About This Episode: What do we really know about our dads — and what have we never been able to say out loud? Taylor Trowbridge joins Phil to talk about her new solo show Dads, playing at the Toronto Fringe Festival. Part stand-up, part storytelling, part audience game, the show invites people to sit with the full range of their experiences with their fathers: the funny, the complicated, and the quietly unresolved. Taylor and Phil dig into the generational forces that shaped so many dads — wartime trauma, boomer expectations, the rigid masculinity that made emotional connection difficult — and how those patterns echo forward into all of us. Taylor also shares how her brother Dylan is directing the show, why the family collaboration just makes sense, and what it was like to turn questions about her own dad into a piece of theatre. This episode explores: What Dads is — and why Taylor wanted to build a show around audience interaction, games, and stand-up The generational and emotional weight fathers carry, and how masculinity shapes the father-child relationship Working with her brother Dylan Trowbridge as director, and why no chemistry test was needed Tool for Rebellion: Taylor's verbatim theatre piece on incel culture, the Toronto van attack, and the limits of empathy And much more! Jason Mewes joins Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to talk about Five Things with Jay Mewes, his new YouTube series that turns celebrity interviews into a hangout inside a convenience store. In this conversation, Mewes opens up about why the show feels like the perfect full-circle project after Clerks, how the format brings out unexpected stories from guests, and why his episode with Kevin Smith revealed stories even he had never heard before. Mewes also talks about becoming part of the Murdoch Mysteries universe, his love for comfort shows like Psych and Monk, and why he would still love to see Jay and Silent Bob enter Fortnite. He even shows off his gaming setup while discussing Call of Duty, Chronic Blunt Punch, and the fan campaign to get Jay and Silent Bob skins into the game. The conversation also gets personal as Mewes reflects on recovery, nearly 16 years of sobriety, and the fans who tell him his openness helped them through their own journeys. Plus, he teases the future of Jay and Silent Bob, including Kevin Smith's already-written Jay and Silent Bob's Star Wars script and hopes for another big-screen reunion.Visit Nerdtropolis.comFacebook.com/nerdtropolisInstagram.com/nerdtropolisTwitter.com/nerdtropolisTikTok.com/@nerdtropolis
Send us Fan MailWorld's collide as the talky half of Jay and Silent Bob meets Murdoch Mysteries. Yes, it turns out that Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith's pal since Clerks, is a superfan of the CBC historical whodunnit Murdoch Mysteries. He was turned on to the series by his buddy, Matt Goehring. Mewes binged 18 seasons and 300 episodes in six months. All caught up, he and Matt have teamed with Shaftesbury on The Murdoch Mysteries Podscast, which drops every Monday.Hey, I know the value of talking to Murdoch's main players. Yannick Bisson is still the reining champ here at brioux.tv: the podcast in terms of total downloads. Mewes nabbed a part on the series (as Slipperly Bill Watson) and he and Matt just teamed up on a May the 4th episode with the latest Murdoch recruit, Paul Sun Hyung Lee (Inspector Choi). And, yes, I'm jealous of all the great graphics and other visuals on their podcast. So listen to them here first, before you go off and binge their podcast, okay?
Today we are joined with Christina Orjalo for a behind the scenes look into Deathstalker! From appearing in The Big Comfy Couch, Murdoch Mysteries, Schitt's Creek and much more, she gives us an introspective look into living in the world of arts and entertainment. (Deathstalker is now streaming on SHUDDER!)
