We open this episode by talking about how seeing ourselves on camera during COVID changed the way many of us think about how we look. We discuss how lighting, color, and cohesion play a bigger role than we realize, and how that realization often becomes the entry point into color analysis. From there, we introduce House of Colour and Dee Pineaut, who joins us to explain what color analysis actually is and where it comes from.We walk through the history of color analysis, starting with early 20th-century art theory and the Bauhaus movement, and then moving into the film industry with the rise of Technicolor. Filmmakers learned that certain colors could make actors look healthier, younger, brighter, or more sinister, and those same principles apply to everyday people. We talk about how color can either harmonize with someone's natural undertones or fight against them, affecting how vibrant or washed out they appear. We then break down what a typical House of Colour appointment looks like. Natural daylight and an in-person experience are essential, and precision-dyed drapes are used to determine whether someone has warm or cool undertones. From there, we outline the four seasonal palettes—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—and what those seasons mean in practical terms. We discuss how finding the right colors simplifies getting dressed, helps wardrobes become more cohesive, and reduces decision fatigue in the morning. We move beyond color into style analysis, where we talk about body shape, clothing cuts, and personality. We emphasize that this process is not about changing someone's body, but about honoring it and choosing shapes, fabrics, and details that work best for each individual. We highlight how style evolves over a lifetime and how these tools help people adapt through career changes, retirement, weight changes, and life transitions. We also cover the additional services House of Colour offers, including cosmetics, wardrobe edits, personal shopping, and online shopping resources. Dee shares her own journey into this work, explaining how her personal transformation led her to open a House of Colour studio in Royal Oak. We close by talking about client success stories, community involvement through the Royal Oak Chamber, and how listeners can get started on their own color and style journey.More:Dee's House of Colour Website: https://www.houseofcolour.com/stylists/dee-pineau-royal-oak-michigan(00:00) – Intro(01:25) – What Color Analysis Is and Where It Comes From(02:48) – Film, Technicolor, and the Psychology of Color(03:32) – What House of Colour Does(04:51) – What a Color Analysis Appointment Looks Like(06:34) – Favorite Colors vs. Best Colors(08:06) – Why In-Person Analysis Matters(09:13) – Style Analysis and Body Shapes(11:06) – Additional Services: Makeup, Wardrobes, Shopping(13:10) – Dee's Personal Journey to House of Colour(14:27) – Client Transformations and Success Stories(15:22) – Royal Oak Chamber and Community Involvement(16:26) – How to Get Started with House of Colour Learn more about the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce: https://www.royaloakchamber.com/Connect with our hosts:Jon Gay from JAG in Detroit Podcasts - http://www.jagindetroit.com/Lisa Bibbee from Century 21 Northland - http://soldbylisab.com/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. This week on the HowToBBQRight Podcast, we're back from Nashville—and it was an absolute blast (00:27)! Malcom cooked at Heath's Smokehouse with Royal Oak and turned out some incredible food (04:21). Skirt steak might not be the fanciest cut of beef, but it makes unbelievable tacos (09:41). It's hard to beat a good old-fashioned dry rib, but Malcom took them to a whole new level (19:06). He also shares his favorite rib mop recipe and how to use it for maximum flavor (25:50). If you're planning to cook salmon, fire up your pellet grill and give this method a try (27:44). Everyone loves a great steak, but here's how to cook a pork chop that's even better than a steak (33:26). We tackle the age-old question: Are boneless wings really wings (39:35)? If you want to use chicken thighs instead of breasts for Dirty Bird chicken bites, here's exactly how to cook them (45:57). Shoutout to Tom from CastingAndCookingBBQ for the great idea of making sausage and pimento cheese sliders (47:05). We talked about Dill Devils last week, but Tony took them to a whole different level (50:41). And finally, should you cook chicken wings straight from the freezer to the pit (53:20)?

