Tommy and Kelechi are back to review two cracking weeks of football here in WA. In the Women's we talk about Fremantle lifting their first-ever Women's State Cup with a commanding 3-0 win over Balcatta - and give flowers to a few familiar faces. In the Top Four Cup, Perth RedStar survived a thriller – Gabby Dal Busco the shootout hero as they beat Perth SC after a 1-1 draw, while Balcatta edged the Academy 4-3 in extra time thanks to a Rachel Jarvis double. In the Men's! Stirling produce a stunning late comeback with Danny Douglas the hero coming off the bench. We wrap up the fixture and highlight some positive stories and also talk about how hard it is to win stuff! We also talk about wins for Glory and Bayswater as the Glory keep their Top Four Cup run alive after a win in the penalty shoot against Perth Redstar while Baysie are in the final!  ------------------------------ A big thank you to all the listeners for your continued support and also to our major sponsor - The Enhance Health Group – who are your trusted provider of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services in the South West region of Western Australia. Send us a textWhat happens when you walk away from a secure corporate job to pursue your passion for running a small business, refereeing and mentorship? Join me, David Gerson, as I recount the exhilarating journey from the office to the field, where the thrill of officiating high-stakes matches like the Georgia State Cup semi-finals and finals became my new reality. Through this transition, I discovered the power of female representation in high-level soccer games and found fulfillment in mentoring young referees, ultimately choosing family and well-being over climbing the corporate ladder.Explore the critical yet behind-the-scenes role of a fourth official, where managing substitutions and being ready to step in as the main referee underscore the adaptability essential in this position. My firsthand experiences from the State Cup, including the unexpected honor of receiving a commemorative ring, highlight the recognition referees seldom receive, yet deeply appreciate. Modern tools like the Refr sports platform and the Ref6 Pro app have become invaluable resources that optimize our efficiency and effectiveness on the field.Personal stories bring warmth and depth to this episode, especially as I share my son Jacob's journey back to refereeing after overcoming challenges. Listener interactions, like Dan's touching letter about discovering his passion for the sport through his son's games, weave a rich tapestry of community and inspiration. Together, we celebrate shared experiences, learn from the unpredictable nature of the game. Thank you for being part of this supportive community, and here's wishing you a holiday season filled with fair play and no red cards. The Dark Horse Entrepreneur | Helping Parents Make Money OnlineFor hardworking parents seeking side hustles & yearning for the freedom & fulfillment...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

The Inside Scoop with Anytime Soccer Training - Discussing Youth Soccer from Around the World

Welcome to a special edition of Inside Scoop! In this episode, Neil Crawford, host and founder of Anytime Soccer Training, interviews Katie, the host of the soccer podcast "Kick It with Katie." Katie is a soccer mom, wife, and coach, managing a busy life within the soccer world. She shares her inspiring journey to becoming a coach, starting with volunteering for her daughter's team and eventually getting licensed after a pivotal moment during a game. Now, Katie coaches multiple age groups and even her own daughters' teams, navigating the unique challenges of coaching her kids while maintaining a professional coaching approach. During the podcast, Katie discusses some of the challenges faced during tryouts in her area. The timing of tryouts often clashes with important events like State Cup and out-of-state tournaments, causing players to miss tryout opportunities. This scheduling conflict can create difficulties for both players and coaches. While players committed to their current clubs can secure a spot through registration, those seeking new clubs face challenges due to overlapping schedules. Despite these challenges, Katie and Neil explore potential solutions and encourage open discussions in their soccer community to address these issues and make the tryout process more accessible and equitable for everyone involved. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kick-it-with-katie-a-soccer-podcast/id1648920617 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/anytime-soccer/support

As a parent, coach, and former player, winning never gets old. On the other hand, losing can suck. In today's society, it feels like we only have time for winners, however, as a coach I often learned the most from a loss. A few years ago I wrote a book called "Re-booting Youth Soccer 2.0: Everything You Really Need to Know But Were Afraid to Ask About Youth Soccer" (available on Amazon). Today on "The Bear and the Ball," I'll read from my chapter on "Winning and Losing" as it's highly relevant as we move into the sudden death of this year's State Cup and the highs and lows that come with knockout soccer.

