If you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall listening to two great minds discuss dogs and Pit Bulls in particular, then you are in luck. My guest, Diane Jessup, is an author and a legend and author in the world of pit bulls and titling dogs. Her dog Dread had the most titles of any dog of any breed. She competed in many dog sports when not doing her day job as an animal control officer. Diane's shares opinions about pit bulls, sound temperament, safe dog rescue practices, and how her dog Dread acted in a scene with a child movie star. Here is some background info about Diane Jessup taken from her book The Working Pit Bull and her website that lists her Cairn terriers and Dobermans she meticulously breeds, DanBar Ranch.com. Diane worked for 20 years in animal control ,which itself is an amazing accomplishment. But she also was the director of the Canine Aggression Outreach center where she did consulting services for animal control and public services on canine human interaction. Diane and her pit bulldogs traveled to give seminars on dog behavior and law enforcement. Diane competed extensively with her pit bulls and her banddog Dread had the record for holding the most titles in the most sports of any dog of any breed. Diane competed in shutzhund, weight pull, tracking obedience, conformation, and guard work, and herding with Dread and her other dogs. This is all while using positive marking methods for training her dogs. She has written three books, The Working Pit Bull, Colbys Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier, and The Dog Who Spoke with Gods. Her dogs have been in five films and many other media and she has been featured in many TV shows including Oprah and CNN. She is currently retired from official work, but breeds and cares for Dobermans and Cairn Terriers. We are so honored she is joining us today to share her love and knowledge of pit bulsl and other things dog.

Rick is shouting out two great organizations. First is the Setauket Animal Hospital, a full-service hospital offering a full range of comprehensive veterinary services to keep pets in excellent health, from wellness exams and vaccinations to dental care, internal medicine, and surgery. For more info visit setauketanimalhospital.com. Summary: Welcome to Episode 8 of our special Throne of Glass series, friends! Aelin is being tortured and held inside an iron coffin by Maeve and her lackey, Cairn. Lysandra plays her at the front, Rowan will stop at nothing to find her, and things are looking very grim for our heroes. Today we explore Kingdom of Ash Part 1, the seventh (or eighth depending on your reading order) book in ToG. As Maeve and Erawan begin to make their final moves, the grand tapestry of friends, allies and lovers across continents must come together and find a way to overcome horrible odds and an existential evil. We have both been reading the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas, a mutual favorite author who we celebrated in a previous LoveFest episode. We will be releasing monthly special episodes in which we debrief on each book as we go throughout the series.  We encourage you to read along with us throughout the year–or at whatever point you're jumping into these episodes–and enjoy our reactions, speculations, and gushing as we explore this new fantastical world. As a reminder, each episode will have spoilers for the book being discussed and any of the books we've read previously, but we won't give spoilers beyond that point. Episodes will continue to drop each month until we finish the series. The author and poet Kathleen Jamie celebrates a new form of writing – weaving personal notes, prose poems and acts of witness – in her latest book, Cairn. The new collection is a meditation on the preciousness and precariousness of both memory and the natural world. The broadcaster Jennifer Lucy Allan has taken a closer look at the relationship between humans and the earth in her book Clay. From the first clay tablets to the throwing of pots on a wheel, the history of this everyday material is bound up with our own and the act of creation. The artist Mark Hearld has a passion for making, from collage to printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. Like Kathleen Jamie he takes inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside. In July he will be working in collaboration with the weavers at Dovecot in Edinburgh to turn his paper collages into a tapestry. Visitors to Dovecot will be able to see Mark and the weavers in action (Mark Hearld: At Home in Scotland, until July 18th). The Dovecot Tapestry studio was first established in Scotland in 1912 and today's master weaver Naomi Robertson looks back at its history.