On this episode, we zoom out to the state of the watch business, using Watches of Switzerland as a real-time bellwether. We unpack strong holiday performance alongside shrinking margins, then dig into accelerating U.S. retail consolidation: why large groups are acquiring family-owned authorized dealers, how Rolex factors into approvals and allocations, and what this growing concentration could mean for collectors and regional markets. We then connect the dots on Swiss export data, tariffs, currency volatility, and rising material costs—and why pricing pressure in the U.S. isn't going away, it's just evolving. From pent-up demand following tariff relief to a weakening dollar versus the Swiss franc, we explore how macro forces are reshaping brand strategy and retail economics. We close by reacting to Audemars Piguet's newest release, the Neo Frame, and discuss what this jump-hour design signals about AP's creative direction and its efforts to expand beyond the core Royal Oak playbook. Hosted by Asher Rapkin and Gabe Reilly, co-founders of Collective Horology, Openwork goes inside the watch industry. You can find us online at collectivehorology.com. We sit down with Dr. Tasneem Karassi of Wellness Family Dentistry to talk about her journey into dentistry, her decision to open a startup practice in Royal Oak, and her passion for patient-centered, whole-body dental care. We start by getting to know Dr. Karassi beyond dentistry, including her long-time love of ceramics and how working with her hands outside the office helps her unwind and stay grounded. That creative background naturally connects to dentistry, a profession that blends precision, artistry, and problem-solving.We explore how and why she chose Royal Oak as both her home and the location for her practice. After working in several offices across the region, Dr. Karassi knew she wanted to build something from scratch that reflected her own vision. With encouragement from fellow local business owners and the right opportunity opening up, Wellness Family Dentistry was born. She shares how the energy, community, and vibrancy of Royal Oak made it the perfect place to plant roots and grow a practice.A major focus of our conversation is dental anxiety. We talk about why so many patients feel nervous at the dentist and how trust, communication, and time are the most important tools in overcoming that fear. Dr. Karassi explains how her office prioritizes education, visual tools, and a calm, spa-like environment to remove the mystery from dental care. From aroma therapy to noise-canceling headphones, everything is designed to make patients feel safe, heard, and unrushed. We also dive into dental insurance and affordability, including options for patients without insurance. Dr. Karassi outlines her one-time new patient special and the Wellness Family Plan, a membership model that focuses on preventive care and transparency rather than insurance limitations. One of the most impactful parts of the conversation centers on airway dentistry and sleep apnea. We discuss how sleep apnea is often underdiagnosed, how it affects the entire body, and how dentists can play a key role in identifying and treating it. Dr. Karassi explains mandibular advancement devices as a non-invasive alternative to CPAP machines and shares real-life examples of how proper diagnosis can dramatically improve patients' quality of life.We wrap up by talking about pediatric dental care, the importance of starting children early, and how lifelong habits are formed. Dr. Karassi shares how her curiosity and conversations during a two-year gap period ultimately led her into dentistry, a profession she now uses to combine health, wellness, aesthetics, and community impact.Wellness Family Dentistry Website– https://wellnessfamilydentistry.co(00:00) Intro(00:20) Welcome to the ROCC Pod(00:49) Ceramics, Creativity, and Dentistry(01:53) Starting a Dental Practice from Scratch(04:24) Understanding and Treating Dental Anxiety(08:46) Dental Insurance, Membership Plans, and Costs(10:30) Airway Dentistry and Sleep Apnea(15:57) Pediatric Dental Care and Starting Kids Early(18:24) Finding Passion in Dentistry(20:33) Joining the Royal Oak Chamber(21:14) Fishbowl Question & Fun Wrap-Up(22:41) How to Contact Wellness Family Dentistry Learn more about the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce: https://www.royaloakchamber.com/Connect with our hosts:Jon Gay from JAG in Detroit Podcasts - http://www.jagindetroit.com/Lisa Bibbee from Century 21 Northland - http://soldbylisab.com/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode of The ROCC Pod, we sit down with Taylor Simpson, co-owner of Michigan By The Bottle, to explore the evolution of a wine-centric community experience that brings together Michigan's top vineyards under one roof. Taylor shares how the concept began in 2012 as a blog run by two passionate wine lovers and grew into a network of tasting rooms across Southeast Michigan—including locations in Shelby Township, Royal Oak, and Auburn Hills—with a fourth coming soon to Lake Orion. We discuss what sets Michigan By The Bottle apart: a curated selection from 15 winery partners