You are here…at the start of a new year, and we have one last episode to round out 2021 where we return to a show that's been a favorite for us both. So whether you're at the Dover Fault or just somewhere in the middle of nowhere, go ahead and stop the world to listen to our discussion on Come From Away (and stay tuned til the end for an exciting giveaway!). -- Spice up your Instagram feed with Cindy's dog, Dr. Joey Puppington. This episode has been YEARS in the making. We are so so so excited to welcome Jeremy Jordan to the podcast. .And actually, we sort of tricked him into it. Jeremy initially agreed to sit down for an interview for the "Bonnie and Clyde" episode of our other podcast, Broadway Backstory. But we enjoyed each other so much that he agreed to stick around for what we like to call the "full Theater People." Jeremy made his Broadway debut in 2009 as an understudy in "Rock of Ages." He went on to play Tony twice a week in the Broadway revival of "West Side Story." He originated the role of Clyde Barrow in 2011's "Bonnie and Clyde" (which we are obsessed with) and earned a Tony nomination for originating the role of Jack Kelly in 2012's "Newsies." We love him. Enjoy!
Raise a glass, friends! Welcome to another Emergency Podcast System. This week, Mike (you know Mike) and our friend and history enthusiast Ted O'Gorman help me recap August 12th's #HamiltonHappyHour, which was Ted's introduction to Hamilton and the Hamilton community. In case you missed it, Patrick Hinds of the Theater People Podcast, Broadway Backstory, and True Crime Obsessed hopped behind the bar with me and we hosted the #HamFam and sang the entire Hamilton cast album in New York City, the greatest city in the world. We had the best time and raised a ton of money for charity. It was also a much needed night of love, support, and community after the country endured what Mike described as a "James Reynolds kinda week." After the Happy Hour, Ted went home and re-listened to the entire album so we also talk about his first impressions of Hamilton (spoiler: he loved it) and get super nerdy about history pop culture with things like 1776 and The West Wing. PS: #HamiltonHappyHour is now a thing and Patrick and I are going to do it again. Stay tuned for details! www.HamiltonHappyHour.com
Today's episode is in two parts, you guys! Up first is our dear friend Laura Osnes, making her FOURTH appearance on the podcast). Laura recently invited us to her perfectly appointed dressing room at the Jacobs Theater where she is starring as Julia Trojan in "Banstand." We talk about how it's been for her to see the show through from it's very first reading all the way to Broadway. In the Second half of the episode, we chat with "The Play That Goes Wrong's" Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer--co-writers and actors in the show. The pair share the show's Broadway Backstory and how it developed from a one-act being performed in a 60-seat theater above a put to the Olivier Award winning hit and Broadway favorite.
I am a huge fan of Patrick Hinds' work (check out his Theater People and Broadway Backstory podcasts stat!) and loved getting to hear his backstory about how he started the thing that has become his career. In this episode, we talk about starting before you're ready, how to build relationships with your heroes, and what happens when you dig in and just keep going. (Hint: great things, that's what!) If you're sitting on a creative endeavor and are waiting for the right time to start, this one's for you! Enjoy, enjoy!
