This week, we continue our ongoing series of Jarvis interviews with influences, friends, pals, and so on. We pick up the story with Midnight visionary Athenar as he explains how Midnight evolved from 2003 to the present day. You will hear many parallels between the careers of Midnight and Night Demon, how Athenar grew to take Midnight more seriously year by year as their popularity expanded by leaps and bounds, and his misgivings along the way. Athenar and Jarvis break down the discography album by album, with particular emphasis on the forthcoming Steel, Rust and Disgust opus. If you care about Midnight, Night Demon, or real heavy metal, this episode is a must-listen. Enjoy. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! This week we continue the "Interviews with Jarvis" series by bringing you part 1 of his in-depth conversation with the elusive Midnight mastermind Athenar. In this discussion, Athenar digs deep into his musical history, describing his formative musical years, talking about his first albums and first concerts as an '80s kid in the Cleveland suburbs. You'll hear how he moved from band to band, experimenting and growing as a musician along the way, until he finally stumbled upon the Midnight concept in 2003. Along the way, Jarvis shares parallels from his own life and career, plus shared observations of the evolutionary musical journey that both men have navigated successfully. This week we begin exploring "Vysteria," the fourth 7" standalone single released by Night Demon in 2020 and a featured track on the new Year of the Demon compilation album. At the outset, the band members explain how this really isn't a pandemic song and how it's really about self-empowerment in the face of media manipulation and hysteria, all set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. You will learn the surprising origins and dictionary definition of the term "vysteria." Then we get into the musical genesis of the song, beginning with a jam tape dating back to August 2019 and carrying through multiple permutations and incarnations until March 2020. The guys explain how and why the song evolved over time. They also talk about whether they consider "Vysteria" to be the heaviest song in the Night Demon catalog, as well as its connection to thrash metal and how challenging it is to play.

This was a really fun one. Check out the new album by Midnight - "Let There Be Witchery" here
This week we bring you part 3 of our ongoing exploration of the Heavy Metal Mixtape limited edition cassette released on Night Demon Records in October 2015. The guys reflect on the lost art of making mixtapes and taking the listener on a journey through painstaking song selection, sequencing, flow and sound clips, in a way that today's streaming playlists simply cannot replicate. You'll hear about a pair of movie soundclips included on the Mixtape. And the song contributions of Walpyrgus, Hirax, Midnight and Satan's Hallow are discussed in detail. For each track, you'll hear from a member of the contributing band talking about the significance of compilations/mixtapes, telling the history of the band, and sharing inside info on the song in question. Jarvis explains why each song was chosen and describes any links between Night Demon and that band.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. Midnight mastermind Athenar is our guest this week. We discuss the band's new album, Rebirth by Blasphemy, and how it fits into Midnight's history starting with the band's early seven-inches, as well as the difficulty of writing lyrics in the bizarre realm of metal, if he would ever create a record with other musicians or if he always plans to maintain full creative control, and the importance of the visual aspect behind Midnight. Athenar also tells us a bit about his personal life, explaining how a Cleveland native became a fan of his hometowns rival Pittsburgh Steelers, the charm of Cleveland's negative attitude, his lifelong passion for record collecting, the possibility of a four-year-old being a tour manager for Midnight, what instruments he learned to play as a child himself, and the joy that comes with temporarily losing his cell phone. Petar, Brandon and Jozalyn discuss the passing of legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart, the legacy of what he did for drummers everywhere, and the art that Rush left behind for the world. We also mourn the passing of Black Breath's Elijah Nelson, and we talk about Lorna Shore's decision to release their album with the vocals of fired and disgraced frontman CJ McCreery. Songs: Rush - “Ceiling Unlimited," Midnight - “Fucking Speed and Darkness” and “Rising Scum”
