question: what happens to someone's memories after they're gone? That realization led him to create DASH, a digital legacy system that connects photos, videos, and personal stories to physical memorials using QR codes. We talk about honoring the people who shaped us, preserving family history beyond boxes of old photos, and how emerging technology may allow future generations to experience the voices, stories, and moments that shaped their lives.

Hello to you listening in Olympia, Washington! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. I am a storyteller of the old school. What do I mean? For over 30 years I've taught (and continue to teach) my clients and students the same thing: “Put down the paper and nobody gets hurt!” Why? Because storytellers have something to say that comes from their aliveness, which is what people most want to feel and connect with. Sharing our stories out loud brings them to light and life, and encourages us to do what most folks fear more than snakes: stand up and speak up in public. Story spoken aloud is what we leave of ourselves in another person. A story is an intimate lasting legacy, a permanent inheritance much like a vow or an oath. When we share our stories out loud, we connect with each other, we belong to each other. We might not realize it but we are creating a verbal promise, a vow, an oath of belonging. Think about how many times we've heard someone say, "Repeat after me: I solemnly swear..." Marrying couples pledge faithfulness through the challenges and joys of marriage. Lawyers uphold the law, maintain client confidentiality, and act as an officer of the court. Doctors focus on ethics, patient care and societal responsibilities. Politicians preserve and defend the Constitution. US military support and defend the Constitution against all enemies. Immigrants becoming US citizens swear the Oath of Allegiance to the United States during a formal naturalization ceremony. From the time we are children in school we recite The Pledge of Allegiance, a patriotic promise of loyalty to the United States flag and the republic for which it stands. What happens when we share our stories out loud? They become real. We say what we mean, we mean what we say. We—and those hearing us—know what we stand for and what we won't stand for. Yes, you might write a story but it needs to be shared out loud to enrich and include the wider world. That's the legacy of the stories we leave in those who have heard them spoken aloud. Though the exact date of his birth is unknown, Frederick Douglass chose Feb. 14 as his birthday — a deeply personal decision tied to his mother, Harriet Bailey. That choice laid the groundwork for Douglass Day and later Black history observances. A century after Negro History Week was founded, Douglass' legacy continues to shape conversations about freedom, justice and equality. Colorado is mourning the loss of a radio legend; we remember the life and legacy of James "Dr. Daddio" Walker whose radio station KDKO was long known as "The Soul of the Rockies." Then, how do you recruit more teachers of color? Students at Northglenn High School recently tried to address that concern. Also, black holes, microplastics and new beginnings sound like things that may not go together. But for a Colorado Springs artist they have quite a lot in common.
