This week we continue the "Interviews with Jarvis" series by bringing you part 1 of his in-depth conversation with the elusive Midnight mastermind Athenar.  In this discussion, Athenar digs deep into his musical history, describing his formative musical years, talking about his first albums and first concerts as an '80s kid in the Cleveland suburbs.  You'll hear how he moved from band to band, experimenting and growing as a musician along the way, until he finally stumbled upon the Midnight concept in 2003.  Along the way, Jarvis shares parallels from his own life and career, plus shared observations of the evolutionary musical journey that both men have navigated successfully. Live at the Bop Stop

It's Jazz, it just doesn't sound like it. Or, at least, that's what Oz Noy will tell you. I'm not so sure I agree with that, but we're delighted to have the chance to let you be the judge. Since 1996, Oz Noy has regularly toured in trio and quartets with more musicians than we have time to list here. Although some of us will remember Will Lee and Anton Fig. This sold out show was the first of two shows in support of his tenth release Triple Play. Featuring Oz Noy on Guitar, Dennis Chambers on Drums and Jimmy Haslip on Bass, and from a September 30th, 2023 performance it's the Oz Noy Trio – Live at the Bop Stop.

Hi everyone! On this week's TALK MUSIC podcast, I'm thrilled to interview Derbyshire, UK native and guitar ace, the legend CHRIS SPEDDING Having recently seen him play live with ANTON FIG on drums and KEITH LENTON on bass, I can vouch that, at 79 years young, Chris still has it! His illustrious career includes session work with Cream bass player Jack Bruce, Harry Nilsson, Elton John, Brian Eno, Tom Waits, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, John Cale, Roger Daltrey and Paul McCartney (“Give My Regards to Broad Street”), to name a few.  Spedding has also worked as a producer, mixer and musician on a number of projects by Toronto-area punk rock acts: Teenage Head, Forgotten Rebels, Viletones, the Curse, the Ugly, the Demics, the ‘B' Girls, the Mods, the Sinisters, Toby Swann, Johnnie Lovesin and Art Bergmann. Our chat also includes his time spent touring and recording with ROBERT GORDON, his involvement in how he ended up producing the first demos for the SEX PISTOLS, and how ‘MOTORBIKIN” became a top 20 hit in the UK.  I also had the pleasure of working with Chris many years ago when I produced a version of the track “New York City” by the Demics that ended up on his solo album CAFE DAYS which I released on my Hypnotic label. Enjoy!

This week Tom & Zeus review the 1979 polarizing KISS album, "Dynasty." This was KISS' 7th studio album and the 21st KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Dynasty was the first studio album since Love Gun in 1977. This was the longest time between studio albums for KISS. It was the last studio to feature all original members until Psycho Circus in 1998. The album was produced by Vini Poncia, who Peter Criss demanded and had previously produced Peter's 1978 solo album. The band was definitely changing. Super KISS had been formed. The band wore flashier outfits with capes and became more comic book-like. They experimented with more pop and yes, even disco, with their huge international smash, "I Was Made For Lovin' You, written with this new upcoming songwriter, Desmond Child. Producer Vini Poncia was instrumental in this new sound, however the band did write some of their best songs, like the brilliant, "Sure Know Something." Yes brilliant! However, this departure in sound and style alienated a lot of the KISS Army. The album also featured all four members sing at least on song, just as they did on Love Gun. However, this album featured Ace Frehley on three songs, by far his most. Gene Simmons only sang on only two. The album also featured ghost player, Anton Fig on drums. Peter Criss only played drums on his song, "Dirty Livin'." The album cover was the iconic photo of the four faces of the band. The inside photo of the band in black also became legendary. