We are officially in the middle of January, and by now we have some teams that are really hitting their stride, while other programs are struggling. There are a variety of reasons why teams may be struggling, but the question we ask ourselves when we are in that situation is "How do we get ourselves out of this?" This week, Tony and I go through numerous scenarios and give out our advice to help coaches and programs who may be at a place that they didn't anticipate being at right now. Along with that, we have our trivia, our TWIB segment and our "Up and. Down" segment; hope everyone enjoys our newest installment of "The Coaching Staff"!
Hey, just joking on that earlier post this morning! You got a preview of this week's interview podcast, but here's Tony and I from last night discussing thoughts and strategies on how to kickstart your team in January!
In this episode, spiritual director John Bruna offers commentary on invigorating a dry dharma practice by maintaining a balance of being responsible for our practice but not pushing too hard. He offers a way forward through integrating our dharma practice into our daily activities and engaging in accurate evaluation by observing changes in our experiences and behaviors over time. This episode was recorded on September 25th, 2024. Welcome to the Way of Compassion Dharma Center Podcast. Located in Carbondale, Colorado, the Way of Compassion Dharma center's primary objective is to provide programs of Buddhist studies and practices that are practical, accessible, and meet the needs of the communities we serve. As a traditional Buddhist center, all of our teachings are offered freely. If you would like to make a donation to support the center, please visit www.wocdc.org. May you flourish in your practice and may all beings swiftly be free of suffering.
To call Parish Malfitano's sophomore feature, Salt Along the Tongue, a straight up horror film feels like a disservice to the experience of watching this magnificent melodrama-adjacent film. Yes, there are most certainly horrific elements - blood features heavily throughout the film, upsetting tales about the symbiotic relationship between wasps and figs are told, bodies float in the air in unsettling ways, boils and scars emerge in haunting ways on the legs of characters, and of course, the thematic backbone of Italian witches that feature within the film - but Salt Along the Tongue instead feels more like a familial, motherly drama in the vein of Pedro Almodovar's work.Yet, even calling Salt Along the Tongue an homage to Alomdovar feels like it's doing a disservice to Parish's work here. This is, much like his first film, a distinct work syphoned from the mind of Parish Malfitano, and in the realm of Australian cinema, that is a blessing.Salt Along the Tongue follows Laneikka Denne's Mattia, a teen girl who struggles to find her place in the world being bullied at school and simply unable to be herself. It's a reality that's thrown into further turmoil when her mother unexpectedly dies, with Mattia having to move to live with her aunt, Carol (Dina Panozzo), who also happens to be her mothers identical twin. Yet, Carol is distinctly different than Matthia's mother, with her aunt having an exuberant personality that, when married with her complicated relationship with alcohol and the cooking show she records with her coven of friends, causes Matthia's life to shift in ways she doesn't know how to fully navigate. This is just the surface of what Parish is working with in Salt Along the Tongue, a film that features an almost completely women led cast, and acts as an ode to mothers and the hardships that men have put upon them in the world. Shot with a stunning colour palette that plays out at times like an aurora gracing through the sky, and at others like a freshly slaughtered chicken, blood dripping everywhere, Salt Along the Tongue is a film full of supreme confidence, driven by a vision to explore Parish's Italian heritage in an Australian setting. The co-lead of the film, Laneikka Denne, wisely said on Letterboxd that this does not feel like it was made in Australia in all the right ways, and they are completely right. There's a brilliance at work here that feels diametrically opposed to the projects that funding bodies in Australia are supporting. Parish is not working alone in this capacity, with filmmakers like Alice Maio Mackay and Alina Lodkina each exploring personal narratives within Australian cinema, and in doing so, these filmmakers are shifting what Australian cinema is.That notion of Australian cinema, as always, is embedded in my conversations with filmmakers, and the following discussion with Parish, recorded ahead of the films launch at SXSW Sydney on 18 & 19 October, explores his relationship with Australian cinema, his drive to tell stories that he wants to see on screen, and his journey through the creative process of making Salt Along the Tongue. While this conversation goes for fifty minutes, I feel like we barely scratched the surface of what's at play within this vividly realised and sensorially invigorating film. So, with that said, if you're in Sydney, head along and see the film on 18 or 19 October. It looks like the 18th is sold out, so jump on board for the 19th if you can. Make sure to seek out Parish's previous film, Bloodshot Heart, which is available on demand. And if you want to find out more about Parish's work head over to ParishMalfitano.