Real Engineering is probably our favorite channel on YouTube. They unpack some of the world's most epic engineering challenges with clarity and depth. It was a pleasure to have the channel's creator Brian McManus and his colleague Graham Haerther on the podcast to chat about the art of science communication and the future of YouTube and digital media. And yes, there just might be a forthcoming Real Engineering video about hypersonic flight...

"Our team loves change. They see it as an opportunity to do better." A few years ago, Brian McManus was facing a dilemma: work wasn't fun anymore. He realized that he and his company Hoopaugh Grading Company needed to change, and that change needed to start with him taking a long look in the mirror. One of the first changes Brin made was to bring in an old friend Brandon Lindsey because even though Brandon didn't know dirt all that well, he knew people. And so from there, the process began of changing Hoopaugh for the better. It started with getting all of the leaders in the company on board, and then bringing in around 60 team members to answer the question, "what makes us who we are." Since those initial conversations a few years ago, Hoopaugh has built a robust training academy and facility to build up their team into better leaders and, in turn, better people. This week on Dirt Talk, host Aaron Witt sat down with Brian McManus and Brandon Lindsey of Hoopaugh Grading Company to discuss the bold changes they've made in their company over the last few years, why the cost of those changes was never worried about, and why their 10-year vision statement was simply, "be the best." You can learn more about Hoopaugh Grading at hoopaughgrading.com. Don't forget you can watch or listen to Dirt Talk on the BuildWitt app! You can learn more about it at buildwitt.com/buildwitt-app. To connect with other people who listen to this show, use and search for the hashtag #betterdirtworld and join in on the conversation. Before the first brick or timber can be set, before the first water or electrical line can be put in the ground, before anything can be built — the ground has to be prepared. Guests: AJ Griffin, Paycom’s director of government and community affairs Brian McManus, partner at Latham & Watkins LLP With major legislation already passed, organizations must act now to ensure continued operation and compliance. On March 27, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law. Among other provisions, employers may now elect to delay payment of their federal payroll taxes, and delay the deposit and payment of their Social Security taxes. Effective April 1, the FFCRA gives American businesses with fewer than 500 employees funds to provide COVID-19-impacted employees with paid leave, among other provisions. What can your organization do today to ensure compliance? In this episode of HR Break Room®, host Caleb Masters talks with AJ Griffin and Brian McManus to discuss: how the new legislation may impact your business which businesses are covered employers and which employees may qualify for additional paid sick leave qualifications pertaining to Social Security tax credits and deferrals how technology can help keep your organization compliant and give you the tools you need to successfully navigate these changes Learn more about how to navigate the changes presented by the FFCRA and CARES Act by visiting paycom.com/covid-19.

With video streaming services such as Netflix becoming more and more popular, associate professors of economics Brian McManus and Jon Williams are researching the economic implications of these services and the impacts of net neutrality laws on consumers’ wallets. The increase in Americans’ reliance on video streaming services has, according to McManus and Williams, also forced internet service providers to provide faster speeds, leaving cord-cutting consumers with internet and streaming services costs equaling their original cable bill. Despite the popularity of video streaming services in the United States, McManus and Williams explained that there is little research on the economic impact of this new trend. On this episode of Well Said, McManus and Williams describe their preliminary research and explain other interesting hypotheses they plan to investigate.

Talked with Stephanie Surrena, PB Specialist PBC Parks, Brian McManus, Lt. PBC Ocean Rescue and Kelly McConchie, PBC Ocean Lifeguard. There are lots of great things happening in the parks this summer. Both county water parks are open seven days a week now. The different nature centers have lots of programs for all ages (listeners can go to www.pbcparks.gov for more info) Brian and Kelly went over water safety tips for the beach. They have condition boards that let you know how the water is (green good, yellow - caution, etc, purple means jellyfish are present). They recommend you check in with the lifeguard on duty, make sure you and your kids know how to swim, use sunscreen with zinc, stay hydrated, bring snacks, swim near the lifeguard. watch your kids 100% of the time, watch the flags as conditions change throughout the day, Double Red means the beach is closed and you need to leave and find shelter (it'll stay closed at least 30 minutes once the double red flags go up) Of course keep the beach clean and if you have any questions go to www.pbcsplash.com