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. This week Tom & Zeus review KISS: Story Of Their Songs which just debuted on the REELZ network. The REELZ station has series called, Story Of Their Songs, which explores songs of a band that help define them. For KISS, they examine three songs that helped KISS establish themselves as one of the greatest rock bands ever. For KISS, the series selects 3 KISS songs and then they have special guests breakdown the tracks in between videos, interviews with the band and a narrator who gives a general information about the band's history. This episode has many familiar faces such as Eddie Trunk, Dee Snider, Martin Popoff and more. However, it also includes Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Ken Sharp, Marty Friedman, Anton Fig, Producer Michael James Jackson, Riki Rachtman, Engineer Jay Messina, Art Director Dennis Woloch and more. The boys discuss the one hour episode and debate the three songs chosen by REELZ as quintessential songs in KISS' career. They then rank the documentary against the previously reviewed KISS documentaries on SIOL. So tune and make sure you look out for Tom's real time reaction to newest product that will go in the SIOL Hall of Fame.  For all things Shout It Out Loudcast check out our amazing website by clicking below: www.ShoutItOutLoudcast.com Interested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content?  Care to help us out?  Come join us on Patreon by clicking below: SIOL Patreon Shop At Our Amazon Store by clicking below: Shout It Out Loudcast Amazon Store Please go to Klick Tee Shop for all your Shout It Out Loudcast Merchandise by clicking below:SIOL Merchandise at Klick Tee Shop Please Email us comments or suggestions by clicking below:ShoutItOutLoudcast@Gmail.com Please subscribe to us and give us a 5 Star (Child) review on the following places below:iTunesPodchaserStitcheriHeart RadioSpotify  Please follow us and like our social media pages clicking below:TwitterFacebook PageFacebook Group Page Shout It Out LoudcastersInstagramYouTube Please check out our sponsor FusionTech Data & Electric for all your data and electrical needs by clicking below:FusionTech Data And Electric Proud Member of the Pantheon Podcast click below to see the website:Pantheon Podcast Network

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Á sama tíma og KISS voru að klára upptökur á sinni áttundu hljóðversplötu árið 1980 var Peter Criss mættur í hljóðverið sjálfur ásamt Stan sínum Penridge til að taka upp sína aðra sólóplötu. Okkar menn gáfu svo út Unmasked þann 20.maí 1980 og þrátt fyrir að Peter bregði fyrir á framhlið plötunnar var það Anton Fig sem hana trommaði, en það var gert opinbert tveimur dögum fyrir útgáfu hennar að Peter hefði yfirgefið bandið. KISS fundu Eric Carr „The Fox“ til að leysa „Catmanninn“ af og the rest is history. Það sem er ekki eins mikið history hins vegar er þessi fyrrnefnda önnur sólóplata Peters okkar sem kom svo út í byrjun september þetta sama ár, 1980. Sú plata var gefin út af Casablanca rétt eins og Unmasked og ber hún heitið Out of control. Nú ætlaði Peterinn halda sína eigin leið og sýna þar með öðrum meðlimum KISS að hann væri sko maðurinn. Enda var hann jú maðurinn sem söng og "samdi" MEGA hittarann „Beth“ þarna 4 árum fyrr. Ikke? Við kíkjum nánar bæði á plötuna Out of control í þættinum sem og skoðum stórfurðulegt atvik í lífi Peters nokkrum árum síðar......ásamt svo auðvitað fleiru til. Robert Miller is a musician who followed his youthful dream later in life and became a Rock Star when he was in his 60s, an age when most people are planning their retirement. He's living proof that you're never too old, and it's never too late, to follow your dream. In just 5+ years Robert and his band, Project Grand Slam, have released 10 celebrated albums, including a Billboard #1, have had over 4 million video views, over 1 million Spotify streams, and gained more than 50,000 Facebook fans. He's played festivals and concerts around the world and opened for Edgar Winter, Blues Traveler, Boney James, Mindi Abair, and an after-show for YES.In March 2021 Robert started the Follow Your Dream Podcast to inspire and motivate others to pursue and succeed at their dream – whatever it may be. Robert's initial podcast guests have included “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, America's most famous radio personality; Anton Fig, drummer on The David Letterman Show; Mort Crim, longtime Detroit television anchor; Robert Funaro, star of The Sopranos; Steve Katz of Blood Sweat & Tears; and I'm pleased to say I've managed to sneak on as a guest, too.  Robert wrote the Follow Your Dream Handbook to accompany the podcast. The handbook is part memoir, telling his unique and compelling story, and part how-to, explaining his DREAM theory - the exact steps that he followed and that readers can follow in order to pursue and succeed at their dream.

