Not even a year into the second Trump administration, it's clear that people are struggling for hope. But there's hope to be found in so many places, including in the wisdom of the women who took on Trump—and won. E. Jean Carroll and her lawyer Roberta “Robbie” Kaplan made headlines in 2023 and 2024 for winning a significant legal battle against Trump, with a jury finding him guilty of sexual abuse and defamation, and awarding Carroll $5 and then later an $83.3 million verdict. What can we learn from E. Jean Carroll's case to fuel our fight forward?Helping us to sort out these questions and set the record straight are our very special guests, E. Jean Carroll: E. Jean Carroll is an American journalist and author. In 2023, she won a legal battle against Donald Trump after a jury found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Her latest book, Not My Type: One Woman Against a President, was released in June of 2025. Roberta Kaplan: Roberta “Robbie” Kaplan is a renowned civil litigator and trial lawyer. On behalf of her client, E. Jean Carroll, she became the only lawyer to have taken the deposition of President Donald J. Trump twice, and to have obtained two separate unanimous jury verdicts against him of $5 and later $83.3 million. She is the author of the book Then Comes Marriage: United States v. Windsor and the Defeat of DOMA. In this heartfelt episode of The Franchise Woman podcast, host Rebecca Monet and co-host Tracy Kawa sit down with Bonnie Lanyon and Carol Ann Hunter—two PuroClean franchisees who have built not only successful businesses but a decades-long friendship rooted in shared values, family, and faith in their franchising journey.
I had an extraordinary conversation with two remarkable women who conquered the world's highest marathon while battling their own personal challenges. Sally Orange MBE, a former British Army major turned mental health campaigner, completed the grueling 12-hour Everest Base Camp Marathon dressed as a breast costume just weeks after her cancer diagnosis, using her signature approach of sparking vital conversations through humour and vulnerability. Felicity Ashley, a transatlantic rower and cancer survivor, marked her three-year cancer anniversary by tackling the same brutal challenge, drawing on the deep inner confidence she's developed through overcoming adversity. Together, they share how they navigated altitude sickness, unexpected climbs, and physical exhaustion while supporting each other and fellow runners from 32 different nationalities. This powerful episode reveals how both women transformed their approach to challenges - Sally by accepting her diagnosis "on her own terms" and Felicity by reframing adversity from "why me?" to "why not me?" Their stories demonstrate the profound impact of community support, the importance of building a "cookie jar" of past achievements to draw strength from, and how authentic vulnerability can create life-changing conversations. From Sally's fruit costumes that have inspired four women to get checked for breast cancer, to Felicity's unshakeable belief that she can overcome anything, this conversation offers practical insights on resilience, gratitude, and finding purpose in life's toughest moments. Whether you're facing your own challenges or supporting others through theirs, their combined wisdom on mental preparation, community building, and maintaining hope will leave you feeling empowered to tackle whatever lies ahead. Send us a textWhen Kelli's son Mac ditches the podcast for summer fun, she brings in the "slightly unhinged" Emily as guest co-host for an episode that careens between book recommendations, serious social commentary, and hilarious tangents. The conversation opens with a deep dive into psychological thrillers, including "Phantom Limb" by Lucinda Berry—a novelist who draws from her experience as a child trauma psychologist. This leads to a fascinating discussion about childhood resilience and the profound impacts of early trauma. The hosts explore the complexities of mental health conditions like OCD and autism, offering thoughtful perspectives on how neurological differences affect both those diagnosed and their loved ones.In a standout segment, Kelli delivers a passionate PSA about birth control misconceptions, emphasizing that "pulling out is Russian roulette" and that condoms, vasectomies, and tubal ligation all count as legitimate birth control methods. The conversation shifts to the complex topic of elective abortion, with both hosts expressing concerns about how political polarization has created dangerous conditions for healthcare workers. The episode lightens up with a hilarious breakdown of newly announced Minnesota State Fair foods (mostly disappointments), debates about the meaning of "doozy," and a surprisingly practical discussion about a post-intimacy hygiene product called the "drip stick." Throughout it all, Kelli and Emily's chemistry shines as they navigate both heavy topics and lighthearted banter with equal authenticity.Whether you're looking for book recommendations, candid conversations about reproductive health, or just want to hear two friends dissect bizarre fair foods with brutal honesty, this episode delivers with warmth, humor, and zero filter. SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:39-55SHOW NOTES: We invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you will find additional resources to encourage your Walk with God. Two women, cousins, were brought together by God's sovereign plan. In Luke 1, the young betrothed Mary quickly travels to the home of Elizabeth and stays with her for three months. Elizabeth welcomes her with words of blessing. "And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!'” Luke 1:41-42 The word 'blessed' means to be especially favored because of God's grace. Mary was most blessed because her Son would be blessed, and He is the greatest blessing ever given to all people. Mary visited Elizabeth, an older, godly woman. Their time together was filled with praise and prayer. Elizabeth shared wise words, comfort, and encouragement. Mary gave glory to God for His power, holiness, and mercy. "And Mary said, 'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has looked on the humble estate of His servant.'” Luke 1:46-48 SONG: "Let Us Exalt His Name" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAnNfN8rnlM&list=RDFAnNfN8rnlM&start_radio=1
