This week's episode feature Robert Kerman, Master Sergeant (USMC Retired). I am super excited to share this episode with you due to the impact young Lance Corporal Kerman, had on me and subsequently my squad in Third Battalion Second Marines. When we were in our final exercise prior to pushing out on deployment, I pulled one of the more recent Silver Star Citations I could find. I wanted to inspire my younger Marines and make them realize that the junior enlisted Marines were taking the fight to the enemy.  The citation reads as follows, KERMAN, ROBERT P. Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Robert P. Kerman, Lance Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Rifleman, Combined Anti-Armor Platoon, Weapons Company, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, on 25 March 2003, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Lance Corporal Kerman exhibited exceptional bravery when the lead elements of the battalion were ambushed with mortars, rocket-propelled grenades, and automatic weapons fire. As the vehicle he was traveling in drove directly into machine gun fire and into a trench line, Lance Corporal Kerman sprang from the vehicle and began assaulting down the enemy-occupied trench with two other Marines. As enemy soldiers fired at him, he fearlessly plunged towards them firing his M-16 with lethal accuracy. Continuing to move through the trench he repeatedly came under enemy fire. Each time he would calmly occupy a steady firing position and take well-aimed shots that had devastating effects on the enemy. As the group ran out of ammunition, they pressed forward 200 to 300 meters utilizing captured enemy AK- 47s. Lance Corporal Kerman showed no regard for his own personal safety, and his actions directly contributed to the successful outcome of the engagement. By his bold leadership, wise judgment, and complete dedication to duty, Lance Corporal Kerman reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.  18 years later, I met Robert Kerman at the Post 9983 VFW in Holly Ridge while shooting with some buddies of mine. The introduction was anti-climactic for everyone but me, we all shot and had a great time. I was honored to attend his retirement last month on Camp Lejeune and have been looking forward to bringing you all this story.

This podcast is by far the most intense and incredible that I've recorded to date.  I had no idea about Mike's story when we sat down, but I quickly realized Mike's life has been incredible.  Mike Clancy served as a Force Recon Marine for 8 years and GRS (global response staff) for 4 years.  He did 13 total tours in Iraq and Afghanistan including the initial invasion into Iraq.  3 were combat tours as a Marine, and 10 were tours working for the CIA.  On the podcast Mike talks about the invasion and how quiet it was until all of a sudden they were caught by surprise from an attack in which they sustained the first casualty of the war.  From there Mike shares how intense the fighting was and how hard the conditions were.  In addition to his amazing and difficult time as a Marine, Mike's childhood and homelife was even more chaotic.  Mike grew up in a home that was unstable to say the least.  He talks about his dad who was trafficking drugs, the number of times he moved, and his difficulties as a lanky white kid in mostly black gang areas.  After the war Mike was stuggling to find himself and find peace.   Amazingly Mike had the opportunity to purge his demons through several Ayahuasca ceremonies.  He talks a lot about how good this experience was for him and how beneficial it could be for anyone struggling with issues from their past.  Currently Mike works for Black Rifle Coffee, enjoys practicing Ju Jitsu, and hunting.  Mike is one of the nicest people I've met and I found his stories and life incredible.  Instagram@fancy_schmancy_clancywww.montanaknifecompany.comInstagram@montanaknifecompany@joshsmithknives

Neil Clark, journalist and broadcaster, joins us to discuss the anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq. Anti-war activists argue that the US should pay reparations to the people of Iraq after nearly two decades of misery and death set upon them by an illegal war. Also, ten years ago Julian Assange and WikiLeaks infuriated the US empire and its vassal states by releasing details of war crimes in Iraq. Today, Assange pays the price for exposing the moral decadence of US imperialism.Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo, professor at College of William and Mary and daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, joins us to discuss the coronavirus. The US is reopening fully as stimulus checks arrive, and the roads and stores are packed with spring shoppers. Also, the AstraZeneca vaccine is shown to have about 79% effectiveness against the coronavirus as investigations into the possibility of complications with blood clots continue. Scott Ritter, former UN weapon inspector in Iraq, joins us to discuss his latest articles on President Biden's insults towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ritter argues that the international debacle of insulting a head of state would be laughable if the potential consequences were not so dire. Also, Ritter posits that US Secretary of State Tony Blinken's verbal assault on China's diplomats will surely backfire.Dr. Gerald Horne, professor of history at the University of Houston, author, historian, and researcher, joins us to discuss the Biden administration's week of major foreign policy bungles. The Biden administration has alarmed both allies and adversaries alike, as they have threatened sanctions against Germany, India, Russia and China in the space of 72 hours. The buster and bravado may be playing well amongst the Washington neocon punditry, but none of the moves appears to be consistent with Biden's stated foreign policy objectives.Caleb Maupin, journalist and political analyst, joins us to discuss the strategic alliance between Russia and China. The alliance between military superpower Russia and economic superpower China is growing in response to the unhinged aggressive policies of the Washington, DC-foreign policy consensus. Also, North Korea is refusing dialogue with US diplomats because of their harsh aggressive tone, and China is stating that they are ready to step in and preside over peace on the Korean peninsula.Ted Rall, a political cartoonist and syndicated columnist, joins us to discuss the influence of dark money in US elections. Alan Macleod's latest Mintpress article argues that the billion dollars of domestic dark money that the ultra-wealthy and major corporations spent on the 2020 elections are treated as business as usual by the US media while they push evidence-free conspiracy theories about the influence of memes on Facebook. Joe Lauria, editor-in-chief at Consortium News, joins us to talk about the never-ending saga of "Russia-gate." In his latest article, Lauria argues that "when it comes to national security reporting, corporate journalists have time and again shown they are practicing something other than journalism." He goes on to illustrate how the latest US intelligence assessment gives cover for President Joe Biden to continue the absurd aggressive confrontation. Also, US entanglement in endless wars and internal instability have convinced the Chinese that Western-style democracy is not as attractive as their socialist alternative. KJ Noh, peace activist, writer and teacher, joins us to discuss China. A series of spectacular stumbles including the 2008 economic crash and a bungled response has demonstrated to China that America's financial system is a paper tiger. Also, US entanglement in endless wars and internal instability have convinced the Chinese that Western style-democracy is not as attractive as their socialist alternative.

Here he presents the inaugural Otago Chaplaincy and Interfaith Group Peace Lecture on the topic of “Old Faiths, New World”. 5 August 2004.
