This week on TIme Signatures with Jim Ervin, Erv welcomes Manx Blues guitarist, straight from the Isle of Man, Davy Knowles. Davy dropped by to talk about his early years in music, largely influenced by the likes of Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, and Robert Johnson. It was the Dire Straits' Sultans of Swing that first bit Davy, and after a few guitar lessons, he chose to take the self-taught route….and the rest is history. The ensuing trail took him from John Mayall and Eric Clapton's ‘Beano Album', to Peter Green's era with Fleetwood Mac, and ultimately landing on Rory-and he was off to the races. It was a fun chat, covering some of his early work with his band, ‘Back Door Slam', and ending on his newest recorded work, ‘The Invisible Man'. We have just one episode left in Season Four….any ideas who it might be? Rockshow Episode 215 Rory GallagherRory Gallagher was an Irish blues and rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter, known for his fiery guitar playing, passionate performances, and dedication to authentic blues and rock. He was born on March 2, 1948, in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland, and raised in Cork. Gallagher gained fame in the late 1960s and 1970s, first with his power trio Taste, and later as a solo artist.
Nel discorso pubblicato sul sito internet rorygallagher.com per ricordare il trentennale della morte del fratello Rory, Donal Gallagher ha scritto: “Una volta, a un giornalista che gli chiese come gli sarebbe piaciuto essere ricordato, mio fratello rispose scherzando: ‘Nelle canzoni e nelle storie' ”Per ricordarlo in una canzone, non abbiamo la bravura per farlo; ma nelle storie sì, ed è quello che intendiamo fare, o quantomeno provarci.“In the half light, on this mad nightI hear a voice in timeWell, I look back, see a half-smileThen it's gone from sightWon't you tell me how I can find my wayIn this shadow play”Rory Gallagher, 1948-1995Seguici sui social o richiedici una puntata: Linktree Audio TapeAscolta la playlist dedicata alla puntata: - Rory Gallagher

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!Date: May 28, 2025Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioS8: E6: Graham Bonnet & Beth-Ami Heavenstone - The Legend and the Forever FriendSHOW SUMMARY:Rock legend Graham Bonnet and bassist/manager Beth-Ami Heavenstone invite listeners into their world for an intimate conversation about music, recovery, and what's next for the Graham Bonnet Band. Fresh from battling COVID-19, the pair reflects on the unique challenges vocalists face—a sentiment Bonnet captures perfectly when he states, "The voice is the hardest instrument to play... the guitar is easy compared to this." The conversation weaves through exciting announcements about their upcoming live DVD recorded at the historic Whiskey a Go Go, a venue deeply meaningful to both artists as their first performance space together. Fans will be thrilled to learn about the band's fourth studio album in progress, featuring a special collaboration with Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. Bonnet shares his creative process, including a touching tribute song to the underappreciated guitar virtuoso Rory Gallagher, revealing the thoughtful songwriter behind the powerful voice. Some of the most compelling moments emerge when Bonnet opens up about his remarkable past—from his early connection to the Bee Gees (his cousin Trevor Gordon was originally part of the group in Australia) to his heartfelt remembrance of drummer Cozy Powell, whose 1998 passing still visibly moves him. The emotional gravity in Bonnet's voice as he recalls seeing two rainbows touch the hillside after learning of Powell's death demonstrates that behind the legendary rock persona is a deeply feeling human being who treasures these connections. Between European tour preparations, managing multiple projects, and their life together raising chickens in LA, Bonnet and Heavenstone offer a refreshingly authentic glimpse into their world. Their playful banter and surprising personal revelations—Graham's unexpected love for figure skating and Antiques Roadshow, Beth-Ami's bird watching hobby—create a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes listeners feel like they're sitting in their living room. Whether you've followed Graham's career for decades or are discovering his extraordinary voice for the first time, this conversation captures the spirit of a rock legend who remains humble, creative, and utterly passionate about music.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMWWW.SIGNAD.COMWWW.RUNWAYAUDIO.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist(s) Web PageCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. Claire Tole-Moir is Head of Popular Culture at Bonhams, the world-famous auction house in London. On a daily basis, she is in direct contact with some of the most iconic and culturally impactful works of modern art, sculpture, photography, film and artist memorabilia of the last century. So if you fancy a Man Ray photograph; a golden ticket from the original Charlie and The Chocolate Factory film; if you've got your eye on John Lennon's mosaic swimming pool; or maybe Roger Moore's silver Dupont cigar lighter, Claire and her team can make that happen for you. All you have to do is submit the winning bid. And then, there are the guitars… Let me tell you about the guitars! We're talking serious instruments owned by iconic musicians: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joy Division, Radiohead, Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, Slash, Peter Green...the list is ever-growing. Which to my mind begs the question: What's it like, being responsible for the sale of guitars that have changed the history of modern music and impacted our global culture on a seismic level? Well, there's only one way to find out! I met up with Claire Tole-Moir at Bonhams in Knightsbridge London. There was a palpable sense of excitement as it had recently been made public that Bonhams is about to handle the sale of one of the most immediately recognizable guitars on earth, Rory Gallagher's extraordinary Fender Stratocaster! Yes, THAT STRAT! I think you'll agree that's pretty awesome. So join us now at Bonhams in the heart of London to find out more. Comprising the Brothers Kinnon (Chris on vocals and guitar; Jeff on drums), riff-master Sean Casey (guitar), and classically educated bass player Enzo Figliuzzi, the Canadian/California-based band has played with everybody from garage legends like the Dirtbombs to arena stars Kings of Leon, making SXSW best-of lists numerous times, and in between hanging out with the Rolling Stones' legendary manager Andrew Loog Oldham. But putting integrity first had a cost: obscurity. Lions in the Street began their career by signing and then walking away from the troubled TVT Records (NIN, Pitbull, Little Jon), Nickelback's 604 Records (Carly Rae Jepson), and legendary manager Allen Kovac (Motley Crue, The Cars, Blondie, The Bee Gees), earning them a spot on the music industry's blacklist. Years in the wilderness resulted—working as a garbageman for almost a decade, surviving cancer, serious workplace injuries, and almost deadly car accidents, and going back to school. Yet, despite experiencing the best and worst of the of old music business—from hanging out with Todd Rundgren, Bob Ezrin, and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, to seeing an A&R guy almost fired just for going to see them play—the band somehow kept going, releasing music piecemeal. For example, Lions in the Street released an EP in 2013 on British legend Sandy Roberton's label. Roberton ran Blue Horizon, the English label that launched the 60s British Blues rock movement with John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, and Rory Gallagher. Now the streaming platforms revolution has given Lions in the Street a new life an audience, allowing them to release largely-unheard music—finally finished and remixed/remastered.