Send us a textIn this interview with debut author Carolyn Dasher, we talk about her new novel, American Sky, which features two women who join the WASP in WWII and their legacy across three generations.Buy the book: https://literaryaviatrix.com/book/american-sky/The blurb:Three generations of indomitable women navigate life on their terms in an epic and inspiring historical novel about love and war, family secrets, and mothers and daughters finding the freedom to fly. It's 1943. The war rages. The newly launched WASP program is recruiting. And barnstormer fan Georgeanne “George” Ector's dream is to take to the skies. Grit is what she inherited from her mother, an Oklahoma farm girl at the turn of the century who preferred taking apart an engine to stitching linens for a hope chest. She taught her daughter well. George isn't the only woman about to follow her calling.Vivian Shaw, so similar to George they're like sisters, also longs for a career flying the fastest planes in the American arsenal. For a time, George and Vivian triumph. But at war's end, the adventurous women are grounded by the expectations of others: to get married, have children, and raise a family. Vivian has other plans. So, eventually, do George's daughters, Ruth and Ivy, who embark on very different paths of their own.Three generations of women staring down a vast horizon of possibilities are determined to navigate whatever comes their way―from the hardships of war and home to love and loss, and to the fallout of a long-held secret that could change their lives forever.Did you know you can support your local independent bookshop and me by shopping through my Bookshop.org affiliate links on my website? Send us a textIn this episode, I chat with Baker Rogers and Mattilyn Kortney, co-owners of Queer Have Books in Colombia, South Carolina.Nestled in Columbia's historic Arcade Mall, this cozy 680-square-foot sanctuary defines queer not just as gender and sexual identity but as active resistance against all forms of discrimination. The shelves hold carefully curated collections addressing LGBTQ+ experiences alongside works on anti-racism, feminism, and social justice, creating a space where intersectionality isn't just acknowledged but celebrated. What makes Queer Haven remarkable is how it thrives despite challenging political circumstances. While South Carolina faces potential legislation that could lead to widespread book bans, the shop has leaned into controversy by prominently featuring banned titles. "We have people come in here every day saying 'I've got to get this before it's sold out,'" Baker shares, noting the irony that censorship attempts have actually boosted interest in these books.Beyond retail, Queer Haven functions as a vibrant community center. In its first year as a brick-and-mortar location, it hosted an impressive 160 events, ranging from book clubs and writing workshops to drag story hours and queer comedy nights. In a world increasingly dominated by algorithm-driven recommendations and instant delivery, Queer Haven Books represents something profoundly different: human connection, thoughtful curation, and a physical space where marginalized voices are centered rather than silenced. It's not just about selling books—it's about creating community one page at a time. This episode is brought to you by Saturn Press. Sex is natural....and it can be pretty funny....On this episode we go head first into that issue we never like to talk about even though the birds do it, the bees do it....and pretty much everyone else does it. It's time for 'Two Women'.Violette is having a difficult maternity leave. Florence is dealing with depression. Despite their careers and families, they feel like failures. Florence's first infidelity is a revelation. When having fun is far down the list of priorities, sleeping with a delivery guy could be revolutionary.A rare sex farce comedy that actually leads with honesty and intelligence rather then goofy salacious moments, 'Two Women' is an absolute delight and we had the pleasure of sitting down with director Chloe Robichaud over breakfast here in downtown Toronto (apologies for the new mic) about the origins of the story, keeping the comedy adult and honest as well as the art of direction and having a conversation via film that could be interpreted as difficult but is also more vital then we really admit when it comes to our collective sexual needs and desires.'Two Women' is in select theatres across Canada now.
This week, director Chloe Robichaud – whose charming, spiky new comedy Two Women is now playing in Toronto and Montreal, and expandng to Vancouver on Friday – celebrates Jean-Marc Vallee's 2011 masterwork Cafe de Flore, in which the late director shuffled and remixed two different love stories in two different time periods like the brilliant DJ he was. Your genial host Norm Wilner got a little choked up on this one.
