OA1168 - Did the Karen Read trial just become the most expensive drunk driving prosecution in US history? We then briefly discuss legal issues around the arrest by ICE of New York mayoral candidate Brad Landry, and Matt fills in the most important missing detail of a story which nearly the entire media got wrong this week. And in our main story: the Supreme Court has struck an expected but thoroughly disappointing blow against trans rights in one of the season's biggest cases, and we talk out our first impressions of the informed medical judgments of Drs. Roberts, Thomas, and Alito. Finally, in today's footnote: why America's favorite crack-smoking pillow salesman now owes millions for repeating a second-hand rumor about an Antifa conference call. Things looked bad enough for the media and Democrats on Friday afternoon -- and then two major developments dropped. Andrew Malcolm and I discuss the impact of the Hur tapes leak on the sense of betrayal felt by American voters. Then the Bidens made a stunning announcement about Biden's health -- which showed that there was no end of deception in the Biden White House and among Democrat officials.

Today's word of the day is ‘energy' as in Pacers as Tyrese Haliburton as in the Cavaliers as in the road team as in comeback. The Pacers with another historic comeback. How are they doing it? The Pacers went on an 8-0 run in the final minute to win it on a Haliburton 3! (10:22) The Warriors held off the Timberwolves yesterday. But Steph Curry is hurt, and that is bad for the Warriors. Very bad. (14:22) The Pittsburgh Pirates are having a season to forget and it's only May. Statement after statement after statement. Mess after mess after mess. (26:12) So You Wanna Talk to Samson!? Someone asked me about the Reds rookie who broke his forearm making a play. (33:45) Review: The Friend. (37:37) Funding for traumatic brain injury could be slashed by Washington. Is this as big of a deal as it appears? (43:00) NPPOD. (46:45) Caitlin Clark is a market mover. It's official. Going into year 2 of her WNBA career and the ratings are already insane. A Cultural Manifesto on Friendship, Success, and the Art of the Backhanded ComplimentWhy does your mate's success make you wince… just a little? In this lyrical, story-driven, and culturally sharp episode, we explore the paradox of friendship and success through the uniquely Scottish lens of sarcasm, self-deprecation, and social suspicion. From backhanded compliments and social media minefields to the taboo of self-improvement, this manifesto unpacks why watching a friend “make it” can stir up pride, envy — and more than a few passive-aggressive jokes. Why is Scottish culture allergic to self-congratulation?How do we keep our friends grounded — often with a pint and a smirk? What happens when Gus from the pub becomes Gus from Canary Wharf? This is not just about envy — it's about identity. It's about success, community, and the strange intimacy of honest friendships wrapped in irony. This is friendship, the Scottish way.Support the showAttitude. The Constitution draws a line between the powers of each branch of the federal government. Just like “legislating from the bench,” when Congress hands its lawmaking power to the executive, it's not just bad policy - it's unconstitutional. It breaks the separation of powers and leads down the road to total tyranny. In this episode, we dig into the forgotten cornerstone of the Constitution: the non-delegation doctrine. The post TYRANNY: Legislating from the Bench is Bad – But THIS is Even Worse first appeared on Tenth Amendment Center.

Joe Biden made more policy progress on climate change than any president in history, so it might not have been crazy to think what he accomplished would be difficult to unwind - or that Donald Trump might not put too much effort into it. But if that's what you thought, you were wrong. Paul is joined by Jillian Goodman, deputy editor of Heatmap.news, to examine the damage Trump is doing and consider what makes policy change durable and what makes it vulnerable. The news isn't good.

Three new national polls—from CNN, Gallup, and The Washington Post—show that President Donald Trump's job approval is decidedly underwater. Importantly, the polls also show majorities rejecting Trump's authoritarian governance. And Elon Musk, who's carrying out Trump's most autocratic designs, fares even worse. Are we finally seeing a real public backlash to Trump's authoritarianism, the one that was supposed to materialize during the election, but didn't? If so, what does that mean for how Democrats should proceed? We talked to political scientist Julia Azari, who writes on these matters for her “Good Politics, Bad Politics” Substack, about why Democrats have an opening to run harder against Trump-Musk autocratic overreach—and what that might look like. On Friday night, President Donald Trump fired 15 independent inspectors general in a late night massacre that appears to have been illegal. Yet since then, that story has only gotten worse. First, Trump defended the purge by calling it “very standard,” attempting to normalize his lawlessness. Second, some Republicans quickly signaled that they will be just fine with this, confirming again that he'll he's be largely unbound in his second term. We chatted with Jennifer Rubin, co-founder of The Contrarian, who explains why this is illegal and poses a profound threat to good governance, how Trump's absurd defense of it compounds the problem, and how Democrats and others can fight back.
