You can also watch it on my YouTube channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYyTIky2MLc or the whole thing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3dRQ7QZ_wc In this special livestream event, I outlined my arguments that while IA (Intelligent Assistance) and some forms of narrow AI may well be quite beneficial to humanity, the idea of building AGIs i.e. 'generally intelligent digital entities' (as set forth by Sam Altman / #openai and others) represents an existential risk that imho should not be undertaken or self-governed by private enterprises, multinational corporations or venture-capital funded startups. So: IA /AI yes *but with clear rules, standards, and guardrails. AGI: NO, unless we're all on the same page. l explain why I believe we need an AGI-Non-Proliferation-Agreement, what the difference between IA/AI and AGI or ASI (superintelligence) is, why it matters and how we could go about it.

We must use AI as a powerful tool but not let it become a purpose on its own. AI should be used to help us to bring about what Gerd calls #thegoodfuture, not to replace humans, or to whittle away what makes us human, or to enable a synthetic, machine-led society. LuN explains why we should welcome smart machines but not seek to build generally intelligent artificial entities (AGIs) – because with digital intelligences, it's competence that matters, not consciousness (quoting Professor Stuart Russell). For the Summer of 2023, a dozen futurists talk about what life will be like for humans in 30 to 50 years. Each guest is asked to paint a picture of the changes that we will experience between now and 2053 or 2073. Then they are asked what mistakes we are making today that the people of 2073 will look back at in disbelief. The goal of these episodes is to spark the imagination of listeners about the future we have the ability to create. In this episode, Gerd Leonhard paints a picture life in 2053 with a focus on how humans have the power to create lives enhanced by food, water, and energy abundance. He calls this “The Good Future.” He reminds us that the future is not about what is possible…it is about what we want. Among the topics Gerd discusses are uploading our brains to the internet, quantum computing, nuclear fusion, climate change and the technologies that will be created to manage it, and how movements will drive politicians to make the changes necessary to enable this good future to happen. Gerd finishes the interview with a discussion about what humans are doing today, including our use of fossil fuels, the way work is currently structured, and the importance of nation states, that the people of 2073 will look back at in disbelief. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Gerd is one of the world's leading futurists and the author of Technology vs Humanity: The Coming Clash Between Man and Machine. With the motto “People, Planet, Purpose, and Prosperity,” Gerd is an outspoken critic of unregulated exponential technologies. He uses his influence and platform to help people “imagine and create a better tomorrow” and was named one of Wired UK's 100 Most Influential Europeans in 2015.