across the state, giving customers access to wines from every Michigan AVA (American Viticultural Area) without the long drive. Events are central to the experience, from wine and food pairings with winemakers to unexpected offerings like sourdough workshops and Galentine's gatherings with permanent jewelry. It's a place where community and curiosity intersect—where wine is the medium, but connection is the goal.Taylor also breaks down her role in the company. Alongside her brother, she acquired Michigan By The Bottle in partnership with Paul and Geoff Hamelin of Verterra Winery. They've modernized the business, revamped the wine club to be fully customizable, and launched member-exclusive perks—like curated trips to Leelanau Peninsula wineries. We get into Michigan's unique wine geography, diving into how the 45th parallel and Lake Michigan's climate make this state ideal for cool-climate varietals. Taylor explains how lake-effect snow insulates vines during harsh winters, helping Michigan produce high-quality grapes that rival well-known European regions. She even introduces us to less common varietals like Blaufränkisch and Grüner Veltliner, showcasing the diversity in Michigan's wine scene. The episode wraps on a lighter note with Taylor's ostrich-riding adventure in South Africa and a fun fishbowl question about naming her dream yacht—spoiler: it'd be something wine-related like Uncorked. We're proud to spotlight Taylor and Michigan By The Bottle as a vibrant example of entrepreneurial energy and regional pride, all while raising a glass to local flavor.Learn more at https://michiganbythebottle.com/Email: tasting@michiganbythebottle.com(00:00) - Meet Taylor Simpson(01:03) - Ostrich Riding in South Africa(02:18) - Origins of Michigan By The Bottle(03:56) - Locations & Events(05:30) - Wine Clubs & Member Trips(07:21) - Michigan Winery Selection Process(08:28) - Michigan's Wine Geography Explained(10:01) - Ice Wine and Upcoming Events(10:28) - Unique Wines to Try(12:30) - Royal Oak Chamber Experience(13:20) - Fishbowl Fun: Name Your Yacht(14:28) - How to Connect with Michigan By The Bottle Learn more about the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce: https://www.royaloakchamber.com/Connect with our hosts:Jon Gay from JAG in Detroit Podcasts - http://www.jagindetroit.com/Lisa Bibbee from Century 21 Northland - http://soldbylisab.com/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In the last episode of On Hand we theorized that ranch first collided with pizza in Michigan, and maybe even at a high school in Ann Arbor in 1992. Why not? Well one listener, Junebug Harris, says we got it all wrong. He and his wife, Rio, were both dipping pizza - and everything else - in ranch in their high school cafeterias (Northville and Royal Oak, respectively) in the 1980s. Here's further evidence that Michigan teenagers started the pizza/ranch trend - in the mid 1980s - probably because high school cafeteria food wasn't great, but the ranch was on point. Junebug and Rio are musicians with a rockabilly band in southeast Michigan. Check them out! In this episode of the LiberatED Podcast, Kerry McDonald talks with Bonnie Bradshaw, a longtime homeschool mom and the founder of Royal Oak Academy, a student-centered K-7 microschool in Suffolk, Virginia. Bonnie shares how her years of homeschooling shaped her educational philosophy and ultimately inspired her to create a learning environment that prioritizes curiosity, autonomy, and individual growth. She discusses the transition from educating her own children at home to launching a microschool that now serves a broader community of families seeking alternatives to conventional schooling. The conversation explores what it means to design education around students rather than systems, the practical realities of starting and sustaining a microschool, and why more parents and educators are choosing entrepreneurial paths to create meaningful, joyful learning spaces. This episode is a must-listen for homeschooling families, aspiring microschool founders, and anyone interested in the growing movement toward learner-centered education. *** Sign up for Kerry's free, weekly email newsletter on education trends at edentrepreneur.org. Most people think men's sexual orientation is pretty straightforward: if you’re gay, you only sleep with men, and if you’re straight, you only sleep with women. But things aren’t always that simple. In today's show, we're exploring a reality that doesn't fit the script—gay men who are out and confident in their identity, but who sometimes sleep with women. I am joined once again by Dr. Joe Kort, the clinical director and founder of The Center for Relationship and Sexual Health in Royal Oak, Michigan. He is a board-certified clinical sexologist and author of multiple books, including Cracking the Erotic Code: Helping Gay Men Understand Their Fantasies. Some of the specific topics we explore in this episode include: What are the main reasons why some gay men have sex with women? Why might a woman want to have sex with a gay man? Does your sexual behavior necessarily have to align with your sexual identity? Why do people sometimes