Where Structured Interdisciplinary Concepts Started Episode #284 with Dr. Jeff Brucia If you're frustrated with dentistry, you're not alone. Today, Kirk Behrendt brings in Dr. Jeff Brucia from F.A.C.E., an institution where the greatest minds in dentistry gathered with frustrations of their own to seek out the best solutions. The result was an interdisciplinary approach to learning, and F.A.C.E. could be exactly what you need! Don't spend two-thirds of your career doing things you're frustrated with or doing them the wrong way! For motivation on continuing to do the very best in your practice, listen to Episode 284 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Be motivated to think first and do second. Predictability at the highest level is important. And patients want predictability! F.A.C.E. is not for everybody. It is for the most committed learners. Many dentists spend most of their career doing things they're frustrated with. Continue to motivate yourself to do the very best. Quotes: “When I signed up for the [FACE occlusion program], I'd been out of school five years. And [Tom Basta] thought I was too young. In fact, he was not going to allow me to take the program five years out of school. And why? Why would you turn away a young dentist? And he said, ‘You haven't made enough mistakes. You haven't seen enough failures.” (13:26—13:48) “You've all experienced doing a single second molar crown, the same way you've done it 10 other times. And on the 11th time, everything goes wrong. Well, why is that? So, what F.A.C.E. tries to do is answer those questions and bring predictability to it.” (25:16—25:35) “How can I sit a patient down at every level-three program and prep from beginning to end diagnosis, treatment planning, full-mouth preps, impressions, mountings, case delivery? How can I do that time, after time, after time on a living, breathing, patient the most advanced dentistry in the world with 20 people in my space? Because it works.” (41:46—42:17) “Managing patients' expectations is all about understanding the predictability of what you do.” (53:09—53:16) “Successful dentistry builds practices more than anything else.” (53:55—54:01) “A successful practice is one where you keep all your patients.” (55:12—55:17) “Take a good look at your practice. What's working? What isn't? Where do you want to be in 5, 10, 15, 20 years? The majority of people that come through F.A.C.E. are in their last trimester of a dental practice. They have chosen to practice their last period of time doing the best dentistry in the world. And you know what they all say? ‘Why didn't I do this earlier?'” (56:22—56:50) Snippets: Dr. Brucia's background. (03:13—05:56) The origins of F.A.C.E. (06:59—11:09) “You haven't made enough mistakes.” (11:28—14:36) Think first, do second. (15:01—16:37) Dentistry's need for accurate instrumentation. (17:09—19:47) Dr. Peter K. Thomas. (20:25—21:54) Dr. Charlie Stewart. (22:03—22:49) The importance of predictability. (23:33—29:38) Dr. Peter Dawson's ice skating analogy. (29:55—34:29) Facebow versus earbow. (35:29—39:18) Dr. Brucia's frustrations in dentistry. (39:18—43:12) The importance of airway. (43:30—50:14) The future of dentistry. (50:40—59:02) How to get involved with F.A.C.E. It was first published in 1841. The author is unknown, but the loch is the largest loch in Scotland. I’ve heard a few different stories about the origins. Wikipedia lists the most-popular one being that is Jacobite song. It says there are references to it with the date 1746 attached. That was the year the Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebellion ended. They also have an additional verse that I’ve never seen used. O braw Charlie Stewart, dear true, true heart, Wha could refuse thee protection, Like the weeping birk on the wild hillside, How graceful he looked in dejection Nevertheless, the song is about a Scottish soldier far away in France who tells a friend to “take the high road” home. The “high road” is of course life, and a regular path to Scotland. The “low road” is about dying and having his spirit head home. We are all blessed with certain unique gifts or “super powers”. We all have the potential to use these gifts to do good in the world. Some of us have a small circle of influence, others have a huge one. Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen's three guests on this episode of Inner Space all have impressive talents and each is using his rather large sphere of influence to help those who are hurting. Dr. Barbara's first guest, John Osborne, is a compassionate and gifted teacher with the Art of Living Foundation who is using his gift to help many – including veterans struggling with the invisible injuries of war. Dr. Barbara's second guest, Bruce Cohen is an Academy Award winning Hollywood producer who chooses projects that entertain, inspire and challenge us, and like Bruce, her final guest is an accomplished award winning storyteller. Charlie Stewart uses the medium of the documentary film to engage and inform his audience. On this final episode of Dr. Barbara's first season of Inner Space, we'll discover how these very special men use their gifts and their platforms to bring hope and help to those in need.Host Dr Barbara Van DahlenExecutive Producer Adell ColemanProducer Jackie GarofanoAssociate Producer Brandon TagoeTechnical Producer Greg SchweizerTalent and Booking Team: A Lopez MediaDistributor: DCP Entertainment See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Welcome to Episode 18 of the Football United vs Soccer City podcast. It is always a pleasure to get the recording gear out and set up to conduct an interview. My learning curve is steep but I will keep trying to record our great history one person at a time although at times I am not the sharpest interviewer going around. This episode’s interviewee Warren Kerr was part of one of the best teams the Illawarra has ever seen, the Corrimal Rangers/Corrimal United teams of the mid 1950s. Now this comment is subjective and there has been many great teams in the Illawarra over 130 years (for example the South Coast United teams of the 1960s and the Wollongong Wolves of the late 1980s and late 1990s). But I believe the Corrimal Rangers/Corrimal United teams of the mid 1950s would be in the top 5 teams of all time, with ease.In a five year period this team, which contained the likes of Bignell, Young, Peters, Drain, Burns, Learmonth, Harrington, Callan, Wheatley, James, Brown, Pearce, Willoughby won the State Southern/Federation League 4 times, won 2 Sydney Cups, won 1 State Cup and won 2 State League Finals. Warren Kerr was part of these squads and started playing first grade football with these high quality players in State League when he was 15 the only other player at the time who played first grade state league earlier was the great Charlie Stewart (former Socceroo, State Representative and Woonona great) who did it at the age of 14. Regardless of Charlie’s record, Warren’s ascendancy to first grade State League shows the speed and skill Warren must have possessed. He played for Corrimal Rangers in the State League, Corrimal United in the Federation and then Corrimal Rangers in the local league before he retired and concentrated on his Family and work (note he did play a few games for Whyalla when he worked over there for a period of time). A very modest man, Warren after his playing days spent over a decade on the Corrimal Rangers Committee as President and additionally is a Life Member (and his wife Mary was part of the Committee and helps add a couple of comments during this interview, which was very helpful). I hope you enjoy this interview and the insights Warren gives 60 plus years after his playing career had finished.

This is the Two White Men podcast where Charlie Stewart and Sean Turner aim to tackle some of the issues our modern society faces, hopefully with some humour along the way. Common sense over sensationalism. *Image from waitbutwhy.com*
In the tenth episode of Freedom in a Cage, the boys talk Sir Douglas Nicholls Round before doing the first deep dive on the final game at Whitten Oval back in 1997. But first, Bob and Adi discuss the Don Pyke stare (00:56); Terry Wallace's bizarre, but funny, post-match spray (02:30); Ed Richards winning the NAB Rising Star award (07:23); the day a Mario Kart playing Bob left Hawthorn recruiters hanging (09:07); the significance of Sir Douglas Nicholls Round (12:06); Charlie Stewart (13:59); Bob talks about his most admired Indigenous players, with a special mention of Zephy Skinner (14:45); Nicky Winmar (16:31); Brett Goodes (17:40); and Bob's decision to wear Adam Goodes' number 37 for the coin toss in August, 2015 (18:30). (38:51); send in your memories of the game (41:10); the only sports memorabilia Bob will allow in his house (42:17); the day Adi saved a Martin Pike beer can from 1999 Grand Final (43:36); the benefits of 'doing time' (44:37); the boys then continue their search for Ballarat's best pie (46:08).
