I metalåret 1987 stod den på både heavy-hits og benhård metal: på den ene side poppet metalrock som Def Leppard og megasællerten “Hysteria”, og det nye Whitesnakes “1987” album. På den anden side hårdføre bands som de danske thrash-konger Artillery og dødsmetal-pionererne Death. Sat lidt på spidsen, selvfølgelig, for der var også de bands, som hverken var det ene eller det andet; eksempelvis Guns n' Roses og deres gedigne gennembruds-debutalbum “Appetite For Destruction” og King Diamonds fuldendte metalværk “Abigail”. Og så bød 1987 også på stor international opmærksomhed på andre danske og delvist danske bandprojekter som Pretty Maids, White Lion og Metallica. Metalåret 1987 gennemgås af Jens "Jam" Rasmussen, studievært, og det faste og fornemme triumvirat af studiegæsterne Steffen Jungersen, Michael Stützer Hansen og Michael Denner. Nedslagspunkter: - Det hårdt rockende metalår 1987 må nødvendigvis bydes velkommen af Guns N' Roses og “Welcome To the Jungle”. Samme Motörhead, som sprængte samtlige volumeskalaer ved deres koncertbesøg. - Jungersen, Stützer og Rasmussen tager den decibel-blæsende tur tilbage til legendariske Saga i 1987. København, hvor også Manowar skruede op. - Vi fortsætter til Sagas genbo og “lillebror” Carlton, hvor studieværten headbanger ind i sin makkers hoved til showet med Helloween, Running Wild og Overkill, og rammes af en stagedivers militærstøvler til showet med Artillery og Destruction samme sted. YEAH! - Michael Stützer fokuserer mest på sit guitarspil og sit band, hvilket resulterer i det andet Artillery album, “Terror Squad”, som fører an i den europæiske thrash metal-liga sammen med Kreator og førnævnte Destruction. - I januar ‘87 genoptager Metallica deres Europa-turné. Først i Falkoner Teatret, København, og dagen efter i Holstebro Hallen. Senere på året udkommer bandets første indspilning med bassisten Jason Newsted, cover-EP'en "Garage Days The 5,98 Dollar EP". - Fuld smæk på Bay Area-scenen, hvor Exodus udsender album nr. 2 “Pleasures of the Flesh”, Testament deres debutalbum "The Legacy" og Death Angel deres debut “The Ultra-Violence”. Sidstnævnte med en chokerende optræden på hovedscenen på årets Roskilde Festival. - På østkysten rykker Anthrax med “Among The Living”, og der tærskes løs fra Brasilien til Birmingham. Fra Sepultura til Napalm Death. Og i Tampa Bay, Florida udsender Death deres genredefinerende debut “Scream Bloody Gore”. - Michael Denner dukker op i studiet, hvor han og Jungersen tager pulsen på årets danske/dansk-relaterede udspil fra White Lion, Pretty Maids og Denners eget King Diamond, der udsender deres episke hovedværk “Abigail”. Und Krieg ist ihr Name. Durch diese Dystopie kämpfen sich unbeirrt zwei Männer: Pint Eastwood und Kain Morgenmeer. Mit sich bringen sie die 82. Episode der Plattnerei, in der es um das elfte Studioalbum der deutschen Thrash-Metal-Giganten Kreator geht."Enemy of God” heißt es und erschien 2005. Na een bezoek aan Damnation Festival in Engeland en Rockstadt Extreme Fest in Roemenië zoekt Osmium - de zwaarste podcast in het Nederlands - het deze editie dichter bij huis. Het Belgische Alcatraz pronkt in 2025 met flinke namen als Kreator, Extreme en Machine Head op de line-up, maar het zijn kwaliteitsbands als Messa, Alkerdeel, Wytch Hazel en Drowning Pool die Osmium over de streep weten te trekken. Alcatraz wordt al jaren geroemd om zijn gezellige sfeer, vlotte organisatie en leuke aankleding. Hoog tijd dus dat Niels en Pim eens langs komen om de sfeer te verzieken. De goede (en minder goede) herinneringen bespreken ze uitgebreid in deze aflevering. Maar gelukkig doen ze dat niet alleen! Na vijftig opnames zonder gast in de podcast komt daar abrupt verandering in. Drawing from the darker, more extreme elements of Death, Slayer, and Kreator, New Jersey's Ripping Corpse set out to break free from the conventions of their death and thrash metal peers.Though their time together was short-lived, the band was relentless in their pursuit of sonic intensity, honing their craft through constant rehearsals and several demos. Under the guidance of guitarist Shaune Kelley, many of these songs culminated in their sole full-length release, Dreaming with the Dead.Combining the blistering technicality of death metal with a raw, hardcore attitude, the album was remarkably ahead of its time. Sadly, issues with the band's label and management halted the band's momentum before they could develop their sound further.Regardless, Dreaming with the Dead stands as both a powerful statement and precursor of things to come. Several members would later carry the torch in the equally intense Dim Mak. This album marks a significant moment for the band, as it is their first release with original vocalist Ezra Haynes since his 2015 departure following the “Elements Of The Infinite” album. The return of Haynes brings back Allegaeon's brutal and technically dazzling sound, which fans have been eagerly awaiting. The band's latest single, “Driftwood,” serves as a powerful introduction to the new record, with its unique blend of melodic, technical death metal — a sound Haynes describes as “melotech.” “We're just so happy to finally release new music,” said Greg Burgess. “We're working on a full album's worth of material, but I feel like it's gonna drop kind of in chunks and then hopefully the rest of it all at once kind of thing.” Recording once again with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio studio in Denver, Allegaeon continues their 17-year relationship with the producer. “Dave always provides a comfortable working environment, amazing ideas, and a career-spanning understanding of what has made Allegaeon, Allegaeon,” added Burgess. The album's overarching theme focuses on various perspectives of death, with each track exploring a unique viewpoint.