Tomi Lahren expresses her outrage over a transgender athlete winning 2 women's events at a California track and field finals. Human Events Opinion Editor, Kenny Cody, joins to react to that and more. I share my personal thoughts and strong feelings after watching the recent podcast about Aubrey Marcus, his wife Vylana, and their announcement to the community they've been selling monongamy as sacred union for the last couple years in courses while lowkey Aubrey has had a third (much younger) partner as well. I've personally been presented with a similar situation with my ex and it was also wrapped in pseudo-spiritual language to try to make me swallow it - so let's just say this whole thing has me triggered. I also always believe when we get triggered it's an opportunity for us to heal something and that's what I break down for you in this episode. I really believe as a collective we can utilitize this story to heal many things within ourselves internally and as a community externally. Disclaimer- I pronounce Vylana's name wrong because i'm slightly (ok, a lot haha) dyslexic so apologizes to her for that. Sending ya'll love.
Matt told his girlfriend he was in New York. He told his wife he was in California. But his phone? Found in a Jamba Juice in Tucson. This To Catch a Cheater is one of the wildest yet. Taylor thought her boyfriend Matt might be cheating, so she asked us to call him. He sounded faithful—until a woman named Samantha called us immediately after. Turns out, she’s Matt’s wife, and they’ve been married for five years. Taylor has been dating him for three. In this episode: Taylor and Samantha join forces to confront Matt. We try to reach him…but find out his phone is in a different state entirely. The lies unravel, and we plan the ultimate sting: getting him back on the phone under the guise of a “positive follow-up.” If you're into chaos, gaslighting, and the power of two women coming together to expose a cheating liar, this is the one to hear.

And she also shares her own stories of resilience and joy in the aftermath of grief. In many parts of the world, fossil fuel interests and their political allies have gone so far as to weaponize pollution as policy to push out marginalized communities. Alexis Madrigal, host of KQED's Forum and author of “The Pacific Circuit,” describes how this happened in West Oakland, beginning as early as the 1930s: “You see them just saying it. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. 15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” 16 Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebul. 19 Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers drive them out? As we continue our study in Acts, we meet a couple of women who couldn't be more different. We met Lydia last time, and saw how the Lord saved her. But today, we encounter a woman who is demon possessed. Does this sort of thing still happen today? More than we may realize, but God has the power to deliver! In Revelation 19:1-10 we see the two ends of two different women: Babylon and Jerusalem. The one is the great harlot who is judged on the last day. The other is Jerusalem, the bride of Christ, who enters into the wedding of the lamb. Such is the end point of all history, the point to which everything is moving. May it be that God would grant you to be part of that pure woman, made holy through the blood of Christ.

This week Nicola and Di chat with 2 incredibly inspiring women, Nici Andronicus and Tania Taylor-Frost, whose stories will give you a huge boost. Both of these women do incredible work for the charity Be Centre, which changes the lives of children through play therapy. Nici is a former elite athlete, who represented Australia in triathlon and modern pentathlon. She competed in 10 world championships and over 90 international events, becoming world no. 2 in 1997 and a three-time national triathlon champion. Not only that, Nici is a mother of 5, and does a lot of incredible work for different charities. Tania is the CEO of the Be Centre, helping children navigate trauma and big emotions through play therapy and early support. She’s also the director of the Sydney Skinny, a passionate force for children’s mental health and a fierce advocate for early intervention. Tania is also a proud mum of 2. In this conversation you’ll hear Nici’s powerful story of what it was like when her husband was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was 20 weeks pregnant with their 5th child. Nici was able to draw on the incredible resilience and strong mindset that she developed in her career as an elite athlete, to help her get through what was arguably the biggest challenge of her life. Nici shares openly and vulnerably about what it was like for her family, and how her youngest child was deeply affected and needed the support of the Be Centre to be able to process the trauma and difficult emotions that he was going through. We also hear Tania’s story, and how she originally met Nicola during a hiking trip with Wild Women On Top, where they were supposed to share a tent - you’ll have to listen in to hear what actually happened. She shares about why she was motivated to switch from working in tech for corporates and government to working for charities, and what it’s like for her now in her role as CEO for the Be Centre. When you listen to the passion that these 2 women have for making a positive difference in the world and the way they talk about giving as a gift to self, we guarantee you’ll feel inspired like we did. If you want to give back in a really fun way, we’d love you to consider attending the Be Centre Annual Charity Gala, on Friday May 30th. Tickets are $280 and all proceeds help families and children who otherwise could not access therapy due to financial hardship.
