Tom: In this segment of our program, we're beginning our discussions of Dave Hunt's new book Judgment Day! Islam, Israel, and the Nations, which has just rolled off the press. Dave, the title is certainly thought-provoking. Most folks wouldn't get the impression that it's a happy, feel-good-about-the-world-situation sort of book, so can you give us a synopsis of the book and tell us why you wrote it?Dave: Well, Tom, we have a lot of happy, feel-good books. That is mostly what is being written out there. We try to hide our heads in the sand; we don't want to face the problems that are in the world today. And probably the greatest challenge - the greatest danger to the entire world - is Islam. And the Bible is filled with very clear and frightening (really frightening) declarations by God of the judgment He is going to bring upon this world. Why is He going to do that? Well, that's what we talk about, and we give you the documentation from prophecy in the Bible, from history, and from the daily news, what is happening in our world. This world is ripening for God's judgment.

Question: Does every Christian have the power to cast out demons and heal sickness?

The Berean Call Podcast

Question: In the recent lead article by Dave Hunt [February 2025], he says, "So by the gift of healing, the disciples could loose the sick from their bondage to illness; and by casting out demons they loosed souls from that form of bondage. Every Christian has the power, in the name of Jesus (as He would and to His glory), to do the same today." So, TBC thinks every Christian today has the power of Jesus and the disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons? If so, why isn't this happening all the time? I think you are wrong on this one.Response: The issue regarding what Dave Hunt said is not the question. Rather, did he quote the Scriptures correctly and in context? You ask: "So TBC thinks every Christian today has the power of Jesus and the disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons? If so, why isn't this happening all the time?"As Dave wrote: "The promise of having from the Father what two or three agree upon echoes Christ's similar promises concerning prayer, such as, 'Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you' (Matt 7:7). All of these promises—binding and loosing, agreeing upon a request, or simply believing—seem very much alike. But what is meant? Christ surely does not mean that no matter what we bind, loose, agree upon, or ask, God will grant it like an overly indulgent grandparent. It is axiomatic that God has not turned His universe or mankind over to us to do with as we will.

Mary welcomes Rob Yardley to the podcast, Rob is a true servant in the church with the heart of a pastor and theologian. Rob has served on several boards of note and continues to do so - from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to ICR to Thru the Bible with J Vernon McGee. His new role as Executive Director of The Berean Call is one that is dear to his heart because of his friendship with the late Dave Hunt, and of course T.A. McMahon, who has recently retired. When putting godly men like Dave Hunt, TA, Henry Morris, and J Vernon side by side we get a picture of 20th century men that God greatly used. We will look at the legacies of each one, and talk about what it means to be a Berean in 2025. Where are today's great apologists and theologians? A thoughtful hour with a thoughtful brother.   Stand Up For The Truth Videos: https://rumble.com/user/CTRNOnline & https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgQQSvKiMcglId7oGc5c46A

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.—Titus 1:9This is part three in our series of articles on being a Berean. Tom McMahon wrote “Being a Berean,” an article that laid out who we are as a ministry. Tom and Dave started The Berean Call to help get God's message out through newsletters written by Dave Hunt (and later by Tom, too). In part two, Dave wrote a newsletter entitled, “More on Being a Berean” that continued the theme of what our ministry stands for with examples of error being taught in our Lord's name. This newsletter will continue on those themes and our desire to do God's will out of love for Him.We start with the very first commandment, which Jesus said is “…thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:30). “We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19), which the Lord demonstrated because “…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8), “…was buried, and…rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:4).God saved us from an eternal punishment that we fully deserve, but He didn't stop there. He has given us His Word, which He magnifies above His name (Psalm 138:2). In addition, Jesus promised that He would send from the Father (John 15:26) the Spirit of truth, who will guide us into all truth (John 16:13). With God's Word and His indwelling Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16), He “…hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3).1 Bob Jones III, BJU Tape God's Barriers Between Men, January 15, 1982.2 Bob Jones III, BJU Tape God's Barriers Between Men, January 15, 1982.3 At the turn of the century, BJU removed their ban on interracial relationships.4 Dave Hunt, “Am I A Fundamentalist?”, TBC Newsletter August 1998.5 Galatians 3:16, English Standard Version.6 The latest revision of the NIV has moved up the text and has the bracket section stating [The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.].7 John MacArthur, ed, The MacArthur Study Bible, 2nd Edition, English Standard Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishing, 2021), 1366.

Question: What do you mean by "journaling"?

The Berean Call Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 2, 2025 2:41

Question: I see the term “journaling” in several of your articles. Just what is meant by that?Response: Some would refer to the daily exercise of keeping a diary as “journaling.” That's not what we're speaking of. Rather, too commonly today, “journaling” refers to the mystic practice of emptying one's mind and calling upon a “spirit guide,” who is the one “channeling” their thoughts through our mind and guiding the hand recording these same ideas.More than three decades ago, Dave Hunt wrote about The Way International former cult member Mark Virkler, who found his way into charismatic circles. He has since become a popular speaker.“Virkler teaches seminars designed to ‘open one up to two-way communication with Almighty God,' which…‘is going to change the nation….' (Sadly enough, not just Virkler's seminar but the growing use of visualization may indeed ‘change the nation.') The secret is in two divination techniques (divination is forbidden by the Bible in any form): ‘journaling' and ‘visualization.' What Virkler calls ‘the breakthrough' into two-way dialogue with God came through information gained at a seminar conducted by Dennis and Matthew Linn, Jesuit priests who teach the visualization of Mary and Joseph for inner healing. Virkler teaches visualization of a ‘Jesus' who can be conjured up at will in the imagination but then begins to move and speak on his own. Clearly contact has been made with some spirit entity independent of the visualizer's imagination, but it is not our Lord Jesus Christ, for He cannot be called from the right hand of the Father on high to appear before us as our private guru any time we please.”

Question: Why do so many focus on President Trump and America in regards to Israel? I am expecting all nations to turn against Israel, but others seem to think America is the answer to Israel's problems. I have quite a few of your books (Dave Hunt and T. A. McMahon) and have been getting your newsletter for many years. I'm not swayed by these kinds of ideas, but I am bewildered at what is being promoted. Building the Third Temple? I know some are working on breeding red heifers, too.Response:Some may consider America and President Trump to be the answer to Israel's problems, but Scripture has another view. In Joel 3:2, the prophet writes, “I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land [emphasis added].”...

[Original airdate 1/11/24] Mary Danielsen talks to Tom McMahon of The Berean Call about the coming strong delusion and how the church has gotten so far from reason and apologetics as to become a church based on feelings and doing what seems right. Beyond the itching ear syndrome and seeker-friendly paradigms, we will look at how crafting worship and messages around illiciting an emotional reaction is now the norm. From Bethel to political correctness and social justice, the emotion based church has taken us far afield from being able to reason about what we believe - the what AND the why. Food for thought and sound reasoning as usual from The Berean Call. Since the late 1980s, the late Dave Hunt and TA have faithfully contended for the faith once delivered to the saints.