That's a character. That's another person. I'm just Joe the guitar nerd." "It's going to be challenging to get consumer confidence back going forward - out of this pandemic." His response when asked if he'd be interested in trying out for UFO: "I'll try out for the Bay City Rollers. I need a gig. I'm 18 years old and want to get out of my parents' house and play music professionally. So, I drove out to Pete Ways' house... it was fun 'cause we were ripping through Rock Bottom..." Jimmy Buffett [01:17] "Dallas" A1A ABC Dunhill DSD-50183 1974 Still the decent country-oriented Buffett. This one was penned by the Coral Reefer's guitarist Roger Bartlett. Made it to number 25 on the Billboard 200. Darryl Hall & John Oates [04:42] "She's Gone" Abandoned Luncheonette Atlantic Records SD 7269 1973 To be honest, I really like "Las Vegas Turnaround", the track that precedes "She's Gone" but sometimes you just have to go with the hits. It's possible that somewhere out there in listener land, there is someone who has never heard "She's Gone". Hit #33 on the charts and turned platinum 29 years after its release. ABBA [10:09] "SOS" ABBA Atlantic Records SD 18146 1975 Too many tracks to choose from! I almost went with "Hey Hey Helen" but in the I had to send for help. While the album only just dented the Billboard 200 reaching #174, as a single "SOS" made it to #15 on the Hot 100. Count Basie Orchestra [13:31] "Jumpin' at the Woodside" The ABC Collection ABC Records AC-30004 1976 A 1976 reissue of Count Basie's 1969 Dot Records release Standing Ovation, recorded at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. Chelsea Wolfe [18:49] "Crazy Love" Abyss Sargent House SH141 2015 Continuing her evolution, this is one of the more brooding tracks from this excellent Sargent House release. This was also the first Chelsea Wolfe album to chart, making it up to #130. I'll also take this opportunity to let interested parties know that if you have the opportunity to see Chelsea Wolfe live, you should do it. Kiss [22:21] "New York Groove" Ace Frehley Casablanca Records NBLP 7121 1978 Back in the New York Groove, backed by such NY session musicians as Anton Fig and Will Lee. Of course this album made it well into the Billboard 200, peaking out at 26. It was also certified platinum a month after its release. Of course this is in the pre-Soundscan days, so that just meant that 1,000,000 copies of the album were shipped out, which explains why I picked up this remaindered copy for $1. Luke Sweeney [25:29] "Sympathy for the Night" Adventure: Us Aerobic International 2014 Speaking of grooves, this track by Bay Area musican Luke Sweeney has a very solid one. Nilsson [28:30] "One" Aerial Ballet RCA Victor LSP-3956 1968 Again, so many great songs to choose from, some of which we'll hear as we progress through the season, but I decided to go with this "One" ^.^ While this track failed to chart as a single, a year later Three Dog Night would take their rendition all the way up to number 5 on the Hot 100. Havens, Richie [32:45] "To Give All Your Love Away" Alarm Clock Stormy Forest SFS 6005 1971 A vert solid jam from Ritchie Haven's most successful album, featuring Rick Derringer on electric guitar. Monty Python [35:37] "Constitutional Peasants" Album to the Soundtrack of the Trailer of the Film of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Executive Version Arista AB 4050 1975 Seems relevant. Alison Moyet [38:37] "Honey for Bees" Alf Columbia Records BFC 39956 1984 A solo outing from the vocal powerhouse half of Yaz, produced by early 80s mega producers Jolley & Swain. Patti Austin covered this song as a single a year later and took it into the top dance club singles. Moev [42:48] "Alibis" Alibis Nettwerk 12 NTWK 11 1984 I had almost forgotten about this Canadian synth pop outfit. I had their album Yeah, Whatever once upon a time as a cassette, and then this 12" single recently made it into my collection. Hakuna matata. The She’s [49:22] "Eva's Interlude/Anywhere But Here" All Female Rock and Roll Quartet Empty Cellar Records EMP 034 2017 Great band, great album, and a great interlude! The vinyl release has a fantastic bookley featuring artwork by women who inspire the band. Earth, Wind & Fire [54:24] "Magic Mind" All n’ All Columbia Records 34905 1977 Yet still even more hot stuff from Earth Wind & Fire. The gents made it all the way up to number 3 on the album charts and went on to go triple platinum. Diana Ross [58:09] "Upside Down" All the Great Hits Motown M13-960C2 1981 Defintely enjoying the handywork of Chic's Nile Rodger and Bernard Edwards on this late-disco classic. Sarah Vaughan [01:02:15] "It's Delovely" All Time Favorites Mercury Wing MGW 12123 1965 Two great classics that taste great together. I'm talking about Sarah Vaughan and Cole Porter. We Pick Our Top 5 WASP Songs - Ep321

