As Wendy celebrates her 100th episode, she discusses the stories we tell ourselves that may have originated at the tender young age of 10. When we embark on a new journey or are continuing along one that may be challenging it is natural to feel fear and resistance and question whether change is possible. Change is an inevitable part of nature and life and the trick is to recognize that if our mind isn't expansive and fearless and open to change, then it is trapped in a condition within a story room we have created for ourselves. The secret? To seek to embrace change and recognize the power within you to effect the change you seek.  Start your journey and download your Top 5 Quick-Start Tips at https://HealEndometriosisNaturally.com

Host Mark Steele and resident expert Dr. Dave Schneider, M.D., interview award-winning author Wendy Moore. We dive deep into her fifth book, No Man’s Land, the story of the trailblazing women who ran Britain’s most extraordinary military hospital in WW1.  Louisa Garrett Anderson and Flora Murray seized their moment in history and laid the groundwork for the future of women in medicine. They lived by the suffragette’s motto, “Deeds not words,” and with that philosophy they were able to not just get a seat at the table but build their own table. As Wendy painted the picture of what their life was like during the harrowing days of WW1, she challenged her own thought process and reevaluated her convictions for the causes in which she herself believes.

EPISODE 100!!!! We made it! And we are so thankful to be able to bring you an absolutely incredible interview with our friend - Wendy Nguyen, of Wendy's Lookbook! Wendy has been a fashion blogger for about 10 years now, and maybe you know her because you are one of her 1.1 million followers on Instagram. But Wendy is so very much more than a pretty face, with incredible fashion sense. Wendy found herself in foster care at the age of 15. She has been fending for herself ever since (and who am I kidding, before then too.) Wendy shares her powerful story with us - not to entertain or shock us - but to show us that grit will propel you! To foster parents: We speak to foster parents (moms especially), and those involved in the foster care system as workers, that we can, and all need to, do better. Showing up more consistently for those in need. Showing up whole heartedly for those in need. Not guarding ourselves from the pain of separation - but loving fiercely for the seasons that we are supposed to love fiercely.   To foster youth: For foster youth who may be listening - there is hope for you! You are not a victim of your circumstances! You have been dealt a bad hand - whether by your parents, or society. You are not a foster child because you did anything wrong! As Wendy says in the interview: "The system wasn't built for us (the kids)." But keep your head up, follow the rules (they are there for a reason), and chase your dreams! Go to college! Be your own boss. Be whatever you are hoping to become. You have the grit to get you there. The system is broken. Very. But let's not sit back and feel helpless. We can all work to make lives of foster youth better! We have to try very hard. But it's worth it. Very.   The Good Word of the Day "Give me a place to stand,... and I will move the world." - Archimedes Thank you, Wendy, for sharing your heart with us on this episode. Demystifying Divorce: How to Move Your Process Forward

