This is a free episode of our Patreon series: Superman in Order Podcast where we follow the appearances of Superman in chronological order. Finally, Superman acts like... well... Superman! Issue 5 of Action Comics features the fifth chronological appearance of Superman and, unlike the last few, Superman is in full costume and saving a town from a dam which is about to burst! A really fun issue of Action Comics!
Join When It Was Cool on this new series following the chronological history of Superman from his debut in 1938 through history. This is not a documentary series about the creators and artists (though they are mentioned) but instead is a study of the character of Superman himself and the changes he has gone through over the years. Episode one takes a look back to 1938 and the debut of Superman in the pages of Action Comics.
The 25th appearance of Batman took place in January 1941 in the pages of Detective Comics issue 47. As far as stories go, it is pretty tame, but the character of the Batman himself continues to evolve. In this issue, Bruce Wayne does his best Dick Tracy impersonation and Robin has a reduced role. Read the feature article - here. The Batman in Order series will now go on pause and in two weeks we will begin our look at the first 25 appearances of Superman as we start to build an entire "... In Order" section to the website!
Pod Crashing episode 355 with Anna Sigga Nicolazzi from the Law and Order podcast An investigative audio series that explores how murder is tried in America through examining the cases that set the precedent. For over three decades, the Law and Order franchise has provided a glimpse into the American legal system. Beyond the drama, the show has reflected the evolution of how cases are tried in our courts of law. In this series, we delve into some of the most influential real-life cases that shaped the current justice system through the lens of New York City. Host Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi leads a team of experts in dissecting what went wrong and right in NYC's landmark trials. From the first high-profile organized crime convictions to introducing DNA as evidence, we're digging into the cases that changed the rules. Each season of the series will cover one subsect of criminal law, tackling multiple cases throughout the city's history to understand how elements of the modern trial have come to be. From the battle to bring down the American Mafia to tactics including undercover operations, wiretaps, and plea bargains, listeners will understand all of the tools and strategies that prosecution and defense work with when lives hang in the balance.
The Lake: Season's Greetings DLC follows the holiday shenanigans of Thomas Weiss, and the other inhabitants of Providence Oaks, the setting of the base game story. Thomas is the father of Meredith Weiss, the protagonist of the original game, and in 1985 is the one and only mail carrier in town. This special holiday story gives players another cozy peek into life in this small town. We get a little more backstory for many iconic characters and get to know some new ones! Best of all, this slice of life narrative all takes place against the snow covered backdrop of this beautiful town. In Episode 37 of No Small Games, and our second ever holiday episode, Kate and Emily are joined by Jacob Price of The Pre-Order Bonus Podcast, one of our favorite gaming podcasts! The three discuss their favorite movies to watch around Christmastime, Jacob shines some light on the buzz around Hot Frosty (the newest holiday "instant classic" to hit the scene), and the group shares their gifting recommendations in our Holiday Game Gift Guide. Of course, they also discuss their experiences playing the Lake: Season's Greetings DLC. We hope you love this episode, and that you have a peaceful and happy holiday season! Spoiler Warning: listeners should note there are light spoilers for the games A Short Hike, Unpacking and Lake (the base game). Today at WhenItWasCool.com we take a look at the fourth appearance chronologically of the Batman character from the pages of Detective Comics issue 30 Detective Comics issue 30 cover dated August 1939. These Batman in Order reviews are less about the creators, behind the scenes, and the process of it all, and more about the story of The Batman, the character, and how he has changed and evolved and often represented or stood against common conventions of the time. The fourth Batman story is part two of a two-part series about an antagonist called Doctor Death. Batman not only kills somebody again in this issue (his third kill) he largely does so intentionally. You can't talk about Mid Lit without talking about Stephen King. "The Stand" is a King classic, but only a sadist would ask a guest to read that weighty tome. Instead, we asked Kevin Flynn from "Crime Writers On" and "These Are Their Stories: The Law & Order Podcast" to spend roughly 9 hours of his life watching the latest mini-series based on the book and then chat with us about his thoughts and feelings. Take a deep dive into the perplexing economy of New Vegas and ponder the mystery of the new ending and why King took this opportunity to double-down on the problematic Mother Abagail character. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/midlit/support
