This week, we continue our ongoing series of Jarvis interviews with influences, friends, pals, and so on. We pick up the story with Midnight visionary Athenar as he explains how Midnight evolved from 2003 to the present day. You will hear many parallels between the careers of Midnight and Night Demon, how Athenar grew to take Midnight more seriously year by year as their popularity expanded by leaps and bounds, and his misgivings along the way. Athenar and Jarvis break down the discography album by album, with particular emphasis on the forthcoming Steel, Rust and Disgust opus. If you care about Midnight, Night Demon, or real heavy metal, this episode is a must-listen. Enjoy. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! This week we bring you another installment in the series of Jarvis Leatherby interviews with contemporaries, peers, influences, and friends. Our subjects this week are Adam Neal and Stacey Savage, founding members of occult Kentucky true metal stalwarts Savage Master. In this wide-ranging conversation, Jarvis, Adam and Stacey cover the origins of the band, the evolution of the underground traditional heavy metal scene in the United States, the writing and recording processes, band relationships, the fallacies of the glamorous rock'n'roll lifestyle mythos, and the challenges of putting on your best show in less-than-ideal circumstances. Rock n Roll has no rulz. But I'm sure when we're consuming our fave artists, we all have our own guidelines. Especially when it comes to the all important vinyl. I know when we're digging in the shops we have our own "do's and don'ts". Where's our shopping preferences? What about pic discs and coloured vinyl? And what about Walmart? So this week we do a deep dive into our favourite pastime of digging through the record bins. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we celebrate Thin Lizzy Day and share the fun of our recent golf trip (!). Musically, we crank new and used from Primordial, Savage Master, The Hanson Bros., Jawless, Teaser Sweet, Genocidal Rites, Phantom and introduce India's Sacrifix in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!

Chris Savage is a master at pivoting. He co-founded Wistia with his best friend in his living room, originally aiming to create an online filmmaking competition platform. When that didn't work, they shifted to portfolio tools and later to secure video hosting for businesses, which became Wistia's core offering. Chris wasn't afraid to turn down major clients like HBO when their goals didn't align. Despite running a $300k monthly loss and receiving multiple life-changing acquisition offers, he rejected them and took on $17.3M in debt to continue growing the business. In this episode, Chris opens up to Ilana about the highs and lows of building Wistia, how he made tough decisions, and what it takes to build a lasting business. This week the boys get all spiffed up to attend the 2023 Tony Awards! No, not those Tony awards. The ones where we hand out golden pentagrams to bands that wear their denim and leather proudly! What's old is new again with the re-interpretation of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal known as New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal! NWOTHM is a product of post-screamo and the internet. Younger bands trying to recapture that old-school metal sound with lots of juicy guitarmonies.
Now here's an outfit that makes us howl! T.O.'s Deadwolff impressed us last year when their self titled EP came across our desk. The 'Wolff are a cool Canadian trio heavily influenced by the early 80s HR/NWOBHM with a modern flare. So when they recently came through town we jumped at the opportunity to turn a Wednesday night into a Saturday night! We sat down with the entire pack and go over the whys and wherefores behind the howl. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we go over the Vince Neil teleprompter "controversy". Musically, we crank some Deadwolff + new and used from Savage Master, Witchfynde, Werewolves, Molder, Temple of Void, 30 Immolated; 16 Returned and we introduce Vancouver's Thirteen Goats in our "Indie Spotlight". Did you hear the news? After a hiatus since October 2018, the legendary Frost and Fire Festival is back. This year's installment is being held in Derry, Northern Ireland on June 17-18, 2022. In honor of this special event, we look back in this episode on the history of Frost and Fire. We begin appropriately enough at the beginning, by discussing Jarvis's history of promoting live shows since his teenage years. Then we fast forward to 2015, when the original Frost and Fire Festival idea was born as a way of bringing the metal masses to Ventura, California, spurred onward by the prospect of a signing session with reclusive Ventura metal heroes Cirith Ungol. You will hear how the Frost and Fire Festival concept evolved from that, culminating in a special event in London headlined by Angel Witch in May 2018. Jarvis addresses the future of Frost and Fire, including possibilities back in Ventura and on Catalina Island. But for now, all eyes are on Derry, Northern Ireland for June 2022. Get your tickets and make plans to be there while you still can.