Advancements in technology to date and the pace of change in the future is far beyond the evolutionary speed of human development. We are building smart cities, smart homes, smart offices but now we, the people, need to be smarter in using technology. How tech is built and how we use it as humans has never been more important. In this episode of The Next Five, we look at the relationship between technology and us, how our automated future and the interactions we have with tools, including AI, will shape humanity. Steve Wood, SVP of Product and Platform at Slack, joins us to show how we can empower people with tech. Nathalie Nahai, international speaker and best-selling author, discusses the need to foster better human connections and relationships with others during this fast paced technological future. Gerd Leonhard, futurist, humanist and CEO of the Futures Agency, extols the virtues of machines that remain competent and don't become conscious. Why is it accurate to say “the future is now?" How did the Good Future Project come about? What is it? What are some of the mindsets or impediments that prevent good insight into the future? What can be done to reduce or mitigate the fear mindset? What are the links between your first profession, music, and your current calling as a futurist? What's the role of futurism in thinking about global trade, globalization, and the green revolution? For large multinational companies, how should the C-suite be planning for the future we're going to experience?   About Gerd Leonhard  Gerd Leonhard is a globally recognized and top-rated futurist, humanist, author, film producer, and TV host. At a time when many people find it depressingly easy to see how "bad futures" could arise, what is a credible narrative of a "good future"? That question is of central concern to our guest in this episode, Gerd Leonhard.Gerd is one of the most successful futurists on the international speaker circuit. He estimates that he has spoken to a combined audience of 2.5 million people in more than 50 countries. He left his home country of Germany in 1982 to go to the USA to study music. European Futurist Gerd Leonhard often compares the current times to the turbulent years between 1968 and 1973, when the world last underwent a series of seismic shifts in the way things were done. During this period, not only was there a sense of instability, but also one of liberation, and ultimately, progress. It was a time when 'everything changed'. Gerd proposes that we are entering a similar era, today. American Futurist Peter Leyden similarly sees the coming decade as marking a rare juncture in history, bringing an unusual number of fundamental system changes that will require a series of paradigm shifts in how the world will now work. He sees these system changes as largely positive and adding up to what he calls The Great Progression that will play out over the next 25 years. For this special event, Gerd and Peter are teaming up to look closer at a dozen of the most important paradigm shifts of the 2020s that everyone should better understand. What are your opinions on the connection between Technology and Humanity, i.e. digital ethics, technology regulation, the future of AI/AGI, human genome editing, longevity, transhumanism, the future of work and jobs, etc8. We all know that with the development of technology, especially AI (like the invention of Sophia the Robot), many people think that this is a threat to humanity in some ways, but everything has its pros and cons. Could you share with us your thoughts on this?9. The invention of robots and intelligent softwares somehow seem to be a threat for the future of work, I mean it can take the jobs of many people and even with higher efficiency. What is your advice for the next generations to develop themselves and adapt with the future of technology in a balanced way?  10. How much control should humans have over digital society? Do you think that we will be way too much into the online world that we may forget about the reality sometimes?11. How do you see the future of technology, especially web3 and virtual reality in the next 5-10 years?About Dinis Guarda profile and Channelshttps://www.openbusinesscouncil.orghttps://www.intelligenthq.comhttps://www.hedgethink.com/https://www.citiesabc.com/More interviews and research videos on Dinis Guarda YouTube

This is a short excerpt from my recent keynote at AXPO Talent day Sept 6 2022 in Baden, Switzerland. We are in the midst of 3 revolutions, all happening at the same time: digital (everything connected and smart), #sustainable (everything green, circular - the end of the fossil fuel economy), and human (the potential of changing who (what) we are. Genetics, longevity etc -- a very big topic but a bit less front-of-mind than the other 2, at this point) - and of course what I call the human renaissance, see https://youtu.be/Qy3PfHBZuxk The END OF ROUTINE is near... yet: anything that cannot be digitized or automated will become much more valuable. We should be optimistic not because our problems are smaller than we thought, but because our capacity to solve them is larger than we thought” OVER THE LONG TERM, THE FUTURE IS DECIDED BY OPTIMISTS (Kevin Kelly) Watch is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB-ZNfCp8uA&t=8s We live in a Perma-Change World, and lately an increasingly pessimistic view of the future as well as strange new hopelessness seems to prevail - especially among the Gen Z & Y generations. There are many reasons for this - beyond covid19 or the Russia/Ukraine war - but one reason may also be that the narrative about the future is dominated either by Big Tech (Meta, Google, IBM, Amazon, Baidu etc) or by Hollywood (or rather "StreamyWood" i.e. Netflix et al). It seems to either involve technology saving us (while we, the non-exponential, lame humans, must then merge with it), or technology enslaving us (as in the various black-mirror type dystopias). I think this is a lousy way to look at the future, and that a more 'protopian' approach see #kevinkelly is much better suited for society, and for shaping our future. We also believe that how we look at the future is existential - as futurist Barbara Hubbard liked to say: 'As we see the future so we act; as we act so we become'.

