A comparative analysis between 2018 and 2021 in the reasons why people are leaving their jobs. This is critical right now because of the quantum leap we are experiencing in voluntary quit rates each month. My name is Matthew Lostaglia, founder and chief talent strategist at Resilient Talent Solutions, a company that I started to bridge the gap between what CEOs want and what employees, or talent, want. In recent years, the desires of the employees have started to transform, and businesses are struggling to adjust their organizations to accommodate the new landscape as we can see reflected in over 6 months of record setting voluntary quit rates in the US. I believe that as a workforce the US is now shifting into the third rung of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and this must be the new baseline for organizations who are in the hunt to find, acquire, and retain pivotal talent. Quit rates have skyrocketed over the past two years in what the masses have dubbed the “Great Resignation.” One big question is whether the reasons for quitting have changed. The good news is that we have data we can look at. I am going to compare Gallup survey results with Pew results, and we will look at consistencies over time and potential emerging trends. #Talentmanagement #talentacquisition #talentretention #workforce #workplaceculture #cultureatwork #talentresilience #greatresignation #humanresources #hiring #job #recruitment #business #leadership, #jobs #management #hr #manufacturing #people #employeebenefits #smallbusiness #startup #onboarding #employeeengagement #emlpoyeeappreciation #culture #companyculture #organizationalculture #cfo #chro #shrm #compliance #finance #businessfinance #grit #determination #Midwest --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support

Yes, the event that has swept our nation's attention away from COVID-19, from a war in Eat0s0ern Europe that could propel us into WWIII, and a gas prices soaring higher than giraffe...well you get it! I don't want to talk about the drama, not the events leading up to or even necessarily what happened that fateful night for one of my favorite comedians of all time. No, I want to talk about what happened afterwards. Cheerlead those who cheerlead you and watch what happens to your life. It is officially March of 2022 people! This is incredible! How are your new years resolutions going? Oh wait, what? New years resolutions? Yeah, you probably haven't thought about those in a couple of weeks or maybe even a month if you ever thought about them at all? Why is that? Well I take a look at one of the most common new years resolutions over the past 5 years that was consistently plastered across all of the socials. "GET THESE DANG TOXIC PEOPLE OUT OF MY LIFE!" Yes there were hilarious memes and GIFS filled with plenty of sass and attitude. But my questions to you are... 1. What does it mean to be toxic? 2. Are "toxic" people irredeemable? Is permanency a contingent component of toxicity? 3. How successful were you in your efforts? 4. (And this is a tough one) - Have you looked into the mirror and done a self check on your toxic levels? I propose that trying not to do something, or trying to get rid of something is actually much more difficult then seeking out something or pursuing a positive gain. Once the consistency of food, water, and safety is established we then become motivated to lead better and more fulfilling lives and it is hard if not impossible to do this without meaningful relationships. It is one thing to start a new relationship (friend, intimate, business, family, etc.) but to maintain it, and to give it it's proper care and attention, and to do so as a priority of life, this is where our lives change. Our lives improve through the actions we take, especially those actions that reflect true and honest care and love for those around us. Cheerlead those who cheerlead you and watch what happens to your life. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support
On this latest episode of Real-Resilience we discuss mental landmines, pitfalls, and traps that are common for humans cross-culture and time. First we discuss what these landmines are, then how to identify them in yourself and then the tactics you can employ today, to start paving a new path that will improve your interpersonal relationships, confidence, team work, while reducing stress and a propensity for rumination that some of us just simply love! Sleep is...well completely mad when you think about it! Why in the world would we evolve to spend 1/3 of our days, and thus 1/3 of our lives in a state of relative unconscious when there are plenty of animal out there that want to eat us or our families, we could be gathering more food and resources, or anything seemingly more productive than simply laying there in another world. I dive into this, some recent scientific literature around sleep, and how we can take proactive steps to pull the reins in on sleep so we can use it as another tool in our kit bag that we use to build a more resilient and thus more prosperous and fulfilling life. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support
Every entity in our world today is vying for your attention. From the minute you wake up to the minute you go to sleep you have loved ones, professional colleagues, social media apps, news channels, movies, commercials, and even scientists competing for your eyeballs all in an effort to influence you one way or another. So how to you stay yourself in such a turbulent environment for your mind? We must look at ourselves and where we stand in this state of modern warfare. How are you processing information that is coming in to you? What tools or resources do you have to confront and manage competing narratives attempting to sway you towards their point of view? This episode focuses on defining the most powerful tool and series of actions you can take to objectively look at the world around you so that you can repel the emotion evoking headlines of the day. #tonyrobbins #grit #determination #motivation #resilience #overcome #obstacles #stoicism #selfhelp #personalgrowth #goalsetting #goals #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #control #environment #responsibility #dothework #mentalhealth #mindfulness #meditation #resilienceatwork #stoic #growthmindset #journey #personaljourney #humanity #wellbeing --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support