We're back this week to share our favorite songs by Sunset Strip legends WASP! In 1982 Blackie Lawless builds WASP was built to shock. Their over-the-top image garnered a ton of attention in an already-growing LA music scene. From Lawless' buzzsaw codpiece to models being tied to a torture rack to throwing raw meat into the audience, WASP takes the blueprint set by Alice Cooper and KISS and elevates it to raunchy new heights. Amid all of the theatricality, though, lay some of the best hard rock music of the decade and beyond. WASP   While Blackie Lawless remains the constant in WASP's career, the band has featured a number of fantastic musicians and incarnations over the years. The early days of the band included bassists Rik Fox and Don Costa and, later, Johnny Rod. Notably, some amazing guitarists have graced albums by WASP including Chris "Mean Man" Holmes, Randy Piper, Darrell Roberts, and Bob Kulick. Additionally, a who's who of rock drumming history have passed through the WASP ranks including Tony Richards, Frankie Banali, Stet Howland, Steve Riley, Mike Dupke, and Randy Black. The band currently surrounding Lawless features Doug Blair, Mike Duda, and Aquiles Priester. As mentioned in the show, we're showcasing our personal Top 5 WASP Songs. You're getting great tracks from virtually all eras of their more than thirty year career. In conclusion, it's a deep dive into one of the landmark metal bands of the 1980s and beyond. We hope you enjoy Top 5 WASP Songs and SHARE with a friend! Also don't miss your chance to enter for a chance to win the KISSTORY GUITAR RAFFLE! My guest this episode is Mr. Oz Noy. One of the most accomplished guitarists out there on the scene today, Oz has it all- amazing chops, vocabulary, technique, all delivered with touch, soul and tone. His 9 solo records capture all of this and, if that's not enough there's more; he uses the best rhythm sections in the world, surrounding himself with drummers including Dave Weckl, Keith Carlock, Anton Fig and bassists Will Lee, James Genus and Jimmy Haslip. As you'll hear in the podcast, touring all over the world with his own music isn't what he originally set out to do, but it's nice work if you can get it. He also has a nice resume of backing up artists in the studio and live such as Gavin Degraw, Richard Bona, Chris Botti,Harry Belafonte, Cyndi Lauper, Clay Aiken, Akiko Yano and more. He also has a new band that you'll hear about called Ozone Squeeze. In this interview we'll discuss his early years in Tel Aviv, moving to NYC, putting together his first record (Oz Live) and how he rehearses the bands, pedals- (he'll talk about what his favorite most useful pedal is), his instructional videos for True Fire, current state of the blues in his opinion, influences and much, much more. Plus you get my usual doses of sarcasm and bad humor. Amanda Blue was the lead singer of one of those great rock and roll with a touch of new wave bands of the late 70s/early 80s called Spider. They cracked the top 40 once in 1980 when "New Romance" reached #39, but after two albums, they changed their name to Shanghai and released one more album before calling it quits and Amanda embarked on a solo career. What might be most interesting about Spider are the many recognizable names that circled their orbit. The band was discovered by Kiss and managed by Bill Aucoin (Gene Simmons also managed Amanda for a while). Also, one of the band members was Holly Knight, who would go on to be one of the most successful songwriters of all time ("Love is a Battlefield", "Simply The Best", "The Warrior", etc). And, the drummer, and Amanda's ex-husband, was Anton Fig, who would land the steadiest gig in music as the drummer for David Letterman's band. Amanda now makes healing her life's mission, which we talk a lot about. Lovely lady with an amazing story.  http://amandablueleigh.com/