Life is going to be different after divorce. You can’t always maintain the same lifestyle, and change can be scary, especially when you’re faced with unknowns, but according to Pia and Wendy, you can have a “revised happily ever after.” One of the keys to moving forward is setting realistic expectations. Although most clients don't want the same things, this divorce team agrees that if can prioritize what you want the most, you’re more likely to get it and be able to be more thoughtful in addressing other things. To illustrate the way couples can lose focus of the big picture, Wendy shares a story of a couple who had over $2 million in assets but, in the end, were arguing over a $20 toaster. Wendy and Pia encourage you to ask yourself if there's value in continuing to disagree, or could compromise be more valuable? They advise you to narrow in on the real issues. Is this emotional? Is this practical? How can you get unstuck? Finding creative options can help you to break free and move forward. As Wendy says, “We can't fix the past, but we can facilitate a path to a better future.” They also recommend tools people can use, such as a therapist, co-parenting counseling, or a career coach for people re-entering the workforce. ---------- J. Pia Koslow, practices law in Atlanta, specializing in family law for 15 years and was named a Rising Stars for years 2010 – 2016, and a Georgia Trend Legal Elite in 2013, and 2015-2018, both elite designations based on peer recognition, and professional achievement. Wendy Henley is a woman of God and kingdom entrepreneur where she and her husband use their business to love the corporate realm in unique ways. Listeners on the show today will be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to make a kingdom difference in your work life too.  Introduction to Wendy Henley (1:35)  Wendy is a wife, mom, and a teammate with her husband in the mortgage company and culture. She and her husband recently opened Trinity Oaks Mortgage company and feel God has honored this opportunity to reach people for Christ.  Forerunners in Kingdom Business (4:10) Trinity Oaks Mortgage company sets an incredible example for so many other business on how to bring the kingdom of God into the workplace. They have four core values such as honest communication, second mile service, relentless pursuit of excellence, and generous love, all based on God’s truth. On top of living out these four core values, Wendy and her husband make an effort to hand out bibles to customers after they have honored them in the mortgage services. Blessings in Real Estate (5:30) Carrie shares how a Christian real estate agent greatly blessed her and her husband Ricardo when they recently had been looking to purchase a new home. She noticed the real estate agent seemed to care more about her as a person rather than how much money they could get from the business itself.  Stop for the One (7:45) Jesus stopped for so many individuals, so should we! It can be intimidating to be courageous like offering to pray for people or sharing the gospel, however there is great fufillment when we do step out.  Trust in Him (10:40) When we are called to something we must trust that God is going to make a way. If God has placed something on your heart such as handing out bibles in the workplace, you will never know it’s impact unless you give it a try.  No More Fear (11:45)  We don’t have time to let fear rob the joy from ourselves or for others, it has no right to dominate us. Overtime Wendy has learned to love sharing the joy of the Lord with folks around her. At first this used to get her nervous but now, she’s learned people want to know that you care. Little things like stopping for a server and asking if they need prayer can make a huge difference in someone’s life. What are some things you can do to make a positive impact on someone today?  Honor Him (14:00) God is the one who accepts us, redeems us, and calls us back home. Because of who He is, we have a responsibility to honor Him in all we do.  Ambassadors of Christ (14:55) We are ambassadors of Christ here and now, it is our privilege and responsibility to release that on earth. Believers do what we do because we desire to show God’s heart to the world around.  Fruit of the Kingdom (15:30) God’s kingdom is peace, joy, righteousness, and love. Fear can rob us of so much joy and we need to be careful to not make things up in our own mind that would strip us of God’s peace.  Wendy’s Faith Story (17:15)  Wendy always felt like she had a connection with God. She was baptized catholic and at 13 years old, accepted Jesus as Lord and savior over her life. From an early age she wanted the fullness of Christ and nothing less. This carried on throughout her teenage years and at 19 years old she was able to attend a great church that allowed her to grow in a love for the word.  A Call to Encourage (19:00) At 21 years old, Wendy was baptized in the Holy Spirit. In this, her relationship with the Lord seemed to go to a new level. Wendy started to have more spiritual dreams, discernment, and words of encouragement to share with others. To this day she loves to call out the gold in people, bringing hope and the love of Christ to all.  Stepping Out (21:00) Wendy knew God was asking her to speak into people’s lives more so she started to step out and do that. As she grows in stepping out she is also being moved to pray and intercede for specific people laid on her heart. As Wendy walks in more obedience to Him, she’s learned to become more and more available for God to move through her. When you know you’re encouraging people in the Lord, you want to move in it.  Hope in the Hearing Devotional (26:00) Wendy knew God was asking her to empower other people and the Hope in the Hearing book is one way she is walking out obedience towards that. This devotional is different from other devotionals because it emphasizes the importance of being thankful and grateful. It is a resource intended to help keep a reader's heart open towards the Lord and the probing questions will help activate individuals faith on a continual basis. Uniquely designed, everyday of the devotional is working off the last which will empower the reader to move into a new level with the Lord, build hope, and to reaffirm God is speaking to us everyday. To purchase the book, click here. Anchored in Love (27:30)  Let’s be anchored in the fact that God loves you, He’s guiding you, and wants the best for all of us!  Activation is Key (28:30) Our faith needs to be activated on a daily basis. It’s important to consume information and knowledge, but we need to be intentional about acting upon that too.  CONNECT with Carrie Robaina by clicking here. Entrepreneur In Focus: Wendy Shand – Founder of Tots To Travel

Scale Up Your Business Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 19, 2019 76:04