The world influences us everyday and in every which way. This influence typically comes in the form of good vs evil. We see ourselves within this construct as a force being pulled by temptations attempting to moor ourselves to ideologies of good striving to stride towards a good life. What is wrong with that? Well nothing in it of itself, this is a fine motivation and when we strive towards good we do indeed make our lives and the lives of those around us better. However what if this very construct, that of Good Vs Evil, is not the most accurate and is certainly not the most useful way to view the elements that are truly guiding our behavior. #tonyrobbins #grit #determination #motivation #resilience #overcome #obstacles #stoicism #selfhelp #personalgrowth #goalsetting #goals #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #control #environment #responsibility #dothework #mentalhealth #mindfulness #meditation #resilienceatwork #stoic #growthmindset #journey #personaljourney #humanity #wellbeing --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support
I, like many of you, find myself drawn towards yes. Whether it be at home or in the professional setting. We may have 15 things on our plate right now, but when somebody that you love, or someone at work whom you respect leans on you to help them with something we will almost unequivocally say yes because that is how we see ourselves. We see ourselves as people who are helpful, that are smart and competent. But how smart and competent is it when you spread yourself out too thin? Perhaps you're not even spread out too thin and you have the time to take on a new project, but it doesn't actually align with your goals and the vision you have of your future. When you say yes to this thing, you are inherently saying no to the next opportunities that are on the horizon. So, sometimes by saying no to this one thing, we are actually saying yes to the next and better thing! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-lostaglia/support
So you've spent 15 years in prison, and you just got out. What now? Well let's pause for a second, you haven't actually gone to prison right? Hopefully not! But what if there was a version of you who just re-attained their freedom after 15 years of incarceration? What if that version came up to you today and said "Hey! I have been locked up forever and a half! What have you been up to for the past 15 years?" What would you say? What have you done? Have you leveraged opportunities afforded to you? Did you get a new job? Did you get promoted? Did you start that business? How is your relationship with the family? Friends? You commonly hear – don't sweat the small stuff. Don't make mountains out of molehills, or possibly my personal favorite - Tempest in a teapot. All of these are expressions that work towards bringing our perspective “out of the weeds” so to speak and into the big picture. They are idioms used to help us not get bogged down in the little or petty events of the day and to drive on towards the big picture. But my purpose here today is to ask you what is a big picture without the fine details? I am going to make the argument – Why You SHOULD sweat the small stuff.
Trying something new - Movie Review! I like to continue to try and push myself into areas I may not be wholly comfortable in because that is the only way to expand that circle of comfort that we like to stay within. If I want to be comfortable in more places more of the time it means I need to be uncomfortable in more places right now! So here it goes! I believe the first and most appropriate thing to do here is to give a spoiler alert! Althought I don't think I give too much away - and steer clear of the ending, I am sure to give away some scenes and plots that one may not know if they had just seen the previews. This is not a typical movie review. I chose this one really because it spoke to me in terms of resilience. You get to watch two people handle a toxic and tyrannical presence in entirely different methods. I will explain what those methods were and why the obviously better method was able to manifest.
The pursuit of happiness is one of the base principles that the United States was founded upon. This is fundamental not just to being American, but to being human. But is it enough? Can we survive on pursuing happiness alone? Diving in deeper, we also discuss what happiness is and how elusive it is by nature. Understanding these ideas and how we can not just build on them but to make them repeatable and sustainable for your entire life.
As a rule of thumb we all tend to look to avoid stress. Stress, well stresses us out! It drains us both physically and emotionally. It also is the prerequisite for growth, for meaningful accomplishment, and for a sense of fulfillment.
The Holidays are here! What an opportunity to catch up with family, embrace gratitude for those we love and that which we have and the world we live in built upon the backs of giants over thousands of years! Also, as is our nature, it is a great time to see what others have that you don't. To become a little...over zealous...in the dining room. To relax off of your goals and to push aside priorities until the start of the new year. How do we avoid this?

What do broken pencils, the Olympics, and Emotional Resilience have in common? Today I pulled out the needle and thread to tie them all together. The world has been on fire with talk of Simone Biles' either "Acts of Courage" or "Choke Artist Routine". Let's dig in a bit further than the cursory stupidity that so many people are trying to prepare and serve up to their audiences thirsty to have their own opinions delivered back to them in our continuing journey of self-perpetuated echo chambers. Resilience, nuance, and candor - These are core tenants that bind us together in this community, so let us indulge ourselves with these principles in mind.
