Dr. Victor Cha, Dr. Jeonghun Min, and Dr. Hanbeom Jeong discussed President Lee's first 100 days in office, the implications of his foreign policies for extended deterrence, U.S.–ROK and U.S.–North Korea engagement, and more.
Simon and Dan return with the second half of their deep dive into 50 Ways to Invest in the AI Revolution. While Part 1 covered the obvious giants—semiconductors, hyperscalers, pure-play AI software, enterprise apps, and data center REITs—this episode looks at some of the less obvious but equally important beneficiaries of AI. From utilities and grid infrastructure to commodities like uranium, copper, and natural gas, they explore the backbone powering AI’s massive energy demand. They also dig into healthcare, cybersecurity, IT consulting, and industrial automation—sectors where AI is already improving efficiency, margins, and innovation in ways most investors overlook. Once again, they highlight dozens of companies and ETFs across these subsectors, balancing both the opportunities and the risks. Before the Conference League anthem came on in Celje Slovenia, one warm August night this year, today's guest had a lot of work behind him already while I was was on my way via train, uber and rental car from Bosnia. He is Rok Gregoric, press and pr wizard of NK Celje, a Slovenian club that was long a middling in the league of an already small country but has made it to the group phase of the conference league last year and again this year. A remarkable feat for a really pretty quiet city between the two main Slovenian cities Ljubljana and Maribor. Find out why. But also: what goes on in a smaller club when a UEFA competition comes to town? How do they coordinate with the visitors? What security arrangements have to be made? Where does all the UEFA signage come from? Which media gets which access? Rok takes us behind the scenes of his work, and shares about the club and the city - and a remarkable coach. Do voleb do Poslanecké sněmovny zbývá týden. Druhá koalice Spolu by měla 21 procent. Třetí by se do Sněmovny dostalo SPD, čtvrté STAN a pátí Piráti. Potřebnou pětiprocentní hranici by těsně překonali i Motoristé a Stačilo!.Značí náhlý propad ANO nějakou významější změnu nálad voličů? In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin, John and Joon Ha break down a consequential week for South Korea's diplomacy and markets. They start with President Lee Jae-myung's high-profile trip to the United Nations, where he unveiled his END (Exchange, Normalization, Denuclearization) peace plan, presided over a Security Council debate on AI and held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish President Karol Nawrocki and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The team then examines Foreign Minister Cho Hyun's trilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi, and Lee's own sharp remarks about “submissive attitudes” toward the U.S. alliance. Finally, they turn to the domestic economy: the IMF's downbeat growth forecast and the government's proposed crackdown on opaque share buybacks, which signal a broader effort to tighten corporate governance and reassure foreign investors. About the podcast: The Korea Pro Podcast is a weekly 15-minute conversation hosted by Korea Risk Group Executive Director Jeongmin Kim, Editor John Lee and correspondent Joon Ha Park, diving deep into the most pressing stories shaping South Korea — and dissecting the most complicated ones for professionals monitoring ROK politics, diplomacy, culture, society and technology. Chris Smith gives some stock picks, including Rockwell Automation (ROK) and Williams (WMB). Chris thinks that manufacturing reshoring will “accelerate” names like ROK, noting the huge disparity in their revenue from abroad vs their North American revenue: “they earn effectively 20-30 times more” in North America than in Asia. On Williams, he expects a power shortage coming as more data centers drag on our already old and strained energy grid. He calls Williams the “premier” name in natural gas energy infrastructure. For similar reasons, he likes Vistra (VST).======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin, John and Joon Ha unpack a fast-moving week for South Korea's economy and diplomacy. They begin with the U.S. Federal Reserve's quarter-point rate cut — the first since Dec. 2024 — and analyze how the move could influence the Bank of Korea's next steps, capital flows and the won. The team then dissects the Trump administration's warning that South Korea will face higher tariffs unless it accepts the same trade terms as Japan, noting Seoul officials' unusually blunt remarks that the U.S. is no longer the free-trade partner it once was. They also explore Mexico's plan to impose 50% tariffs on vehicles from countries without a free-trade agreement, a policy that could squeeze South Korean automakers and limit Seoul's trade flexibility. Next, Jeongmin and Joon Ha turn to President Lee Jae-myung's newly announced 123 key policy tasks, outlining the administration's broad domestic and economic agenda. In particular, they look at Seoul's security and foreign policy agenda, including the administration's ambition to complete OPCON transfer and reorganize the Marine Corps into a fourth quasi branch of the ROK Armed Forces. They discuss how these priorities are likely to shape both near-term governance and South Korea's longer-term growth strategy. Finally, the hosts look ahead to upcoming developments on Lee's expected keynote address at the United Nations on Sept. 23and other key events shaping the weeks ahead.