engage in behaviors that don’t seem to match up with their sexual orientation? Although gay men are often seen as being pretty uninhibited when it comes to sex, their fantasy lives tell a more complex story. Like everyone else, many gay men experience shame, confusion, or conflict around their fantasies. In today's show, we're diving into common themes that show up in gay men's fantasies, the psychology behind them, and how to drop the shame. My guest is Dr. Joe Kort, the clinical director and founder of The Center for Relationship and Sexual Health in Royal Oak, Michigan. He is a board-certified clinical sexologist and author of multiple books, including Cracking the Erotic Code: Helping Gay Men Understand Their Fantasies. Some of the specific topics we explore in this episode include: What do sexual fantasies actually mean or represent? What kinds of things are gay men likely to fantasies about? Why are taboo themes so prevalent in gay men’s fantasies? How does porn shape gay men’s fantasies? What do gay men who feel ashamed or confused about their fantasies need to know? Brad Ellison went from selling insurance to building Michigan's highest-rated painting company in just a few years, and he's got some seriously practical wisdom about profit, personality, and perfectionism. In this conversation, we dig into why finishing jobs to 75% can actually be the smartest move for your business, how your core values should drive everything from your marketing to your hiring, and why contractors are the perfect clients for video producers right now. About Brad Ellison Brad grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Oakland University. During school, his goal was always to run his own small business and he got his start at age 19 when he started a local window washing company to pay for tuition. Brad and Rachel operate Ellison Painting together and now live in Oakland Twp with their 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. They enjoy exercising, time outdoors, and being involved in the local community and church. Key Takeaways Stop over-delivering: That last 25% of polish you're adding? Your clients often can't even tell the difference, but it's costing you real profit. Focus on meeting expectations, not exceeding them to the point of vanity. Your core values aren't just wall art: Brad's company lists "levity" as a core value, which is why their funny ads work. Every piece of marketing you create should reflect at least one of your actual values. There's a huge opportunity with contractors: Painting, roofing, and other trade companies desperately need help with video content but don't know where to start. If you can crack this market, there's serious money to be made. Build around what you actually care about: Brad's business exists to support his faith, family, fitness, and friendships—not the other way around. Define what matters to you first, then build your business to serve those priorities. In This Episode [00:00] Welcome to the show! [06:02] Meet Brad Ellison [11:17] Success In Business [21:54] Having Enough Leads [22:50] Having Multiple Marketing Methods [27:25] Word of Mouth Marketing [33:10] Passion Work and Business Growth [46:09] Connect with Brad [47:53] Outro Quotes "We have more five star reviews than any other painting company in Michigan and just like my jumper—it's not even close." - Brad Ellison "For me, my passion lies with my faith, my family, my fitness and my friends. And I have a painting business to feed those four." - Brad Ellison "You want to do a great job for your customers, but you also need to understand what their expectations are... that last 25% is purely for vanity and at the cost of his profit." - Brad Ellison "Identify your core values and any ad that you put out should highlight at least one. Ideally two or more of those core values." - Brad Ellison Guest Links Ellison Painting Website Follow Brad Ellison on Facebook | Instagram Links Find out more about the Studio Sherpas Mastermind Join the Grow Your Video Business Facebook Group Follow Ryan Koral on Instagram Follow Grow Your Video Business on Instagram Join the Studio Sherpas newsletter Check out the full show notes

Jared is coming to you from Durham, NC for another gloriously petty Ticked Off Tuesday, and he's got thoughts about “former bank” hotels, mysterious staff-only Wi-Fi, rogue outlets, and the front desk guy who hit him with the dreaded “you look familiar.” Between burps, coffees, and Bonvoy vs. Hilton debates, he breaks down life on the road and why all he wants is a cute, functional room where he doesn't have to move furniture just to charge his laptop. Then it's on to listener complaints: a cursed U-Haul mirror box order that vanishes into the ether, a nightmare flight seated next to the world's greasiest seatmate, and someone finally saying what we're all thinking about pumpkin spice lattes (liquid fall-flavored disappointment). Along the way, Jared dishes on his upcoming tour stops in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Royal Oak, Columbus, Orlando, San Diego for New Year's, and Philly, and why you need a night of laughs away from your family this holiday season.