E95: Youth Soccer Discussion: Iowa Soccer League vs. Club Development League featuring Craig Winger, Director of Competition for the Iowa Soccer Association

Soccer Talk presented by Kick It Forward

Perhaps the final piece to the puzzle in understanding this specific Youth Soccer Discussion is the competition/league structure itself. Craig Winger is the Iowa Soccer Association's Director of Competition and he's here to educate us. Craig is a native Iowan and growing up in the '80s playing at a community club in Dubuque, he's seen the evolution of Iowa soccer that hearkens back to the early days of State Cup in Muscatine. Receiving the ISL/IPSL torch from Iowa Soccer Legend, Ted Bzdega, Craig has overseen an unparalleled transition in Iowa soccer's history.   This past summer of 2020, in the relatively new pandemic era, a contingent of youth soccer clubs in Iowa proposed a new league with the Iowa Soccer Association called the Club Development League (CDL). Here are the stories: Episode 85 of the podcast tried to provide a neutral overview of the differences between the CDL and the previously all-encompassing Iowa Soccer League (ISL). Episode 89 went in depth into the history of how this situation came about, and provided a good perspective from the leader of an ISL club. Episode 90 reviewed the standards of the different leagues and provided some solutions to potentially keep the ISL and CDL together under the ISA umbrella. Episode 91 was a wide-ranging conversation that provided a perspective that few have on the ISL, CDL and player development in the state of Iowa. We welcome the godfather himself, Iowa Soccer Association's Executive Director, Dan Cataldi to hear about the process to this point and hopefully, a way forward.

Things that Soccer Talk loves: firsts, a Game of the Week, road trips, catching up with old friends and watching good soccer. If you love these things too, then you'll love that we headed to Omaha last weekend to take in the Nebraska State Cup Final for the U15 Boys. The match featured a Sporting Omaha team coached by former Drake men's assistant, Bill Koeppen, and a Gretna squad under the guidance of Alex Vasquez. Both coaches are well-known for their demanding and competitive styles, but more so, for preparing their players to play at the next level. Speaking of the next level, Nebraska State Soccer has worked a deal with Creighton University to play State Cup matches at Morrison Stadium in downtown Omaha, which is one of the best soccer-specific venues in the Midwest, if not nationwide. Further, they stream the games on their YouTube channel and invited us over to provide coverage of the game. So in addition to having the Titan Tactician in the studio to help break down the action, please enjoy today's multi-media-style approach by following along on social media for interviews with the coaches and checking out some live footage on KIF's YouTube Channel.

It's Game of the Week time again! Without a full college season this fall, Soccer Talk has taken a trip to watch the high school-aged club State Cup at Cownie Soccer Complex. And if that doesn't get you excited, it's a double GOTW! An historic match-up was our first game, as we took in the U16 Boys Play-In Game, which saw the United Futbol Academy (UFA) face off against the Genesis Youth Foundation. Both squads are new to the Iowa Soccer Association and the teams were playing in some of their clubs' first ever State Cup matches. The atmosphere was great and while the scoreline was a little lopsided, it was certainly exciting to see how much it meant to the players and their families. Then, after a pandemic-related rescheduling, UFA had the tall task of squaring off with top-ranked Sporting Iowa Central. Eventually, Sporting Iowa's quality showed through and their experience at the club level and in state cup led them to victory, but not after a hard fought battle with the up-and-coming UFA squad.

Joel and Eddie are back with Wests Tigers' Podcast Number 9, with the season edging closer, and a number of NRL trial matches and State Cup trial matches over the weekend.  In a special one-part podcast, the boys discuss the State Cup Trial game between the Magpies and the Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground. Joel was there and tells us how the likes of Jacob Liddle, Chris McQueen, Josh Aloiai, Robbie Rochow and Mahe Fonua performed. Which players pushed their claims, whilst which players failed to fire?  Plus some insight into some of the younger players, and a very interesting thing Joel noticed that was different about the side's warm-up before the game.   We also talk about the signing of Robert Jennings and how the Wests Tigers' back line could be reshuffled as a result.  Will Jennings be seen as a centre or a winger, and who could drop out of the side? Plus, trying to get inside the head of Coach Michael Maguire a few days out from naming his NRL side to trial against the Warriors this weekend.   Enjoy and thanks for listening! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