In this fast-moving keynote at Estoril Conferences see I speak about why I believe that - despite the current woes of global warming, wars and inflation - the future is better than we think. As Kevin Kelly says 'we should be optimistic not because we have less challenges but because we have a lot more capacity to deal with them". Yet technology alone will not save us - we will need purpose and telos (wisdom). Algorithms know the logic of everything but the feeling of nothing. Too much of a good thing (technology) can be a very bad thing (#facebook aka Meta really makes the best example). In this talk, I also present my 3 tickets to the future: #digitization #decarbonization and reformation #theddr *more at https://www.theddr.world/ The Good Future is entirely feasible - we just have to make the right decisions, today. And what I call People Planet Purpose and Prosperity is where it all starts. Business as usual is dead or dying, and capitalism as we know it is unfit for the future. Gradualmente, o Streaming substitui a Televisão Linear, o Podcast Online a Rádio Tradicional, e as Plataformas Online e Redes sociais o Jornal de papel.

The video is at https://youtu.be/ma5UFEham_Q. Another version featuring my usual 'keynote television' style of immersive backgrounds and animations is available on Youtube: https://youtu.be/jn-f6VEbVrg WHY AND HOW THE FUTURE IS BETTER THAN WE THINK. When we watch the news, if we tune into Netflix, Hulu or Amazon or AppleTV, or scroll through social media, it is easy to get the impression that there is nothing but bad things coming toward us. Autocratic maniacs, severe climate change disasters, geopolitical power-plays, more pandemics... and of course the robots will take our jobs, and eventually they will harvest our bodies for energy. Research shows that almost 75% of GenY/Z expect the future to be worse than the present! I believe it is imperative that we change this narrative, because 'as we see the future, so we act; as we act so we become' (Barbara Hubbard) And the fact is that there are myriads of reasons why we can be excited about the future, such as exponential scientific and technological progress that will allow us to solve our biggest practical problems such as water, food, energy and diseases within the next 2-3 decades. We must start believing in what I call 'The Good Future' so that we can make the right decisions, today, and we must continue on our path towards global collaboration and global consciousness. In this talk I outline why and how this can be achieved, and why we have every reason to be excited about the future that we create, together. The future is not something that just happens to us, the future is something that we MAKE! We will have all the tools (science / technology) - but will we have the TELOS (the will)? Science fiction is increasingly becoming science fact. The future is already here! Covid19 was (is) a test run for climate change. Too much of a good thing can be a very bad thing (exponential technology). Technology will not solve social, human or political problems - that's a HUMAN job. Business as usual is dead or dying. We are NOT going back to 'Normal'. Green is the new digital. And soon, sustainable will be the new profitable. We are going from sick-care to HEALTH-CARE; technology and biology are converging. Education needs to switch from just-in-case to just-in-time. The buzz: “Impossible is not a fact. It is an opinion” (Muhammad Ali).A unique clustering of inventions in the century after the U.S. Civil War improved the American and European standard of living – human well-being – more than any period before or after, with advances in everything from food and energy to health and work. Can our current innovation explosion have a similar impact despite unintended consequences? Three futurists speak. Frank Diana, TCS: “I cannot discover that anyone knows enough about anything on this earth definitely to say what is and what is not possible” (Henry Ford). Gerd Leonhard, Futurist: “In dealing with the future, it is far more important to be imaginative than to be right” (Alvin Toffler, Future Shock). Timo Elliott, SAP: “The real problem of humanity is that we have paleolithic emotions; medieval institutions; and god-like technology. And it is terrifically dangerous” (E. O. Wilson). Welcome to episode #455 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Mirum Podcast. I have always been skeptical of individuals who proclaim themselves to be futurists. I often joke that I am a presentist. How far into the future can these people see? How far do they really look? Are they ever right? Recently, I was presenting at a private corporate event outside of San Diego, and Gerd Leonhard (the well-known futurist), was speaking after me. With a pending flight home, I could do little more than small talk with Gerd, but agreed to have a discussion about how he helps companies prepare for the inevitable. He is the co-author of The Future of Music, and the author of The End of Control, Music 2.0, Friction is Fiction, and The Future of Content. Gerd if the CEO of The Futures Agency. Enjoy the conversation... Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation - The Mirum Podcast - Episode #455 - Host: Mitch Joel. Running time: 46:31.