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Florida took care of business with a decisive showing at Mississippi State. The two-quarterback system ignited a big day on offense, but continued defensive issues kept things interesting against the SEC bottom-feeding Bulldogs. While the performance won't save Billy Napier, it allowed the Gators embattled coach to fight another day. During the latest Swamp Things, Mark and Edgar break down a much-needed win as Napier pushes to build some momentum. In another sermon from Psalm 119, Spurgeon focuses on spiritual quickening—the enlivening and invigorating of his title—by means of the Word of God brought to bear upon our hearts. It is simple and straightforward in its arrangement, as so often with Spurgeon. He first gives us various reasons why we need such quickening. Next, he points out some motives to seek this enlivening and invigorating of the soul. Thirdly, he mentions some ways in which it is worked in our hearts. Finally, he suggests certain pleas for obtaining this blessing, drawn from the psalm itself. It is, of course, a sermon soaked in grace, for Spurgeon is properly persuaded that there is no spiritual life outside of and apart from Jesus Christ himself. It is also a very realistic sermon, for it takes full account of our need of life at every stage of Christian experience. Indeed, the preacher would have us grasp the three needful blessings in three important phases of the reality of spiritual life. First, that sinners might ask the Lord for life (which would itself indicate that life was coming). Second, that, every Christian would be always praying for invigorating grace, stirring the soul. Third, that every child of God would be marked by a lively appetite for ever-increasing measures of his favour, lifting us ever closer to Christ and into nearer fellowship with the triune God. Sunday Morning Live 24 June 2024Fingers crossed I'll be able to join my philosophy family today....quick question for ya Stefan.....Do selfish people even realize when they are being selfish? Do they see the plain truth when it's pointed out to them? why are people so clueless to their selfish acts and how it causes a cascade of events that otherwise could have been avoided....example maybe volunteering their time to help elderly parents out when they are doing nothing..but others have to step in bc they won't volunteer

You can use this meditation to start your day, or as many times as you need throughout the day to center yourself. So close your eyes and let's begin, Settling your body into a position that's comfortable for you. And when you can't expand anymore, Breathe out, contracting your belly until the very last drop of air is released. Anybody who's stepped foot on a treadmill, power-walked their way around the neighborhood or even a HIIT class - knows that cardio — is many things. Sweaty. Challenging. Invigorating. Intense. But cozy? And yet a type of exercise dubbed “cozy cardio” invented by a Texas based social media influencer Hope Zuckerbrow who felt that Instead of exercise that feels punishing, cozy cardio is a kinder, gentler means to the end, putting as much emphasis on self-care and enjoyment as on getting your heart rate up.She was inn search of a form of exercise that isn't just about losing weight but a type that could actually “spark joy when it came to movement.”Her favorite way to do that? Stroll on her at-home walking pad while watching television and sipping iced coffee, sometimes still in her bathrobe and fuzzy socks. We'll discuss the importance of pushing our physical limits, the role of intensity in cardiovascular exercise, and how cozy cardio may not deliver the results many fitness enthusiasts are seeking. Firstly, cozy cardio often involves low-intensity activities in a comfortable setting, promoting a relaxed approach to exercise. While comfort is essential for some, it may lead to complacency and reduced effort during workouts. .Lets start with the definition of cardiovascular exercise - Cardiovascular training, refers to exercises that specifically target the cardiovascular system, which includes the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. The primary goal of cardiovascular training is to improve the efficiency and endurance of this system. These exercises typically involve continuous, rhythmic