We would love to hear from you. Send us your thoughts or suggestions. A piano appears in the park. Nobody knows who put it there. And somehow this turns into one of the best Hallmark movies of 2026.This week we're reviewing A Little Park Music starring Lacey J. Malley and Beau Mirchoff. When a mysterious piano shows up in the town gazebo and interferes with city business, uptight City Manager Ali is forced to team up with by-the-book rookie cop Ryan to get rid of it — only to discover that music, and love, are a lot harder to remove than either of them planned. We break down why the leads absolutely crushed their roles, the surprisingly layered writing that actually explains WHY these characters are the way they are (a rare Hallmark treat), the stakeout scene in the back of the pickup truck that had us completely charmed, and the little piano mystery woven through the whole movie that we didn't see coming. We also have a full yoga corner moment — Andrea has thoughts on that instructor. IRC breaks down why Beau Mirchoff keeps showing up in Hallmark movies and consistently delivering.Plus — IRC is fully hooked on Frankie Drake Mysteries (despite having strong feelings about the hair change in Season 2), Andrea is loving All Creatures Great and Small, and we have a whole conversation about Murdoch Mysteries being edited on Hallmark Plus in ways that are… noticeable.⭐⭐⭐⭐½ Andrea: 4.5 Stars | ⭐ IRC: Loved itChaptersCalculated from transcript at 184.5 wpm against actual runtime of 20:35.0:00 — Welcome to Hallmark Mysteries and More1:03 — What We've Been Watching: All Creatures Great & Small2:46 — Frankie Drake Mysteries & Murdoch Edited on Hallmark Plus5:45 — A Little Park Music — Plot Overview6:05 — Andrea's Review: 4.5 Stars8:31 — IRC's Review: Endearing Leads & Small-Town Setting12:25 — What We Didn't Like (Spoiler: Nothing)12:35 — Standout Scenes: The Yoga Class & Beau Mirchoff's Understated Charm16:22 — Romance: Believable Chemistry & the Stakeout Scene18:52 — Similar Movie Recommendations20:13 — Next Week: To Philly with Love & OutroMovies & Shows MentionedHaunted Harmony — little mystery + music, recommended if you want more of bothSummer of Dreams (2016) — Pascale Hutton, Robert Gant & Debbie Gibson; former pop star + small-town music teacherThe Way to You — IRC's pick; unique and charming earlier 2026 HallmarkHidden Gems — Beau Mirchoff's first Hallmark appearance discussedFinish Line — Beau Mirchoff's second Hallmark appearance discussedAll Creatures Great and Small (PBS) — Andrea's current evening pleasure watchFrankie Drake Mysteries (Hallmark Plus) — IRC's current obsessionTags#ALittleParkMusic #HallmarkReview #HallmarkMovies #HallmarkChannel #LaceyJMalley #BeauMirchoff #HallmarkMysteriesAndMore #HallmarkPodcast #CozyTV #SpringMovies #HallmarkRomance #FrankieDrakeMysteriesFollow us on social media: Instagram and TikTok: @hallmarkmysteriesandmoreYoutubeOr visit our website. We would love to hear from you. Send us your thoughts or suggestions. Eric and Andrea review A Royal Setting starring Jen Lilley and Dan Jeannotte, and this one didn't land. Despite two charming leads and an entertaining supporting cast, A Royal Setting checks every single royal movie box without bringing anything new to the table. Fake country, questionable accent, overbearing royal assistant, commoner gets sent away, commoner comes back. You've seen it before. You'll see it again. The highlight? The royal guard (Fred/George, as Andrea dubbed him), who stole every scene he was in. Jen Lilley brings her usual energy and charm, and the Xander/Jory friendship was a pleasant surprise, but the script never gives any of them enough to work with. Andrea gave it two stars, and Eric wasn't far behind. If you love royal Hallmark movies, this might still work for you. For everyone else, it's a tough sit.Plus: all the May 2026 Hallmark movie announcements, Mystery 101 April Fools chaos, Hannah Swensen and True Justice updates, and the Murdoch Mysteries streaming controversy.Follow us on social media: Instagram and TikTok: @hallmarkmysteriesandmoreYoutubeOr visit our website. Twice. With the series winding down its 19th season, Drennan looks back at her career as the head of makeup on the CBC hit series. She also hints that the season finale, set for Monday, April 13, sets up a nail-biter of a cliffhanger. Before Murdoch, Drennan worked on several Canadian favourites, including Dragon's Den, Bomb Girls (which she co-created), This is Wonderland, and Due South. Send us a textOne actor/comedian I have had on my most sought-after list since this venture began in 2019 is my guest this week on brioux.tv: the podcast. Jonny Harris just happens to be a busy guy, working two CBC series at once. On Murdoch Mysteries, now in its 19th season, his character Constable Crabtree has been a fan favourite since the very beginning. His own series, Still Standing, starts its 11th season this Tuesday with Harris visiting the remote, desert-like terrain of the Osoyoos Indian Band in southern British Columbia. At a time when all of Canada has its elbows up, Harris brings his folksy, community-first approach to towns across Canada trying to rebound from tough times. He visits St. Thomas, Ont., once a thriving auto centre. He heads to Acton, Ont., once worth the drive to visit the now defunct leather tannery.Harris gets the entire town out for these TV showcases, and spreads good cheer and positive stories of rebirth. Along the way, he's not above getting an elephant shaved into the back of his head. Murdoch Mysteries continues Mondays; Still Standing returns Tuesday, Jan. 6. Both are on CBC and CBC Gem.
