RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot break down Super Bowl 59, admitting their lack of enthusiasm for both the Eagles and Chiefs fan bases but finding unexpected entertainment in the blowout. They discuss Tom Brady's underwhelming debut as a Fox analyst, noting his lack of personality and insight compared to past greats like John Madden. Reflecting on the halftime show, Mitch wonders if he's officially aged out of enjoying Super Bowl performances, realizing how modern entertainment trends no longer resonate with him. Dr. John Osborne joins the show for his annual heart health discussion, emphasizing the importance of a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score—a quick, affordable test that can detect heart disease decades before symptoms appear. He debunks common cholesterol myths, explaining that genetics play a bigger role than diet and that HDL (the "good cholesterol") isn't as protective as once thought. With heart disease remaining the leading cause of death, he urges listeners to take proactive steps through prevention, lifestyle changes, and early screenings. The Mariners No-Table tackles Seattle's frustrating offseason, dissecting Jerry Dipoto's comments suggesting the team didn't have many holes to fill despite an anemic offense. While Dipoto takes criticism, analysts Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas argue that ownership's unwillingness to spend is the real obstacle, leaving glaring gaps in the lineup. They also discuss potential prospect call-ups, bullpen depth, and whether the current roster is strong enough to compete in 2024. Christian Capel from On Montlake breaks down Washington football's eventful offseason, including major coaching staff turnover and roster changes through the transfer portal. He evaluates the Huskies' top-25 recruiting class, the challenges of retaining talent in the NIL era, and expectations under new head coach Jedd Fisch. With a Big Ten schedule ahead, the program looks to rebuild and position itself for long-term success.   GUESTS   • Dr. John Osborne | Cardiologist • Mariners No-Table | Joe Doyle (Over Slot) & Brady Farkas (Sports Illustrated Now M's Editor) • Christian Caple | The Athletic, On Montlake   TABLE OF CONTENTS   1:34 | Super Bowl 59, Eagles Fans, and a Presidential Golf Outing 12:16 | Clip of the Week: Mark Cuban on "unique situations" 20:33 | Super Bowl 59 Reactions: Eagles Blowout, Brady's Commentary, and a Halftime Epiphany 37:26 | GUEST: Dr. John Osborne | Cardiologist - Preventing Heart Disease: The Test Every Adult Over 40 Should Get 45:42 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table | Joe Doyle (Over Slot) & Brady Farkas (Sports Illustrated Now M's Editor) - Mariners Fans Frustrated as Ownership Avoids Spending to Improve Offense 1:00:16 | GUEST: Christian Caple (On Montlake) - Washington Football Navigates Major Changes in Coaching, Roster, and NIL Era 1:50:43 | The Other Stuff Segment: • Super Bowl Halftime Shows controversy • Mariners' Offseason Comments • Randy Moss cancer diagnosis and return • Nate Robinson kidney transplant • Vegas brothel Super Bowl offer • Cooper Kupp trade rumors • Marcus Jordan DUI and cocaine arrest • MLB umpire betting scandal • UMass student tuition contest controversy • Warren Moon's son commits to Washington, • RIPs: Howard Twilley • Headlines: Artificial shark reproduction, Waffle House egg surcharge, Stolen olive oil and egg heists, Man warming up chicken in sauna incident.

Episode 087: Look Back in Anger by John Osborne Host: Douglas Schatz Guests: Dan Rebellato and Atri Banerjee Welcome to The Play Podcast where we explore the greatest new and classic plays. Each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We'll discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. John Osborne's Look Back in Anger is one of the landmark plays of twentieth century British theatre. It's raging protagonist, Jimmy Porter, represented a generation of disaffected youth, and its proletarian setting heralded a new style of ‘kitchen sink drama'. But how well has Jimmy's abusive anger aged? I'm delighted to welcome two experts to help us address this question, and many more: Dan Rebellato, the author of 1956 and All That: The Making of Modern British Drama, and, Atri Banerjee, the director of the first revival of the play in London for 25 years, currently running at the Almeida Theatre.

