After landing her dream job on the TODAY Show and establishing herself as a well-respected anchor, Tamron Hall was replaced and offered a diminished role with the network. Undeterred, she chose to bet on herself, walking away to write her next chapter on her own terms. Today, she hosts the acclaimed talk show "Tamron Hall," now in its fifth season, captivating audiences with her fresh, relatable voice and insightful interviews with changemakers. As an Emmy Award-winning journalist, Tamron's career includes hosting the third hour of TODAY, anchoring MSNBC Live, and hosting Court TV's original true-crime series, “Someone They Knew With Tamron Hall.” She is also a successful author, known for her “Jordan Manning” mystery series, with her second book, Watch Where They Hide, recently released. In our conversation, Tamron shares lessons on knowing your value, having the courage to leave situations that no longer serve you, and the transformative power of betting on yourself.
In conversation with Tamala Edwards, anchor, 6abc Action News morning edition. Tamron Hall is the Emmy Award-winning host and executive producer of the eponymous program Tamron Hall, ABC Disney's second longest running nationally syndicated talk show. Also the host of Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall on Investigation Discovery, she formerly served as an anchor for Today, the host of MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall, and a national news correspondent for NBC. While at NBC, she earned a 2015 Edward R. Murrow Award for her reportage on domestic abuse. Hall also partnered with Safe Horizon to launch The Tamron Renate Fund, which aids victims and families affected by domestic violence. A sequel to her 2022 bestselling crime fiction novel As the Wicked Watch, Watch Where They Hide follows intrepid journalist Jordan Manning as she uncovers the truth about a missing young mother. Admittedly, I don't read a ton of fiction, but one fictional character I deeply enjoy is that of Jordan Manning, born from the mind of Tamron Hall, one of my favorite journalists. Tamron dipped her toe into writing novels with the publication of her debut work of fiction, As the Wicked Watch, back in October 2021. Now, today, March 12, book two in the Jordan Manning series is out, and it's a great sophomore effort: Watch Where They Hide, another delicious hit of crime fiction. By the way, Tamron addresses in our conversation whether there will be a third Jordan Manning book and…I'm just going to let her tell you. As our Women in Power series continues, Tamron is certainly among the most powerful women in journalism. Since September 2019, she has hosted her eponymous talk show, The Tamron Hall Show, to much success including two Daytime Emmy Awards. Prior to hosting her own talk show, Tamron was a national news correspondent for NBC News, a daytime anchor for MSNBC, host of the show MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall, and a co-host of the third hour of the Today Show. Tamron's new book, Watch Where They Hide, touches on domestic violence—a subject that, through her sister, Tamron knows all too well, unfortunately. In 2004, Tamron's sister Renate was murdered after experiencing domestic violence. Though police officers originally informed Tamron's family of their belief that they knew who murdered Renate, that person was never charged, and the case remains unsolved today. Tamron has made domestic violence awareness and ending domestic violence a cornerstone of her life since, and domestic violence is a part of the story of Marla Hancock in Watch Where They Hide. In the book Marla, a stay-at-home mother, disappears not long after leaving her abusive husband and moving to Indiana with her sister, Shelly, who knows Marla would never leave without bringing her kids with her. Shelly fears that Marla's disappearance won't get the attention it deserves, or worse, will go unsolved—see the parallels here?—so, a few weeks after filing a missing person's report, she enlists the help of TV journalist Jordan Manning, and the twist and turns from there will keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus, stick around after our conversation for two more upcoming television shows based on books to look out for, as well as 11 fiction writers I can't get enough of. ABOUT TAMRON HALL AND HER BOOK WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE: A Jordan Manning NovelWATCH WHERE THEY HIDE is the upcoming new novel from Emmy Award-winning TV host and journalist, Tamron Hall.An impressive follow-up to her acclaimed 2021 debut, As the Wicked Watch, Hall's forthcoming novel follows the gripping journey of journalist, Jordan Manning, who delves into the case of a mother in danger and uncovers a sinister web of secrets that could lead right to the missing woman-or put Jordan in the crosshairs of her abductors. With over 20 years of journalism experience, years spent reporting on crime and tragedies across the country, and her own personal experiences, Tamron is in the perfect position to pen this page-turning thriller.ABOUT THE BOOK: After dropping her child off at preschool, Marla Hancock, a stay-at-home mother, disappears. She had recently left her verbally abusive husband in Kentucky and moved in with her sister, Shelly, who simply can't believe that her sister would ever willingly vanish without her children. But with limited support from the town's police department or media resources, Shelly fears that Marla's disappearance won't get the attention it deserves, or worse, will go unsolved. So, several weeks after filing a missing person's report, she reaches out to TV journalist Jordan Manning for help. After her investigative and reporting skills helped solve multiple murders, Jordan Manning's career in the newsroom is on the rise. She has gained a reputation as more than your typical news reporter: a "fixer" with a vigilante edge, dogged and undeterred to seek the truth. But even with this new status, Jordan still feels pressure to prove herself as a young Black professional. When Shelly reaches out, she feels compelled to do all she can to find Marla. Jordan's search twists and turns in ways she could never have imagined, illuminating scandals and secrets that place her own life in grave danger.TAMRON HALL BIOTwo-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and author Tamron Hall is Executive Producer and host of the nationally syndicated talk show Tamron Hall. A career in television journalism can be fraught with burnout, impostor syndrome and publicly aired stumbles. Especially in one of the craziest news eras America has ever seen, it is almost impossible to remain calm among the fury of stories to follow and the demanding and roles and responsibilities of the news industry. MSNBC anchor and New York Times bestselling author Katy Tur knows precisely what difficulties come from a life chasing news stories. Though she gained