One of our Deacons, Brother Rick, teaches the second lesson of our New Members / Get to know Legacy material. In this lesson we go over what it means to be a Reformed Baptist. How is that different from other kinds of Baptist, and while we are at it, what makes a Baptist. We tackle the issue by looking at some history, and what we call the 3 C's: Confessional, Covenantal, Calvinistic.

This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Brother Rick is conspicuously absent, so it's Ariel running the show alongside Ripley and David, who all know that to take a podcast vacation now would be to deprive listeners of the comfort of a discussion of their watch hobby straight to their ears. The guys get right to it with a look the new Venezianico Arsenale. Ariel proposes that when glasses take over smartwatches, the wrist will become available again for useless things like mechanical timekeeping. They veer off associatively into the rabbit hole of augmented reality. Getting back to basics, Ripley posits that when simplicity is done right, it can be more impressive than a busy dial because your attention is focused only on a few elements. Next up is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 226938 18k yellow-gold watch, which Ariel likes quite a lot, even though the dial has never sold him on "pretty." Ripley says he'd take it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak. David agrees that it's a powerful watch in its complications and execution, but it's not right for his wrist (too heavy). Then the team discusses David's most recent "Grinding Gears" article, in which he asks "How long should watch brands milk historic achievements?" Next up is a look at the new Bulova Lunar Pilot "Blood Moon" watch, which David thinks is too large even in its smallest form, but everyone loves the story of this watch. Listen in for more. Speaking of small, the Hamilton PSR74, a modern LED with a retro look. David isn't sure he would spend upwards of $800 on this watch, though he's happy it exists. Then, they discuss the watch that the Venezianico Arsenale wants to be: the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph in Milano Blue. They end with a look at a deep dive into Bulgari's new watch manufacture and the Hands-On: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono 'Cycling Edition' And The Role Of Watches In Professional Cycling | aBlogtoWatch Maybe when Rick gets back, he'll bring Hit, Miss, Maybe with him.

Rick C. is a fixture in the Philadelphia recovery community. He helps so many people which is why today's reflection is so perfect. Today is Rick's sober anniversary and I want to wish him congratulations. He's helped me immensely in my recovery. I should mention that Rick keeps it real and uses language that may not be appropriate for younger audiences... and I love him for that. SERVING MY BROTHERThe member talks to the newcomer not in a spirit of power but in a spirit of humility and weakness.ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS COMES OF AGE p. 279As the days pass in A.A., I ask God to guide my thoughts and the words that I speak. In this labor of continuous participation in the Fellowship, I have numerous opportunities to speak. So I frequently ask God to help me watch over my thoughts and my words, that they may be the true and proper reflections of our program; to focus my aspirations once again to seek His guidance; to help me be truly kind and loving, helpful and healing, yet always filled with humility, and free from any trace of arrogance. Today I may very well have to deal with disagreeable attitudes or utterances—the typical stock-in-trade attitude of the still-suffering alcoholic. If this should happen, I will take a moment to center myself in God, so that I will be able to respond from a perspective of composure, strength and sensibility.Support the showNeed the Daily Reflection Book? David Gornoski starts the episode with a reflection on the news of the Mayfair mall shooting in Wisconsin. "The problem with many today is that they see institutions or ideologies as more sacred than human life." David is joined by Rufus Rochell, a friend of the show, and the two break the story that Rufus' brother Richard Williams has received clemency from President Trump. Richard tells us about how he was indicted unjustly on drug conspiracy charges and how, after a long struggle, he was able to finally come home.
