    002: Your Relationship to Money

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 26, 2023 24:08

Is the thought of money keeping you up at night? Perhaps you're fully content. Maybe it's not something you think about because you know it'll negatively impact your mood and decision making. A healthy relationship with money is the ONLY way forward. How you think, feel and talk about money says a lot about your mindset and is something that can seriously impact your life. There are three common relationships: avoidant, obsessed and healthy. In this episode, I'll talk in detail about how the three key relationships affect you and how you can change your outlook towards money by changing how you talk and think. Our unconscious mind believes whatever story we tell ourselves. But, we have the power to change the lens we look through.   This episode I discuss:     How attachment theory can relate to money in different ways.  How most people have a scarcity mindset when thinking about money. What the consequences are if you don't grow up in a household where money is spoken about in a healthy way.  Questions you can ask yourself to reflect on your relationship with money.  That you can change the narrative you have created around money by changing the lens that you look through.    Let's stay connected:    My website: https://leissewilcox.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leisse-wilcox-197a31112/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leissewilcox/

How would earning 6 figures make you feel? Statistics show that only 25% of women who make this amount feel safe, secure and confident. Now I'm on a mission to boost this number. I'm one of the 9% who makes six figures, and I got to where I am while being a single parent and going through chemotherapy and an expensive divorce. For as long as I remember, I've been helping my clients increase their revenue. Even when women came to me to improve their relationship with themselves, they also increased their self-worth and net worth. And that's why I'm here — to help you close the gap between the two.    This episode I discuss:    What first got me interested in teaching women about money.  What my own journey was like as a six figure business owner.  How everyone I work with increases their revenue, even if they don't come to me for business coaching.  The importance of healing our past.    Let's stay connected:    My website: https://leissewilcox.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leisse-wilcox-197a31112/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leissewilcox/

Today I am sharing an incredible conversation that I had the privilege of having with Sarah Edmundson. Sarah is a talented actress with a radiant smile and natural charm. She has an exceptionally diverse portfolio of interests, and dedicates herself with limitless energy and positivity to the worlds of acting and yoga. In 2005, when NXIVM, a personal and professional development company, promised to provide the tools and insight Sarah needed to reach her potential, she was intrigued. Over her twelve-year tenure, she went from student to coach and eventually operated her own NXIVM center in Vancouver. Questions kept coming up about the organization’s rules and practices, which came to a head in 2017 when she accepted an invitation from her best friend to join DOS, a “secret sisterhood” within NXIVM. In 2019, Sarah published Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult that Bound My Life, with Kristine Gasbarre. In this tell-all memoir, she shares her story from the moment she takes her first seminar to her harrowing fight to get out of NXIVM, collaborate with the FBI, help others, and heal. "Too often we are conditioned to feel the need to be in constant competition. There's a misguided perception that being who we are, AS we are, in business, life and love won't be enough until we prove we are better than someone else and maybe not even then."   The myth around competition is a topic I have spoken on before and one that I feel is extremely important, I wrote a chapter all about it in my book, To Call Myself Beloved. So for today's episode I decided to read this actual chapter to you, not just because I am so excited for my book baby to be born, but because I am so passionate about this topic.   I get pretty fired up in this one everyone.  I touch on some really key points, such as: The root of where our intense need to compete with others actually comes from Why the phrase "collaboration over competition" being used on social media makes me nauseous and feel a whole lot of swear words. How competition all stems back to doing the work on loving YOURSELF, accepting yourself, and not seeking outward approval when you are winning. It's basically the user's manual on how to understand your own mind, how it works, and specifically how to reprogram it if what you believe to be true is unhealthy or toxic. So despite the heaviness of this episode's title, this podcast contains super valuable information into your life in general, but specifically for your life right now as you might be feeling like ‘What the fuck is happening and what do I do about it?’. In today's Episode we're going to talk about: How we have become complicit bystanders when it comes to witnessing the gross injustice called "racism" How to unpack and unlearn years and years of deep-rooted biased planted in our brains How to do the work, how to unlearn the old programming, and create new beliefs that translate into new behaviors that will allow your mind to start actually seeing in your conscious reality.   Have questions? And so are you.  Today we’re talking all about Motherhood...the transition into that role, the identity crisis it can create for women, and also the beauty found within raising children.  So much of our motherhood journey is spent introducing ourselves as “so and so’s mom” and we begin to lose pieces of ourselves until one day we wake up and think “Holy shit! Where am I? How did I get here?” What if we could be a mother, and a wife, and a friend, and someone’s boss, a bad ass business owner, without ever losing who we actually are in the process? In this episode you'll learn: What this often unspoken “crisis” is How it affects each aspect of your life How to navigate - and heal - from this Happy Mother’s day mama; let’s have a listen and then go get some tacos! Love isn’t blind, but it is an energy. It doesn’t require the co-dependent dynamic of someone being rescued, it invites the best version of two people to come forward and grow together. It isn’t conflict averse, it fosters communication through challenge and adversity. It doesn’t make anyone happy who isn’t happy already, it amplifies our natural ability to be happy in the moment, with each of us being responsible for our own emotions. What It Actually Feels Like to Get Divorced

Divorce is THE single hardest experience of my life. For context: I lost my sister when she was 21, got breast cancer when I was 36, and six months ago I chose to completely remove my breasts as a preventative measure. So it’s safe to say “I’ve had some pretty hard experiences.”⁣ ⁣And still, divorce is - BY FAR - the hardest. ⁣ ⁣Divorce is a lot like herpes; it feels like the “gift” that keeps on giving. Just when you think “oh thank God it’s over. I can breathe again,” nope.

Oh yes, you read that title right. I know what you're thinking - "Leisse, aren't YOU a female empowerment brand? Isn't this kind of the dumbest move you could make?" Yes, I am sure am, in the most genuine of ways. And while I did delay sharing this episode by three weeks, because of my own fears of releasing this level of truth into the world, I stand behind it as coming from an honest, informed place. Here's the hard truth: while there are many, MANY female empowerment brands and thought leaders showing up in our online and IRL worlds, there are many others who have figured out a way to juke the system, sell us a dream that isn't really attainable - or even HEALTHY - and do so while capitalizing on the fears and insecurities of the audience they claim to serve. And I am over it. Join me today as I shed some light on the buyer beware nature on the content you're consuming, and why not all "female empowerment brands" are created equal. Talk is cheap, sunshine, and authenticity - not the "TM" kind - is what gets you to the heart of hearts. Enjoy, and if you haven't already, check out YES, YOU FUCKING CAN, the group coaching program I'm launching now for a January start - that adheres to alllll of the principles I lay out in this podcast. The Paradox of Positivity

Today I’m talking about one of my FAVOURITE subjects: the Paradox of Positivity. This is one of my keynotes, and for good reason.  How many times have you heard “just think positive. Believe it, and it will happen.” Yes, that’s true, but it’s only a tiny piece of the picture. Positive thinking is crucial - repeat CRUCIAL - to our emotional well being. But in order to experience legit positive thinking, you HAVE TO CONFRONT the negative emotions that are holding you back. And negative emotions come from negative beliefs held way down in the subconscious mind, often without us even knowing they’re there.  THAT is the paradox of Positivity: you have to FEEL the bad stuff, in order to name it, process it, and move the hell on. You have to feel it to heal it.  Like, subscribe, share, review, and post a photo of you listening, and tag me (@leissewilcox) on Instagram! I love to shout out to all the podcast love.
