POPULARITY
Today's episode brought me so much joy, and I think you're going to love it (but just taking warning: it will make you hungry). I speak with Ali Slagle, author of the James Beard award-nominated cookbook I Dream of Dinner (so You Don't Have To) and publisher of the Substack 40 Ingredients Forever. She's also a frequent contributor to the New York Times.Ali and I share our favorite ways to use spring ingredients, from asparagus, to greens, to peas, to new potatoes, rhubarb, lamb and more. We discuss ways to make spring cooking not only easier, but also more delicious, offering specific recipe ideas, cooking techniques, and prep tips. We also share our favorite spring entertaining menus, which would be perfect for Easter this weekend. As Ali and I talked, we both started to get so excited to get into the kitchen. I recorded the conversation in early March on a gray, cold day, and this conversation truly was “therapy,” as Ali stated. I think you're going to walk away with real, actionable cooking tips, but also uplifted and hungry to start cooking. I've included links below to many of the recipes that we discussed. Pairing traditional Mexican flavors with grapes and brie make these quesadillas a delicious play on sweet and heat. The fresh grapes provide the sweet component and appetizing element of surprise that balance the hot jalapeños in the quesadilla. The green grape and arugula salad can be served as an appetizer or entrée. Recipe at: http://ciaprochef.com/grapes/recipe12/
When it is hot like it is outside I don’t want to fire up my stove! Nothing is better on a hot day than ice-cold water and a refreshing summer salad. This salad plays on the salty and sweet flavor combination (which is probably my favorite combo). This salad is a hit every time I make it and I hope you and your family enjoy it too. This salad should yield two servings BUT depending on how big your hands are; you might have leftovers! You will need: 3 handfuls of Baby Arugula 1/4 cup of quartered grape tomatoes 2 Golden delicious apples peeled and diced into one-inch cubes 1 small red onion diced 2 cups of really good parmesan cheese (More for garnish) Balsamic Vinegar glaze for the dressing Optional: Protein of your choice; I’ve roasted salmon, shrimp, and chicken and put it into this salad. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Simply Luxurious Kitchen - Seasonal Fare to Elevate the Everyday Meal
One of my favorite recipes that I make as a meal, but can also serve as a side salad, is my sweet potato, chicken and arugula salad. Marrying vegetables, crunchy healthy carbs and protein, this dish is a meal one evening and my lunch the next day. And what's even better is that it is simple to make. In today's episode of The Simply Luxurious Kitchen discover how to make a salad perfect for fall and winter (and really year-round), as well as learn what the actually difference is between sweet potatoes and yams. After all, Thanksgiving is just around the corner here in the states, and even the grocery stores have been labeling them incorrectly . . . sort of. I'll explain it all, and the history of how the shift of "misnaming" came to be common practice. I do hope you enjoy the episode. Click on the video below for episode #7 of the second season! On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast I had the privilege of chatting with Ruth Chou Simons on the topic of creativity. Ruth is an artist, writer, entrepreneur, and speaker. She is the creator of the GraceLaced online art shoppe, blog, and the popular Instagram community where she shares scriptural truths daily through honest words and her hand-painted artwork. Ruth and her husband, Troy, live in New Mexico and are grateful parents to six sons—their greatest adventure. Ruth and I talked about everything from the ministry of coffee dates to emulating Jesus’ creative pursuit of us in the way we pursue others. She said, “It’s not about how beautiful the actual product is. It is that your hands actually created something that is the vehicle in which somebody else gets to experience the grace of God.” If you don’t consider yourself creative in the traditional sense of the word, this conversation is still for you! Ruth shared how we can all express creativity even in something like a coffee date or a simple, handwritten note. You guys know my husband is an infantry officer and I have a three year old and a one year old. That said, cooking requirements for me include quick, healthy, and substantial. The portions for a meal like the Juicy Lucy Burger with Tomato-Onion Jam and Arugula Salad were more than substantial enough for these big eaters and my favorite thing is that they incorporate lots of one pot recipes which makes for seriously speedy cooking and minimal clean up.