STRAIGHT GUYS REACT To This Heartfelt & Touching Premiere!! Heated Rivalry Full Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Gift Someone (Or Yourself) An RR Tee! https://shorturl.at/hekk2 With Greg & John wrapped for the season, Aaron & Andrew take the ice to give their Heated Rivalry Reaction, Recap, Analysis, Breakdown, & Spoiler Review!! Aaron Alexander & Andrew Gordon react to Episodes 1 & 2 of Heated Rivalry, the Crave / HBO sports romance series adapted from Rachel Reid's bestselling novel. The premiere episodes set the foundation for the show's central tensions—rivalry, attraction, secrecy, and ambition—inside the high-pressure world of professional hockey. Episodes 1 and 2 introduce fierce on-ice rivals Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams – Bel-Air, Holly Hobbie), the disciplined Canadian golden boy, and Ilya Rosanov (Connor Storrie – Slasher, The Porter), the brash, unpredictable Russian superstar. Their first encounters establish a combustible mix of competition and undeniable chemistry that quickly blurs professional boundaries. As their rivalry intensifies across games, media attention, and locker-room encounters, both men begin navigating secret hookups that complicate their careers and personal identities. The opening episodes also begin expanding the series' emotional scope beyond Shane and Ilya. Scott Hunter (François Arnaud – Midnight, Texas, Blindspot) is positioned as the league's polished star and public ideal, while Kip (Robbie G.K. – Departure, Murdoch Mysteries) enters the story as an outsider whose presence will eventually challenge hockey's culture of silence. Together, these storylines establish Heated Rivalry as more than a romance—framing it as a character-driven exploration of masculinity, ambition, and what it costs to hide who you are. Highly discussed moments from the premiere include the charged first clashes between Shane and Ilya, the contrast between public bravado and private vulnerability, and the early signals that this rivalry is headed somewhere far more dangerous—and intimate—than either man expects. Featuring: J. TIMOTHY HUNT — Award-Winning Author • Screenwriter • Journalist • Survivor • Memory Explorer Memory, Trauma, and the Unreliable Truth We Carry When memory fractures, storytelling becomes survival. Miss Liz doesn't serve a beverage; she serves real-life changemakers. She serves J. Timothy Hunt, an award-winning American/Canadian journalist, screenwriter, novelist, children's author, actor, and trauma survivor whose life journey reads like a film script raw, riveting, and deeply human. Born in Los Angeles and raised in California and Montana, Timothy's life has been shaped by childhood abuse, bullying, eating disorders, and a turbulent relationship with a mother who attempted to erase his memories. His newest novel, The Museum of Lies, is a psychological thriller exploring how memory fails, protects, distorts, and sometimes betrays us.The story follows Cary Scott, whose traumatic childhood memories are dismantled by a manipulative therapist, forcing readers to ask: What is truth when memory can't be trusted?Timothy is twice nominated for Canada's Governor General's Award, a four-time nominee for the National Magazine Award, and a winner of multiple distinguished writing prizes. His nonfiction book The Politics of Bones was named one of The Globe and Mail's Best Books of the Year. A graduate of AMDA (NYC) and holder of a master's degree in screenwriting from Staffordshire University, he has worked on major productions including Schitt's Creek, Orphan Black, Anne With an E, and Murdoch Mysteries. Under the pen name Tim Beiser, he is also an acclaimed children's author. Timothy splits his life between Toronto, Canada, and Grignan, France, with his husband of 30 years and their twin sons. Miss Liz pours a cup of truth, memory, and survivorship with J. Timothy Hunt, a writer whose life has navigated darkness, brilliance, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of understanding the human mind. Born in Los Angeles, shaped in New York City, and living in Toronto for nearly three decades, Timothy's story begins in trauma and transforms into art. A survivor of childhood abuse, bullying, and bulimia, he has spent a lifetime reconstructing memory both through truth and through necessity. Timothy is an award-winning journalist, novelist, children's author, screenwriter, actor, and storyteller. He has written for major Canadian publications, earned multiple national awards, and worked on landmark television productions including Schitt's Creek, Orphan Black, and Anne With an E.His newest novel, The Museum of Lies, is a psychological labyrinth exploring memory's fallibility, asking us what happens when the truth we rely on dissolves… and we must invent a new one to survive. Tonight, we explore trauma, resilience, writing, identity, memory, and the stories we create to endure what was once unbearable. What an unforgettable, deeply introspective Teatime with J. Timothy Hunt, a conversation that travelled through memory, trauma, creativity, and the art of turning survival into story.Tonight, Timothy reminded us that the mind protects us in strange and complex ways, that truth isn't always clear, and that healing often requires rewriting the narrative to reclaim our power. His journey from child abuse survivor to award-winning author and screenwriter shows the resilience of the human spirit and the purpose that can arise from pain. His insights on writing, memory distortion, satire, trauma, and truth brought depth and brilliance to the Teatime table. J. Timothy Hunt is an award-winning journalist, novelist, children's author, and screenwriter. Twice nominated for Canada's Governor General's Award, he has written nine books and worked on major TV productions. His latest novel, The Museum of Lies, explores trauma, memory, and the truths we create to survive.“Memory, Trauma, and The Museum of Lies”#TeatimeWithMissLiz#JTimothyHunt#MuseumOfLies#MemoryAndTruth#TraumaSurvivorStory

For years, TV writer Patrick Tarr has been writing scripts for shows like “Murdoch Mysteries,” “Cardinal” and “Saving Hope” — but his dream was always to write a book. Now, that dream has become a reality. Patrick's debut novel, “The Guest Children,” is a chilling supernatural tale inspired by real-life history: the evacuation of 6,000 British children to Canada during the Second World War. He joins guest host Gill Deacon to talk about reframing these events as a ghost story.
