Episode Summary: In this episode of 90 Miles from Needles: The Desert Protection Podcast, host Chris Clarke engages in a compelling conversation with author Josh Jackson about the significance of BLM lands in California. ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
Welcome to Season 13, Episode 12, of the ParentingAces Podcast, a proud member of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. This week, we bring you something a little different! For the past 3 weeks, Lisa has been on site at a variety of junior tournaments. She finishes her stint at the prestigious Easter Bowl in the California Desert. While there, Lisa had the opportunity to record conversations with Colette Lewis of ZooTennis; Boys 12s player, Rex Kulman; Junior Developmental Coach, JY Aubone; and Junior Developmental Coach and owner of Austin Tennis Academy, Jack Newman. Since these conversations were done live and in person, and since Lisa's editing skills still leave a lot to be desired (!), this episode may look and sound a bit different from what you usually get from us. That said, we hope you'll check out the video version on ParentingAces.com for the full Easter Bowl vibe! If you're so inclined, please share this – and all our episodes! – with your fellow tennis players, parents, and coaches. In January 2024, six people were murdered in a remote part of San Bernardino County, California. Four of the bodies were burned. Days later, the San Bernardino County Sheriff said the murders were related to the black-market marijuana trade. In 2020, there was a seven-person homicide at an unlicensed marijuana cultivation site in Riverside County, California. When Californians voted to legalize and regulate marijuana in California in 2016, the legislation was touted as the “gold standard” and a model the nation would soon be following. Eight years later it's become a cautionary tale of crime, violence, unkept promises, and environmental destruction. The black-market controls approximately 90% of the California marijuana trade and the spill-over has hampered the attempts of other states to legalize. On this episode of the Truth Nation Podcast, retired California Highway Patrol Chief Mark Garrett and Retired DEA Special Agent in Charge Bill Bodner discuss what went wrong with marijuana legalization in California. Was it about regulated, taxed and tested marijuana or in reality, was it just an attempt at social justice reform? Does it make sense that California treats moonshine and unlicensed liquor trafficking as a felony but cultivation of 100,000 marijuana plants as a misdemeanor? What role does the federal governments' inaction on marijuana over the past 15 years play? Will de-scheduling or rescheduling make the situation better or worse? Tune in and hear the truth.

In 1905, Colorado River floodwaters created one of the largest lakes in the United States: the Salton Sea.Now, more than 100 years later, the lake is shrinking, and has become one of the most polluted bodies of water in the US. But the area is also poised to become the largest lithium mine in the country—to be used by GM, Tesla, and Ford to manufacture their electric vehicles. Still, there's an inherent tension between mining heavy metals—often a dirty, high-pollution process, for environmentally beneficial purposes. In this episode, we explore the future of energy production, how boom and bust cycles affect cities and communities, and the often overlooked environmental considerations that roil the development of green infrastructure.Special thanks to Donna Burns Kennedy, Audrey Carleton, Michael McKibben, and Roy Durantes. For a transcript of this episode, visit press.stripe.com/salton-sea-transcriptFor more on Beneath the Surface, visit press.stripe.com/beneath-the-surfaceFollow Stripe Press on Twitter @stripepress