To musi być proces powolny" - mówił w Porannej rozmowie w RMF FM Tomasz Nowicki, burmistrz Lądka-Zdroju. Rok temu miasto zostało mocno zniszczone przez powódź. "Do podnoszenia z kolan trzeba podchodzić metodycznie. Musimy założyć plan działania i go pomału, skutecznie realizować.

Artur Pawłowski i Anna Folta z koalicji mieszkańców „Prosimy ciszej” opisują życie w centrum Warszawy, gdzie nocna sprzedaż alkoholu oznacza hałas, śmieci i mniejsze poczucie bezpieczeństwa.1 września koalicja „Prosimy ciszej” opublikowała petycję, w której wnoszą o wprowadzenie ograniczenia sprzedaży alkoholu w godz. Tymczasem podstawowym problemem pozostaje bezpieczeństwo w centrum stolicy. Wprowadzenie ograniczeń mogłoby także utrudnić dostęp do alkoholu osobom nadużywającym go. Informujemy o naszym problemie i zbieramy głosy poparcia/ab
In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin, John and Joon Ha examine a turbulent stretch for U.S.-ROK relations and President Lee Jae-myung 100-day-old administration. They start with the dramatic ICE raid on Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution's battery-plant project in Georgia, where more than 300 South Korean engineers were detained before a chartered flight carried them home. The team traces the raid's origins, the swift diplomatic response from Seoul and the broader questions it raises about U.S. visa policy and the investment climate for Korean firms. Next, they break down Lee Jae-myung's 100-day press conference, highlighting his criticism of the U.S. raid, his call for national unity and his policy priorities on economic recovery and renewable energy. The hosts assess how Lee's direct style and focus on communication are shaping perceptions at home and abroad. Finally, they look ahead to Freedom Edge trilateral military drills between the U.S., South Korea and Japan, and to the intensifying race within Japan's Liberal Democratic Party to replace Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, John and Lina examine a turbulent week for South Korea's trade, defense and domestic agenda. They discuss how a U.S. appeals court ruling against Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs threatens to upend Washington's negotiations with trade partners, including Seoul. They also weigh South Korea's official decision to join the CPTPP, considering the domestic backlash it faces from farmers and the politically sensitive issue of lifting Japanese seafood restrictions. The hosts then turn to defense and foreign policy, noting President Lee Jae-myung's absence from China's military parade while National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik shook hands with Kim Jong Un, and previewing Lee's upcoming UNGA speech that will highlight AI and global security rather than North Korea. Finally, they look ahead to Lee's first 100-day press conference under the banner of “recovery and growth for the future.” About the podcast: The Korea Pro Podcast is a weekly 15-minute conversation hosted by Korea Risk Group Executive Director Jeongmin Kim, Editor John Lee and correspondent Joon Ha Park, diving deep into the most pressing stories shaping South Korea — and dissecting the most complicated ones for professionals monitoring ROK politics, diplomacy, culture, society and technology. A jaká témata zatím do letošního boje o voliče promlouvají nejvíc? To nikdy nedělal. In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin, John and Joon Ha break down the first summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. They analyze how a last-minute social media post from Trump nearly derailed the talks, why Lee relied on flattery to keep the meeting cordial and how the U.S. president's land-ownership remark highlighted the volatility now embedded in the alliance. The hosts also examine South Korea's record $150 billion in new investment pledges, including landmark deals in aviation, energy, shipbuilding and critical minerals. They discuss how these commitments secure tariff relief but deepen Seoul's exposure to Trump's transactional trade framework. Finally, they consider how partisan disinformation networks in both countries are shaping alliance management, and what the summit reveals about the risks of diplomacy under an unpredictable U.S. president. In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, John and Joon Ha dissect revelations about the hidden clause in Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Korea Electric Power Corporation's (KEPCO) settlement with Westinghouse Electric, which critics argue binds South Korea's nuclear exports under U.S. control for the next half-century. They examine the political fallout in Seoul and