“I think it's safe to say John Osborne is a fuckin' beast!” That's how Chris Shiflett kicks off this episode of Shred With Shifty, featuring bearded Brothers Osborne shredder-in-chief John Osborne. Osborne joins Shifty to dissect his blistering country-rock ripping on the band's breakout single, “Stay A Little Longer.” Osborne tells Shifty about failing miserably at guitar in college, where he learned to read and play bass clef but never got the hang of the treble clef. It's no surprise when Osborne admits he's taken notes from players like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dickey Betts, Eric Johnson, and Skynyrd shredders Allan Collins and Gary Rossington, but his very first guitar influence? Kurt Cobain, and the Nirvana frontman's anxious energy. “I'm a little bit awkward, and I have social anxiety, but I can talk to people through music,” says Osborne. As far as technicality, though, he and Shifty agree that bluegrass guitar playing is “the Usain Bolt of musicianship.” To recap the “Stay A Little Longer” leads, Osborne plays a stock blackguard 1953 Fender Telecaster that he scooped from Carter Vintage Guitars. (Listen in to learn why it and some other Fenders from that era have an abnormally thick “Friday neck.”) He explains that he wanted the solo to have the same philosophy as legendary solos like those in “Free Bird” and “Hotel California”: hooky, repetitive, accented, and not too shreddy. Plus, he reveals the “un-Photoshopped” blips in the solo that stayed on the record. Click below to subscribe to the podcast! Elliot's posts teasing “I Bought A Honda” across IG have already garnered 1 millions since January 5th of this year.“I Bought A Honda”, Elliot comments:“ ,”Like many of my songs, “I Bought A Honda” is a fictional story derived from glimpses of personal experience. Fleeting feelings that led my spiraling mind into some other walk of life; in this case, a man romanticizing his past so much that he buys an entire car just to feel connected to it. It's silly when you say the name or try to summarize the concept, but the actual lyrics and melody will try their best to break your heart. You do have to listen carefully, but it's worth it for the punchline I think.”Watch the music video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V2t7F9hLdMAbout Elliot Greer:Whether scrawled in a handwritten diary, committed to the pages of a book, or posted online, an authentic story will resonate. From a stark and stripped-down perspective, Elliot Greer delivers unfiltered truth with grizzled, yet warm intonation accompanied by acoustic guitar. For as much as he harks back to an old school troubadour tradition, his appeal transcends eras. As such, he asserts himself as the rare singer-songwriter who can cut through the noise on social media with tens of millions of views or pack a residency gig on a weekly basis. Growing up in Scotland, he attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York city and later landed a part in Glen Hansard's Once in upstate New York —only for COVID to shut down the production before it got off the ground. Armed with a basic $100 microphone purchased by his girlfriend, he wrote, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered his independent debut, Handcrafted, in the bathroom of his apartment. Simultaneously, he gigged nonstop, busking 357 days in Central Park, performing anywhere around town with a stage, and joining Ashley McBryde and John Osborne for a performance on The Tonight Show at Jimmy Fallon. In 2022, he launched a TikTok account and broke through with the single “Bleed.” A video of Elliot with an acoustic guitar singing his soul out caught fire, reeling in 8 million views on Instagram and 5 million on TikTok. Her father, Archie (Laurence Olivier), is a star on the music hall circuit, but, in the television age, that old-fashioned entertainment is dying out. Is truth stranger than fiction? In this episode we decided YES, it is! We explored some of the very interesting myths and legends from Wyoming's great history. We talked about Big Nose George, Devils Tower, cow-tipping and the "little people." Our very interesting narrative is from John Mionczynski, well known biologist, and naturalist. John tells his story of his encounter with Sasquatch, or “Bigfoot” while camping alone in the Wind River Mountains. John Mionczynski started on his journey to learn more about the creature known as Sasquatch, or “Bigfoot” and shares what he has learned over the years with other researchers. Over the decades since, he has searched for further evidence of a large primate inhabiting the forests of western North America, particularly