activities that elevate the heart rate and increase breathing.Examples of cardiovascular exercises include running, cycling, swimming, brisk walking, and aerobics. The intensity of cardio workouts can vary, ranging from low to high impact, depending on factors like speed, duration, and resistance.Engaging in regular cardiovascular training offers various health benefits, such as improved heart health, increased lung capacity, better circulation, and enhanced overall fitness. It is a key component of a well-rounded exercise routine aimed at maintaining cardiovascular health and supporting overall well-being.Cozy cardio tends to prioritize comfort over the mental challenge that comes with pushing one's limits. Cardio training strengthens your mental resilience developed through more demanding workouts that contributes to a healthier mindset and a greater sense of accomplishmentWe'll explore how the mental resilience developed through more demanding workouts contributes to a healthier mindset and a greater sense of accomplishment.Additionally, cozy cardio might not provide a well-rounded fitness experience. We all know the importance of incorporating strength training and flexibility exercises with cardio training for overall health. There is the misconception that fitness should always feel easy and comfortable. It is important to know that there will be a certain level of discomfort during exercise is often necessary for growth, both physically and mentally. It's always a good idea for individuals looking to strike a balance between comfort and effectiveness in their fitness routines to understand WHY it is essential to their health and wellness. Focusing on a personalized approach to fitness that challenges both the body and mind for optimal health and fitness outcomes will always be your best bet on your fitness journeySupport the show

Healing. Invigorating, Calming. We can use it as a tool to gain clarity, calm anxiety and connect to the wisdom inside of us. This morning's meditation will help you breathe easily, so you can unlock the magic within. So close your eyes and let's begin, Settling your body into a position that's comfortable for you. And go ahead and take your first deep breath in, Feeling the air flowing in through your nose, your chest and your belly. And when you can't expand anymore, Breathe out, contracting your belly until the very last drop of air is released. One more deep breath in, Imagining the air filling up your entire body with refreshing oxygen, And then releasing all the air out. Bring your breathing to a comfortable, slow rhythm, And be here. Sitting with your breath. PAUSE… Now stay here for a bit. Just you and your breath, Breathing easily, Naturally, Rhythmically. PAUSE… With no agenda. No need to figure anything out. Just you and your breath. Easily here in this moment. Letting go of any thoughts or emotions that pop up, And then coming back to your breath. Breathe… LONG PAUSE (3 MINS)… Now come back to my voice, Back to the rhythm of your breathing. Bring your hands together in front of your heart, Silently thanking your breath for the life it gives you. Namaste, Beautiful.

Egg quality is a major buzz in this landscape. Besides age, it's not quite clear why egg quality issues are so rampant. Some women's ovaries are behaving as if they are already aged out. Much of the time this just isn't so. There is often an angle not yet explored. As always, I make it my mission to deliver you the goods on how to improve your chances of conception whether trying naturally or via IVF. Today's session sheds light on a lesser-known fertility hack, light therapy. Recent advances in fertility care include low-level laser light therapy (LLLT), otherwise known as photobiomodulation. This non-invasive treatment is a rather inexpensive assisted reproductive technology that can be used alongside other methods, such as acupuncture, to increase your chances of conceiving a healthy pregnancy. The best part? You can use it at home! The benefits of red light therapy occur on a cellular level as it supports the powerful functioning of the mitochondria. When this type of therapy is administered, there is an increased production of nitric oxide which improves coronary blood flow, directly benefiting the testes and ovaries. Application to the neck can also result in a systemic release of beneficial hormones. A research study from Denmark explored the administration of LLLT therapy to the lower abdomen in women for a duration of 23 minutes 1-2 centimeters above the skin. After two weeks and six treatments, researchers found there was a 65% success rate in those who participated after years of unexplained infertility. Failed implantation an issue? LLLT has been shown to help in this area too. Invigorating the mitochondria of the cells boosts any tissue needed for reproduction. And the research supports it too. However, these