As part of the continuing ‘Entrepreneur In Focus’ series, Wendy Shand, founder and CEO of Tots To Travel joins Nick to talk about her journey in business, how she successfully identified her target market, and how she grew an idea into an eight-figure company that caters to families wishing to explore the world.  No two journeys in business are the same. Wendy’s began at a young age, when her parents would often travel without her due to insufficient amenities for children on international business trips. When Wendy’s family began to grow, she began to realise that a huge market was being ignored.  Through focus and resilience, Wendy founded a thriving business that she has personally scaled up into one of the most popular resort agents in the UK. KEY TAKEAWAYS Tots To Travel is a specialist holiday resort company for families with young children, which was born out of Wendy’s own experiences of how to holiday with her own young children. The entire experience of trying to vacation with infants can be extremely difficult and overwhelming. This is a market that was being ignored almost entirely when Wendy began thirteen years ago. It isn’t just comfort that’s an issue with young families. Safety also is a huge concern for parents and families. Mindset and focus at the beginning was extremely important. Wendy’s home life was transient due to her husband’s career. By understanding their different personality profiles, she was able to table the subject of their family’s future in a meaningful way. Wendy’s personality is that of a visionary, while her husband is an integrator. By teaming these attributes together, they were able to envision Wendy’s aims for Tots To Travel and turn it into a reality. When it comes to her workforce, Wendy believes passionately in placing the right people in the right roles. By identifying her staff’s personal gifts and strengths, she can assign them correctly to key positions, and in turn ensure that they come to work happy and leave each day feeling fulfilled.  One of the key moments in Wendy’s journey was when she and her husband decided to play a high-risk move and go all in on Tots To Travel. Wendy’s husband quit his important career and they focussed entirely on building and growing Tots To Travel. As Wendy puts it, you make your best decisions when you’re hungry and when the wolf is at the door. By going all in, they had no choice but to succeed. Tots To Travel saw a huge surge of growth when they refined their offerings to include resort villas providing a more thorough service, meaning that families could enjoy a more luxury holiday experience. This led to a large period of scaling up to meet the new demand. Tots To Travel is challenged by disintermediation, the process by where consumers may discover their product using Wendy’s company, but who will then go and shop for it elsewhere so as to save money. This can essentially mean that Tots To Travel acts as a shop window at times, and is one of the more complex problems faced by Wendy; how to attract a consumer, and ensure that they complete their experience with her. Wendy’s answer to this problem was to establish a product that could not be found anywhere else. Wendy approached investors and scaled Tots To Travel up even further. By purchasing a resort’s inventory for a set period of time, Wendy was not only able to offer a product that could not be found elsewhere, but she was also able to ingeniously tailor the holiday experience precisely to her market. Across the life of her business so far, the main challenge in scaling up was a lack of inventory when it came to destinations. By evolving the business from a simple directory of holiday lets for families, into an exclusive collection of destination resorts that cannot be found anywhere else, Tots To Travel has genuinely evolved and met the demands of its own growth. Building a successful business and scaling it effectively has been a lesson in experimentation, and developing a niche market that is exclusively yours.  During the beginning of the business, Wendy didn’t realise the importance of establishing the culture of the company she wished to create. Over the next years, they focussed on stripping out practices that weren’t aligned with the values she wished to establish, and began again.  Self-development is crucial in creating the right mindset. Wendy and her family focus on physical as well as mental stimulation and treat themselves as prime athletes. This is of paramount importance in Wendy’s mind. By telling herself that she is valuable, and reinforcing this with tangible benefits, this sense of importance and value is translated into her business life. Wendy’s purpose and mission is to speak about the epidemic of loneliness that exists, and the masks that so many wear to hide that truth from those who might judge them or not understand. As Wendy sees it, connection is the imperative and only antidote; yet hiding behind the masks people wear prevents that needed level of interaction. She sees, and we fully agree, that the fear of vulnerability is getting in their way. To use Wendy’s term, claiming our “muchness” is what makes the vulnerability much less frightening. Listen to her sage conversation in dealing with an epidemic that needs to end.