I'm joined by some of the most talented and hilarious bunch for The Dolls Takeover! Nikki Duval talks Workin' Moms and "Ashley", Clare McDonnell talks Murdoch Mysteries and handling a prop weapon on Twisted Metal, and Dan Beirne talks directing and his "Jeremy" scenes. On the Saturday August 16, 2025 episode of The Richard Crouse Show we meet Patrick Tarr. He has over a decade of experience in the film and television world in Canada—currently he is the co-executive producer and writer of CBC’s “Saint-Pierre,” and he was the head writer and executive producer on CTV’s “Cardinal.” He’s also written for Saving Hope, Nurses, Cracked and The Colony, as well as Canadian institution Murdoch Mysteries to name a few. Today we’ll talk about his television work, but I also want to tell you about his debut novel, “The Guest Children,” which is now available wherever you buy fine books. The book was inspired by the real-life thousands of “guest children,” British children who were sent to Canada during WWII to stay safe from the bombings. Then, I don’t know if you’ve been watching the Billy Joel documentary on Crave called “And So It Goes.” It’s a fascinating and revealing two part look at the life and music of the “Just the Way You Are” singer, exploring love, loss and struggles that contributed to his songwriting. As a companion to those documentaries, I dug into the archive and found an intercview I did a few years ago with Liberty DeVitto. As Billy Joel’s drummer from 1976 to 2003, he’s credited as drummer on records with sales of over 150 million copies. Do you love “Just the Way You Are”? That Liberty DeVitto. How about "She's Always a Woman,” “Only the Good Die Young" “You May be Right” or “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me”? All Liberty DeVitto. He’s what they call a New York City style drummer, solid and powerful. He also an author with a memoir called, “Liberty: Life, Billy and the Pursuit of Happiness,” available wherever you buy fine books. It details not only the good times with Joel, but also the bad… leading up to their split in 2006. Today, I chose some excerpts from the interview to share an insider’s view of what it was like working with Billy Joel as he became a superstar. Finally, I love going to live theatre, but I recently had a chance to experience it in a different way. “Back to the Future: The Musical” is now playing at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto, and I was invited to not only see the show, but to visit the theatre, on stage and backstage, to chat with the show’s stars, DAVID JOSEFSBERG who plays Doc Brown and LUCAS v who brings Marty McFly to vivid life. The show is based on the iconic 1985 movie “Back to the Future,” and sees Marty McFly accidentally change the course of history when he is transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown. He’s in a race against time to fix the present, escape the past, and send himself... back to the future.

On the Saturday July 12, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we'll meet Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. You know the Canadian Screen Award winner as family patriarch Appa on “Kim's Convenience,” and as Inspector Albert Choi, the new head of Station House No 4, on “Murdoch Mysteries” and as Captain Carson Teva on the Star War series “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka.” We'll also meet a guest who began his career as a child actor, appearing in everything from “Back tio the Future II” to Internal Affairs opposite Richard Gere. He became an international star after playing Frodo Baggins in the acclaimed “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. He's Elijah Wood, and his extensive filmography now includes “Bookworm,” an intriguing film about a 12-year-old named Mildred whose life is turned upside down when her mother lands in hospital and estranged, American magician father, Strawn Wise, played by Elijah Wood, comes to look after her. Hoping to entertain the bookish tween, Strawn takes Mildred camping in the notoriously rugged New Zealand wilderness, and the pair embark on the ultimate test of family bonding — a quest to find the mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther. Then, we spend time with Gabrielle Drolet, a journalist, essayist, and cartoonist based in Montreal. She regularly contributes cartoons to The New Yorker and the Globe and Mail and is the first woman to receive a National Newspaper Award nomination for Editorial Cartooning. In 2020, she developed a condition that made her unable to use her hands. It only worsened over time, and as a writer and artist, she had to learn new ways of creating and expressing herself. She placed her first cartoon in The New Yorker—and then was unable to draw for a full year. She has since found ways around this using graphic design software, exercises, and many, many breaks, but the experience has completely changed her life. She writes about her experiences in her new book, “Look Ma, No Hands: A Chronic Pain Memoir,” an often funny but profound book on chronic pain, accessibility, and young adulthood.