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. On May 1, 2020, Night Demon released their second 7" single of 2020, featuring new original track "Kill the Pain" on the A-side. That song is a prominent part of the Year of the Demon compilation album to be released in March 2022. In this episode, you'll hear the original press release for the single, learn about the vinyl variants, and discover why the physical release was so limited. Then we examine the history of the song, beginning with the original riff tape recorded in Louisville, Kentucky in 2015. The band explains how that riff resurfaced in 2018 during a stint in Hamburg, Germany, and how Night Demon began shaping it into the song it ultimately became. Multiple demos from various times are aired, with band members explaining what changes had been made and why. They discuss how the live version diverges from the recorded version. We end this episode with Night Demon making the long journey to Copenhagen, Denmark to record the track with the assistance of legendary producer Flemming Rasmussen. This week, Bushy and Metal Mike turn our sights on an overlooked area of the rock/metal scene: The Underground. We begin the episode with an interview conducted with Lansing, Michigan area vocalist Brandon Hartman and guitarist Dominic "Dom" Mosher, of the band Let It Rot, and introduce you to their music through the track "Lake of Fire". After the interview, we discuss some underground bands that we think need your attention and support! And include some music from these bands. Featured this week: Let It Rot, 13Pagan Holiday13, Liliac, Terrifier, Crypt Sermon, Savage Master, Lake Effect Mud, and Haunt, in no particular order. So, if you haven't delved into the underground, check this out. We feel many sub-genres of hard rock/heavy metal are represented here. We also discuss a little more RockNPod, as we are in full RockNPod prep mode! ENJOY!!!
This week we bring you part 5 of our exploration of the Heavy Metal Mixtape, a limited edition cassette released on Night Demon Records in October 2015. The band explains why there was no pre-order or pre-release hype for the Mixtape, and how that meshes with Night Demon's marketing philosophy. They also talk about the importance of featuring bands on the Mixtape with whom Night Demon has a direct relationship. The bulk of the episode is devoted to the Mixtape contributions of Visigoth, Savage Master, Salvacion and Venomous Maximus. In each case, you will hear detailed commentary from Jarvis, as well as band members, about the band's history, its connection to Night Demon, and the significance and meaning of the song. There is a heartfelt tribute to the late, dearly missed Carlos Denogean. And a couple of audio clips are discussed, including a must-hear story about Jarvis's 12th birthday party.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. This week's episode is the first of multiple installments discussing the Heavy Metal Mixtape, which Night Demon released on October 31, 2015. Jarvis and Dusty describe the circumstances and thought processes that inspired the Mixtape, how the band relationships and camaraderie were critical to the project, and the reasons why there are no exclusive tracks on this compilation. You will learn why "Screams in the Night" was selected as the first proper song on the Mixtape. The remainder of the episode is devoted to the band Riot V, whose song "Metal Warrior" is featured as track 2 on the Heavy Metal Mixtape. You will hear the tragic and uplifting history of Riot V as told by current members Don Van Stavern and Todd Michael Hall, how they came to be included in the Mixtape, why Riot are such a beloved band in the Night Demon camp, and why Night Demon aspire to carry the torch and honor the legacy of the late, great Riot founding member Mark Reale. Members of Night Demon and Riot V describe why "Metal Warrior" has special meaning to them.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. We're convinced there's more than one Matt Harvey. Somewhere about 10 years ago while on tour driving on a Texas backroad, Mr. Harvey was abducted by aliens. He was cloned then unleashed upon an unsuspecting Metal world. All of this is judging by the amount of creative output the man has given us. Most noted for his death metal band Exhumed, Mr. Harvey is involved in a number of amazing outfits. The most recent is the new record "Breaking The World" from trad metallers Pounder. Being old buds with the show, we had a great chat about the new album, the back story with Carcass' Tom Draper and his unofficial connection to pro wrasslin'. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we crank the new Pounder plus some rereleased classic Sacred Reich, Harlott, Holocausto, Savage Master, Tyrant, Wooded Stake, Terminal Bliss and introduced Canadian rockers Feed After Midnight in our "Indie Spotlight".