popularity covering then-candidate Donald Trump in 2015 and 2016, her newest release Rough Draft details the early years of her life as the daughter of two groundbreaking helicopter journalists in Los Angeles leading up to her own breakout career as a reporter. She explores the gift and curse of family legacy and for the first time, opens up about her complicated relationship with her parents. She also takes readers behind the desk to reveal what it is like to report during a time of massive chaos, disinformation and extremism, and she shares how she navigated the unprecedented and embraced the moment. Join INFORUM live in San Francisco for an intimate conversation with MSNBC's Katy Tur as she brings us inside her riveting life in TV news. As a nurse, you never truly understand the level of terror your patients are experiencing until you become one yourself. New York Times best-selling author Theresa Brown, RN, shares her breast cancer treatment journey along with details about her new book, “Healing.” Diagnosed with breast cancer in fall of 2017, Theresa underwent a lumpectomy and four weeks of radiation before starting Tamoxifen, which ruined her life for three and a half years before she quit. With our Season 2 Breast Cancer Stories co-host Natasha Curry, we uncover similarities and surprising differences in treatment as nurses-turned-patients. We were shocked to discover that like Kristen and Natasha, Theresa's breast cancer was missed by mammography and was only discovered because she was participating in a study in which women also received an ultrasound to see if it gave better diagnostic results. Theresa has been a contributor to the New York Times, and her words can be found on CNN.com, in the American Journal of Nursing, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She's also been a guest on MSNBC Live and NPR's “Fresh Air.” She received her PhD in English from the University of Chicago. Theresa lectures nationally and internationally on issues related to nursing, healthcare, and end of life. Today I speak with Chimere Smith, writer and activist on behalf of Black women in America with Long COVID. Chimére L. Smith is a writer and thought leader who has appeared on MSNBC Live with Craig Melvin, The Washington Post, Medium, and on PBS NewsHour. Since June 2020, she has used her social media platforms, engagement in grass-root Covid-19 support groups (notably Body Politic and BIPOC Women Long Covid “Long Hauler” Support Group), and strong media presence to raise awareness about the importance of Black voices in conversations on the prevention, treatment, and research of Long Covid in urban communities. In December 2020, she was a featured patient-led panelist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) workshop on Post-Acute Covid. Chimére is an independent member of The Long Covid Alliance and a recently-appointed board member of Body Politic. In April 2021, Smith was praised for her heart-wrenching and brazen testimony during a bipartisan Congressional hearing on Long Covid after becoming the first Black woman to detail her Long Covid experience.
Tamron Hall is the ultimate utility player, a brand new author and the master of the pivot. It's not easy to transition between serious breaking news and lifestyle segments on a TV show. But Tamron found a new niche in daytime TV after a nearly 30-year career in news. Tamron got her start working in local news in Dallas and Chicago. Then she spent 20 years at NBC News hosting the third hour of the "Today" show and anchoring "MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall." She has also hosted "Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall" on Investigation Discovery since September 2013. Tamron left NBC News to launch the "Tamron Hall Show" in 2019. Then came the pandemic, working from home and a near-daily pivot to create daytime television relevant for an ever-changing audience. Season 3 of the "Tamron Hall Show" is underway and this season's guests are a reflection of the challenges the host and her viewers are facing in the fall of 2021. Also, Tamron wrote her first fiction book during lockdown. "As the Wicked Watch: The First Jordan Manning Novel" is inspired by real-life crimes she covered early in her career that never left her mind. On this Dying to Ask: What Tamron figured out during the pandemic while working from home that changed how she approached Season 3 How to use your personal life experience to navigate changes at work because of the pandemic And the real-life inspiration behind Tamron's first work of fiction
As the dream of a “Hot Vax Summer” starts to look more and more like a Delta nightmare, Rieckhoff breaks down the historic, infuriating January 6th Congressional hearings. And, he rips into the haters attacking Olympic great Simon Biles' toughness and patriotism. And we're taking a look back to the very first days of the pandemic. It's a fan favorite and one of ours too. We flash back to March 5, 2020 and come to you from deep in the heart of the legendary NBC 30 Rock building in New York as Paul joined the MSNBC's dynamic Stephanie Ruhle—as she took a quick break from between news segments and the markets began to react to the news of the pandemic. They also dig into the presidential race at the time, traffic, parenthood, and Stephanie's unlikely path into a life in the media. And there may have been some tequila. If you've never heard this episode, you're in for a treat. And if you're a long time listener, you'll enjoy hearing this gem again. And she sharply analyzes the spectacular collapse of Mike Bloomberg's campaign from the perspective of someone who worked for him. This candid and fun conversation gives you insights into the mind and life of a charismatic leader who overcame tremendous adversity to rise to the top of business and political media. Uncensored and unscripted, the former homecoming queen, turned Wall Street derivatives trader, turned cable TV anchor, shares how she juggles work as a mother of three, the values her mother taught her that fuel her success, and why she loves tequila. I was really excited to sit down with Cenk from The Young Turks. He's one of the pre-eminent political voices online, and his TYT YouTube network is a mini empire on YouTube. I went to his office and studio in Culver City to speak to him on the podcast. They were kind enough to host me in their newly built studio, on The Young Turks set. What's remarkable about Cenk and his team, is how deep their community connection runs. In many ways, their community is an additional host and correspondent on the Young Turks Network. The Young Turks have a continual open dialogue with their audience and it's destroying the TV model of network filtered news. Cenk is building the next CNN, but better and much improved. We talk at length about their shows, political beliefs and the old networks and out-dated models in news and politics.