in the Wyoming Wind River Range. John Mionczynski is well-known in Lander and Atlantic City, and his research is interesting and thought- provoking. He is a researcher of big horn sheep and grizzly bears, and medicinal plants expert. Listen to his story and decide for yourself! Big Nose George The phrase “walk a mile in my shoes” takes on chilling connotations when the shoes are made of human skin. And although the creation of such a pair sounds so gruesome as to be unbelievable, the shoes exist and are displayed at the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins, Wyo., where additional items reveal more of the story of the mysterious outlaw Big Nose George Parrott. Rawlins physician John Osborne had the shoes made from Parrott's skin after his March 22, 1881, lynching and wore them to his 1893 inaugural as Wyoming's governor. Osborne later served as a director in the Rawlins National Bank and displayed the shoes in a glass case in the front lobby there. Devils Tower There are numerous stories about the Tower passed down through American Indian culture. Although popular culture would label them myths or legends, a more appropriate term would be oral histories, or in many cases sacred narratives. These stories helped to connect people with the Tower site. Sacred narratives are told today with a reverence to the beliefs and people of the past. Devils Tower, Americas first national monument is an unusual natural landmark, a climbers paradise and a sacred site for Native Americans. The name is misleading, however, because legend has it that the mountain is not the home of the devil, but a refuge from a bear. "Legend of Bigfoot"  The legends of Bigfoot go back beyond recorded history and cover the world. In North America – and particularly the Northwest – you can hear tales of seven-foot-tall hairy men stalking the woods, occasionally scaring campers, lumberjacks, hikers and the like. Bigfoot is known by many titles with many different cultures although the name Bigfoot is generally attributed to the mountainous Western region of North America. The common name Sasquatch comes from the Salish Sasquits, while the Algonquin of the north-central region of the continent refer to a Witiko or Wendigo. Other nations tell of a large creature much like a man but imbued with special powers and characteristics. The Ojibway of the Northern Plains believed the Rugaru appeared in times of danger and other nations agreed that the hairy apparition was a messenger of warning, telling man to change his ways.  Bigfoot: Is the Sasquatch real? Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, is a giant ape-like creature that some people believe roams North America. It is a cryptid (opens in new tab) (or species rumored to exist)and just like the Chupacabra or Loch Ness monster(opens in new tab), there's scant physical evidence to suggest Bigfoot is actually out there. But that doesn't stop alleged sightings of the ape that never shows its face or Bigfoot buffs from trying to prove there's life in the legend. Most Bigfoot sightings occur in the Northwest, where the creature can be linked to Indigenous myths and legends. The word Sasquatch is derived from Sasq'ets, a word from the Halq'emeylem language used by some Salish First Nations peoples in southwestern British Columbia, according to the Oregon Encyclopedia(opens in new tab). It means "wild man" or "hairy man." Here are more Wyoming Myths and Legends Resources for you to explore! Wyoming Urban Legends Haunted Places of Wyoming

No dip into film history would be complete without a swim through New Wave. A movement born in France in the 1950s within the pages of the magazine Cahiers du Cinema – New Wave began when a group of adventurous film critics tried their hands at tearing down old concepts of film grammar and subjects and replacing them with kinetic, symbolic, and abstract examinations of social alienation, psychopathology, and sex! The French New Wave quickly (and, at times, not so quickly in some countries) caught on in countries across the globe, and filmmakers in dozens of countries took on the same revolutionary charge that began in France. This episode, Corey chose The Entertainer (1960), adapted by John Osborne from his play and starring Laurence Olivier who originated the title character. The British New Wave is quite different from pretty much every other country's, and Paul and Corey discuss why this may be the case and why The Entertainer perfectly encapsulates this theory. There's so much to discuss: music hall, peeing next to Laurence Olivier, and the Suez Crisis/Second Arab-Israeli War/Tripartite Aggression/Sinai War!
