In a special edition of the Channels Podcast, Geraldine Van der Auwera interviews four members of the Nextflow community attending the 2023 nf-core hackathon: Raquel Manzano, Edmund Miller, Rieke Hanssen and Francesco Lescai. Recorded in-person at the Nextflow Summit Barcelona, we hear a bit about what they have been working on, how they came to use Nextflow and what motivated them to join the nf-core hackathon.
In a special edition of the Channels Podcast, Phil Ewels chats to Geraldine Van der Auwera! Geraldine Van der Auwera, Director of Outreach and Communications for Data Sciences Platform at the Broad Institute, joins Conversations in the Cloud to discuss the Broad Institute’s collaboration with Intel and Intel Select Solutions for Genomics Analytics. The Intel-Broad Center for Genomic Data Engineering was launched in 2017 and works to optimize data pipelines and make data available more quickly. Genomics analysis creates enormous amounts of data to process, and together they developed Intel Select Solutions for Genomics Analytics. Geraldine finds value in Select Solutions because the provided configurations are tailored for genomics workloads. They are verified by Intel, customized for complicated genomics pipelines, and ready to work right out of the box. The result is end-to-end processing that’s faster and won’t create a backlog. Learn more about the Broad Institute at intel.com/broadinstitute and GATK at gatk.broadinstitute.org. In this podcast series, Gerd and his colleague, Petervan, are talking through the Chapters of Gerd Leonhard's book "Technology vs Humanity". Here is their latest podcast based on Chapter 8 of Gerd’s best-selling book Technology vs Humanity (Now available in 11 languages!) This week Peter and Gerd covered the topic of Proaction vs. Precaution. Precaution means looking proactively at what might happen—the possible consequences and unintended outcomes—before we proceed with a course of scientific exploration or technological development. On the other hand, too much proactivity will free some powerful and likely uncontrollable forces that we should keep locked up for the time being. Imagine the consequences of being too proactive with AI, geo-engineering, or human genome editing. Or entering an arms race with AI-controlled weapons that can kill without human supervision… If you enjoy Gerd's videos and talks, please also consider his new book “Technology vs Humanity” www.techvshuman.com Most of Gerd Leonhard's previous books, presentations and slideshows are available via www.gerdcloud.com
David Van der Auwera, founder of Grow Force, Joins the show to discuss the 5 steps of building Growth teams in your business. Those 5 steps are: Value proposition, Marketing setup, Sales Team, Process and finally Technology. Aligning all of these will create a true sales machine. I still love the idea David mentions of creating a sales and technology blueprint so you can focus your sales on customer interaction and not on internal processes.
In this podcast, Gerd and Petervan are talking through Chapter 5 of Gerd Leonhard's book Technology vs Humanity, entitled " the Internet of Inhuman things?". This week Gerd and Peter covered topics like responsible ecosystems and supply chains, and planning for externalities and unintended consequences. They also discussed what kind of governance will be needed to actually implement ethical principles: this will most probably require a public not-for-profit organization with a co-operative structure. As soon as any object becomes connective and cognitive, it becomes smart. This type of smartness needs to be governed and regulated as it operates at the level of a new meta-intelligence. If you enjoy Gerd's videos and talks, please also consider his new book “Technology vs Humanity” www.techvshuman.com Most of Gerd Leonhard's previous books, presentations and slideshows are available via www.gerdcloud.com
This is #1 of a new podcast featuring every chapter in Gerd Leonhard's book Technology vs Humanity. In this podcast Gerd and his colleague Petervan are talking through Chapter 1. Gerd indicates that we are halfway through the century’s second decade and at a critical pivot point in technology evolution, a hinge moment when change will not only become combinatory and exponential but inevitable and irreversible. Gerd argues that now is our last chance to question the nature of these coming challenges, from artificial intelligence to human genome editing, and striking a balance will be the key. If you enjoy Gerd's videos and talks, please also consider his new book “Technology vs Humanity” www.techvshuman.com Most of Gerd Leonhard's previous books, presentations and slideshows are available via www.gerdcloud.com
In this podcast, Gerd and Petervan are talking through Chapter 4 of Gerd Leonhard's book Technology vs Humanity, entitled “Automating Society”. This chapter includes questions such as, ‘what is the future of work?’ and ‘what should be automated?’ – or, more accurately, ‘what should NOT be automated?’ They also take a deep dive into the 5A’s: Automation, Assentation, Abdication, Aggravation, and Abomination. If you enjoy Gerd's videos and talks, please also consider his new book “Technology vs Humanity” www.techvshuman.com Most of Gerd Leonhard's previous books, presentations and slideshows are available via www.gerdcloud.com
In this podcast, Gerd and Petervan are talking through Chapter Gerd's book Technology vs Humanity, chapter 3, entitled "The Megashifts”. The Megashifts include digitisation, automation, datafication, virtualisation, robotisation, and others (for a total of 10), and understanding them is the ticket to future success. This includes questions such as “What are Key Human Indicators?” and “What is real and what is not?” The bottom line: as we head into exponential change, we must also collaborate to address ethics, culture, and values. Otherwise, it is certain that technology will gradually then suddenly become the purpose of our lives, rather than the tool to discover the purpose. If you enjoy Gerd's videos and talks, please also consider his new book “Technology vs Humanity” www.techvshuman.com Most of Gerd Leonhard's previous books, presentations and slideshows are available via www.gerdcloud.com
Here is a new podcast with Gerd's content curator Peter Vander Auwera interviewing Gerd on the key themes set forth his book Technology vs Humanity, chapter 2, entitled ‘Tech vs Us’. What makes us human? What is the difference between human intelligence and machine intelligence? Why should we talk about protecting what makes us human? What are #androrithms? “Whatever is very simple for humans is very hard for machines, and vice-versa” (riffing off Minsky, Moravec etc). Welke wijn is overheerlijk én betaalbaar?