What do Vegans, Smokers, and Thomas Jefferson have in common? There's only one way to find out - join us this week where we discuss Duality and the Human condition.
A little catch up from a 2 week break in the show but ultimately leading into a conversation about the four principles I know to be the framework to living a fulfilling life!
Between smoking myself doing the Murph on Memorial Day and then having a back procedure on Thursday tied along with the stresses both physically and mentally of preparing to move...let's just say, I AM SMOKED! With my energy getting rapidly depleted each day it has been a blessing to see humanity pop up in unique and interesting ways, so I figured I would talk a bit about that today, and how we can use external inspiration such as this to re-gear the inner workings of our own minds! Come Join the Conversation!
This week I go over the difference between taking massive action and restructuring small but fundamental parts of your daily life. (Note: I give positives on both of these!) This leads into a thought experiment I stumbled into during a daily walk. I found myself steeped into a negative whirlwind affecting all of those physically close to me, strangers and friends alike! Come join the conversation to learn how I not only overcame this event but also how we can actually use negative emotions and interactions to develop and foster new relationships!
Are you being pulled in 50 directions by 50 different begging needs or are you being pulled heavily by one large anchor? We all have commitments, and promises that would are living with, the question is how are you valuing yourself and others in these relationships? Are you over extended? Spread too thin? Come join the conversation to learn about untangling these webs and choosing action versus waiting for the universe to acknowledge your hard work.
Hey what's up y'all, I have a powerful lesson that I have been sitting on for you guys. I have beat around the bush in previous episodes about this story and I have kind of told it from different perspectives but this is the most demonstrative case of real-resilience that you will have seen outside of those people that have worked with me directly in the past with official training programs I have created. This is how I turned being overweight, divorced, ½ broke and alone, into the most powerful and life transforming time of my life. I am going to get really personal, you ready?
This week we take on the and the importance of choice, passion and of mystery to leveraging your emotions to the benefit of the you today by enabling the you of tomorrow.
This week I talk about the perils of being a trail blazer and the benefits of taking the road more traveled. If you have listened and followed my show for any period of time you will know that this always boils down to a tight rope balancing event - but we get to explore some fun historic examples to drive the point home. So come join the conversation!
Today I take on the reality that you are going to fail. That if you are not failing you are STILL FAILING - but now you are simple failing at trying something new. In short - you are failing, destined to fail and will continue to fail. So what to do with that? We address all of that (along with some sweet experimental psychology!) right meow!
It took me some time but I finally figured out what the difference is between being gritty and being stubborn. Now I don't know about you but when I first thought about this I was like "Oh, that's easy, let me break it down real quick!" And then when I went to write it down I realized that there was a gap between my thinking mind and my speaking mind.. To be more accurate, a gap between my "Feeling" mind and my thinking mind. I could feel the difference, but where we get our feels and where we get our words are not the same place in the brain! So it took a bit of time, and even working some of it out live in the show today - but by the end I think I finally got a solid grasp on what it is! Hope you enjoy this live mental workshop!
You Keep Saying these words, but I do not think they mean what you think they mean.
What do Snowboarding, driving a Wrangler, going for a run and riding motorcycles have in common? What is the difference between vacationing at the beach versus vacationing in the mountains? What is the impact of these choices? What is your level of control in all of this and what is the relevancy to your life today, right here and right now? It is all about the challenge and pushing yourself. Let me take you on a journey on how I found a deeper meaning for you and how to expand meaningful relationships!
This week I take on good meaning, but hollow and cliche memes designed to make you feel good but result in no change and ultimately in the best case in apathy and in the worst case self loathing. I breathe life and meat onto the dried up cliche bones of meme motivation.

What you know is what you know. The manner in which you take in new information is all filtered through your own personal lens - your perception. Unlike a cut on your hand or a break of your bone, your body does not heal itself of mental wounds. These mental problems require a more cognitive strategy. The skill of resilience, when applied with the proper finesse, can help you to recover from these cerebral obstacles. But even at its best, does resilience alone do enough? Today is all about the future and your choice in that future. Life is the ultimate choose your own adventure and this is the most perfect example of that. If you decide that your future is doomed, it is. If you decide that your future is bright and full of opportunities, your head will be held high enough to be able to see those opportunities when they arise. However if your perception of the future is dependent on aspects of reality that are out of your control then you are ensuring a life of undue strife and struggle. So now is the time, Choose winning converts over winning arguments. Choose pursuing purpose over pursuing cutting down your enemies. Think like Daryl Davis - the man who converted KKK members by treating THEM like they were humans. The dehumanization of the opposing side is what backs us all deeper into our own echo chambers.