For the most of the past few decades, the retail banking industry hasn’t necessary cultivated a reputation for innovation. The banking space has tended to slowly to adopt technologies that have become mainstream in other industries, and it has been resistant to abandon “the old way” of doing business. On this week’s episode, we speak with Service Credit Union VP of Marketing Wendy Beswick, who discusses the continued relevance of physical bank branches and the supportive role played by technology for financial services customers. As Wendy and Service Credit Union’s experience shows, mobile seems to have flipped the script for the retail banking industry. Banks are evolving with the use of mobile apps and tools like voice activation to preserve and grow their individual market share, and help them connect with customers where they are – on their mobile devices and as well as in person. Our guest on the October 18th Conference Call is Wendy Clark. The topic is "Revitalizing Durham." We're pleased to have Wendy Clark with us as our guest for this edition of Businesses Doing Good. Wendy Clark is a dedicated entrepreneur who started her first business at the age of 20 with less than $100. Almost twenty-five years later, that business—Carpe Diem Cleaning—is still thriving, with 35+ employees serving 500 clients to bring in over $1 million in annual revenue. Carpe Diem is now the largest locally-owned residential cleaning service in the Triangle area. Wendy believes in the potential for businesses to create equitable solutions for issues in the community and raise the quality of life for everyone. Through her management of Carpe Diem as well as her role as Vice President of DeWhit Facility Services—a commercial cleaning service with close to 100 employees—Wendy has proven that a community-focused mindset is not limited to small businesses. This outlook inspired Wendy to purchase the historic John O’Daniel Exchange building in Northeast Central Durham in 2007. She transformed the blighted warehouse into a beautiful and affordable community-oriented space that is now home to the offices of several businesses and non-profits. In 2017 Wendy invested in remodeling the Exchange building’s event space into a charming venue managed under her latest venture, The Wedding Exchange. As Wendy continues her journey, her focus is on fostering her employees' growth to strengthen the success of her businesses. She is currently developing a training curriculum designed to help leaders achieve their full potential by unlocking the skillsets of prioritization and communication. “The keys to my success have truly been proactive goal setting and my strategies for decision making. At its heart, goal setting is really about discovering who we were created to be. Each and every one of us was brought into this world to express something unique, and goal setting enables us to unlock those works which we were created to do. I am grateful to continue to be a positive part of the thriving entrepreneurial community in Durham.”

This week, the IRC WealthCast continues its focus on Generation X as we discuss the financial, emotional and legal challenges of estate planning and blended families, both those we create as well as the blended families created by our parents. In this second episode of a two-part series, we continue the conversation with two Generation Xers — Wendy Hayes, a financial analyst who works in family law, and Michelle Thompson, a financial planner with IRC Wealth and former attorney — who discuss what they’ve learned from their personal as well as professional experiences. In sharing her family estate planning nightmare, Michelle points out that her mother thought she had taken the necessary steps to ensure her desires would be carried out, but was unable to predict her surviving spouse’s actions. In her own experience as well as when working with clients, Michelle says that in the majority of cases, it’s inevitable that a surviving spouse who controls the estate will prioritize their own children over those of their deceased spouse. She then goes on to explain how this can be avoided, including how to: Make decisions about your estate and ensure that your wishes are followed Address the tough scenarios such as biological children vs. stepchildren, surviving spouses who remarry quickly, and choosing a trustee. Be proactive and find counsel who has the savvy experience to address your specific situation Our two experts also address the importance of communication and tackling difficult conversations early in a relationship including getting into the minutia of assets as well as pre-nups and post-nups. As Wendy says, “Each family is unique due to its varying personalities. You have to find ways to work — both creatively and systematically — toward the solution that’s best for your family.” Whether you have a blended family yourself or are the product of one, tune in to learn more about the challenges these situations present, as well as how to create arrangements that are intentional, thoughtful, and respect your wishes. Everyone’s situation is different; what it takes for you to be financially independent is unique to you. If you’d like to discuss any questions or concerns you have your financial life, please contact us for a no obligation consultation to see how we can help. http://ircwealth.com/irc-wealthcast-055-estate-planning-blended-families

Wendy Hernandez has been a successful family law attorney in Phoenix, AZ for over 20 years. She has a true passion for helping families through hard times and keeps everyone's best interest at heart. As Wendy began to witness more and more heartbreaking results in the courtroom, she was motivated to create an endless stream of online content to share her knowledge with those in need. Wendy started to frequently see people in the courtroom who had good cases but were getting horrible results. They were losing time with their kids and ultimately losing the fight. This was not always in the best interest of the family so she felt compelled to do something to help these people.  Her online program called Command the Courtroom teaches people how to build their own custody case. This provides those who may not be able to afford an attorney with the knowledge they need to have a fair fight in the courtroom, at a much lower cost.  About a year ago, Wendy began to put one video a week onto YouTube answering the most common questions that she is asked. In that short period of time, Wendy has surpassed over 250,000 views on her videos and has helped countless people have a fair chance in the courtroom. Skyler and Wendy dive into her methods and how it has helped her business thrive.