When KISS decided to drop their trademark makeup in 1983, many fans from the band's 1970's glory years were perplexed when they saw a diminutive figure sitting next to Gene Simmons and loudly questioned, "Where's Ace?!"  For the general music-buying public, the once Hottest Band in the Land had become a niche curiosity with dwindling popularity. Ever-changing lineups and forays into different genres had watered down the band and turned off many in their core audience. It stand to reason that many of KISS' old school fans weren't aware that Frehley himself had grown disenchanted with the group's direction and left the previous year. With KISS' unmasking in 1983, many fans started wondering what happened to their favorite Spaceman and what his musical plans would be for the future. Our guest this week was instrumental in what happened next. John Regan is commonly known amongst KISS fans as the bassist for Frehley's Comet but his resume tells a much bigger story. John was nice enough to talk to Chris & Aaron this week about his 30+ year career in the music industry, working with artists such as Ace Frehley, the Rolling Stones, and Peter Frampton.  We start in 1980 with Regan's first meeting with Ace Frehley while collaborating on mutual friend "Crazy" Joe Renda's Variable Speed Band album that featured the quirky Frehley-penned single 'Eugene.' Regan shares how Renda and North Lake Sound Studios in White Plains, NY would continue to be crucial in the advancement of his musical career. In this long-form discussion Regan shares how he first started working with Peter Frampton in 1982 and the marathon 3 day cram-session to learn Frampton's entire live set. This would mark the beginning of a friendship and musical bond that would bring the two together numerous times over the next three decades. 1985-86 would see Regan working with legendary artists such as David Bowie and Mick Jagger. In this discussion you'll hear his recollections of recording with the two for their 1985 duet of 'Dancin' in the Street' as well as his memories of working with the Rolling Stones during the sessions for the Dirty Work album.  A bit of recording and touring in 1984 with Frehley would lay the foundation that Regan would return to in 1987 as Megaforce Records picked up Frehley's Comet and backed the new lineup featuring Frehley, Regan, drummer Anton Fig, and gutiarist/vocalist Tod Howarth. John shares his memories of the recording process for the album and the difficulties that came up after Fig was given the full-time job as the drummer for David Letterman's band.  Regan shares his memories of working with Jamie Oldaker as the legendary drummer took over the drum stool in the Comet. Some Comet fans throughout the years have expressed resentment that Oldaker didn't "fit" the Frehley sound and, in this discussion, you'll hear Regan's reaction to that criticism. Also in this long-form talk, Regan shares his thoughts on Eddie Trunk and his place in helping get Ace Frehley back into the public consciousness. "I don't think Ace would have got signed if it weren't for Eddie being the real force behind it."  Regan shares how Trunk was adamant about Frehley's potential and swayed Megaforce president Jon Zazula to give the former KISS axe-man a shot. He also shares, later in the interview, how he heard that Trunk has been telling Frehley that a Comet reunion would not be a good idea. Regan also tells us his opinion of Second Sighting and how he thinks the Live +4 album that was shoehorned in between it and the debut may have sabotaged the band's potential growth. John also notes that the absence of Eddie Kramer behind the board may have hindered the album's sound but how there are also some shining moments as well. 1989 saw Frehley release Trouble Walkin'. With Kramer back behind the board and Richie Scarlet replacing Tod Howarth on guitar, the album had a grittier feel than the earlier Comet material and also did not bear the Comet tag. Regan explains why Howarth may have left the group and what went into the decision to not bill this lineup as Frehley's Comet. We also ask Regan his opinion of claims made by Gordon Gebert in his KISS & Tell book that involve Regan producing Frehley-related live & greatest hits packages as a method for recouping money owed to him by Ace.  Other topics touched on in this hour plus interview include Regan's work with artists such as Michael Monroe and David Lee Roth. We also ask John some listener questions that were sent in.  There's a lot to get to in this discussion and we barely scratched the surface. John was a great sport and we really appreciate him appearing on the show. We hope you enjoy this talk. Buy Music!
