He joined us for this conversation about the role of fitness in leader development and how leaders can enhance the performance culture of their organizations. MAJ Shawn Robertson is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He is married to his lovely wife, Maj Jordan Robertson (USAF) and they have three sons – Ezekiel (6), Ishvi (4), and Zachariah (2). Shawn was enlisted as an 88M before commissioning via the Green to Gold program through the University of Hawaii where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology. MAJ Robertson also holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University and a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. Upon completion of the Military Intelligence Basic Officer Leaders Course, he was assigned to the 173RD Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) at Vicenza, Italy. While there, he served as the Assistant Battalion Intelligence Officer for the 1st Battalion, 503RD Infantry Regiment (Airborne), HUMINT and SIGINT Platoon Leader in the Military Intelligence Company, and deployed with 1ST Battalion, 75TH Ranger Regiment as an individual augmentee in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel in Afghanistan, serving as one of the Deputy J2s. Following attendance at the Infantry Captain's Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Signals Intelligence/Electronic Warfare course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, MAJ Robertson was assigned to the National Security Agency, where he served as the Technical Production Operations Officer in the Army Technical Control and Analysis Element, and as the Bravo Company Commander, leading the National Security Agency's Special Operations Detachment in support of combat operations. In our episode with LTG Gilland a few weeks ago we mentioned Shawn "Big Tires Rollin'" Robertson as a future guest, and now he's here! Shawn is passionate about organizational psychology and developing leaders, but he's also incredibly fit (consistent ACFT 600s, 2nd place in the European bodybuilding championship). He joined us in this conversation to discuss how fitness fits into leadership development, and how leaders can improve the performance culture in their organizations. After completion of graduate school and the United States Military Academy's (USMA) Eisenhower Leader Development Program, MAJ Robertson served as the Tactical Officer for a Cadet Company, where he focused on leadership and character development. MAJ Robertson also served as the Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General and Superintendent of USMA. MAJ Robertson is now serving as a Commander in the United States Army Special Operations Command.

Sierra Leone's civil war lasted from 1991 until 2002.  It was marked by exceptional levels of cruelty and suffering.  During this civil war the United Nations, neighboring West African states, and the United Kingdom launched military interventions into Sierra Leone.  The United Kingdom's intervention was called Operation Palliser.  In September 2000 eleven British soldiers participating in Operation Palliser were captured by a militia gang known as the West Side Boys.  When it became clear negotiating with the West Side Boys was proving futile, the British decided to take military action to free their soldiers.  William Fowler's “Operation Barras” tells the story of what happened.

On today's Zero Limits Podcast I have a chat with Paul Warren former 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment infantry soldier.  Paul 'Warlord' Warren was an Australian Muay Thai kick-boxing champion who was used to the physically punishing world of martial arts at its highest level.  But nothing could prepare him for the torment he would face in the Australian army. One month after he arrived in Afghanistan as a soldier in the ADF, an IED exploded, tearing off his right leg and instantly killing his mate, Private Ben Ranaudo. It was 18 July 2009 and Ben was the campaign's eleventh fatality. After losing his leg and being discharged from the Army, Paul has experienced highs and lows that we all can learn from. Having to navigate a veteran system that was not equipt to support his needs, becoming captain for Australia in The Invictus Games Foundation, writing his book 'The Fighter' and being awarded the Prime Ministers Veteran Employment award for Rheinmetall Program.Support the show - https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=9LG48GC49TW38Website - www.zerolimitspodcast.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/zero.limits.podcast/?hl=en

Part 2 of our Memorial Day remembrance series brings us the story of the 2nd battle of Fallujah in November 2004. This battle was so big it had two operational names. Operation Phantom Fury and Operation Al-Fajr (the Dawn). The first battle was started in April of 2004 after the deaths of Blackwater security members. This operation was stopped to allow Iraq security forces to control the city. In the six months that followed multiple insurgent groups entered the city and made a stronghold. Civilians (Non-combatants) were told to evacuate as coalition forces numbering over 11,000 assembled around the city. This is where our next guest, a young Marine at the time was assembled. He was with his brothers in 1st Battalion 8th Marines waiting to go in on another of what they thought was a routine mission. That was until they realized the scope of it. These Marines went into the city fighting block to block in some of the most brutal urban fighting of the war in Iraq up till that time. For the next near month plus they fought not for themselves, but for their brothers on their sides. It was during this month that Christian Dominguez lost four Brothers he would never forget. The First one was LCPL Nate Anderson from Ohio on 12 November. The Second was LCPL William Miller from Texas on 14 November. The third and fourth happened during a house clearing operation on 19 November. They are LCPL Dimitrios Gavriel from New York and LCPL Demarkus Brown from Virginia. Christian Dominguez has continued to serve for the past 19 years. He began his career in the Marine Corps as an infantryman where he served as a point man for the Battle for Fallujah in 2004. He later transitioned into the National Guard as an intelligence Warrant Officer. Christian has completed 3 combat tours and multiple humanitarian assistance missions. https://www.themisfitnation.com https://fans.truefanz.com/RichLaMonica https://youtu.be/irZr8FjLP2Y --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/richard-lamonica/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/richard-lamonica/support

He brings a perspective and understanding to these stories that we could never match. This week he told us about Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, From Stars and Stripes, "In May 2007, Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment patrolled Adhamiyah, a Sunni enclave in northeast Baghdad that was arguably the most dangerous neighborhood in Iraq. No battalion has seen more soldiers fall in a single deployment since Vietnam, and Charlie, with 13 lost, was the hardest-hit company in the battalion. When Charlie was pulled from Adhamiyah a few months later, it was replaced with an entire battalion augmented by a company and specialty platoons."