treatments are not exclusive to the ladies! This therapy also does wonders for sperm quality, so the men can participate as well. Treatment sessions where the light is placed 1-2 centimeters from the testes for a duration of 10 seconds showed that sperm concentrations increased from 2 million to 40 million in just a single session. Tune into today's session to see if LLLT therapy is something you'd consider adding to your fertility regime, you may be surprised by the results! You'll Learn: What LLLT therapy is How LLLT therapy is helpful for reproductive health The importance of the mitochondria as it pertains to fertility Thanks so much for listening to our podcast! How life-giving is the volunteer work that you do for your parish? Is it draining or invigorating? Hopefully, some of you responded, “Invigorating!” But if you find yourself drained by the work of being missional, you are not alone. So many of us say yes to the work because it is good, or necessary, or because “Father asked me to”. Rarely are we asked to first discern our charisms and then to volunteer in a mission field that matches our gifts. And so, I invited Mandy Busch and Amanda Pfeifer to talk about how they are helping parishioners find fulfillment in their mission. They focus first on helping parishioners to understand their God given gifts (charisms) and to notice where the Lord's gifts are bearing fruit. In their own words: “This is an essential item you need in your toolbox as an intentional disciple. Knowing what your charisms are and the ways in which the Lord moves in you to do his work, changes everything. Because when it's his work, it's not work.” In today's episode, you will hear how a parish can: * Lean into helping people discern their charisms * Equip parishioners for mission * Help disciples become a vessel of God's love by first discerning the Lord's call If you want to learn about your charisms or to help others do so, check out Siena.org (https://siena.org/). Today's guest is Zandra Moore. She is the Co-Founder and CEO of Panintelligence, an embedded analytics platform for SaaS vendors. Beyond the stellar work she does in tech, Zandra is a champion of inclusivity. In our interview with her and Andrew Davies recorded at SaaStock in 2022, Zandra discusses several topics that make you a better operator. Perhaps most importantly, she beats the drum on intentional inclusivity.High Level OverviewA look into taking a loss leading business component from one company and spinning it out into Panintelligence.Bringing people from outside the tech industry into tech.Utilize different training materials to let people consume an understanding of your product in a way that works for them.Thinking of your business as a data company, not just a software company.Nailing your go-to-market motion with a hyper focused Ideal Customer Profile.Zandra's Talent Pipeline BlueprintZandra provided valuable insight into what building out a roster of high caliber operators looks like. Here is a guide based on her advice.Focus on diversity from the top down: Zandra stresses the importance of having a board that is representative of the folks within your company. By having diversity at the top level, it fosters diversity naturally in all areas below.Recruit outside the tech sphere: Zandra elucidates that bringing people from outside the tech industry into tech can offer a valuable perspective to folks who are not., You can invest in retraining programs like Northcoders. This will help create a more diverse workforce and bring in new perspectives.Utilize different training materials: Zandra recommends providing different training materials to let people consume an understanding of your product in a way that works for them. This can help with onboarding and getting people into the funnel. Panintelligence has their own courses offered on their site.Be intentional about inclusivity: Zandra explains that her own mother provided an example by working in tech instead of telling Zandra to get into tech herself. By bringing her passion and energy for the industry into the home, Zandra's mother inspired Zandra to follow suit. She lists Ahead Partnership as a Leeds area organization that helps the private sector play a transformational role within their community.Following Zandra's advice, it is essential to focus on diversity from the very start when building a talent pipeline. This means recruiting from outside of the typical tech sphere, as well as utilizing different materials to effectively train people from diverse backgrounds. Taking the time to prioritize diversity and inclusivity can ensure that you can build a team that is well-versed, experienced, and capable of taking on any task.Further LearningsYou can learn more about Zandra Moore by following her on LinkedIn and Twitter.Additionally you can follow along with what Zandra is up to with LeanInLeeds and No Code Lab.
