Since 1989, at least 110 people in Ohio have been freed from a wrongful conviction - including 39 serving time for murder, and 8 who were almost executed. We look closer at three cases: the exonerations of Ricky Jackson and Ronnie and Wiley Bridgeman after 39 years (Cleveland); the release of Tim Howard and Gary James after 26 years (Columbus); and Clarence Elkins' fight for freedom (Barberton). www.ohiomysteries.com feedback@ohiomysteries.com www.patreon.com/ohiomysteries www.twitter.com/mysteriesohio www.facebook.com/ohiomysteries Additional music: New Horizon - Aderin; Audionautix- The Great Unknown; The Great Phospher- Daniel Birch Learn more about your ad choices. On May 19, 1975, Harold Franks was confronted by two men as he left a grocery store in Cleveland, OH. The men demanded Franks' briefcase and, when he resisted, hit him with a pipe and splashed acid in his face. One robber then started shooting – killing Franks and injuring Ann Robinson, co-owner of the store. The perpetrators then fled in a getaway car with Franks' briefcase. Authorities soon obtained a witness statement from 12-year-old Eddie Vernon, who said that the perpetrators were 18-year-old Ricky Jackson and Ricky's friends, brothers, 17-year-old Ronnie Bridgeman (now known as Kwame Ajamu) and 20-year-old Wiley Bridgeman. Even though Eddie recanted his statements, authorities forced him to testify. Based solely on this child's coerced testimony, Kwame was convicted and sentenced to death. Jason talks to Kwame Ajamu and Terry Gilbert, Kwame's attorney. What Mississippi and the world don't need is another NFL mock draft. There have been hundreds upon hundreds in recent weeks. Instead, the Cleveland boys examine past New Orleans Saints drafts: the good, the bad and the downright ugly. They also look at what Mississippi guys are likely to go early, looking at you Emanuel Forbes and Jonathan Mingo.
So thrilled to sit down with Jenni Thomasson, Dance Captain (and more!) for the incredible Todrick Hall, on this week's episode. Like a lot of my guests, Jenni is a former FLIRT Dancer and I've been thrilled to watch her journey with Todrick and see all the magic they have created. She is such a bright light in any space she is in. I'm grateful she took the time to talk about her journey, the digital dance world, playing to your strengths as an artist, and remembering your worth as a human first. On May 19th, 1975, in front of a store in Cleveland, Ohio, two assailants robbed a man, splashed acid in his face, shot and killed him, and then fired into the store injuring the co-owner. 12 year-old Eddie Vernon was riding a bus near the scene and later bragged that he had seen Ricky Jackson, as well as Ronnie and Wiley Bridgeman commit the crime. However, according to all the other occupants of the bus, they were too far away to even see the crime. But police ignored other more compelling leads and focused on Eddie's story. When he tried to back away from the fib, they threatened to take his parents to prison if he didn't stick to the story. Eddie's false testimony at trial helped send all three young men to death row.To learn more and get involved, visit: https://law.uc.edu/real-world-learning/centers/ohio-innocence-project-at-cincinnati-law.htmlhttps://lavaforgood.com/with-jason-flom/Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom is a production of Lava for Good™ Podcasts in association with Signal Co. UN CORAZÓN ALEGRE Devoción Matutina Para Adultos 2020 Narrado por: Merari Medina Desde: New York, Estados Unidos Una cortesía de DR'Ministries y Canaan Seventh-Day Adventist Church 06 DE OCTUBRE CORAZÓN DISPUESTO «Antes sed bondadosos unos con otros, misericordiosos, perdonándoos unos a otros, como Dios también os perdonó a vosotros en Cristo» (Efesios 4:32).

While Washington Post reporter Kyle Swenson (who formerly worked for Cleveland Scene) was in town promoting his new book ("Good Kids. Bad City"), we were joined by current and former Scene writers Sam Allard and Eric Sandy to discuss the importance of journalism in holding power accountable and uncovering and telling the truth in the pursuit of justice. We also discuss their respective times working at Cleveland Scene, their involvement in starting a new wave of journalism for the publication, and the importance of alt-weeklies both in small cities and as a wake-up call to journalists who stick to the coasts, rather than taking up crucial positions in local journalism in flyover country. The intro song for this episode is "Going to Canada" by Racket Man. You can find their music on Spotify or purchase their music on bandcamp (racketman.bandcamp.com/). The outro for this episode is a beat graciously shared by aLive of Muamin Collective. Find their music on their website (muamincollective.com/) and listen to them on Spotify. Show notes and relevant articles: 1. "What the Boy Saw." Kyle's article in Scene that was the precursor to the book, and played a huge role in getting Ricky Jackson and Wiley Bridgeman freed. Recorded 3/19/16. Bernie appears to be the first presidential candidate in history to suggest that we need to reset the moral compass of our country by honoring the treaties with the Native American people. Judging from the media's response, the founding of our country on deception and genocide is something that America still wishes to hide "under the carpet". Bernie tells America why we do so at our own peril. Hillary Clinton stands in front of wrongly accused Death Row inmate Ricky Jackson at a Town Hall and instead of showing compassion lawyerspeaks her way to find any reason for the government to continue its killing. After all, our leaders have to set an example by finding SOME reason to continue their killing so that we can continue ours. President Obama stays "neutral" in the Democratic Primary bu wholeheartedly endorsing Hillary Clinton, calling for the party to unify behind her, and then having Josh Earnest deny it. This and his playing politics with mass killings in America shows how low the Democratic Party will go to maintain its vested corporate interests And an organizing minute: just because your state has voted does NOT mean it's time to STOP! Keep PHONEBANKING for Bernie!! Information on the podcast is supported by the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/whatwouldberniesandersdo/.