why President Lee Jae-myung is unlikely to raise the matter in his upcoming talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. The hosts also preview Lee's Aug. 23 summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, noting the rare symmetry between their recent Aug. 15 speeches, which balanced historical acknowledgment with forward-looking cooperation. Finally, they turn to Lee's Aug. 25 summit with Trump, weighing the risks of an unpredictable U.S. president revisiting tariffs and trade concessions, and recap the week ahead, including the People Power Party leadership race and the Seoul Circuit event on ROK-Japan relations. In this episode of Korea Deconstructed, I sit down with Ra Jong-yil, a scholar, diplomat, and influential figure in modern Korean politics. We recorded this conversation in his house in Seoul. Born in 1940 during the Japanese occupation of Korea, Ra Jong-yil has lived through some of the country's most defining historical moments. And, in many cases, helped shape them. We talk about his father's role in the Provisional Government in Shanghai alongside Syngman Rhee, Kim Ku, and Ahn Chang Ho. Ra also reflects on his mentorship of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, two presidents who helped usher in Korea's democratic era, and with whom he later served in high positions as well as in the role of Ambassador of the ROK in the United Kingdom (2001 - 2003) and Ambassador of the ROK in Japan (2004-2007) The Baekbong Political Culture Research Institute: http://bbi.or.kr/ Inside North Korea's Theocracy (book): https://www.amazon.com/Inside-North-Koreas-Theocracy-Song-thaek/dp/1438473729 Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra_Jong-yil Thank you to Han Jong-chul for helping me record on location: https://www.instagram.com/the_story_from_you/ Discussion Outline 0:00 Korea Under Occupation 9:10 Baekbong Na Yong-kyun (Jong-Yil's father) 22:30 Liberal Democracy in Korea 44:18 On Kim Dae-jung 1:07:17 On Roh Moo-hyun 1:27:05 On Compassion, Books, and Myths David A. In this episode of The Korea Pro Podcast, Jeongmin and John unpack the Lee administration's $350 billion pledge to the U.S. — a last-minute concession that averted a sweeping 25% tariff on South Korean exports to the U.S. The hosts examine how the agreement, announced just before the Aug. 1 deadline, includes $100 billion in U.S. energy purchases and $150 billion for shipbuilding cooperation, but remains largely informal and unenforceable. Jeongmin and John also explore structural risks to South Korea's energy and shipbuilding pledges, including limited U.S. capacity, Jones Act restrictions and permitting delays. They compare the deal to Japan and the EU's earlier arrangements, which involved similar headline figures. North Korea's ruling Kim family has orchestrated not one but two leadership successions during its over seven decades in power, and may well be preparing for a third. But the success of such transitions in authoritarian states is far from certain and depends in large part on how rulers manage the elites that compose their power base, a new book argues. This week, researchers Edward Goldring and Peter Ward join the podcast to discuss their new volume about the tools that the Kim family dictatorship has used to facilitate leadership transitions. They explore how successors must rely on their predecessor's power base to govern while building their own inner circle of elites, and they explain why autocrats don't necessarily want to use forceful means like purges to exert control. Ward also talks about a forthcoming paper that digs into the ways in which South Korean society discriminates against North Korean defectors despite a pervasive belief in a Korean ethnic identity, as well as about a second upcoming paper on the factors that make North Koreans more likely to consume ROK media in violation of state censorship laws. Edward Goldring is a lecturer in comparative politics in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne, and Peter Ward is a research fellow at the Sejong Institute in Seoul. They are the co-authors of the new book “Authoritarian Survival and Leadership Succession in North Korea and Beyond” from Cambridge University Press. Opowiemy o podwójnej elekcji z 1733 roku, kiedy jednocześnie wybrano dwóch królów - Leszczyńskiego i Augusta III - i o wojnie o sukcesję polską. Prześledzimy sejm repninowski, porwania senatorów, konfederację barską i wydarzenia prowadzące do I rozbioru w 1772 roku. Zobaczymy też ostatnie próby ratowania państwa: Sejm Czteroletni, uchwalenie Konstytucji 3 Maja, II rozbiór, Insurekcję Kościuszkowską i ostateczny - III rozbiór Polski w 1795 roku.
